Our comment from InfoVet about Southglen Veterinary Hospital:
Southglen Veterinary Hospital is known for its friendly and compassionate staff who go above and beyond in caring for pets and their owners. Many clients have praised the knowledgeable veterinarians, especially Dr. Blankvoort and Dr. Litchfield, for their ability to provide clear treatment plans and empathetic support during difficult times. The hospital has extended hours, making it convenient for urgent pet care needs, and has earned a reputation for being understanding and accommodating, particularly in emergency situations.
Positive highlights include:
- Extended operating hours, including weekends.
- Kind and compassionate staff who treat both pets and owners with empathy.
- Experience with various cases, including urgent and end-of-life situations.
- Willingness to assist in emergency cases, even for non-regular clients.
However, some clients have expressed concerns regarding pricing, noting that the costs can be significantly higher than other veterinary services in the area. Issues have also been reported with follow-up care and communication. While many appreciate the level of care, others feel that the billing practices are overly aggressive and that the focus may sometimes shift to profit over patient care.
In conclusion, Southglen Veterinary Hospital offers a blend of compassionate care and convenience, making it a recommended choice for pet owners, though potential clients should be prepared for higher-than-average costs.

Southglen Veterinary Hospital: Reviews
Negative experience: Had to take my pet for a infection that I found out it had when I got home from work. Only positive part about this place was that it's open later than most vets in the city so you don't have to pay emergency rates when you do go there. But you end up paying almost emergency rates anyways when you go there anyways because they charge double for basically anything examination wise. Vets were very misleading about financing as they want to get your money as quickly as possible. I asked about financing and the vet disappeared for a while and didn't do anything to come out with another vet that said that they did do financing, updating me on my pet and then afterwards having the the other vet come back telling me that they don't do financing... Kenaston vet by the Costco off Pembina is a solid choice for your pets as of 2026. What i would have been charged around $200 to $250 for @ Kenaston, they charged me over $400 for. Will consider changing my review if the appropriate actions are taken by S.G.vet
Negative experience: Please call around to other vets asking for price quotes before coming here. This place charges nearly double the amount then other places for blood work, spay and more.
Fantastic experience: Great place! Especially Jessica the tech!
Fantastic experience: I brought my cat in for ear issues, and the staff was amazing. Dr. Blankvoort was gentle, thorough, and very understanding of my situation as a student. They treated my cat so well and even helped me with the cost, which I truly appreciate. My cat already feels so much better. Thank you to the whole team at Southglen—you made a stressful day so much easier.
Fantastic experience: Oh my God, this is a super wonderful place where you can bring your pet and be sure that they will help you and him with pleasure I am infinitely grateful to the staff for their welcome and help
Fantastic experience: We had to use this vet for the worst reason, but they were so compassionate and thoughtful on one of our family's worst days. Thank you Dr. Litchfield and Jessica for helping us through our loss.
Negative experience: We used to see a great vet here, the new vet we saw wasn't kind and he didn't offer me all the options available to keep my cat comfortable with breathing issues. Even though I asked if there was anything else that would help. Now they want me to pay for another exam so I can get him an inhaler that should have been offered last time.
Negative experience: Went all the waaay there for an appt, sat there… sat in the room…. Just to be sent home for them to be busy with another animal.. Twice now this has happened!
Negative experience: My dog had a cancerous tumor on his face. The "Dr. Sra Said it was a pimple?! and squeezed it causing so much pain my dog tried to bite him. It turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer requiring surgery and ultimately the dog passed away from it.
Fantastic experience: Always nothing short of amazing. I've brought all my pets here for years and I'm never dissatisfied.
Negative experience: I took my cat here for a broken leg, and was charged an insane amount. I didn't get to sit in a private room like I have with any other animal I have ever had, nor did I get to see proof of the x-rays. They put a splint on her, that at some point caused an infection to her paw. Also because we didn't return their phone calls they called the animal patrol officers on us. When I told friends and family I went here, they were upset, saying they didn't have the best experience and or outcome here either, and that place is $$$$$.
Negative experience: We have an anxious rescue dog (Manitoba Mutts alum). She started going to vets at Southglen upon being rescued almost 7 years ago now. Our first vet there who now works in Ontario, I believe, was wonderful. She demonstrated empathy, care and compassion for both our dog and us and first time dog owners. Unfortunately over the years the professionalism and lack of understanding has greatly diminished. We had a very bad experience recently which has pushed us to make the tough decision to find a new veterinarian. The lack of professionalism and communication became too disappointing. I would not recommend this clinic.
Positive experience: The staff are amazing but if something goes wrong or you need a follow up it’s very challenging to reach them or have someone tell you what is going on.
