I was able to call the social worker at anytime and she was the most supportive human I have ever met. The staff has always been friendly and comprehensive. I have never met an hospital with that quality, that much expertise on EVERYTHING. I will always go there for the rest of my life

Expérience fantastique: I cannot thank Capital City enough for all of the care and love they’ve shown my girl over the last 2.5 years. My dog had massive surgery in November of 2023 at the age of 14 and Dr. Larose and his staff did a wonderful job, even with any post op questions I had. I truly believe they gave me 2.5 more years with her and I will always be grateful for that. When it was time to say goodbye this past February, every staff member we met was so considerate and genuinely shared in our devastation. They even apologized for my loss once again when I picked up my dog’s ashes. I would recommend this team for anything! They are simply the best. ❤️

Expérience négative: Money, money, money. Took my wee +16 year old dog in. They wanted to undertake $10k-$12k in tests. Not much compassion, in a cold clinical environment. Rather than focus on end of life care, the vet was completely focused on expensive tests, tests, tests and in turn suggesting horrible invasive possible treatments. Not the way I would want to go, nor the way my dog should go. Brought a vet to my home a few days later and what a different experience! Relaxing for both pet and owner, intimate - vet plays on the floor with the dog while checking him over...He is now doing just fine at a cost of even less than the one apppointment at Capital City.

Expérience négative: The vets and staff were kind. The bill was outrageous and everything added on that wasn't agreed upon. My cat was brought to us to be put down and was dirty. For over $1700 you think they could have had her clean for her last moments of life. When putting our young cat down in the euthanasia room, we could hear very loud laughing and shouting from the break room close by. It made an already awful experience even worse. For such a spacious facility I'm surprised they wouldn't have a quieter space for grieving owners. Would not return or recommend.

Expérience négative: After bringing my little dog to ER Feb 12 for a clogged nose hoping they would push up my appt in March for a Ct Scan, instead the Veterenerian Dr Tsao and her staff tragically ended my fur baby’s life by pumping so much medication in a span of an hour and a half that this tiny 8lbs dog’s colapsed and passed away on his birthday of all days. Beware of bringing your dog to this veterenerian hospital.

Expérience fantastique: What an incredible team! We had to take our cats in for some bladder issue she was having. Dr. O'Brien, Kiyara, and the other nurses that helped us were so patient and kind! We had so many questions and didnt feel rushed or pressure into exams that would have cost a ton! The baseline is $320 after tax and then extra for any tests or diagnoses made. We don't live close but would definitely go back to this location after such a great experience. They accept walkin without having to call in advance, the blood and urine tests were all done at the clinic and is quite a bit of wait to get the results. We received the report and it gets automatically sent to your regular vet as well. They gave us a decent amount of samples since wr have to change the wet and Dry food for our cat. A big thanks to the team!

Expérience fantastique: I didn’t really want to spend my Friday night at an emergency vet, but my dog had other plans. We brought our Bernese to them Friday evening with a suspected case of bloat. They took him right away. Dr O’Carroll is a fantastic doctor and made me feel at ease right away. We spent 3 hours there while our dog got X-rays and medication but were kept in the loop the entire time. Ultimately, it was a wasted visit as he wasn’t bloating (yay!!) and we were sent home and given thorough instructions for follow up care and medications. The receptionist (Grace) was extremely kind and answered my questions regarding medication. I was told my boy was so sweet and even gave him a nickname. Honestly we are so lucky to have this place and I felt like we were in good hands the entire time.

Expérience fantastique: We brought Sunny in due to difficulty breathing. We were seen quickly as an emergency and the Dr. did a very in depth consultation and educated us on potential reasons for the breathing issues. We were referred to a surgeon to discuss next steps, we got an appointment the very next day. At our consultation with Dr. Larose we were given our options and he spent so much time explaining the procedure, possible risks and what to expect. We felt so confident leaving that appointment that Sunny was going to be in the best hands. We scheduled the surgery date for less than a week later. The surgery was a success but Sunny had some complications and needed some additional treatment and a longer than anticipated stay at the hospital. Thankfully Dr. Larose had warned us about the possibility of this exact complication so we were not blindsided by it. This was a very stressful situation for us but Dr. Larose communicated with us frequently always keeping us updated and reassured. During her stay we would get calls from staff often, providing updates and sharing cute stories about Sunny. When I was worried and felt the need to call at all hours of the day and night they were always happy to talk to me and never made me feel like a burden. Sunny came home and after 2 weeks of recovery I can truly say she is breathing better than ever. She is like a puppy again. She has so much energy and her breathing is so much more peaceful. Thank you to all the staff at Capital City. From the front desk, to the ICU and especially Dr. Larose.

Expérience négative: DO NOT take your pet to this place. I had the absolute worst experience dealing with these people. They are money suckers and they never have a level of understanding or compromise in retaining their clients. 0 client-centric practice!

Expérience fantastique: We had a very pleasant experience with Dr Thatcher who did dental work on our senior cat with diabetes and other health issues. We were anxious about the surgery but he made us feel at ease, didn’t push for any unnecessary procedures and the whole thing went smoothly, faster and cheaper than expected.

