VCA Canada Calgary North Animal Hospital & 24 Hour Emergency Service: Avis
Expérience fantastique: What can I say, they saved my dogs life. When we brought Abby in she was literally mins away from death's door. They rushed her in to the back and began treatment. She stay in hospital for three days under Dr Barton's care. While the bill was more than we could afford they worked with us tremendously and basically gave us the third day and her take home medications for free. Can't say enough good things here. they did what they had to do to save her life. Thank you to Dr Barton and to staff for all your help and understanding through this tough time.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are happy to hear that our team could provide you support and compassion during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: They genuinely care about the animals that come in and explain your options well to you. And carry a large variety of different foods for your cats or dogs ( if they are on a specific diet)
Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. We are happy to hear that we exceeded your expectations.
Expérience fantastique: I'm so thankful to everyone who helped me tonight with mittens. I'm having such a hard time lately and the staff and Doctor's at Vca hospital made my night better. So Thanks to each and every one of you.

Expérience fantastique: We recently had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Iggy at VCA Animal Hospital, and we’re so grateful for the compassion we received during such a difficult time. The veterinarian was both informative and incredibly empathetic. He clearly explained our dog’s diagnosis, answered our questions, and delivered the news with genuine care and sensitivity. We felt truly supported throughout the entire process. The staff were also exceptional — kind, patient, and comforting every step of the way. We especially appreciated the ceremony room, which provided a peaceful, private space to say our goodbyes. Everything was handled with professionalism and heart. We’re very thankful to the entire team for their care and compassion.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and sharing these lovely pictures. We are sorry for your loss, but glad to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: I appreciate the ladies here so much!!! My one cat has redirected aggression issues... there was a stray outside our house today, he saw it and had a bad reaction. I was bitten, thankfully my other cat runs fast enough to get away. I was panicking and needed somebody to talk to, so I called VCA North as this is my boys' doctor/hospital. The lady was so kind!!! She talked me down for 30 mins, until my Enzo's medication kicked in and I felt calm enough to get off the phone. I forgot her name, but thank you so much for your advice and talking me through this ordeal! This vet is definitely one of the greater ones I've been to, since becoming a cat owner.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share you experience with us, Tanaysa. We're happy to hear that our team could provide support during a stressful time. We hope Enzo is doing well.
Expérience fantastique: Gave me the price of mind in a hour of need. Very polite and professional.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Robert. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your recent experience with us.

Thank you so much for your review and kind words, Stephen. We are happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital
Expérience fantastique: This review is for Dr Weegar and the reception/tech staff. Kind and caring. We've seen multiple vets at this location and others who were not as in depth or seemed rushed. Whereas Dr Weegar took time to explain everything calmed us down and made the situation much better. Thank you to all of you from Cosmo.
Thank you so much for your review and kind words. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit and that Cosmo is doing well.
Expérience fantastique: Ted got to meet the great ladies in reception and spent 1 night before going to the humane society. Thanks ladies.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience with our reception team.
Expérience fantastique: Compassionate, caring staff. They spoke with genuine care and concern not only for our sweet Oli but towards us and how we were as pet owners left with a difficult choice. We went in with our very sick cat and sadly, left without him, as we had to let him cross the rainbow bridge.
Thank your for your review and kind words, Audrey. We are so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that our team was able to provide you and your family comfort during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: If I had 6 stars I would give it!All the staff is nice friendly and super professional. Our boy cat is very difficult to manage and we went there very concerned about the way he will be treated having a bad previous experience at another hospital. The front desk ladies felt like our personal friends understanding our anxiety and talking us out of it.Dr.Hua was very kind with our pet and with us and again super professional. All of them went above and beyond to make our pet and us comfortable. He was thorough checked and given treatment plus a bit of cosmetic treatment (trim and nails cut) which were a bonus.I want them to know how greatful my family and I are for everything! Happy Holiday and God bless you! I highly recommend this centre.
Expérience fantastique: Had to take our 9 year old kitty in today as he became badly constipated over the last 24 hours. Being the week between Christmas and New Years, the only vets open are emergency clinics. I was worried about the cost of an emergency vet, but it was clear that Willow needed to see someone asap. We saw Dr Sarah Barnes and she was amazing. She showed great care for our little old man and understood our financial situation. We didn't feel pressure for the expensive diagnostic procedures. She calmed our fears completely. We walked in worried that we may have to make a difficult decision but left with some restorolax and the confidence to help our guy get cleared up. The office staff was amazing as well. Thank you for helping us! P.S. We have already got a little poop from Willow! Never thought I'd be so excited to hear the little plop sound in the kitty litter!