Negative experience: I’m deeply disappointed and heartbroken by the complete lack of empathy, urgency, and helpfulness I experienced from Southglen Veterinary Hospital during a frightening medical situation involving my puppy. My puppy had eaten mouse poison while we were out of town and was prescribed a life-saving medication, vitamin K1, that she needed to continue for several weeks. As we were running out of the medication, I called the original (out-of-town) vet, who said they would send the prescription to Southglen. That’s where the problems started. When I called Southglen to confirm, the receptionist told me they couldn’t help because the prescription wasn’t written for the concentration they carry. Even though it was the exact same medication, she said they couldn’t do anything and that I had to call the prescribing vet myself to have it rewritten. I explained that vet’s office was now closed and it was the start of a long weekend. Her response was, “Well, we can’t do anything about that.” No offer to help. No concern for the fact that this was a life-threatening situation. If your dog got vitamin K1 but didn’t need it: • It’s unlikely to cause harm. • Vitamin K1 is a fat-soluble vitamin, and toxicity is extremely rare. • Short-term use (even a few weeks) is usually very well tolerated. • Side effects are uncommon, but in rare cases, dogs might experience: • Mild gastrointestinal upset (like diarrhea or decreased appetite) • Injection site reactions (if given by injection) The bigger risk is not giving it when it’s needed — especially with poisons like brodifacoum, which can cause fatal internal bleeding after a delay of several days to weeks. She told me they don’t make phone calls to other clinics and suggested I call an emergency clinic to find out if they carried the other concentration, and then drive the prescription over there myself. Thankfully, the out-of-town vet was reachable through their emergency line and kindly adjusted the prescription and resent it to Southglen. But hours later, I still hadn’t heard from Southglen. When I followed up, I was told the dose wasn’t specified on the prescription. I asked them why they didn't call me hours ago to let me know that, she responded that she had emailed the other Vet and hadn't heard from them... When I started crying and said the prescribing vet wouldn’t see an email over the long weekend, the receptionist just repeated that they couldn’t do anything more. She again suggested I pick up the prescription and bring it somewhere else myself. I asked if I could come get the prescription (it was just before 8 p.m.) and she replied that they were closing right away. When I asked what I was supposed to do, since my dog could literally die without this medication, she had no answer. When I said I wanted to file a complaint and asked her name, she simply said, “We’re closed,” and hung up on me. This experience left me feeling helpless, angry, and terrified. I didn’t need much — just someone to care, to help me problem-solve, and to act like my dog’s life mattered. Instead, I was treated coldly, dismissed repeatedly, and ultimately hung up on. I understand policies, protocols, and limits. But there was no compassion, no help and certainly no empathy from anyone at Southglen when it was so desperately needed. I will never trust this clinic with the care of any animal I love again.
Fantastic experience: I recently took my cat here, my cat was having trouble walking and losing weight/not eating. I was happy to hear they had a walk-in on the weekend and also extended hours compared to my main vet. Even if the vet was very busy, they made time for me and made sure to see my cat(we did have to wait an hour) and I'm very glad I did because we ruled out issues the first visit, I went back to them again with an appointment quickly and ran all the tests we could, found that the xray had some abnormalities, got an ultrasound booked 2 days later, got the results the next day. I was told that my 15 year old boy has liver cancer, I was given some options on how to prolonged his life using chemo and steroids and ultimately ended up euthanizing my boy to ease his suffering. They again made sure I could get seen the next day due to the circumstances, everything was very humane, empathetic and professional and I really appreciate everything they did. Key points here, my cat was deteriorating, my normal vet couldn't see me for a week or more, this vet prioritized my cats needs and made sure we got the answers extremely quick to make the best decision for my cat. I really recommend bringing your pets here and wish I would have found out about this place before.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and nice that they are open on Sundays. Have always received good care for my dog.
Negative experience: Horrible place! They basically paralyzed my dog by giving her Librella and took no responsibility what so ever. Lack of accountability, compassion, and empathy!
Negative experience: Owned by private equity firm “vet strategy”. Staff is trained to overcharge and recommend unnecessary tests. Visit a private vet clinic instead.
Fantastic experience: Southglen isn't our main vet, but we started using them when our vet wasn't open evening and weekends, and I must say, I like them better than our vet! We mostly just take them here now. Dr. Blankvoort is so nice and treats my dog great, I look forward to taking my dog there. Always good experiences with the staff. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Had to put our pup down. They were great! Gave all the time we needed and explained everything.
Negative experience: I’ve taken both my cat and dog to this location. On more than one occasion I have been left waiting inside the doctors room for another staff member to return and no one does. With no communication whether the appointment was over or continuing I had to open the door and ask the front desk what the status of the appointment was. Then on a separate visit my dog tested positive for exposure to Lyme disease. He was overall very healthy and showed no signs of having Lyme disease, however his urine was dilute and protein levels were high. The doctor recommended further testing to the tune of $700. While I considered my decision to do further testing, the front desk played on any pet owners weakness by saying, “well you want to be a good pet dad, don’t you?”. I then made the decision to do the test. Test results came back inconclusive. The doctors next recommendation was more testing at rough $700 more. This time before I made my decision I consulted another veterinary clinic for a second opinion. This new doctor first commented that in their entire career they had never seen or heard about a dog testing positive for the test Southglen had initially recommended. They then recommended not to do further testing, rather monitor my dogs water intake and regulate his bathroom breaks to see if this had any change to his urine. A process which would cost me nothing to potentially see results, instead of asking for another $700 to potentially get no results again. This was the final straw for me with this vet. Not only was their repeatedly poor communication and unprofessional conduct but they completely lost any faith I had in the establishment to make the best decision for me and my pets.