Expérience fantastique: My dog, Tony, and I are extremely grateful for the professionals at this clinic. We’ve been seeing Dr Whipp consistently for the last 5 years and he’s (+ team) gone above and beyond for us. They’re always thorough in their reporting and promptly take the time to review my emails and questions when they come up. It’s clear that he stays current with new research, studies, clinical trials, etc. Recently, Tony had to go to a different emergency clinic, where the doctor unexpectedly spotted a new development with his heart. In that moment there’s nothing I wanted more than to have it looked at by the specialist that knows Tony’s heart and history best, though that felt impossible. Thankfully, the vet was able to call Dr Whipp and he guided her and I, despite being very busy. Everyone has always been kind and compassionate with us. I can tell they really care about helping people and their pets. Thank you!

Expérience fantastique: We brought our 10-month-old husky, to Capital City Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital in early January 2026 for an emergency consult after she began walking into walls and furniture and stopped acting like herself. It was a very stressful situation, and from the moment we arrived, the team was calm, welcoming, and compassionate. They took excellent care of our sweet girl while also taking the time to listen to us and put us at ease. We had a subsequent appointment with the ophthalmology specialist, Dr. Feigel, who was exceptional. She explained the diagnosis and next steps clearly, presented several options without any pressure, and made sure we understood the pros and cons of each. We also received a detailed written report afterward, which was extremely helpful. Her team took the time to explain all medications and what to monitor for. The facility is clean, bright, and calming, and costs were in line with what we expected for emergency and specialist care. We will absolutely continue to go there for follow-ups and ongoing care, and would not hesitate to trust them again if another emergency arises. Our sweet girl is back to enjoying her toys now!

Expérience négative: If I could rate this clinic 0 stars for their administrative team, I would. My interaction with Anabelle was marked by disrespect, hostility, and a complete lack of professionalism toward both me and my partner. I called the clinic simply to ask about a possible reschedule and explicitly stated that if it wasn’t possible, that was completely fine. Without telling us, without sending any confirmation, and without any follow-up email, she cancelled my cat’s appointment entirely. To make matters worse, we were sent an intake form, which we completed the night before, leading us to reasonably believe the appointment was still confirmed. On the day of the appointment, my cat was heavily sedated, my partner took a full day off work, and drove 30 minutes to the clinic, only to be told upon arrival that I had cancelled and that there was nothing they could do. When my partner handed the phone to Anabelle so I could speak with her directly, she yelled at me, spoke over me repeatedly, and stated she “would not budge,” that she “could argue all day,” and that she “did not care” what we did. She claimed the appointment was cancelled solely because of my phone call and that verbal confirmation was sufficient. She refused to engage in a respectful conversation and would not allow me to finish a sentence. This situation put my animal at risk due to unnecessary sedation, cost my partner a day of work, and wasted our time and money, all because of an administrative decision handled with zero communication and alarming aggression. The only reason I will be returning is because the doctors themselves are highly recommended, and my cat deserves excellent medical care. That said, pet owners deserve to be treated with respect as well. The quality of care should not stop at the exam room door. I strongly recommend this staff member receive proper customer service and communication training before interacting with clients again. No one should be treated this way, especially when animals’ safety and people’s livelihoods are involved.

Expérience fantastique: I’ve visited Capital City Vet Emergency Hospital multiple times over the years, and after two visits last week with my Labrador Bridget, I felt compelled to write a well-deserved review. This is not my first experience with this hospital. Last April, my dog Max was treated by Dr. Chapman and Dr. Larose when they attempted to remove a liver mass. During surgery, they recognized the risk of him not surviving on the table and made the compassionate decision to stop the procedure. Because of that decision, I was given two and a half more months with my best friend — time I will always be grateful for. I’ve been to nearly every major veterinary facility in Ontario, from Guelph to MOVEH to Capital City, and I can confidently say the level of professionalism and empathy here stands out. More recently, Dr. Merchins performed PRP treatment and elbow dysplasia surgery on Bridget. When she began having concerning episodes — acting out of character, shaking, panting — I brought her back. Dr. Merchins conducted an exam and noted a possible back issue. Unfortunately, the episodes continued once we were home, prompting further concern. I want to take a moment to specifically recognize the front desk staff. They are often the first point of contact during incredibly stressful moments, and how they communicate and advocate for patients truly matters. On Friday, I reached out while they were very busy, and although it took time, they did their best to respond. On Saturday, Kaylen went above and beyond. Her care, attention, and follow-through made an enormous difference. Because of that communication, Dr. Aaron Ilacqua took the time to speak with me directly. I brought Bridget back in, where he reevaluated her thoroughly and ultimately sent us home with strict bed rest and medication. Veterinary care is expensive — trust me, I understand that reality — and Dr. Ilacqua made a thoughtful, compassionate decision to exhaust conservative treatment options before moving forward with a CT scan. I am deeply grateful for that approach. Dr. Ilacqua demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and genuine care — not just for Bridget, but for me as well. That level of compassion is what every veterinarian should strive to embody. I would also like to acknowledge Dr. Jef Biscup, who performed Bridget’s TPLO surgery in 2023, along with his assistant Mel. Their work was exceptional. Across every interaction, the doctors and staff at Capital City Vet Emergency Hospital have consistently demonstrated kindness, empathy, and true love for animals. When you are facing fear and uncertainty with a pet you love like family, that makes all the difference in the world. Thank you to the entire team for the care you’ve shown my dogs and me.

