Hôpital vétérinaire pour oiseaux et animaux exotiques de Montréal inc.: Avis
Expérience fantastique: Professional, caring, and excellent with birds I had a great experience at Hôpital vétérinaire pour oiseaux et animaux exotiques de Montréal inc. (6090 Sherbrooke St W, Montréal). They helped me professionally with a problem my bird had, and honestly everything was handled really well. The staff were kind and respectful, the veterinarian was knowledgeable, and they took the time to explain things clearly so I felt reassured. You can tell they truly understand birds and exotic animals and take their work seriously. I’m very grateful for the care they provided, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who wants trustworthy, professional help for their bird.
Expérience fantastique: Great staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. They saved my bunny ! All staff are fully bilingual
Expérience fantastique: I unfortunately had to put down my very old and sick mouse, and the staff was so kind and gentle. Even though she was just a little mouse, they were very considerate. They gave the same weight to the process as you would expect them to do for a dog or cat. I really appreciated it.
Expérience fantastique: I have been there on 2 seperate occassions and each visit was fantastic. I am an owner of a 10 year old Quaker parrot.
Expérience fantastique: Professionalism with heart. Merci!
Expérience fantastique: Great staff, very thorough and took time to explain our options and made us feel equally comfortable picking either.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent service here! I recommend
Expérience fantastique: Superb veterinarians, helpful with advice and caring.
Expérience fantastique: Very kind staff, and I find it easy to get appointments that fit my schedule. They also give clear advice that helps me feel confident in how to care of my rabbits.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff and a veterinarian who know how to handle a rabbit properly. And for once, I was explained in DETAILS what was going on with my rabbit and why and what to do about it. They didn't just give me meds without explaining what and why first. Plus, during the exam, my rabbit relaxed a lot quicker than at the other places he's been at, I take this as a two thumbs up from the patient himself
Expérience positive: Friendly and knowledgeable staff, our bird was taken care of fast. Parking is a bit difficult and prices are too high.
Expérience négative: Very disappointed with time ménagement
Expérience fantastique: Nice clinc, very clean ,vet seemed to be very nice, and she took her time with me. Answered all my questions..and the price was much more reasonable, then other places we've been to..they did mixed up our bill, My hubby didn't even catch it.. they noticed as we were driving away they called us asking us to come back so they could fix it. That is Class!!! Nibbles -Mom ( Linstead)
Expérience fantastique: No complaints. The examination was fast and the staff was professional. They took time to respond to all my questions.
Expérience positive: The staff and the doctors are very polite and they try to help with appointments and any emergencies that may arise. My guinea pigs were well taken care of. During a very unfortunate emergency they referred me to the emergency vet clinic in Laval and transferred our file there. Upon arrival it made it easier and less stressful to deal with. Unfortunately there was not very much that could be done. I would like to sincerely thank all the staff that have seen my Theo and given him all the quality of life that was possible.
Expérience fantastique: Always friendly and available for our fur and feather companions
Expérience fantastique: I recently brought my pet bird in to be seen by a vet. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the overall service was excellent.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff, took great care of my conure. Instead of just saying "give her more veggies" and leaving the rest to me, they actually gave recommendations on how to get started on that.
Expérience négative: **Honest Review: Disappointing Experience** Rip my bro I want to share my recent experience with a cockatiel we received as a gift. Unfortunately, within just a few days, the bird developed a serious infection that required immediate veterinary attention. Time was of the essence, and I called the avian veterinary hospital to explain our situation. I made it clear that our cockatiel was in critical condition and needed urgent treatment to survive. Regrettably, the employee informed me that the clinic was fully booked and that the earliest appointment available was the next day. I understand that they were busy, but it was incredibly frustrating to hear that they couldn't accommodate our urgent situation. The life of our beloved bird was at stake, and waiting another day was simply not an option. The following evening, we checked on our cockatiel, only to find that he had passed away. The infection had worsened, and he lost too much blood. This heartbreaking outcome could have been avoided if the clinic had prioritized urgent cases like ours. I believe the veterinary hospital needs to reassess their scheduling practices for emergencies involving birds. Our cockatiel was not just a pet; he was a living being with feelings and emotions. Birds, including cockatiels, deserve the same level of care and urgency that any other pet receives. After informing the clinic of our loss, they offered a $50 refund and expressed their condolences. While I appreciate the gesture, it doesn’t change the fact that our bird suffered due to a lack of timely intervention. I know that many others may have faced similar situations, and it’s crucial for veterinary practices to recognize the urgency of medical issues in animals. Pets like our cockatiel are not disposable; they are family members deserving of compassion and prompt care. Free HIM
Please accept my sincere condolences for the sad loss of your feathered family member.
