Expérience négative: Me and my Family have been bringing all of our animals here for nearly 20 years. Our oldest dog needs to see a vet asap and they turned us away completely simply because the dog in question simply has not been to the vet in 5 years and they (purged their records). Absolutely ridiculous response. We need to see a vet asap as our dog seems to be having kidney failure and they turned away a long time client. Disgusting. Thanks for nothing.

We ask new clients to create their profiles online so they can securely enter their own information, review our policies, and give us an opportunity to have any documents or files transferred digitally before the first visit. This helps us be fully prepared for your pet’s appointment. We understand that not everyone has access to a computer or is comfortable inputting their information digitally, and we are always happy to enter it manually if needed. We’ve found that when we welcome new clients without this step, important documents or medical histories can sometimes be missed, which can limit the effectiveness of the appointment. Expérience fantastique: Honestly! We were lucky to have found this hospital for our Jasper so close to our home. Every single one of the staff members is super nice and friendly. Jasper is a naughty one and had to go to hospital quite a few times now. And they take such a good care of him. Not just during the appointment, but if you have any questions after, you call them, and they would let you know right away. The hospital is always clean and super welcoming.

Expérience fantastique: I stumbled upon Greenbank Animal Hospital in a frantic looking for a close by hospital that was privately owned. Unfortunately, my circumstance was a situation that every pet owner dreads. However, Dr Deelen, and all of the vet techs at this clinic were extremely compassionate. I had shown up with my frail senior dog and I was already a hot mess, from all the crying at home and puffy eyes. Dr Deelen eased the conversation of letting my boy go. I broke down in the room of course, but in no way did I feel rushed or like I had to make a rash decision. She was very gentle assessing him, and when taking his last X Rays of his life, despite the condition he was at, she took her time to explain each thing she saw and noticed and he ultimately had congestive heart failure and unfortunately it was really too late for anything to work. She was absolutely an angel and despite me being more than willing to pay anything to give my boy one last run, Dr Deelen was extremely transparent with pricing and cost and what other alternatives I could take. Which I truly appreciate. Because I didn’t have any of his belongings, I asked if I could take him home with a weeks worth of heart medication to provide him comfort at least. However, 4 hours stepping out of the clinic, my boy passed at home right next to me. I unfortunately live through this guilt and in hindsight 20/20, I should have taken Dr Deelen’s suggestion of easing his suffering while I was there. She also followed up with alternatives if something were to happen over the weekend, and that alternative worked out for me, even though I had made plans to return the following Monday. I was also referred to this sister clinic as the one in Manotick was fully booked. And I highly recommend either this clinic or their manotick location. To the whole clinic: Thank you SO much for looking after my Thor and I. Despite Thor being a single “in-n-out” patient, you’ve all shown him the best care on his last day as if we’ve been long time clients, and I couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative that everyone was so understanding and supportive of my decision. Thank you so much for sending us a sympathy card - it brought me down to tears, but it warmed my heart so much that I received this beautiful gift through the toughest moment of my life. Thank you so much for everything. If I ever get a pet in the future, I’ll be sure to come back ❤️

Expérience fantastique: Had to take a friend's sick cat in an emergency, and the staff couldn't have been more amazing! Even though the outcome was unpleasant the staff were all very helpful and compassionate. They made a difficult decision as good as it could be. Thank you to every one there for what you do.
Expérience fantastique: I had a great visit with Dr Lucie this month. My dogs teeth were horrible, he hasn’t had any dental work done in his 11 years. Dr Lucie was very thorough and I mean VERY thorough. She examined and explained pros/cons/risks/benefits with my dogs teeth/dental health. I was aware of cost and understood his oral health effects his over all health. Dr Lucie was very confident with the procedure and I had soo much trust in her. Overall , his dental procedure went well and he’s on the road to recovery. He’s back to his happy self and acting like he’s a 5 year old puppy again. I can’t thank you enough Dr Lucie!