Fantastic experience: I had to say goodbye to my beloved cat recently and the staff were incredibly compassionate, hugged and cried with me when she had crossed the rainbow bridge and let me hold her hand and tell her thank you and how much I loved her. They even sent me a beautiful bouquet a day after and I could not have been more thankful for such a genuine and kind team.
Fantastic experience: I just wanted to give a huge Thank you to Dr.Blankvoort and the Southglen team. Everything you’ve done for my little guy and I is very much appreciated and we’re beyond words grateful. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to all the staff at Southglen for taking care of our family and fur baby (Gizmo) when we had to put him down. We truly appreciate your kindness and the compassion you showed. You are all truly amazing. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Our 12 year old puppy (she doesn’t know she’s old), named Lucia has had a skin problem. Nothing life threatening, but needed attention. Called Southglen Vet. Called and got an appoitment a couple days after calling. The attention to Lucia’s needs, which included blood work and skin sample test, and sn examination, provided an explanation and treatment plan. Lucy is improving every day. Very profesional and compassionate attention at Southglen.
Positive experience: Our little yourkie had an emergency on a Sunday my normal vet is closed Sunday so we took her to Southglen they took her in very well. But Monday problem arrived called to speak to vet but she was off so they said another vet would call. Nobody called back. Another problem happend I called to speak to vet again nobody allied back. Unfortunately a little girl didn’t make it, not happy a phone reply would have been nice but twice no call only when they called to remind me of her test for next day did I get result because I got ticked off, vet called back 10 minutes later. Never again
Fantastic experience: I have been taking my dogs here for last 5 years. They are all very compassionate and understanding. Prices are a touch high but they are for everything.
Fantastic experience: We had a really great experience here!! For a long time we were looking for an amazing vet, and if we already hadn’t found one, I 100% would be coming here now, they are phenomenal! It was Sunday, so out normal place was closed, and we needed to bring our dog somewhere right now, as we work nights, and he wasn’t acting right when we came home in the morning. Every. Single. Person that we talked to in there was so wonderful and kind. And I’m so so thankful that we brought him here. We ended up having to leave him there for the day, which is slightly traumatic for me, we’ve only had to do that a handful of times, and mostly all for surgeries, but they made it feel the right decision & I knew that he was in good hands. If you are looking for a new vet, don’t hesitate to come here, these are the kind of people you want taking care of your babies ❤️
Fantastic experience: Stellar service, we’ve never been charged an emergency fee for bringing in our dogs. The care and empathy is always shown in all aspects.
Fantastic experience: We’ve been battling a very aggressive cancer in our cat. Without Dr. Blankvoort and the clinics amazing team, we wouldn’t get as far as we did. (In comfort and surrounded by love!)They all made sure my cat is loved and comfortable till her very last breath. Lucy was surrounded by love and care and she will always be thankful for the amazing support she got during her sickness. Biggest thanks to Dr. Blankvoort who was there for us and didn’t give up while others did! She is an angel that was sent to help our little fur babies!
Fantastic experience: My dog unfortunately had a whoopsie and I had to take him in unexpectedly. The staff was very polite and got my dog in for an exam instantly. They 100% accommodated me and my dog and for that, I extremely grateful. I highly recommend this vet
Fantastic experience: We take our foster dog to Southglen and they’re wonderful. Not only do they work with and help rescues with dogs in need, they’re also kind, loving, and great at what they do. Thank you for all of your hard work. If he could, I’m quite sure Carl would thank you too for always taking such good care of him!
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff always and clinic has great hours making it easy to pick up food and medication etc.
Fantastic experience: We have been using Southglen Vet for over 18 years and they have been a amazing partner in the care of our dogs over the years. They always provide prompt, friendly service, and the Doctors supply you with the information to make informed decisions on your pet's health/care. Great staff and hours of operation!
Fantastic experience: We are beyond satisfied with the care we received here at Southglen. The vets who practice here are practical and compassionate.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service and staff. Thank you Dr A. Litchfield for the prompt and excellent service. Caitlyn, you’re awesome! You guys saved my rabbit’s life.