Having worked with avian and exotic pets for 25 years, I fully agree with you that birds deserve the same care as other animals. That is the reason for the existence of the Montreal Bird and Exotics Hospital and the few veterinary establishments treating birds. Every person working here loves birds and will go out of their way to help, if at all possible.
I also agree with you that it is indeed crucial for veterinary clinics to recognize the urgency of medical issues in animals and I know for a fact that veterinary clinics everywhere strive to offer the best possible options for dealing with all sorts of emergencies. After all, that is why we become veterinarians in the first place.
There are different types of veterinary establishments, offering different kinds of services. The only emergency center for birds in the Montreal-Laval area is CVL (Centre Vétérinaire Laval), where bird emergencies can be seen 24/7/365, without appointment. All other clinics seeing birds, including ours, work by appointment - just like most veterinary clinics.
We refer emergencies to CVL based on how busy we are and how urgent the case appears to be - based on the information given by the caller to our trained and experienced receptionists (who will ask members of the veterinary team if they are not sure if they are indeed hearing about a true emergency or not).
When you called us, with the help of another person translating for you, the receptionist took note that you saw blood and a mass in the area of the cloaca and she recommended that you take your sick bird straight to CVL, told you that this is an urgent situation, that we were indeed unable to see you and explained that our first available appointment was only the next day. The receptionist was told by the person translating for you that you wanted to take the next-day appointment rather than going to CVL, against our receptionist’s recommendation.
The next day, you called, with your husband translating, to let us know that your bird was deceased, so the receptionist expressed her condolences, had a compassionate conversation with your husband and refunded the deposit of $50 that you left the day before, for the appointment your friend had booked during the initial call.
We have reviewed scheduling practices for emergencies many times and we always have same-day emergency slots open. Even when those are full, we regularly accommodate urgent cases if the veterinarians think that it would be possible.
Unlike cat and dog clinics, we can only refer exotics to a single emergency center - whereas for cats and dogs there are many options for emergencies. We do accommodate emergencies, at the risk of offending clients who might have to wait at reception for their scheduled appointment - and with significant stress to our staff who deal with those emergencies whilst nevertheless being under pressure of having to be on time and delivering best possible care for all patients. But we are not an emergency hospital and we do not advertise ourselves as such. Also, our professional order (OMVQ) does not oblige us to accept emergencies when we are overloaded.
On Thursday, when you called, our agenda was fully booked with both regular appointments AND urgent cases filling all emergency slots. Also, we had already taken in 2 additional emergencies. On Friday, we had 3 pet owners walking in with emergencies on top of a full agenda. We referred 3-4 more emergencies to CVL on each of those days. Several clients were very unhappy with wait times, or with being directed to CVL. But we had reached our limits, not for the first time, nor for the last.
I am sorry that we could not do more for you when you called us for emergency care. I hope that these explanations of the situation provides at least a little bit of closure and I am again extending my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brieger
Expérience fantastique: All the staff here have been very kind with me and my rats.
Expérience fantastique: Dre Banon is absolutely amazing. Thank you for you and your team's hospitality, empathy and kindness.
Expérience positive: Always a good experience. They treat many exotic animals. We had one of our non-releasable squirrels in to clip his overgrown teeth. Recommended.
Expérience fantastique: Really nice staff, careful and professional. I went there for sterilizing my rabbit. They took good care of him ✨
Expérience fantastique: Excellent card gift your pets. They are pros!
Expérience négative: The worst vet I've ever brought my pet to :( Don't bring your pet here. They prescribed the wrong antibiotics and my pet died and I'm devastated. Please avoid this place at all costs. They don't know what they're doing. I can't believe how unknowledgeable they are. The worst experience of my life.
Thank you for taking the time to write and please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your pet. I would really like to see what may have happened since we have not heard from any client about their pet dying after having received antibiotics in recent times. Please contact me on [email protected] with the name of your pet and your details, in order to find your file in our system. My team and I are very sorry for your loss. Dr. Brieger
Expérience fantastique: Ive always been to this veterinary hospital for my bunny since he had bad sneezing problems, they did checks and said that he would need medecine for a month, after that the sneezing was gone. I brought him to them when he had not eaten and was low energy for 24 hours. They did some checks and I trusted them to keep him overnight, the next morning he was doing better and started eating again. Now he seems to be doing great again and he is running around freely, thanks to them. I could not recommend a better veterinary clinic than this one, and they saved my bunny's life. Also, they even called me a taxi when my phone died, which they absolutely did not need to do but they did it anyways.