Expérience fantastique: Back in September, our 3 year old cat Dahlia had quite the health scare. She needed to have a SUB implanted, which is a very specialized surgery. We were recommended Cap City Vet. They have been nothing short of amazing with us. Patient, informative, caring, and efficient. They saved Dahlia’s life and have been in great communication with us since. Any concerns were answered promptly and articulated in a way that we understood, thus allowing us to do any at home care with ease. Just today, Dahlia was diagnosed with a UTI, something cats with SUBs are prone too. Again, they were amazing despite the huge caseload they had ongoing. We cannot thank the team enough - especially Dr. Larose for performing the surgery and Dr. Schwartz for guiding us through her ongoing aftercare procedures. I’d recommend Cap City Vet any day of the week.

Expérience fantastique: This hospital provided excellent services all year for me. Starting with the surgical team, Dr Biskup performed a miracle on my cat doing a complicated procedure to remove a tumor that burst in his intestines and cleaning his abdomen due to sepsis. Then the oncology team of Dr Gower and Audrey took care of us all year. They gave me 11 months with my angel that I otherwise would have spent grieving. They treated him with love and Audrey went above and beyond to make the difficult process a bit calmer. While the services are costly, they're top notch and the oncology team were always trying to find ways to save me money (e.g. avoiding procedures unless absolute necessary). Dr Gower handles difficult conversations with compassion and acted as a friend. They always made time for me, and they always smothered my dear Pageau in love. The front staff were also very kind and were quick to fix any issues that ever came up. Definitely recommend bringing your pet here if needed.

Expérience négative: My family had to put our dog to sleep a few months ago and I cannot shake how horrible the experience was in comparison to vets I've dealt with out of country. I can't comprehend a practice who will shove payment in your face before even putting your dog to sleep, alongside other issues with reception.

Expérience fantastique: Our cat Kaya was referred to this hospital by our primary clinic on September 3 due to sudden respiratory distress. During her first visit, she stayed in the oxygen chamber for two days and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. After her condition stabilized, the veterinarian prescribed diuretics and scheduled a follow-up cardiac ultrasound in November. Unfortunately, about two weeks later, we noticed Kaya’s breathing became difficult again. We rushed her to the hospital late at night, where the medical team responded quickly and kindly. Kaya was admitted to emergency care and placed back in the oxygen chamber, with adjustments made to her medication dosage. On October 3, during her third emergency visit, Kaya passed away. I would like to sincerely acknowledge that all of the veterinarians and medical staff we encountered were professional, compassionate, and efficient. Each emergency visit involved different doctors, and every one of them provided attentive and respectful care. Based on the medical treatment alone, I would absolutely recommend this hospital to pet owners seeking emergency or specialty care. However, I would like to share one concern regarding the front desk experience during our final visit. While the front desk staff were courteous and helpful during our previous visits—properly discussing insurance and billing at the front desk—this time felt different. While we were still in the process of saying goodbye to Kaya, we were repeatedly approached in the room for payment. The staff member did not provide any bill, did not ask about insurance, and requested payment using an incorrect amount, which was confusing and distressing given the circumstances. When I went to the front desk to clarify and complete the payment, the atmosphere felt lighthearted, with staff chatting and laughing. I understand that our personal loss may not affect others in the same way, but being asked for payment repeatedly during such a sensitive moment was uncomfortable. Despite this, I want to reiterate that the medical team was excellent, and we truly appreciate the care Kaya received. Lastly, thank you to the hospital for the condolence postcard—we genuinely appreciated that thoughtful gesture.

Expérience négative: You prey on people when they are at their weakest... Never have I been so disgusted by a business. My 87 year old mother brought her dog to you on a Sunday afternoon after he ate something that was making him I'll. You told her it was very likely his bowel would rupture, and that you should operate right away. And then proceeded to tell her it would be $13000 for a surgery would probably take 2-3 hours. Last time I checked vets don't earn $5000 per hour. Businesses like yours are the definition of taking advantage of vulnerable people. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Expérience fantastique: I had posted a review of CC prior but I've had more experiences since and wanted to write a refresher. My kitty Bubbles had suddenly stopped eating in February of 2025. I spent 11 days syringe feeding him at home while doing all sorts of tests, xrays, ultrasounds etc and I was getting constant conflicting information about what may be going on with him. We'd sent his results off to imaging specialists and been told all sorts of things that didn't make sense. We suspected a kidney infection and finally after days of waiting it came back that no, he didn't have a kidney infection and my vet suggested heading up to CC. I arrived mid morning and was triaged and saw the emergency vet right away. They admitted him for an ultrasound and within hours I had a call from Dr Schwartz with a diagnosis. She found his kidney was enlarged likely due to a partially blocked ureter. I'd spent over $3000 at my usual vet and had received less information than I did in the few hours Bubbles had been at CC. Dr Schwartz kept in touch with me multiple times a day and answered any question I had. After 4 days of him being on fluids and medications his blockage moved on and he was able to come home. Still on him coming home he struggled to eat. We went back to Capital City and Dr Schwartz came up with a cocktail of medications that did the trick. Fast forward to November and he suddenly stopped eating again. I went back up on a busy Tuesday and Dr Schwartz fit us in and like before got us a diagnosis right away. This time it was a blockage in his other ureter. We got him on fluids and with no changes and him being prone to these blockages we decided to proceed with a urinary bypass surgery (SUB). I had done a ton of research on this surgery and had seen many really difficult recoveries. Most of these kitties were in much rougher shape than Bubbles but it still seemed like a very dauting procedure. Still I had a long conversation with Dr Schwartz and trust her expert opinion fully so we proceeded. Dr. Larose was the surgeon that did the urinary bypass on Bubbles. I was given multiple updates from him as the day went on and we had an extremely successful surgery. I'm not sure it could've went any better. Bubbles was back to eating right away and was able to come home within 24 hours. His incision was near gone within days, it was incredible. The quality of care I've received at Capital City is worldclass. The facility is spotless and I've always been seen quickly. I give Dr. Schwartz credit for saving my boy twice. While vetcare is expensive I've found CC is reasonable in ways that only a locally owned practice can be.