Expérience négative: Found a tick on My dog and panicked as I could not find our tick key. Called up our regular vet (Greenvank Animal Hospital) , who promptly told me I need an appointment (1.5hrs time) or I could come get a key and do it myself. Arrived at the clinic 5 mins later, no pets in the waiting room, clinic rooms or coming in the door. The 3 vet techs and receptionist said they could not/would nothelp me, gave me a tick key pointed me to a bathroom and told me to follow instructions. I was told to flush it when done, that nobody does testing on ticks anymore. I phoned another clinic, told them I was a patient at another clinic and asked for information. Was told that I should get my dog tested after 6 weeks to be sure Lyme and no other diseases were present, as proteins would be present at that time. I am completely furious at the lack of service, compassion and out right not caring about my pet. I am searching for a new vet so taking suggestions however Greenbank animal hospital will NOT be getting anymore of my business as they OBVIOUSLY do not care about the health of their patients!!!

When you called, we were able to offer an appointment with our technicians later that morning. Our technicians are highly experienced in tick removal and trained to guide clients through the next steps based on several factors such as the type of tick and whether your pet is on preventative medication. We understood that you preferred the option to remove the tick at home with one of our complimentary tick removal kits.
When you arrived in-clinic, our technicians were unavailable at that time, and unfortunately, our front desk staff are not authorized to provide medical care to your pet. Since you appeared uncertain about at-home removal, our team provided further instructions and confirmed that you were welcome to remove the tick in our washroom, as per your request.
Regarding tick testing, we were previously able to submit ticks for testing through a Government program that has since ended. Given the high prevalence of ticks in our area, it is not always feasible to perform blood tests after each tick bite. However, we always assess the need for testing based on your pet's prevention measures and individual case.
We apologize if our communication left you feeling unsupported. Your pet’s health and well-being are always our top priority.

Expérience négative: I brought my cat in because she had stopped eating and seemed to be struggling to breathe. The vet assured me her breathing was fine and healthy, stating that her lack of appetite was a result of stress from a heart murmur. However, it was clear she was having difficulty breathing. I shared a video with the others and later with the emergency animal hospital (where she had to be admitted 2 weeks later as she got worse), where they all agreed her breathing appeared abnormal. Tragically, she passed away two and a half weeks after that initial visit, just a day before her 10th birthday. If I had known about her condition sooner, it might have saved her life. I genuinely believe the vet's negligence contributed to her death.

Expérience fantastique: I have many dogs and have needed care for all of them and have been to many veterinary clinics in and around Ottawa. Greenbank Animal Hospital and the sister clinic in Manotick are by far the best clinics I have ever taken my dogs to. Staff are friendly and professional and the Veterinary Doctors, especially Dr Shibata, are very good and care soo much about all our pets. I highly recommend this place and believe they are also one of the few places in Ottawa that are not corporately owned. (Side note: avoid VCA corporate clinics if you don't want you and your pet to be treated like a number)

Expérience positive: Went with my friend for her cats to have a pre-travel checkup, now instead of paying at the front desk, checkout takes place in the exam room making it much better for reactive dogs that don't doo well with waiting around other dogs.

Expérience négative: Called to see if they take on new clients and if they have available apt for upcoming Monday, and I am told” I Don’t know, it depends on what it’s for “ .. .. “ So you Don’t KNOW if you have availability on Monday?” .. she goes” oh yes we do for our clients!” .. so I go “ But you Don’t Know if you take on new clients?” .. “ Well we do, but it just depends on what it’s for “ .. So Basicaly you are “ picking and choosing” your clients? That seems highly Unethical to me no!!?” To pick and choose? So then To tell them I operate a Rescue and have an urgent need for one of my Adopters” .. so she goes “ Oh that would be a DEFINITE No!” .. I was kind of shocked by the abraisiveness I made he repeat to make sure I had heard correctly… But she then goes on to repeat the exact same thing! “ that’s a definite No! If we take on clients it’s for Long term ( How can u guarantee that a dog is gonna live long term though? But that’s another story in itself, “ I proceed to explain to her that my client Is Actualy Looking for a Vet though “ .. “ “Oh well then she’ll have to go online and Fill out a form” So they just Assume that everyone has access to the internet, Knows “how” to work it, what if someone has medical disabilities that prevent them from beeing able to type or something? Not very inclusive, and Not Very Helpful either! It’s Baffling to me that this is the kind of Service “ or Lack of it@ that people PAY for these days!!! Mind Blowing !!!