Expérience fantastique: We took our conure for a much-needed nail trim and annual check-up today, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. It was our first visit to this clinic, and after 12 years of vet visits, this was by far the best service we've ever received (regular and exotic vets combined). The technician and vet were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and handled my small parrot with great care. He received the most thorough examination he’s ever had, yet the pricing was very reasonable. Unlike many other clinics, we never felt rushed or pressured into taking unnecessary tests on the spot. Instead, the technician offered helpful suggestions to improve our parrot’s quality of life, while the vet clearly explained potential future exams to better monitor his health if we wished to. Everything about the experience was impeccable, and this clinic is now our go-to. Plus, the nail trim was perfect! Huge thanks from Yoshi!
Expérience fantastique: Have brought two of my guinea pigs here in the past year, one for lice and one for a respiratory issue. Staff is super friendly, knowledgeable, adept at pig handling, and answered all my questions/concerns. Would highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Came many times for check ups and meds for our rats and rabbits. Unfortunately we had to put a rat senior to sleep urgently, and they had room for us, gave us the time for the transition. Also best prices for exotic animals since they specialize in it, worth the long trip.
Expérience fantastique: Went here to get my little bunny spayed and she recovered with no problems. The staff, technicians and the doctors did such a great job and explained everything carefully, without being pushy or upselling anything. Love that, love the convenient location and also love how they have Oxbrow products always on hand! Thank you so much to this clinic. Good to know my little girl is able to be in good hands.
Expérience fantastique: we have mixed feelings, just because we had to put our beloved bun to sleep... But from the service of the young lady who took our call to the vet we saw for the first time, this clinic is one of the best, if not the best.
Expérience fantastique: They saved the life of my lovely Canary. They have a very professional staff and team. Thank You ❤️
Expérience fantastique: Very professional, very clean and all the staff were friendly and showed great care when handling our pet. We look forward to our next check up with them!
Expérience négative: Professional and knowledgeable doctors who provide excellent care. However, the behavior of the receptionists could be improved for a better overall experience
Thank you for your comment. We have done an internal follow-up to see what exactly needs to be improved. I trust your next experience with us will be more pleasing. Dr. Brieger
Expérience fantastique: Very kind personnel and fair prices.
Expérience fantastique: Consultation price is standard, a bit less than 105$ with txs, which is great when you're in doubt with your little loved one. The vets are super honest. They are not trying to get your money for useless testings and exams. I'm glad they are there and will keep going there as long as I need it !
Expérience négative: They should know better when to operate on a bird by looking at their health and condition. They took my birds life while he was sick, by try to “extract” fluid from his crop. Could have suggested to wait a bit till he feels better…not to mention he got sick/weak from one of their medication which they weren’t even sure he had that problem in first place. So just gave him med for something they weren’t sure my bird has and then got him weak and sick and they decided to take out fluid while he was sick and he died from heart attack cause his weak body couldn’t take it anymore.
Expérience fantastique: I can tell they take great care of my bunny, It’s a bit far & expensive but its hard to find a good place like this that actually handles other animals.
Expérience fantastique: Great staff, very knowledgeable and helpful for our budgie's first vet checkup. Also great selection of bird-safe toys and treats, far better than what I've seen at local pet stores!
Expérience négative: Make sure you have a house to mortgage before bringing your pet to this vet clinic. You're an absolute joke.
Expérience fantastique: Saw me the same day I called for a sick 5 week old squirrel squirrel. Very kind and helpful.
Expérience fantastique: I have been bringing my hedgehog for yearly exams here for the past three years and always had a great experience. Their veterinarians really know how to handle and examine hedgehogs, which is pretty rare. Their examination were thorough and really made me feel like they knew their stuff and cared about the health of my pet. The place is clean, well maintained and service is excellent. Highly recommended for any exotic pet owners!
Expérience négative: ( Retroactive) Cancelations fees ?. This business aked me to pay a cancellation fees of 2 years ago prior take a new appointement in 2024. A business can only keep the payments you've made in advance or ask you to pay a cancellation charge if it's fair to do so. If the fee overly burdens a customer, it may be considered a penalty and be invalid. In fact, it is necessary to know who is subject to the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the law that prohibits imposing predetermined cancellation fees. It applies to merchants.