Negative experience: Unbelievably expensive. Literally drained me of my savings for diagnostic testing that would have cost me 600$ at my rural vet and cost me 750$ in emergency for one of our other cats WITH medications included. Only reason we paid is cause we had already booked the appointment and he needed to be seen that day. Lesson learned I guess. For an exam fee, xray and bloodwork on a cat, it cost us just shy of 750$. Without any treatments. By the time we walked out we had spent over 1000$. Do not go here if you are tight on money/low income like we are. You'll walk away broke. We can't even afford euthanasia anymore if we need it. I'll show prices so you can make the decision and compare to other vets. Office visit was: 98$ Total for bloodwork (chem/lytes, CBC, T4 and blood collect~yes they charge a 35.36$ fee just to collect the blood) was:423.61$ ONE xray was: 225$ Subcutaneous fluids was: 52$ Plus med prices that totaled at 167.50$ Total came to 966.11$ before taxes and 1026.13$ after taxes just for our cat to walk out still in the same state, just with fluids and an anti-nausent shot...do not recommend here if you are limited on funds and want to actually be able to afford treatments.
Fantastic experience: We brought our 12 yr old large rescue to Southglen Veterinary Hospital. Our dog was throwing up and had blood in her stole. They took us in within 4 hrs and Dr Quinn diagnosed the problem and gave us meds for the dog. Dr.Quinn was extremely compassionate to our situation as were the staff. Molly is doing much better thanks to Southglen Veterinarians
Fantastic experience: Thanks to all who helped out with my big hound . You were all very compassionate taking care of that reactive boy . Can't thank you enough . Great job ❤️.
Negative experience: I took 2 dogs in for anal glands. Always been around 40.00 each . My husband paid and they charged us 130.00. WILL NEVER Go back again.
Fantastic experience: Everyone I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with at this clinic is helpful, friendly, efficient and they have always been caring and compassionate about my pets’ (cats and dog) treatments and well-being. I also really appreciate the great clinic hours as well!
Fantastic experience: I won't take my fur babies anywhere else. I'm a very attached owner, and they don't judge or make me feel like an idiot because I am. Even when I was close to broke but still needed care for my sick kitten, they worked with me to find ways to get him the help he needed without forking out 1000's of $
Fantastic experience: Had a last minute incident with my cat. Never been to this vet before. I called and was told I could do a walk in. There was an approximate wait but I got lucky and was in a room right away. The people and the vet were great people to deal with, my best ever experience with a vet hospital. Even my cat loved being there regardless of his visit. It was fast and they give you options and the knowledge for what needs to be done for your animal. This vet will be the place I’ll be going to in the future. I honestly can’t express how grateful and appreciative I am towards this hospital. Thank you so much guys!! Turned my stressful day into a good one. Highly recommend this hospital!
Negative experience: Would leave a 0 if I could what a joke this place is make me wait 1 week to get in while my dog waits for mess then when I do come in do a wellness exam then say they want a muzzle for what absolutely nothing and then refuse to continue and now my dog waits longer. What a waste of time and an absolute joke of a establishment...
Fantastic experience: Needed an appointment for calming drugs for my cat on my way through. These guys were awesome. They even supplied a repeat prescription whilst I was in Newfoundland so she continue her travels happily. Thanks ladies!
Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service, great professional work. Absolutely great clinic and staff!!! Thank you all for your patience, care, and follow up!
Negative experience: Gouging food prices they have steadily increased the price of their animal foods i buy a flat of dm cat food used to be 60 bucks its now 91 just called another vet and they are charging 75. Gouging customers is a poor business practice
Fantastic experience: Southglen is it not our regular clinic. We had an emergency situation with our 17 year old dog on a Sunday, and realized at 3pm that he was not going to make it. We called Southglen as we live outside of Winnipeg and they were the closest clinic open on a Sunday. I'm not sure if they typically accept non patients for emergency euthanasia, but they were very understanding and got us in right away. Our 3 daughters wanted to come with us just in case, and the clinic kindly accommodated our entire family. They confirmed our worst fears that Puff was not going to make it, and were very compassionate while we said our goodbyes. They did his paw prints for us and mailed us a lovely card as well. No one ever wants to put their dog down, and Southglen provided a caring and compassionate atmosphere to help us through it - and as mentioned above we are not even regular customers.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They took care of my cats and my needs in a professional and friendly matter. The vet was so gentle with her.