We wanted to clarify a few points regarding our new client patient intake as we believe there may have been some miscommunication. We currently see enrolled clients and patients by appointment only. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to accommodate walk-ins or emergency appointments for non-clients. For this reason, we were unable to accommodate your request for an appointment. We are currently accepting new clients, however, due the limited space in our client roster, we are prioritizing accepting patients who do not currently have a regular clinic they attend, this is to ensure they receive access to care. When you explained that your client did not have a regular vet, we offered to send them our information form to begin to look into creating a file. This is a digital form, however, we do have the option to enter this information manually on our end by phone should anyone require it. We do hope that the pet was able to receive urgent care at one of the emergency clinics and wish you all the best.

Expérience fantastique: Because of bad experiences with a different vet for a different pet, I'm wary of vets in general. However, this hospital is on its way to restoring my faith. They seem to care about my dog's well-being. I stop in just to have him weighed fairly frequently and they welcome it, update his records, etc. with no appointment or additional charge.
Expérience négative: So misleading and deceitful…called for a price on Bordetella and DPP. Was quoted $45 for each. Ask, is that’s the full price and was told yes. Get to the vets and they advise they won’t vaccinate the dog unless they do a full exam. Attempted to discuss they didn’t mention this when calling for a quote nor was the exam fee quoted. Was told if not happy go elsewhere. Well guess what, we are going elsewhere. The whole purpose of a quote is so you know exactly what the price will be. Deceitful, misleading and infuriating when you call them out on it and they tell you to go elsewhere! BE PREPARED FOR HIDDEN COSTS THEY DONT TELL YOU ABOUT!!!!

Expérience négative: I used to love this place, but it's becoming clear they are more about making a buck than anything. We have an elderly dog who was evaluated 6 months ago, we received a prescription which cleared up her issues(Skin and Ears), those same issues have started up again. They refused my request for a refill on the prescription, and want to evaluate the animal again (It's their "Policy"). I just want to comfort my dog in whatever time she has left, they want to get as much money out of me during that period.
Expérience fantastique: We are new to the area and they fit us in to update our cats vaccines as soon as possible. Support staff were lovely and Dr. Deelen handled our cat in a fear free manner during the exam which is greatly appreciated.
Expérience négative: 1 star does not even cut the terrible service I received at Greenbank Animal Hospital! Had an appointment at 4 pm - gave myself 1.25 hours to pick up my kitty and head there. Arrived 15 minutes late due to heavy traffic coming from East end to Barrhaven and they turned me away. Now if this was a routine check-up I probably wouldn’t have been so mad, but my cat hadn’t been seen for 5 years because she’s healthy. This time it was for a lump/growth that she has developed! I drove an hour in the car with an already stressed out cat, then a stressed out mom because I was going to be late, then waited 5 minutes in the line to be greeted only to be told - you’re late (and I did call them to tell them the traffic was backed up horribly)!!!!! The vet wouldn’t t even come out for a few minutes to chat with me. Coward!! No other clinics around could take us. Wasted 2.5 hours of my time, gas and stressing. Thank God for Bytown helping me calm down and help make me feel better, nowTHEY have a new client.

We are sorry to hear about the stress and frustration yesterday’s experienced caused you and your pet. Thank you for calling ahead to let us know you would be running late; we understand this happens as we sometimes run late as well. At that time, we informed you that we would be able to see you up to 10 minutes into the appointment time. Unfortunately, circumstances delayed you 20 minutes into the appointment time. As our appointment times are 30 minutes long, we are unable to provide comprehensive care and service in less than half of the appointment time. As our schedule was fully booked for the evening, we were unable to fit you into another time slot but did offer to reschedule your appointment on a different day. We are glad to hear you were able to be seen and wish you and your pets all the best.