Expérience fantastique: Always kind and caring when I go with my rats
Expérience fantastique: ChatGPT I recently had the pleasure of visiting a remarkable clinic specializing in avian and exotic animal care, and I am beyond impressed. My parrot, Quinn, needed some specialized attention, and from the moment we stepped into the clinic, it was evident that we were in good hands. The care and professionalism displayed by the entire staff were truly exceptional. The veterinarian who attended to Quinn was not only knowledgeable and skilled but also incredibly kind and gentle. Their honest approach and genuine concern for Quinn's well-being immediately put me at ease. It was evident that they had Quinn's best interests at heart, and their dedication to providing the highest standard of care was truly commendable. Moreover, I must mention the vet technician who assisted us during our visit. Her warmth, attentiveness, and patience were truly remarkable. She took the time to thoroughly explain Quinn's medication regimen, ensuring that I felt confident in administering it at home. Her attention to detail and genuine care for Quinn's comfort and recovery were truly heartwarming. After such an outstanding experience, I can confidently say that I would never consider taking Quinn anywhere else for veterinary care. Their commitment to providing exceptional care for birds and exotic animals is evident in every aspect of their practice. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone in need of specialized care for their feathered or exotic companions. Trust me; you won't find a more fantastic clinic anywhere else. Thank you for your outstanding service and for taking such wonderful care of Quinn.
Expérience fantastique: My visit was because my hamster was walking weird, would not eat nor drink. They explained the possible problems, the treatment options with prices and all the possible outcomes right there on the spot. Probably the best service I ever got from a vet. Also after the medication prescription, my hammie started eating and drinking again! Abolutely recommend this place. Thank you guys!
Expérience fantastique: Excellent service! Love the staff :) Also, they saved my rabbit and my friends rabbits lives, and thousands of dollars when others had said it was hopeless or wanted huge surgeries. Highly recommend, they are super dedicated.
Expérience négative: Most of the staff don't seem to be up to date on basic treatments for the various types of animals under their care, and that leads to them making mistakes. Take your precious animals elsewhere.
Expérience fantastique: I had a good experience here with my gecko that was acting really lethargic and refusing food. After some exams they discovered she had parasites. The treatment was successful and nowadays she's doing much better and eating well. I recommend this place if you're looking for a reptile vet in MTL.
Expérience fantastique: Very good experience for my pet rabbit. Dr. Henry went above and beyond in assisting my pet. They have small pets and bird food and treats that you can buy. Highly recommended!
Expérience fantastique: Was a great help to not only one but both (2) of my bearded dragons. Unfortunately my smallest dragon (Takoyaki) showed signs of parasites (fatigue, not/refusing to eating). They were able to see them the next business day and provided care (ie medication, tools to give medication) for both of my dragons. They were very commentating when their was a mix up with the medication they had originally gave us. Extremely helpful and respectful to our pets needs along with our concerns. 10/10 would recommend! Update: my little lady passed, I cannot explain the degree of gratitude I have for the staff in helping me not only process the death of my pet but assist me in finding the best way in remembering my loss pet (picking an urn) To my surprise a few weeks later, the clinic sent me a card in respects to my loss pet Once again 10 or 10 highly recommend going to the clinic if you have a exotic pet
Expérience fantastique: Compassionate and expertly knowledgeable in avian care, they took amazing care of our cockatiel Frankie for 15 and a half years. His 190-page vet record at the clinic speaks to all they've done for him - from the time he first came as a recent rescue with anxiety and poor nutrition, through tummy bugs, minor accidents, silly mishaps (like when he got a can of tuna spilled all over himself!), routine checkups and nail trims, advice on home care and behaviour, to years of successfully managing chronic illnesses with complex medication needs, all the way to outliving a tumour prognosis late in his long and well-lived life. He was an old bird surrounded by a lot of love when he passed away peacefully here at the clinic, in the arms of his favourite human, with his family present and supported by a caring vet. All the staff, techs, and doctors here have been wonderful to us over the years, even when the situations were challenging and stressful (for us, them, and our bird). They've helped as best they could with keeping the bills and prescriptions manageable, even when money was tight. Our Frankie didn't like all of the vets and techs that worked here over the years equally (and he saw many of them), but they all did their best - and it showed in our bird's health in the long run. We are thankful for all they've done, and heartily recommend them as the best team for avian vet needs in the area.
Expérience fantastique: Very clean clinic. Welcoming staff. Took great care of my guinea pig.