Expérience fantastique: My cat Arya needed a minor surgery, and some other medical stuff done and this hospital was just amazing to work with. Highly recommend their team. A special thank you too Dr. Bartin performing the surgery and just being a great physician. I really really appreciate them helping me and Arya out.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Arsh. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital. We hope that Arya is doing well and recovering from surgery.
Expérience fantastique: We took our dog there for an emergency and the staff was awesome. They helped our fur baby and made sure everything was taken care of.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit.
Expérience fantastique: These people are all superstars. They have helped me on numerous occasions and I feel like they are a better vet than others. They are popping up everywhere now but I have history here and am loyal. Find their food prices decent as well. Staff are where its at though. Great place
Thank you for your review and kind words, Wayne. Thank you for trusting us to care for your beloved family members. We also love the photo you shared, what a beautiful kitten.
Expérience fantastique: Thank you for supporting Denvor during his last hour. Much indebted.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Leticia. We are truly sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing staff. Always so kind and caring. Truly have made some horrible moments bearable from their kindness.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Kylie. We're happy to hear that we could provide some comfort and support during a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: The staff at VCA are the ones you want when you have an emergency in the middle of the night. They are professionnel and caring I truly recieved better care and concern for my furry family member than was given to me at my last hospital visit. They followed up with calls after Wolfgang was released genuinely concernd with his recovery.I am and always will be thankful for the angles of animal care at CVA Canada Calgary North Animal Hospital
Thank you for your review and kind words, Robert. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital and that Wolfgang is recovering well.
Expérience fantastique: Truly Exceptional, Compassionate Care During the Hardest Moment I cannot speak highly enough of VCA Calgary North Animal Hospital. Their service, especially during an incredibly difficult time, was top-notch and profoundly compassionate. My 12-year-old Frenchie, Max, came in with serious symptoms. The team immediately took him in for diagnostics. When his vitals showed a sharp decline, Dr. Veronica Hua reviewed him instantly. She was clear, direct, and sensitive as she walked me through what she discovered and the options for care. Based on Max's condition, we ultimately decided the kindest choice was to let him go peacefully. The entire staff handled the situation with immense sensitivity. They provided a comfort room, gave me a buzzer bell to signal when I was ready for each new step in the process, and offered a private back door so I didn't have to walk through the main waiting area to leave. These small details made a huge difference. What truly sets them apart is their incredible proactivity: I had an appointment scheduled for Max at a different clinic the following week. When I called the clinic the next day to let them know I needed to cancel it, VCA North had already called the other clinic in advance to inform them of Max's passing. This level of foresight and care is absolutely unmatched. Thank you to Dr. Hua and the entire VCA North team for making the final moments for our beloved Max as dignified and peaceful as possible.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Elisha. We are so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that we can provide some comfort to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience négative: Absolutely the worst vet in Calgary. They are negligent, lazy, and only care about how big they can make your bill. The only staff there worth mentioning that are kind, good at their job, and go out of their way to make it a positive experience are Jeannie at the front desk, Dr. Boyer and Jenifer Schutt. Jennifer was kind enough to talk to me on the phone for over 25 minutes about my cats current state and answer all of my questions in great detail, she is the best employee at vca that we got the chance to have. The other vet we saw there tried to prescribe a medication that was causing my cat intense nausea that Jennifer took him off of. This happened because the vet didn’t care to look at his chart because once i questioned it she said “oh yeah i see this here that it says he was nauseous and once he was off the medication it improved”. This vet also tried to convince me to do an xray despite my cat already having 2 x-rays done that were not concerning. I would call for updates on my cat and would not get a phone call until 4+ hours later. While visiting my cat there a tech came in and gave him an IV medication and when i asked her a question she said “sorry i dont know anything about your cat i was just told to give this med”. We had to return to this vet and we waited 3+ hours in the waiting room which was over our quoted time and we never got an update, once in a room we waited an additional 2.5+ hours for bloodwork we were told would take 45 minutes. When my cat returned to me he needed to use the litter box so badly he was freaking out in his carrier which he never does. This means he went over 6 hours without peeing or being offered a litter box while in the back after bloodwork. My cat needed an ultrasound and when vca north wouldn’t do it for another 2 days but asked if we were okay to keep him at the vet (with no real reason this was needed) I told them i’d be taking him somewhere else they insisted they would try to do (obviously wanting the money). We took my cat somewhere else and had the ultrasound and results back to us before vca would’ve been available for the ultrasound. Most of our bad experiences could have been avoided if the vets would’ve read the notes from the previous vet stays a few days prior, receptionists being kind and giving invoices/asking if you wanted one (apart from jeannie who is great), techs giving medications to animals they knew nothing about, and getting regular updates and not continuously having to call begging for an update. It is clear the staff here do not care about your animals or you. They suggest pointless tests that have already been done, quote you short times and keep you waiting for hours. This is absolutely the worst vet in calgary and i’d rather drive out of the city than come here ever again.