Expérience négative: I just moved to Ottawa I went in because my dog was showing signs of a uti. I asked them to test the urine and I was hoping to switch to them as my vet. Even with my dog in destress they said no to helping us and said you have to go to website to apply to be seen. This is awful what would they do if they had a uti and the hospital said sorry go to website and fill out paperwork first before being seen. Do not take your pets there

We are accepting new clients as space becomes available in our roster. At this point in time, we cannot guarantee space or an appointment upon walk-in. Dr. Miki Shibata advised us that it was suffering and few options sadly available. She advised us that any decision rested with us. We made the right one. Dr. Shibata treated us with the utmost care and professionalism. In addition, she was kind enough to mail our family a touching note of sympathy at our loss. NEVER bring your pets here, find somewhere else because when it comes down to it, they won't help an animal in need because they are "fully booked"

Expérience négative: Will prefer no one to go to them. I called them regarding an appointment for the blood work of my pet dog insurance. I was not sure which type of bloodwork is required and told them that I will consult with the insurance company and book an appointment. Later I realized that no bloodwork was needed so I did not booked the appointment. Next day, I got the email from hospital that there will be $50 charge for late cancellation of appointment. Wonder if I never confirmed for the appointment then why they wanted to charge $50. Really makes no sense. Would not recommend to anyone.

Expérience fantastique: I had to take my chihuahua Chloe in today, July 25, 2022, for assessment due to what I thought was a stomache issue of bloating. Dr. Caroline Heffernan DV examined her and talked me through the diagnostics with such care and gentleness. It turns out Chloe had back pain and was distending her belly to compensate for the pain. We are asking our clients for their patience and understanding as we onboard a few new staff members, however, we understand your frustration with regards to budgeting for a procedure. If we have not seen a pet recently for an annual exam or check up, it can be difficult for the doctor to provide an accurate range of the cost of a procedure depending on the current health condition of your pet. Multiple procedures, number of staff required to assist, time in the operating room and medication costs can vary greatly depending on the specific situation. It sounds as though your pet is currently due for an exam and vaccines and the best way to obtain an accurate quote would be to have it created at the same time while the pet is in person with the doctor. This also provides the opportunity to assess and treat any present symptoms until the procedure can be booked. Expérience négative: I wouldn't even rate this place a 1 star. If you have a sick animal, you're guaranteed to get all the prescriptions under the sun. But conducting an x-ray to determine the cause of illness wasn't even a thought that came to mind for old lady Willis. We pay outrageous amounts of money to get expert advice from Vets to ensure the safety of our animals. How do you explain to your clients that you guesstimate what the animal needs in medications, costing thousands of dollars but in the end you killed our dog when a simply x-ray would have saved her?

Not knowing specifically, the details of your file, we can say that in general, the first option to explore when dealing with certain medical issue is to treat with medication. Based on the response and/or continued symptoms, further diagnostics by way of blood work, ultrasounds, x-ray etc. may be required depending on the case. We sadly had to put our littlest fur baby to rest last night, it was a peaceful experience, and we came to this decision in confidence, after doing our best to treat our little Peanut. With love and compassion, she was loved and coddled to the back room, and returned to us a couple minutes later for burial at home. Thank you for taking care of her in her last moments.

Expérience négative: Very disappointed in the communication about costs of visits. Recently our cat was diagnosed as being diabetic. When booking our appointment, we asked about what costs may be expected. We were told only that there would be a consult fee, (approx. $100) no other mention of costs. We obviously knew there would be more costs. Couple tests, needles and insulin, a small bag of dry food and a half dozen cans. $680.00 invoice!!!! LET YOUR CLIENTS KNOW WHEN COSTS ARE GOING TO BE SO HIGH!!! We budgeted for more than what was mentioned, but, come on people. I won't even mention the cost of the initial examination. Be thorough when asking about appointments and costs!