Expérience négative: This vet place is hit or miss, and I'm starting to get tired of their tactics and way of dealing with treatments. TLDR; Ask a lot of questions, do some research to know what to ask for, and make sure you're informed to avoid paying thousands of dollars and time going back and forth, or to avoid taking the risk of losing your animal to a heart attack because of some lack of judgment. I have had a few experiences now (started going around early 2020) and either I would get charged for a full appointment when one vet would tell me I could've only asked for extra medication and did not need an extra consultation (which is 90$ flat). They did refund this appointment back then when I asked for it because the vet herself "messed up" by telling me the appointment was not needed (but really, she just said the truth). I didn't leave a bad review back then, but it's been a lot of the same recently which I don't find acceptable. I got in a situation where I needed a few interventions on my animal who got badly injured, and at first they only gave me anti-inflammatory meds which was surprising to me - the next day, my animal was on the verge of death; weak pulse, lethargic, and struggling to breathe. I saw a different vet on the third visit and they told me the injury she got was comparatively worse than kidney stones for humans, and therefore would absolutely need painkillers. None of that was mentioned to me on the first two appointments. They just said they couldn't predict how my animal would react, but paying 20$ for a preventive painkiller would have made much more sense than taking an emergency appointment in the morning when I have to miss work and pay an extra 70$ for a follow-up that could've been avoided. The most recent (and most disturbing) experience was them strongly pushing to give her a general anesthesia and made me sign a paper about whether or not I wanted to resuscitate her in case of a heart attack. The two previous vets told me my animal's injury damaged her heart and that a general anesthesia would most likely be fatal to her. I had to fight a tech and a vet for a local anesthesia instead and the vet was reticent to give it to her for a reason I don't understand at all - and after they agreed, the local anesthesia worked out perfectly, which is absurd to think she didn't even try that option, knowing how likely it would be fatal to my animal. I've left a positive review for Dr Hebert in the past because I do think she is very nice and professional with the animals and I felt I could trust her, and Dr Henri Guyot is the one who informed me about the pain levels of my animal's injury which I felt was truthful and made me trust her as well. But it's like every time I go there, I have to either take the decisions for them (asking for antibiotics and painkillers because they don't consider it themselves) or fight against them to get a proper treatment (firmly refusing the general anesthesia knowing full well there a much safer and cheaper option to try first). The first estimate for that last appointment was around 250$ and I ended up paying 100$ because I asked enough questions to know 5 or 6 of the charges were not necessary. I understand vets are expensive, but I feel like they're looking for reasons to make me come back and charge me for consultations and follow-ups when there is no need for them. The manager called me directly after I said I had paid around 800-900$ total for my animal's treatment and had unnecessary follow-ups and lack of judgment from one of the vets I saw, and they ended up giving me a 15$ "discount" as if I should be thankful for it. They said they would get back to me to see if there was more that could be done, but they never did. I'm tired of feeling like they're not actually listening or considering the options that are suited for the animals and the budget of their owners. It's starting to feel like a cash grab a lot of the times, or like lazy assessments which result in me having to go back many times unnecessarily.
Expérience fantastique: Best clinique for their services, and their kindness. They savez my bird of a cancer, we took a chance and it work! Very very nice doctors and staff.
Expérience fantastique: I have been a customer here since ~ 2005 & They are the best! Always providing quality care and follow-up to my 3 bunnies through the years. They have helped me through emergencies, check-ups, end-of-life care and so much more. Rest assured your animal(s) are in good hands here
Expérience fantastique: I was attended by this woman called Mara who was literally the sweetest person on earth. She was truly a great person and employee. She attended my bunny with such care, all while showing and explaining what she was doing. Thank you for making my experience so pleasant, I will definitely come back!
Expérience fantastique: This vet clinic is a great resource for people with small rodents and exotic animals. Despite price increases in recent years , the prices at this clinic have remained fair and they have been very good in offering informed choices and solutions.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent service. Took good care of our pet hamster.
Expérience négative: Lack of empathy and many mistakes. We will look for another vet. Here is what happened: At the first visit we found out that our Guinea pig had a stone in her urethra. When I told the vet that we didn’t had the budget to pay for the surgery, she made me feel guilty about it. (Our Guinea pig passed the stone with meds only without the surgery.) They also forgot to propose probiotics to take with antibiotics. I had to ask for it myself. At the second visit, we received wrong instructions for treatment. What we were told to do was for another situation and another medicine. I noticed it didn’t make sense and called back to finally received the right instructions for treatment. They miscalculated the quantity of medicine to give us. The clinic is far from our home, it’s a disappointment to have to go back again because we don’t have enough. When I called to get more, the secretary told me it was surely us who spilled it or gave too much. I insisted and finally she checked and admitted that they miscalculated.