Expérience négative: They refused to write us a food prescription for our pet that they treated because we found it cheaper elsewhere. Endangering his life they just saved, to try to force us to buy from them. In the amount of time it took to send us the rejection excuse they could have just written the prescription. Greedy & corrupt. Does not care about animal lives at all. Only about leeching money from desperate, loving people.

Expérience négative: Greedy veterinary cartel threatened to report us for animal cruelty if we didn’t pay their outrageous extortion price and then wouldn’t write us a prescription for urinary SO food in order to force us to pay $30 more for the same cat food available at petsmart. Evil practice. They also didn’t give our cat enough slack when his catheter was in and caused him unneeded pain. Avoid this hellhole at all cost.

Expérience fantastique: My cat was referred to Capital City Specialty & Emergency clinic to repair a left stifle injury. Dr. Mehrkens was amazing and so kind. She thoroughly explained the injury, repair, and prognosis and answered my questions and concerns before surgery and during my cat's recovery period. My cat's surgery went perfectly and she is doing great. All of the staff I dealt with were wonderful. I highly recommend Capital City Specialty & Emergency clinic.

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful staff. Our 3 cats are patients at Capital City. Dr Lowe and Dr Chapman are experts in their field and stop at nothing to ensure our cats wellness issues are addressed. The Vet Technicians are so knowledgeable and experienced. Chandra (Vet Tech) goes above and beyond, both with the care she provides outside the hospital, as well as within it. She came to our home numerous times to provide post-treatment care & guidance after our cat was seen for an anal abscess. Her service truly rounded out our veterinary treatment journey & her presence gave us the calm we desperately needed during our cats' rough recovery. She is a true asset to the Cap City team.

Expérience fantastique: Dr Phillip Wu, we had to meet you for the first time during the saddest of times, having to say goodbye to our beloved golden retriever - Hudson. I will never forget your compassion not only with Hudson but with our family as well. We’ve had to say goodbye to 4 goldens and it is never easy, but you really touched our hearts as we FaceTimed with our daughter in the UK and you made sure she was involved by focusing the phone on Hudson when I lost focus. We will all be forever grateful for your compassion, care and integrity.

Expérience fantastique: Our cat Olive had a surgery for cancer the Capital City in 2023 but I often think about everything we went through and how grateful we are to the clinic. He is still here with us today:) We met Dr Gower, from Oncology, who took our concerns very seriously and for Dr Liptak, the oncology surgeon, to assess Olive right then and there. They both communicated very closely with us. They even went out of their way to answer emails when they were not at the clinic or even on vacation days. We felt so well informed and calm that he was in the right hands. Even after he ripped his stitches, they were able to fix his incision and he healed well. We just wanted to say, we are so grateful!

Expérience fantastique: Thank you so much to the team here at Capital City - Teagan my dr was amazing and everyone else was so freaking awesome to explain solutions in depth for my pets and calming me down because i was crying as my cat went in for a treatment. I forget this persons name but they literally sat and waited for me to be done with a phone call to my regular vet to help me understand my cats new medication and were so great, reception was so great too. Can't recommend this service enough and Berlioz is so much better for it xx

Expérience fantastique: The faculty itself is spotless and very well equipped. The thought that went into clients needs is clear. Well worth the 2 hour drive from where we live. We have had two recent experiences with the clinic. The first was a tumour removal with our dog, Hilo. The information provided before surgery and after surgery was detailed and clear. Surgery was quickly scheduled. The staff were very responsive to a concern post surgery including follow up by the surgeon himself. The second experience was about 6 weeks later when the same dog had an emergency. The staff who were there when we arrived in the middle of the night were supportive and our options were clearly presented. We at all times felt he was in good hands. Unfortunately our dog took a turn for the worst early the next morning and the clinic staff were unable to save him. They truly did everything they could. The care we as the owners received after Hilo’s passing was above and beyond. Would not hesitate to make the drive again if needed for future medical needs with our other pup. Will be recommending them to anyone who asks.

Every single staff member went above and beyond — their compassion, communication, and attention to detail made such a stressful time feel calm and supported. The entire process was smooth, professional, and filled with genuine kindness. We’re so grateful for everything they did for Ajax — words honestly don’t do it justice.