Negative experience: I had the worst experience you could imagine with Dr. Guinn. I have no idea how this vet clinic is rated so highly. I was on a trial period with a Frenchie puppy who had a heart murmur. I was fully aware of his condition but wanted a second opinion before I fully committed. Moments prior to my arrival at the clinic my puppy was happily playing with his brother. I arrived and they immediately took him into the back room. I heard him scream and Dr. Guinn came into the room to tell me his condition is so serious, he needed to be euthanized. He was also hooked up to an IV and oxygen without our knowledge. There was little to no recommendation, she was practically forcing our hands. She said the only thing we could do is bring him to Bridgewater Veterinary Hospital, spend over $1,000.00 just to save him for the night, and buy him only 1 week of life. We refused and so she refused to let us take our dog out of their care and insisted we euthanize our dog, but had to contact the breeder first, as he was on a trial period. She even confirmed I should call my boyfriend to leave work and say goodbye to the puppy - and so I did and he came and also fought by my side for his life. After much back and forth, she finally agreed to let me take him as long as I signed a waiver acknowledging that he was most likely going to pass away that night and he would die a “cruel death” as he was going to internally drown to death. I also had to promise I wound euthanize him the next day. Well that was almost 5 months ago. And though he has a heart condition, I’ve seen a specialist who confirmed she would NEVER approve euthanizing him and that he can live a good, pain free life. On top of that, the X-rays we paid $400.00 for were so poorly done another vet clinic couldn’t even read them, nevermind use them to justify euthanizing a puppy. This dog has travelled the world with me and is my best friend. Her erratic decision almost cost him his life. Stay away from this clinic, or at least Dr. Guinn. UPDATE: We just celebrated his 1st birthday 2 months ago. He acts and behaves very similar to how a normal dog would. It still baffles me that Dr. Guinn almost forced my hand to euthanize a dog whom was capable of living a normal, healthy life. Be careful people!
Negative experience: Friendly staff, great hours, knowledgeable veterinarians. Only downfall...it’s pricey. UPDATE: our dog was very sick, they couldn't see him, went to Winrose and they helped us. Switched vets.
Fantastic experience: Came here to put my siamese to sleep and staff were very nice and let us take all the time we needed to spend time with her. They were also the most cost efficient place to do euthanasia/cremation that I could find in south Winnipeg.
Fantastic experience: We had an appointment to put our girl to sleep at our regular vet, but she got worse the night beforeThey got us in no problem that evening and took fantastic care of our girl in her final moments. The staff and the doctor were great. Thank you so much.
Negative experience: Very unhelpful over the phone. I have to pry answers out of them as they always say "I can't give you a price unless we know the severity" whereas other vets will tell you how much for example, each x-ray photo costs. These types of things are per item cost, so just give me the cost of each item that I may need instead of forcing me to come in and suck the over priced examination fee out of me before you can give me a quote.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous clinic for your pet. Receptionists were pleasant and efficient. Vet was very compassionate and very gentle with our dog. She listened to my concerns and was sensitive to my requests . I highly recommend this clinic.
Fantastic experience: I was absolutely thrilled with the service I got here. Everybody was so kind and so considerate. I love how I was treated. I felt they really cared about the cat that I brought in . It was amazing. When they felt a procedure shouldn't be done they didn't do it. I really appreciate the care they gave my pet. The clinic on Henderson highway could really learn a lot from the South Glen clinic. I don't want to mention the clinic's name but it's next to McDonald's. The vets there are amazing but the front staff and some of the technicians could really learn a lot from South Glen. I would recommend this clinic in a heartbeat. I especially appreciated being respected and shown empathy by Jessica and Jessica and several of the people in the front entrance. The vets were so professional. I thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart. When I left your clinic I felt like everything was done that could have been done and I really felt respected and valued. I wish you all at Southland Clinic all the very best because you definitely deserve it.
Fantastic experience: I tried to make an appointment but they were not able to accommodate my cat today. I found a spot at another clinic and requested Southglen to send my cats info to the vet that was able to see us today. They were happy to help and I appreciate it. Thank you Southglen! They saw my cat last year and were able to resolve an issue she was having.
Fantastic experience: Southglen isn’t my home Veterinarian however I phone and the lady I spoke with and technologist helped me over the phone to make me feel better about my dogs situation. Highly recommend them :) thank you
Negative experience: Took my 1 year old cat here in an emergency, they didn’t even look at him and just sent us away because we told them his symptoms and they said he was fine for the night. They only did that because they where apparently full for the night not because he was okay because we ended up taking him to biridgewater vet and he had cancer and he ended up dying that night. Very glad I didn’t listen to them because if we would have found him dead in the morning we wouldn’t have been heartbroken. DO NOT TAKE UR PETS HERE!!!!
Fantastic experience: Very compassionate people here. Come right out and said that our little kitty had a serious issue and euthanasia wasn't off the table. Did an xray and found our beloved cat had a massive tumor. Unfortunately we had to let her go.
Fantastic experience: Very efficient and helpful during an emergency with my dog. He was well taken care of through out his stay with them.
Positive experience: Southglen Vet has great regular hours. Open later than most clinics, that means regular pricing for your urgent pet care needs. Having said that, bring a wheel barrel of cash with you. Pricey exam fee!
Fantastic experience: Today' appoinment for our pup Piper was as usual friendly, fast, courteous and very efficient. Thank you for letting us wait in the lobby as we were half an hour early and pouring rain outside.
Fantastic experience: They were very caring, professional and Informative. I will continue to trust in them to give my fur baby the best possible care at an affordable price.