Expérience négative: We are extremely unsatisfied with our experience with this clinic. In the beginning of July, one of our bunnies, Zorro, started to feel ill in the early morning and passed very soon. We brought him to the clinic for cremation. Day after, our other bunny, Roxie, started to show the same symptoms and we took her to the vet as soon as possible. First guess was that she has GI stasis and she was treated accordingly. However, her condition got worse and worse and Roxie passed in the evening the same day. Later that day results of her blood tests were received and it became clear that her liver was badly damaged and there was no stasis at all. There were a number of reasons why this could happen like mechanical damage, toxin or virus. Last one, according to the doctor, was quite unlikely. Next day a person from the clinic contacted us and said that there is strong suspicion that both our bunnies were infected by RHV and their bodies need to be sent to another lab for further exams. During the next communications with the clinic one of the persons mentioned it has been a few weeks since they started to vaccinate rabbits brought to the clinic! So just bad luck for us. Now two things hit us hard. One is related to vaccination. When we first brought our bunnies to the clinic in 2018 we were told that there is no such disease in Quebec and we should not worry about it. Apparently, things changed. I can understand that there can be a small number of doses available, shortage of staff and other reasons. But was it too hard to let clients with rabbits know that this disease (RHV) with extremely high mortality rate is spreading? Owners could’ve started doing something, taken extra precautions, started looking for other clinics to vaccinate their bunnies, couldn’t they? Why do you guys even need clients files with phone numbers and emails if you are not using them to notify about such important things? We’ve been your clients for 5 years and we trusted that you will tell us everything we must know. It wouldn’t cost you much to spread the word in advance. Second thing is related to the way the clinic treated Roxie after. As soon as we were notified that she passed we told that we are coming to the clinic asap to say goodbye. When we came, she was brought to us right from the fridge! It has been less than an hour, why did the clinic need to put her there? Can you imagine how it is to say goodbye to something which is stone cold? To conclude, we understand that it is the owner’s primary responsibility to take care of the pet. But from the clinic side everything was done in the most formal and heartless way.
Expérience fantastique: Very happy with the care my little rats have gotten, especially following their surgery! :)
Expérience fantastique: Brought our bird here for the first time. I had an excellent experience, the team did an amazing job; from booking the appointment and reminders, to assisting with paperwork and making you feel comfortable.
Expérience fantastique: Staff took such great care of my bird. So passionate and caring. Will be going to this vet clinic for all my birds now.
Expérience fantastique: An absolutely amazing clinic with an absolutely amazing staff. They have been so present and supportive during some of our most difficult times. No review could properly capture how thankful we are to have them as our exotic vet team. Thank you ❤️ -Amy and Olivier
Expérience négative: Disappointing Experience: Lack of Care and Unprofessional Conduct I am writing this review to express my deep disappointment with both clinics Montreal Exotic and Longueuil Collectivité (same ownership). As a loyal client, I experienced a concerning lack of care and unprofessional conduct during my recent visits. Allow me to provide a detailed account of the events that transpired. Initially, my rabbit, Willy, was prescribed antibiotics for an extended period without improvement. Ceasing the medication, Willy's health surprisingly improved, raising questions about the treatment's effectiveness and adherence to evidence-based practices. Later, Willy developed an unrelated severe eye condition, leading me to seek assistance from one of the clinics. They performed evaluations and prescribed medication, but his condition worsened. Sharing photos and expressing the need for an appointment, I scheduled one promptly. However, upon visiting, they repeated tests yielding the same results and advised me to see a specialist. I raised concerns about the charges, as I expected a referral instead of repeating tests with no new insights. They prescribed a generic antibiotic, lacking scientific reasoning. Polite discussions with a technician and the veterinarian yielded no resolution. Despite paying and leaving, I was told the responsible party would contact me during the week. When she called, I expressed my concerns, and she appreciated my constructive and respectful comments. She assured me of discussing the matter with the team and providing a response. Regrettably, communication ceased, and my follow-up emails went unanswered. To my surprise, I received a formal reply stating I had been banned from the clinic. This decision showcases immoral and unprofessional behavior, highlighting their inability to manage disagreements despite my respectful approach. Their focus appears to be securing payment for substandard work. In conclusion, my experience with these clinics has been deeply disappointing. The lack of care, unprofessional conduct, and disregard for loyal clients is concerning. I urge others to seek alternative veterinary care that respects their concerns and prioritizes their pets' well-being.