We had taken him to Kanata Stittsville vets who for $1,500 confirmed he was very sick and that they would be closed for 2 days for a dillawarrieyy festival. So we brought him to capital city and I have never felt so relieved to have him surrounded by caring professionals. Doctors: Wu, O’Carroll, O’Niell, Perrault delivered exceptional care and and kept us totally up to date. We are so grateful our boy is okay thanks to them. Expérience fantastique: I would like to thank the Capital City team for their help and expertise with the injury my puppy sustained. When we got in the door the puppy was brought to the back immediately to tend to his injury. They did an ultrasound then gave me their diagnosis. They made it quick and easy for the puppy. We were there for about 3.5 hours and they put me at ease. We went home with medications and they were very attentive when I called multiple times after our first visit with updates on the puppy. Each time I Calle date front desk team spoke with a doctor and let me know what they said. they were very helpful over the phone. I had to go back the next day because things were not looking good yet, and I was reassured things will start looking up soon. they did a repeat ultrasound on the second day to confirm things were looking ok. The first visit we had Dr. Tiffani and second visit we had Dr. Aaron. Both were amazing, soft spoken, and compassionate for what they do. Expérience négative: We were extremely disappointed with our experience. Referred by another vet, we paid a very high price just for the initial check-up. We didn’t receive a surgery quote until later in the day, but were pressured to purchase pre-op and post-op medication beforehand. When the quote finally arrived, it was between $8,000 and $10,000—far higher than expected. It took considerable effort to get a refund for the unused medication. After visiting two other reputable clinics, we received much more reasonable quotes and felt less pressured into buying anything from both locations. Overall, we felt misled and would not recommend this clinic based on our experience.

Expérience négative: ⭐ 1-Star Review (Our Experience with Silver Seven Animal Hospital) We brought our cat to Silver Seven after we thought she had been attacked. We spent around $1,400 in tests and admin fees, and were told it would cost another $6,000–$7,000 to keep her overnight and “fix” her. Based on what we were told, we made the heartbreaking decision to have her put down. When we went back the next day to say goodbye, she was walking around and acting completely normal. We couldn’t believe it, so we decided to take her home instead. The staff highly recommend we put her down. They did not agree with our decision. That was six months ago and she’s healthy and active as ever. We are not the type of people to leave bad reviews and I have waited six months to leave my feedback. Very sad that they use emotions of pet owners to make money.

Graham has been taking care of my many Boxers for several years in Ottawa region and has been the most professional and compassionate veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He has performed very difficult and challenging dental surgeries/procedure's for our boys and girls without hesitation and with excellent lasting results. Expérience fantastique: We cannot be more grateful for the care our sweet Samson received at Capital City. We brought him in late on a Sunday from out of town, as he really wasn’t doing well. Everyone treated Samson, as well as his humans, with the utmost care, concern and empathy. Everyone we interacted with went above and beyond to make us feel at ease during a pretty scary ordeal. They explained our options for treatment clearly, and were transparent about alternate options. The staff welcomed our questions and were happy to answer them. They kept a close eye on Samson, noticed that his condition changed, and acted promptly. They got him into surgery more quickly than initially planned, no doubt saving his life. They went above and beyond in setting up a visit with him in an exam room, as his younger human brother was really missing him while he was admitted. We received frequent updates of his condition throughout his stay, and the staff made sure we would be successful in supporting the remainder of his healing once he was discharged. Dr. Verney, Dr. Biskup, all the veterinary technicians, assistants and staff - THANK YOU for giving us our Samson back. Thank you for taking such great care of him and us. We could not recommend Capital City more.

Expérience fantastique: Huge thank you to the team at CapCity for taking care of our boy back in April when he was hospitalized for severe pancreatitis and again last Sunday when he wasn’t feeling well or walking. He got a quick diagnosis of old dog vestibular disease and was made comfortable enough to come home that night so he could follow up with his family vet clinic the next morning. They were very understanding and supportive and got him seen right away when we brought him in unable to walk. He’s home and recovering now and we’re thankful!

Expérience fantastique: My first and only visit to Capital City Animal Hospital was to find out my dog was very ill and had to be put down that same night. As unfortunate as the circumstances were, Capital City did their best to make the process a little easier. Staff were compassionate and helpful, and the vet was very informative, empathetic and patient throughout the process. After the bad news was delivered, and the test results were displayed. We were given plenty of time to go through our feelings, and spend some last moments with our dog. We were provided a comfortable space along with a cart full of treats, and did not feel rushed at all as we said goodbye.

Expérience fantastique: Dr. Magee saved my precious cat Moon from cancer. The oncology team was extremely compassionate and there for Moon and I every step of the way. Through surgery then 5 rounds of chemotherapy, their team was exceptional. I’m over the moon (no pun intended) to say we are a year post chemotherapy! Dr. Magee and her team are heroes. I will be forever grateful for all they did for my Moon.

Expérience fantastique: I would like to finally take a moment to thank the team at Capital City Hospital, especially Dr Hailey, for their care and compassion on Sunday August 24. In the span of 12 hours, the health of our almost 14 year old Opale deteriorated quickly, most likely due to a brain tumour. This came as a great surprise as she had very few symptoms prior to that night. As her health got worse, the information provided was clear and factual, but given with sensitivity and compassion. Although this happened so quickly, we were given the time and space to process the experience as best as we could. It lead to a very difficult decision, but I cannot think of a better place to have experienced this extremely sad day. We miss our dog terribly, but we find consolation in knowing that her last hours we spent surrounded with good care, love and compassion. I hope you meet the team under different circumstances, but I would greatly recommend their care.