Negative experience: Brought my cats here as a new client, was not allowed to be present while they did any work with the cats. Any exams/shots/treatments are administered in a back room without the owner. Was originally told this was in an effort to social distance, but was then told by a different employee that it "has always been the procedure". One of my cats came home with a limp after getting her shots, I called the clinic and they requested we come in for a recheck, which I was charged a second exam fee for (since it was with a different vet, which I was not aware of). I sent several emails following up with my concerns and questions about the care of my cat, reply emails only answered select questions, not all of them. It was very frustrating. I have tried to be patient and friendly in fear of being a "difficult client" but I have not been provided with the same courtesy by a significant portion of the reception staff that I've spoken to. All in all I'm very disappointed with my experiences at this clinic and I will not be going back. How are you supposed to be able to trust unfamiliar veterinary staff with your animals when they refuse to let you observe how they handle your pets??
Negative experience: BEWARE - This office was purchased by “VETSTRATEGY” a large corporation that owns 350 offices in Canada and is currently gobbling up small Winnipeg offices while fiercely competing with those remaining! The service reflects these facts. If you ask to speak to an owner, like I did you will likely get some 20 year old minimum wage "manager" whose job is to stonewall your concerns. My dog was brought to Southglen for paw intense paw licking (so bad he was unable to sleep) and occasional limping. Unlike other offices I was unable to accompany the dog due to "Covid Restrictions" and was asked to wait in the car. After 5 minutes the doctor called stating that she did not find anything "really wrong" with the paws and that it was “difficult to assess due to the animal pulling back his paws” (You got that right -A vet unable to examine an animal!-and a friendly one) I instructed she look more closely requesting a lab cytology. After re-assessment the animal was diagnosed with "allergies" and yeast on paws and was given an injection and some cream. The bill was shy of $400.00 After almost two weeks on the doctor’s protocol licking persisted with limping. I shaved the fur and saw dried blood and rawness. I contacted Southglen Mar 2/2022 to GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY for re-assessment and was told there would be another charge and offered a spot around midnight! I asked to speak to the “owner” and was told there was no “owner” that the office “was purchased by a company”. I advised I would be going elsewhere as my dog was in discomfort and the policy was unfair. To return to such incompetence and pay again was also ill advised. Another office diagnosed the animal (after an almost 40 minute thorough examination for which I was present ) with a lesion on his paw. He wore a cone , stayed off the paw and is recovering on a course of antibiotics. One must obviously follow a very different protocol for allergies versus open wounds and paw infections are serious. Allergies" appears code for "I don't really know what's wrong with your dog. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO FIND A CUT ON A DOGS PAW? Furthermore the "wait in car Covid restriction" was obviously a ploy to avoid onlookers observing abysmal veterinary care. Southglen refuses even now to offer even a partial refund as recompense stating they “stand by their doctors” and "I'm sorry you FEEL that way" while I have consistently referred to facts not feelings. If you want to patronize corporations and help to kill small Winnipeg clinics all while receiving substandard care for your precious pet go to Southglen. If you are a discriminating pet owner GO ELSEWHERE!
Fantastic experience: They were quick. I brought my Pup there for nail trimming last visit. My puppy dog loves going to the Vet.
Fantastic experience: Dr Blankvoort and the staff were kind and gentle with our 17 year old cat Willow (and understanding with my emotional state), in her last moments. We are so grateful and appreciate all you did for her to make her feel safe and comfortable when she passed. We will forever miss our sweet granny kitty, and I am forever grateful to all of you. Monique (& Rick)
Fantastic experience: We bring both of our cats to this vet clinic and they have been nothing but kind, empathetic and honest. After a horrible experience at another vet clinic, this clinic saw our cat right away, kept her for observation, completed some diagnostic tests and actually helped to treat her. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend this clinic to everyone.
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to your wonderful team. I had a terrible decision to make yesterday to put my senior kitty cat to sleep. Mitsar was her name and I had her from the first night when I moved into my first place! She had been through everything with me. I am heart broken. The staff went above and beyond to make her feel as comfortable as possible and were nothing but kind and caring from beginning to end. They even offered free paw prints. I highly suggest Southgeln Vet to everyone. They have so much love for animals and it's clearly shown in everything they do. Thank you for helping me through one of the hardest times of my life yesterday. ❤ ⬛
Fantastic experience: We've had nothing but great experiences here. The staff is skilled, kind, and caring towards both pets and owners. They've helped our dog whiskey for every medical issue shes had so far in her life. The best vet experience I've had in the city! Couldnt recommend them more :)
Negative experience: Had to use this vet as this is where the rescue scheduled my dogs neuter. I also was getting hind dewclaws removed. There pricing was over $100 more for the removal then 2 other quotes I had gotten. When I asked why they simply said that was their price. I decided to proceed anyways for ease of mind for the future. It has been over two weeks and the incisions still aren't healed. 3/5 of the stitches fell out, yet they accused my dog of ripping them out. When the first one fell out one week after surgery I tried to get him in to look at it and they claimed they were too busy and wouldn't be able to get him in for over a week. Very unimpressed with their service - care is for their bottom line - not your pets.