Expérience fantastique: Best exotic vet in Montreal. They always take care of our little rat guys ♡ Seriously though, it's very clear that everyone working here is kind and love their patients. Every single vet and technician has always been kind to us and our little rattos. They always give you options and explain what's happening with your animal.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent, wonderful place to board your birds. My Amazon, Samantha, just spent 2 weeks there and she's totally perfect.
Expérience fantastique: Really great service! I brought my rat in for a visit and they were very kind and non-judgemental. I even got a call back a few days later to check on her condition!
Expérience fantastique: Wonderful staff, vet techs, and Doctors. They were able to treat our bunny Hayden in an emergency. Throughout the whole process, they communicative and helpful. If you have a rabbit in Montreal, these the people to be your vet!
Expérience fantastique: I had somewhat of a bird emergency today and called them to ask if I should bring my green cheek conure in. They were able to take care of my bird between 2 appointments within an hour of my call. She ate something she shouldn't have so they gave her the appropriate treatment and kept her a few hours for observation. Consultations are $75 which seems to be an usual rate for avian vets. The people at the reception area were friendly and the veterinarian I talked to had time to answer my questions and explain the options that were available. When I came back to pick up my bird, they gave me a bag with different food and treat samples to try. They sell a few different kind of bird pellets (Tropican, Harrison's and Lafeber) as well as a small selection of toys, mostly the shreddable kind.
Expérience fantastique: They take great care of my bunny! Highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing service!!! My bird was lost for 6 days and they were ready to see her. Thanks again!!!
Expérience fantastique: Amazing staff and reasonably priced. I come here for my rats
Expérience fantastique: Always a great experience here! Staff always answer my questions and reassures me my ferrets are okay. I always ask for extra services because I’m anxious and like to be 100% my babies are okay and they always tell me if they don’t think a service is needed or what they recommend we can do instead. They handle my ferrets well and are quick and efficient with appointments. I also like that they call the day before to confirm because I have forgotten about appointments a few times.
Expérience fantastique: Nice and caring people, took very good care of my daughters bearded dragon.
Expérience fantastique: I have ferrets. What I like about this place is that they take new patients.
Expérience positive: Pricey but ... saved our exotic pet. Thanks
Expérience fantastique: Very kind, supportive and attentive staff. Price are very reasonable too.
Expérience fantastique: Great service! Amazed how professional and caring they are
Expérience fantastique: We are so lucky to live so close to this amazing hospital and boarding centre. We've had good experiences on the boarding side and the vet/emergency side.
Expérience fantastique: I love it here! Very profesional and friendly staff, kind with the animals and they explain everything for your animal’s treatment clearly. They also have a good selection of items to buy for your pets.
Expérience fantastique: Everyone is incredibly nice and the vet was incredibly patient with my 3 rats
Expérience positive: The hospitality is good but over it’s two expensive to get a check-up done for your pets, for consultation of birds they charge a fee of 280CAD plus taxes and treatment is added depending upon the condition of the pet.
Hello and thank you for your positive review.
With regards to the fees, is it possible that you were thinking about Centre vétérinaire Laval? Their emergency fee is indeed $280 as far as I know.
Here at the Montreal bird and exotic animal veterinary hospital, the consulting fee for birds is between $80 (small birds) and $86 (larger birds). So maybe your review was not intended for us here?
Please let me know if you have any further comments, good or bad, by calling us on 514-486-5258. All the best.
Dr. Brieger, owner
Expérience positive: Staff is always nice and they take care of your pet family. Khargoshi is always tested nice.
Expérience fantastique: I brought my 1.5yr old russian dwarf hamster to see the vet because he developed some kind of mass in his mouth. Dr. Magalie Couturier talked to him during the whole exam explaining what she was doing just like a doctor normally talks to a patient, we really appreciated that. We decided to do surgery to remove the mass. She went over a detailed estimate with me explaining what is necessary and what is optional so I knew what to expect to pay for the procedure. It was very scary for me because he is not a young hamster and there are many risks, but the surgery was successful and ended up costing less then the estimate. All the staff is friendly, responsive and are happy to answer all your questions. I'm very thankful for their amazing service and helping my hamster to live his best life.
Expérience fantastique: Very friendly & knowledgeable staff, this clinic worked hard to accommodate my pet and me.