Expérience fantastique: On Sunday I had to bring my dog Nala in unexpectedly, and I can’t thank the staff enough for how kind and understanding they were. They treated both of us with compassion and helped me make one of the hardest choices, but ultimately the right one for Nala. There was no wait time at all, which meant she got the care she needed right away. The only thing I found difficult was being asked about urn options while Nala was still with me in the room, it caught me off guard in such an emotional moment. That said, I know these conversations are necessary, and I deeply appreciate the care and gentleness shown otherwise. Overall, I’m very grateful to the entire team for helping me through such a painful day with compassion and respect.

The way this clinic is set up allows time to grieve loss and leave without having to interact with other patients and parents. While the price is high for us they did an excellent job in helping us through one of our most painful days.

Expérience fantastique: I had to take my scottie dog Dudley for an emergency visit to Capital City Vet a few nights ago for excessive vomiting.I found the service was wonderful .The entire staff including the people at the front desk, vet tech and the two vets I saw did everything they could to answer all my concerns and keep me informed along the way of Dudley’s condition and treatment options.Dr.McMurray and Dr.Nagora were the two vets who saw him and were both very thorough in their treatment explanations and taking time to answer all my questions.Dudley is home now and doing fine. I feel happy knowing that we have such a good emergency animal hospital here in Ottawa.

Our poor dog spent 4 days there and although the outcome was not good, the staff were so accommodating and caring. It is also a nice touch that there is a separate room to leave the clinic once your pet passes so you don't have to walk into a full waiting room in a distraught state. Expérience négative: Worst vet experience I’ve ever had. My dog and I were kept in an exam room for over 6 hours with no food, no water, and only a backless bench to sit on. Staff gave vague excuses and the vet provided only a rushed, incomplete exam — despite my concern about possible battery acid exposure, the vet barely looked in my dog’s mouth. Instead, the vet spent a long time trying to push toward an unnecessary x-ray "just to make sure". This clinic showed a lack of compassion, professionalism, and respect for both pet and owner.

Expérience fantastique: I can’t say enough good things about Capital City Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital. Dr. Lowe is absolutely amazing and truly invested in finding what works best for my dog, Ace. We’ve been coming here since they opened for his allergies, and after trying many options elsewhere, Dr. Lowe finally found what worked for him. After over a year off the medication, we’re back on the treatment plan. We also had to come through the emergency side this past summer when Ace was punctured by something (we still don’t know what). The staff were incredible. They stitched him up beautifully, and he healed quickly without any complications. The entire team here is amazing! Highly recommend!

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful staff, my dogs tried to make friends with a porcupine & got them in very quick without adding stress to the situation. They were all very nice & thoughtful explaining everything.

Expérience négative: I brought my dog in for a torn nail that would not stop bleeding around 10:30p.m .after it stopped bleeding I was told she would have to have her nail removed so there wouldn't be an infection they told us it would be a couple of hours we waited untill 2:30 am to be told we would have to wait another 2 or 3 hours or we could leave. If i would have known that l would not have wasted my time.

Expérience négative: I arrived 30 minutes early for my appointment. Poppet wasn't called in until 8:20am. 20 minutes late. The doctor was nice, kind, and knowledgeable. However, she rushed me out as she was behind schedule (no fault of mine). She told me that they didn't need to draw blood from Poppet as they had a bank of frozen plasma. Asked me to bring her back in a week. I went back to the waiting room to wait for paperwork. After a few minutes, I was approached with the payment machine and two pieces of paper and was told that I could pick these medications up at any pharmacy. I exited and then realized that I didn't have the plasma. Having driven 2 hours and awakened at 4 a.m., I was glad that I thought of it. As it turns out, all of the 8 medications but 1 were supposed to be administered right there at the hospital! I mentioned that it was a good thing that I hadn't driven all the way back home and received a nonchalant reply like it was no big deal. I also mentioned that my 2nd appointment hadn't been booked and was told, that's ok, you can do it by phone. I felt like they were nice and caring (phony) until they got my $1025.00. After that, we didn't matter. Upon arriving home, the plasma had melted. I asked if it was ok to refreeze. No reply. I had to send emails back and forth as no one would answer my calls, and Poppet's eye was worse! Finally, I stated that I wanted to speak to someone. Turns out, they sent me another prescription to replace the one that might be making it worse. Oh! They are NOT OPEN on Fridays... since when is Friday the weekend? Only because they want to charge more?? I'm not impressed by the 1st visit. Let's see how the follow-up is. Again. Dr. Veronica seemed good. So eye is worse. They sent an email saying they canceled my follow up per my request. I did NOT request a cancelation. Reception Carly is rude and has zero compassion. So the hospital just terminated my appointment and all contact with them. All because I have been sending emails and leaving voice messages regarding my pet. Can I rate lower than 1? I guess money is more important than the actual animals. Don't show emotions and don't stress if you visit this emergency hospital.