Fantastic experience: I honestly have nothing but good things to say. Since we have gotten our cats around 5 years ago, Southglen vet has been our go to vet. Over the years we have never been dissatisfied with any of the staff or service. Hours are wonderful and treatment plans are always clearly explained. As much as vet trips can be nerve-wracking, we know our cats are in great hands. We will continue to refer our friends and loved ones to this vet and so should you!
Negative experience: I have a dog that’s in his last few months of living due to a heart murmur. I’ve been buying medication for his condition for many months. Recently the medication has stopped helping so we called to find out if we could increase the dosage. We were told that this was not possible and that we had to come in for a quality of life assessment. The earliest date they could give us was nearly 2 weeks out. For two weeks I was convinced that I would have to euthanize my dog and was dreading the meeting. The outcome of the assessment was that they would simply increase his medication, meanwhile for nearly two weeks my dog was coughing up a lung to the point where he would almost pass out. While starting to increase the medication we were told a cough suppressant would be available. I wanted to see if the increase medication would help. It did for a a few days and he was just as bad as before. As a result I called to get the medication they suggested and was told the vet is too busy to sign the prescription and I should wait a week to get the medication. I mentioned that my dog was in pain and they said sorry we’re doing our best. Your best is not to take a couple of minutes to sign a prescription for a dying dog in pain for a week because you’re too busy to take care of a regular customer. Makes me sick.
Fantastic experience: Thank-you to Southglen Veterinary clinic, who was able to book our sweet girl Coco in for emergency surgery. They were literally calling me within 15 minutes, to start the process of helping Coco from her drop off time. Dr. Guinn, Brianna & all of the other staff who helped (even when my own vet wouldn't get her in), thank-you from the bottom of our hearts! Coco is our dear family member - you worked quickly & your expertise is what saved her life. We look forward to seeing you all in the future with Coco & Atlas!
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but great things to say about this place, we were dealing with a tragic scenario with our kitten and they took the best care of her possible. The outcome was not what we wanted, but they made it absolutely clear that our baby was cared for and loved while in their care. We recieved a very nice letter from the team offering their condolences and it was so much appreciated. Would recommend this facility to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I called this Vet hospital after having waited hours over the time that I was told to wait outside the Bridgwater Veterinary hospital. They were able to take in our cat right aways! I appreciate their quick response, helpfulness and care. I would definetly recommend this veterinary hospital.
Fantastic experience: Brought my baby Pyredoodle for severe diarrhea and they were able to see her in right away. Tests are disclosed to you right away as well as an estimate of the price. Treatment plan was sent quickly as well with your choice to either continue or go a different direction if the cost is too much. The test was done fast and we received our results 30minutes later (along with a complete wellness check) and everyone has been so friendly and accommodating to us. Thank you to the amazing staff! Receptionist, vet tech, and doctors! Highly appreciate the fast service during that stressful time for us!
Negative experience: We had an unfortunate overall experience with Southglen. Our rescue young dog was spayed (Feb 25) through the clinic, and is currently on day 20 of being in an elizabethan collar. Part of her spay incision was not healing well, and was noticeable shortly after bringing her home. After almost a week of back and forth e-mails (March 7-12) consisting of photos and one in-person check up, we were told multiple times that the incision looks good and what we were experiencing was normal (swelling, redness, slight discharge) during week 2 of healing. After taking several progress photos (which clearly showed the deterioration) of the incision and consulting with different technicians and vets at Southglen over phone and e-mail, I was now told to put a warm compress twice a day on the incision and to continue to monitor for further deterioration. At this point, I couldn't monitor anymore, as our dog had already surpassed multiple "monitor until it ______" checkpoints. There was dried blood, discharge, and a small open wound. The clinic asked if I wanted to come back for another in person check up. The receptionist told me that since I am seeing a different vet for this appointment, she could not guarantee that I would not be charged for this check up. I tentatively booked the appointment. After so much back and forth between March 7-12, I decided to call and cancel the appointment and take my dog to another clinic. That clinic was surprised to hear that it was 16 days post surgery at that point based on how the wound looked, and prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. After now being on the medication for 3 days, the incision is starting to cover in scar tissue and is no longer an open wound. I regret trusting Southglen with my pet's care, and wish I had gone to another clinic sooner and trusted my intuition. When I called on Saturday, March 13th to cancel my tentative appointment, I informed the receptionist that I was not happy with how my pet's care was handled. The receptionist said that she would leave a message for the clinic manager. It is now March 17th evening, and I have not received a call or e-mail from the clinic to follow up. The clinic staff are kind and I appreciated their kind responses to my e-mails - however, because of the way our dog's incision concerns were treated, I would not bring my dog back to the clinic.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful staff here. Need to pick something up later? They will happily set it aside for you to get this evening. They're open early, stay open late and don't make it a gigantic hassle to get your supplies during lockdown like Henderson animal hospital did for me. They're always super helpful, accommodating, and never seem to lose their sense of humor during these trying times.