Expérience fantastique: My rats get more care and follow-ups for their medical issues than I do Great vet team.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing service, friendly staff! Dr. Brieger was super professional, and attentive to my (very) geriatric bunny's needs.
Expérience fantastique: Everyone is so knowledgeable here, my bunny was well taken care of after his neuter, and recovered well. My favourite vet, you can't go wrong here.
Expérience négative: I brought my bunny Kristy to the Vet yesterday evening. I had an appointment as she was not well at all. She was seen by the Vet and was prescribed a few medications and got 2 injections. When I got home, she was worse than when i went in. A few hours later she was beginning to have seizures. I comforted her and held her until she died in my arms at 12:20AM . I called the Exotic vet to announce her passing and to prepare to close her file. I always ask for a copy of the report of the medical visit to keep in my file. The secretary tells me there is a $10. charge for that. I didn't want the whole file just the visit from the day before. Enough I was charged a pretty penny the night before now they want more. The pain of losing a precious pet, and then they want to gouge you for more money. I'm so disappointed and angry at what this clinic has become.
Expérience fantastique: I've been going to this clinic for 4 years, for four different pets. They are exceptionnal. The receptionnists are kind, helpful and always go the extra mile for you. The veterinarians are knowledgable, skillful and very compassionate. The technicians handle pets carefully and with love. The service they provide justifies the price you pay at the end. This is an elite team of skilled workers. Special thanks to Dr. Brieger, the owner.
Expérience fantastique: Really nice staff, more affordable than most vets. They have knowledge with rats and took care of my babies today. Would recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Was lucky to be able to get an appointment on the next day due to someone’s cancellation. Saved Teemo’s life by healing the huge abscess on its butt. That was about two months ago. This week I used the same medication to heal my old Teemo again for another abscess on its belly.
Expérience fantastique: I’ve had a great experience at this clinic. The receptionists were both kind and helpful. I asked to be called if there was any cancellation as I was worried for my pet and they did. It was my first visit there, bringing in my guinea pig Ruby, and the clinic made me feel at ease. The doctor was super nice and took the time to ask about Ruby’s lifestyle and did a full exam (came in for an eye infection). Turns out that my piggie is having some rare eye condition and need to take medication with a follow up to monitor her symptoms. The technitian was very sweet with Ruby and showed me how to hold her for the prescribed eye drops. I am very grateful for all the help received today and I trust this clinic 100%
Expérience fantastique: Brought my pet snake to see if he was healthy and in good shape it was the best experience I had in years. professionnel educational and very nice friendly staff. Would recommend to everybody thank you thank you thank you from your friend. Puppy
Expérience fantastique: This is the only vet. Clinic that treats exotic birds in the city. They are great. Helpful and very kind. Unfortunately, as there's no insurance for birds in Canada, the prices go up fast, very fast. Tx to Dr. Hebert, she is wonderful and offers all the possible options and helps you choose what's best for your bird. Thanks to all the stuff members, very nice and supportive.
Expérience fantastique: Wonderful experience here, they took great care of our little Munchkin until his very last day. We initially came to check a lump on our Syrian hamster, and the vet said sadly it's a cancerous growth. She gave him painkillers, and a month to live. One month later, we call saying he became less active. She recommends scheduling an appointment to put him down, as situations with hamsters degrade quickly. It happened as she said, the next day he was doing unusual sounds of pain . When we arrived at our euthanasia appointment, the vet was very professional, he checked his file, injected him, ensured Munchkin's heart stopped beating with his stethoscope, gave us his condoleances, some time to process and spend with Munchkin, and said its good we accompanied our hamster until his very last breath. They made the best they could with a sad situation, and I thank them. Not overly expensive for some poor students like us. I would like this clinic to take care of my future roborovski hamsters, and wish every caring staff member here good fortune in life.
Expérience fantastique: The veterinarians at this clinic saved my ferret's life. He was diagnosed with a very rare, deadly disease. The staff were very supportive throughout my ferret's treatment and always kept me informed as to what was going on with him. Everyone at this clinic are so friendly and helpful. I know that my fur babies are always safe at this clinic. I have even boarded my pets here when I have gone on vacation. I love that they play with my pets and don't just leave them in a cage all day while I am gone. I would recommend this vet clinic to anyone with an exotic pet
Expérience négative: If you need anything other than checkups or convenient care, don't bother. They'll tell you to go to an emergency clinic anyway. Also, FYI, be prepared to pay an extra 200$+ at the emergency clinic just to be seen... Good luck pet owners!