Expérience fantastique: I’ve been with this group of people for years for two cats and now my dog. I’ve worked with Dr. Lucy, Dr. Jones, Dr. Sinclair and others who have since left. Every single one will do everything they can to make sure your pet is cared for. Since covid I have seen poor ratings blaming the vets for not taking their pets or sending them off too an emergency hospital if the patient is stable. This is normal currently due to vets throughout the city being overextended while having an increase in cases so of course they triage and can’t take on more if they’re caseload is full. If your pet is stable during an emergency they often send you to the emergency hospital, if your pet is okay but not great they will try to monitor. They’re not money hungry, they’re caring for our pets and doing a fabulous job at it. Every location will have its downfalls as we are all human (minus the animals lol). Some mistakes will be more frustrating than others. The people at this office have always been on my pet’s side, advocate for their health and provide me the best options for their continued care. Dr didnt even bother to come out and look at the animal for 1 sec, they told me through receptionist to go to another facility, such as Altavista hospital, 30-40 min drive. They will probably say they don't do emergencies. Correct. But what if it was an anaphilactic attack for example with respiratory distress? Where is your ethics? Completely shocked and dissapointed.

You are correct that we do not offer emergency services, however, should a patient be experiencing distress, including difficulty breathing, we do our best to stabilize the patient until they can be transferred to and emergency facility where they can receive the specialized care and monitoring required. Minor emergencies are referred to emergency clinics should we not have the resources available to provide immediate treatment. We recently had to put down our almost ten year old dog after a month of extensive tests and medications to try to find the cause of his symptoms. Dr. Petroff and the rest of the staff at Greenbank Animal Hospital were absolute rockstars through this difficult time, and offered us nothing but the upmost professionalism and compassion. I will continue to recommend this animal hospital to anyone who has pets.

Expérience négative: My cat has suddenly passed away, my girlfriend called me in the morning and I rushed home to stay with him for his last couple hours because it was apparent he had gotten suddenly very ill. His heartbeat was slow and his breathing was soft. After he passed away I phoned this Veterinary about making some paw prints to remember him by which I will not be doing now or ever visiting your vet in the future, your office staff said their was a place that could do it and mentioned crematorium. I specified he will not be cremated at a random place, he is coming home where he belongs to rest. I find it extremely inappropriate and beyond disgusting for your staff to even ask me then proceed to advise me it is against the "law" to bury MY cat in MY backyard. Regardless of what it may be, your staff needs a serious lesson in HUMANITY. Never in my life have I ever had someone tell me what I'm supposed to do with a family pet and to the woman who advised me of this, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

After confirming with the City of Ottawa bylaws, we were informed that residents are permitted to bury pets in their backyards following certain parameters. Expérience fantastique: I've religiously brought every animal I've ever had to this clinic after negative experiences with other clinics. (I don't live in Barrhaven so it is a drive for me) But I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm a lifer with this clinic. When it came time for us to say goodbye to two of our dogs and let them cross Rainbow Bridge staff were unbelievably supportive BOTH times in Winter of 2018 and Winter 2019. Some even cried with us. This clinic is WAY more than a vet clinic, it is a community of dedicated animal lovers who view each animal that walks in the door as their own. When we brought our Bobo for a teeth cleaning Summer 2020 they quoted us a range versus a set price (pending what they saw on xrays) when we received the bill, the bill was at the lowest end of the range... again a clinic that is not about money but patient care. They knew we would have paid the higher range for our dog's health (because we told them we would) but remained honest and only charged what was required. Bobo also came back to us smelling like he spent the whole afternoon being snuggled by staff which was true (so comforting knowing he was being given so much love while he recovered and not alone in a cage the entire day). Today, Winter 2021, I called because our cat Dolly is very constipated, they didn't mess around, and booked us same day and even gave tips on how to make her travel more comfortable since she is a timid girl. Wow! Greenbank animal hospital you never cease to amaze me with your quality and care. Always going above and beyond. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping my babies healthy and happy and ALWAYS being there when we need you ❤