Fantastic experience: I had to rush my little yorkie in as she was choking. Her trac had collapsed. Dr. Blankvoort, Breanne, YOU SAVED MY LITTLE GIRLS LIFE! There are no words to express my sincere gratitude to you and your staff. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
Fantastic experience: They were kind enough to take in my dog after being attacked at the nearby dog park; even though we weren't regulars there. However, after our experience with them , we have switched our files!! ALL of the staff were so helpful and genuinely cared about my little guy.
Fantastic experience: Can't stress how good my experiences have been with Southglen. The techs and vets are very compassionate. Would defo recommend.
Fantastic experience: Very Friendly and Professional staff. Always ready to answer the simple and difficult questions. Always make you feel good about the care of your pets.
Fantastic experience: Compassionate friendly caring empathetic helps you deal with your issues and explains things very well even if needs replacing.
Fantastic experience: Service here was incredible. They were all booked up for the evening but made all the effort to sqeeze me and my cat in. They got him all looked after immediately and he's been back to his normal self since. Thanks to everyone!
Fantastic experience: We turned to this vet in an emergency situation when our vet office was closed for both our dog and several of our cats. The extended hours are awesome . Reasonable prices , great vets and techs . Knowledgeable and compassionate. We now take our cats there even though we are across the city. We have had the unfortunate choice to put our dog down and they handled it so well.
Fantastic experience: Amazingly great vets and great staff at this location. Super thrilled to have had them from the beginning of our pet venture . Quality service with tonnes of information being given out and no rushing.
Fantastic experience: Simply AWESOME people!!! Professional and very courteous and caring!!! Ghost could not have had a better experience! Definitely recommend! Not to mention the extremely fair pricing!!!
Positive experience: They have the best hours and all the equipment and technology to diagnose your pet. Just be careful, they always go for the most expensive treatment options and like to do all the tests imaginable. If you are on a budget, let them know what you can afford and they will then work with you. Dr. Guinn and Dr. Litchfield are excellent vets to work with. Knowledgeable and compassionate
Negative experience: Had an appointment for two dogs at 8:00pm. Arrived at 745 and called in to let them know we had arrived. The dogs and I stayed outside in the 30C heat until 9:10pm and the dogs still hadn't gone in. I left after waiting nearly an hour and a half for service.
Negative experience: We left three messages, sent photos of a re-ocurring issue with our dog Rigby. We were promised a return call from the vet twice and never happened.
Negative experience: Called looking for a quote and the lady that answered the phone just kept telling me that she cannot give me that information cause she doesn’t know, then I asked her when would be a better time to call to talk to the person that would know and she said nobody’s knows. That is so unprofessional,if you don’t know when will you cause the way your talking the answer won’t be tomorrow, next week or ever.I have used this vet clinic before and it was totally over priced,I thought I’d call them for a simple quote but and try them again but never again
Fantastic experience: I am new to Winnipeg and Southglen was recommended to me when I found two ticks on my pup. They were so kind and understanding on the phone and promptly got my dog in for an assessment. They were gentle and timely and had great suggestions and education for me as we don’t have ticks in the lower mainland of BC where I’m from. There was no veterinary care provided and we planned a follow up Lyme disease test in 6 weeks. Our visit was free of charge and my anxiety was eased, I will gladly see them with our future needs.
Fantastic experience: Love taking my cat here! All the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, give great recommendations on food etc, wouldn't take my pet anywhere else!
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about the compassion and high standard of care provided at Southglen. The entire team, from front desk staff, to techs, to vets, are all always kind and professional every visit. We have been coming for years, with dogs with a whole range of personalities, and I only have positive things to say about the clinic. I always recommend Southglen to anyone who will
Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend this place whatsoever. I brought my dog here almost every single day for his last 3 weeks of his life and all I felt was that they were up charging me on everything, from visits to medication. Its pretty sad that the veterinarians here are all about the money and not concerned about your pets health. No follow up was done with our big guy, just our pockets were left empty near the end.
Fantastic experience: This is bar none the best experience I've had with a vet. You could truly feel the love for the animals and the compassion the staff have for not only your pet, but for you as well. One of the techs came out and had to deliver bad news that my cat would need a very expensive treatment. With this being the Christmas season I was stunned, but the staff walked me through everything with care and compassion. I would like to state this one more time, these people are truly the salt of the earth and will take care of your pet as if they are your own.
Positive experience: Always able to get us in so quickly. Very friendly staff. Sometimes just don't understand the extra tests they want when they don't end up changing the treatment plan for my pet
Fantastic experience: Excellent service! Kind and courteous on the phone and in person. Seemed to really care what happened with my kitty! Upfront about cost; fair pricing and great hours! Would highly recommend! Genuine and compassionate!