Expérience fantastique: Recently we brought our 11month old Golden Retriever Luna in as she was lethargic and declining rapidly. Right from the second I walked through the door, the entire staff were phenomenal! Our pup got her first exam and Dr O’Carrol confirmed something was going on as she had a fever so he ordered up some tests. As Luna was going through a barrage of testing, they kept me informed and checked in with me regularly while I waited like an over anxious parent, X rays revealed something in her tummy so they kept her overnight so they could do an ultrasound in the AM. This confirmed an obstruction. Thankfully they were able to remove the material using Endoscopy and we averted surgery. From the moment we walked through the doors, I knew my girl was in the best of care and I could go on forever about the care this hospital and staff provides. Simply put, a HUGE Thank you to all who were on staff Wednesday July 16th and Thursday July 17. From the staff at the counter that welcomed me, the young lady that triaged Luna, Dr. O’Carroll, Dr Gottlieb and Dr Delport-Reynolds. You ALL did an amazing job taking care of our girl! Our beloved dachshund, Oliver, has be en through a lot - he's had not one, but two spine surgeries for IVDD, and countless visits in between. Through it all, the team here has been nothing short of incredible. Dr. Larose performed both of Oliver’s spinal surgeries with exceptional skill and compassion. We’re so grateful for the care and expertise be brought to such a delicate situation. He really makes you feel like you are the only pet he treats, he gives you his undivided attention every single visit. Dr. Gottlieb has also been a huge part of Oliver’s journey, especially during emergency visits. She continuously gave us so much peace during stressful moments. The veterinary technicians and assistants have consistently gone above and beyond. Whether it was explaining next steps, answering our endless questions, or simply offering comfort to Oliver (and to us!), they’ve made every visit feel like we’re in the best possible hands. It’s clear that every single member of the team genuinely cares. What truly sets this place apart is how they make you feel. No matter how many times we’ve come in—whether for something serious or routine—we’ve always felt seen, heard, and supported. Dr. Magee was very thorough and helped walk us through a difficult conversation and next steps. She was very thorough and compassionate and we really appreciated it.

She very clearly laid out all the options, and gave me confidence to choose the best option for her. She sent results to our regular vet quickly. Our cat even came in a little stinky (so sorry!) and they trimmed and washed her up for us. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back. PS suki is doing much better this week!

Dr Phil Larose was amazing from the start - this was such a hard situation for us and Dr. Larose was extremely compasionate and patient. We were also grateful that we could communicate with him in our fist language (french). Everyone was fantastic and compasionate with us (front desk, etc.). We received many follow-ups to ensure Lexie was doing great after the surgery and someone was always available to answer our many questions/concerns. We are forever grateful that the team took such good care of Lexie. Her paw healed perfectly and she's doing great a year later.

Unfortunately his condition was inoperable and Max ultimately had a peaceful death. Cannot thank staff enough for all they did.

Expérience fantastique: I brought one of my dogs in today with inflammation in both ears. Staff at reception were fantastic; the intake process was seamless and quick. They were super nice and kind. The techs were also amazing, and appreciated my dog’s sweet personality. They were patient with her as she was a bit of a drama queen. The vet, Dr Perrault, was also wonderful. We were in and out in just a few hours on a very busy day for the clinic. The clinic is also spotless - I sat on the floor with my dog and didn’t think twice. It was amazingly clean, and even smelled clean (but not like cleaner). I’m very happy with our experience there and would recommend Capital City to anyone.

Expérience négative: I’m extremely disappointed with the care my cat received at Capital City Vet Clinic, particularly from Dr. Ciaran O'Carroll. I brought in my 2-year-old male cat in because he was in severe pain and showing signs of a urinary blockage. The diagnosis was a blockage that needed immediate unblocking. Unfortunately, Dr. O'Carroll showed no compassion and was very dismissive, he seemed more focused on the cost of the procedure than the actual well-being of my cat. We were never asked to sign a consent form, we were told they were running a blood test before they could proceed with the procedure and about 30 minutes went by and no one had come back to update us. I went to administration only to find out they had gone ahead with the procedure without letting us know. I also have serious doubts that all necessary tests were conducted to rule out other possible issues. There was very little communication about what was being done or why. We were never told what came back on the blood results either. After the procedure, they handed us our cat with zero explanation or support for post-care. No written instructions, no guidance on what to look out for, not even verbal guidance. We were left completely in the dark during a very stressful time. As a 21 year old girl right out of university this was very difficult for me to handle while I want my cat to live but also have to come up with 1000s of dollars. $1600 and a few days later , my cat was still in pain and showing signs of a partial blockage. We went to Eagleson Vet Clinic, where they properly assessed him and discovered he had a UTI the whole time and had severe inflammation and urethral damage — most likely caused by the poorly done catheter procedure at Capital City. This entire experience was not only traumatic but potentially dangerous for my cat. I would strongly caution other pet owners about trusting this clinic, especially with something as serious as a urinary blockage. The lack of empathy, professionalism, and thoroughness from Dr. O'Carroll was truly disappointing

Expérience fantastique: While Capital City Vets is expensive, they really are top notch. Everyone from the doctors to the vet techs to the custodian was so kind and compassionate. They helped us find options for affordability and helped us greatly when we had to bring in our kitty for a broken femur. They gave her excellent care. All of the staff are in the field they were meant to be in, looking after our fur babies. We appreciate everything they did for us.

We had to bring our dog, Loon, for an emergency visit as she was suffering a severe allergic reaction. I had never had to use an emergency clinic before and was a bit unsure as to what to expect. I can tell you that the staff there is amazing. Everyone I encountered, from the initial phone call, to reception, to the vet techs and the vet, was attentive and caring. Since Loon was high priority, they saw her right away. Within minutes, I was speaking with the vet and they had started her care plan. The vet and the technicians came out regularly to personally update me on Loon's progress. The vet tech even took a picture so I could see that Loon was improving. I was so appreciative of the care we received. I was also pleasantly surprised with the cost. Being an emergency clinic, I was expecting to pay double what I did. I hope you will never need this service, but if you are in need of an emergency vet, you can't go wrong with this team. Huge thanks, Elizabeth and Loon :)

Expérience fantastique: A few weeks ago we had to bring our cat Crowley in, and while there was nothing that could be done to save him, the folks here did their best and provided the best service possible for our little guy and for us as well. Impressive facility, friendly staff and they weren't interested in trying to guilt us into any financially compromising situations. I was beyond impressed with everything and they even sent us a flower arrangement with a condolence card a week later. I hope your pet never requires the services offered here, but if they do, you won't find a better place.

Expérience fantastique: We had to bring our baby Duke in for an emergency due to a urinary blockage, and the team at Capital City was absolutely incredible from start to finish. They were not only professional but also so kind and compassionate throughout the entire process. Duke had to be hospitalized for a few days, and we received consistent updates every morning and evening, which brought us so much peace of mind. We were also able to visit him in the ICU whenever we wanted, which meant the world to us. I felt completely at ease knowing he was in such caring and capable hands. I can’t thank the staff enough and would highly recommend Capital City to anyone needing emergency veterinary care.

Expérience fantastique: I have been meaning to go out of my way to review Capital City Emerg Animal Hospital because they are spectacular. After a significant panic with my rescue potcake, they swiftly and calmly took care of us. Dr.Alyssa and the vet-tech team were so lovely. My pup needed a shot and they were so gentle and compassion with her. They did not make my partner and I feel stupid or undermine our stress considering the throwing up and diarrhea she was having (even though in the end it was not anything significant). For any future emergency, I plan to only go here. They did a terrific job.

And to Dr. Liptak and tech Jen Anderson for quickly and successfully removing the tumour. Communication throughout was timely, caring, and clear. Our dog would have died a terrible way had we not found this tumour. And because of this team, we can look forward to much more time with this beautiful dog. You can really tell she loves what she does and cares deeply about both the animals and their owners. A huge thank you as well to Dr. Smith—what an incredible vet. She was not only extremely knowledgeable and thorough but also so gentle and compassionate with my boy! It’s rare to find a vet who takes the time to explain everything clearly and still treats your pet like their own. I left feeling completely confident that my dog was in the best hands possible. This team is amazing—5 stars all the way! I wouldn’t go anywhere

Expérience fantastique: I have a senior cat and pet insurance. My girl Trinity has been to ALL of the emergency hospitals & many different vet clinics and Capital City far exceeds my every expectation. Her cardiologist is at this hospital, as well as her internal medicine doctor. The staff, the emergency vets, the techs, reception, everyone is always in such a good mood. They go above and beyond to help your pet. Your furry child is the priority, not the almighty dollar or treatments or surgeries they don't need. I can breathe easy and actually sleep well KNOWING with all certainty that everyone at this hospital is the best there is in the area. I'm a helicopter mom and they get it. They treat my girl like their own. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. I might actually bake them a cake and I wish there was a national holiday for everyone that works at this hospital, they are THAT good. No one ever takes their bad day out on you and I'm always greeted with kindness and empathy from EVERYONE there.

Dr.Whipp, Dr. Larose, Dr. Biskup and every single staff member that took care of my little Boston. We were referred to Capital City after she was rushed to the ER, it has been a scary and stressful 3.5 months but this entire team went above and beyond to keep us informed and provide Boston with the best possible outcome. As we continue on the road to give her the best chance, we couldn't have had a more compassionate team to trust our dog with. Day or night they made time to put our fears at ease and gave us all the information, that allowed us to make informed decisions. Forever grateful <3

Expérience fantastique: What a great facility with amazing staff. I really appreciated the care and attention we received. Unlike other 24 hour emergency vet hospitals, I did not feel like we were being taken advantage of financially. The cost of the services we received was fair and reasonable. Expérience fantastique: This is an exceptional hospital. We brought our little guy Ma'iingan into the ER for vomiting and not acting like himself. The staff at the clinic took our concerns seriously and he was in with triage in no time. Ma'iingan can get quite stressed, and each person who handled him did so in a way that kept him calm (and he got to give his gentle snuggles in return). Dr. Nagora heard us out and took note of all his symptoms and his x-ray flagged the possibility of IBD. She explained the treatment for IBD kitties and even shared that her cat has IBD! After supportive care we made a plan to keep him comfortable at home until we follow up with our regular veterinarian for further testing. We have gone through extensive testing and all of the results indeed point to IBD. Since his visit, Ma'iingan has made a slow but steady improvement. He has been on a hydrolyzed protein diet since being seen at Cap City and has finally started prednisolone for the inflammation. His appetite has already increased and we're optimistic about his future. We are extremely grateful to Cap City and Dr. Nagora for pointing us in the right direction while keeping him as comfortable as possible. Toebeans crossed he continues respond so well to treatments. Obviously we don't want another ER trip but I feel assured knowing that Cap City exists. Thank you all so much for everything!

Expérience fantastique: The staff at Capital City are exceptional and the facility is clean, well organized and beautiful. My senior dog declined very quickly and had to be euthanized somewhat unexpectedly. Dr. Philip Wu manages the line between concise and compassionate, professional and kind with obvious experience. He was softspoken, direct and incredibly reassuring during what was a very difficult experience for myself and my family. I didn’t catch the names of the technicians or reception staff, but they were all also extremely sweet and professional. While I hope not to require emergency services again, Cap City will be my first choice.