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Alyssa. We appreciate your very thorough summary of your experience. First, we want to apologies for failing to meet your expectations and acknowledge that there are several concerns that you have brought forward that require attention:
1) Wait times– We acknowledge that the delay to provide updates is unacceptable, especially when you were quoted a shorter wait time. As an emergency hospital that operates on a triage basis, it is possible that wait times may adjust from what was originally quotes. However, it is the responsibility of our team to update our clients should these wait times change. The fact that we failed to meet this essential expectation is unacceptable and we assure you it will be addressed with our team
2) Communication – It is our Veterinarians responsibility to review our patients medical files prior to speaking with the client. Furthermore, it essential that all recommended treatments and their costs are clearly explained and our clients are given the opportunity to ask questions. Additionally, it is important that updates are provided in a timely manner. Again, this falls below our standards and will be reviewed with our team so that a similar situation does not happen in the future.
3) Compassionate Care – To learn that your cat was in a great deal of discomfort when he was returned to you is of concern. It is of utmost importance that our patients receive appropriate care and attention during their time at our hospital. We will be looking further into this issue to understand why this occurred.
We are truly disappointed to hear about your experience and that we failed to maintain the standards that we have set for ourselves as a hospital. However, your feedback has brought forward a number of concerns that we will be addressing with our team to ensure that we learn from your experience.
We would also appreciate the chance to speak with you directly toward a resolution that reflects that standard of care we aim to provide. Please contact our Hospital Manager, Jon Punshon. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience fantastique: In May 2025 I had the impossible experience of having to say goodbye to my 17 year old senior kitty Joey. I had never been to VCA before, but had to choose an emergency vet close to my house quickly. After being advised by the vet that it was time to say goodbye, I was told they had a comfort room where I could spend as much time as I needed to say goodbye. They were so gracious and kind to me, letting me stay there for 8 hours without any pressure of rushing, only compassion and gentleness. I had many people, friends and family visit throughout the day to say goodbye, and they welcomed everyone. Whenever I needed to take a break and go out for some fresh air, when I came back inside the folks at the front desk said "welcome back" every time. I never felt like I was an inconvenience. I decided to bury Joey and had requested a box, when I came to the front desk to get him, they had decorated the box with medical tape, cutting out hearts and writing out his name. These little details were so kind and the staff went above and beyond to help me feel seen in my grief. A stopped by a few weeks later to drop of a thank you card, and to my surprise I got a card in the mail with over 10 different individualized messages inside the card from the staff with comforting messages around pet loss, death, grief, and love. It was beyond what I could have ever expected and it meant so much to me to be shown that level of understanding, care, and love during such a difficult time. A huge thank you to all the staff at VCA <3
Thank you for your review and kind words, Katie. We are so sorry for your loss, but are happy to hear that our team provided comfort to you during such a difficult time.
Expérience négative: They are only after the money. They don't care about your animal and will use any excuse to hold and euthinze your animal if you can't afford there outrageous cost . Go anywhere else if possible and if you don't have at least 2-3 grand to fork out prepare to have your animal put to sleep.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are very sorry to hear that we failed to meet you expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
We did want to provide some insight regarding your comments. Our team is committed to working within our clients budget while providing medically appropriate treatments. Furthermore, our hospital has no authority to hold or euthanize a clients pet without the owners consent and certainly not if an owner is unable to afford veterinarian care.
If during your last visit, we did not adhere to our procedures and protocols, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you to learn more about your experience so that we can look into the matter further. Please contact our Hospital Manager, Jon Punshon to review your experience in more detail. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: Brought my mini long haired dachshund in, as he had swallowed a foreign object and it was not coming up after a few hours. Figured the cost would be $450-500 for induced vomiting, regardless of where we went and it was 5 am so had to be a 24 hour veterinary hospital regardless. Receptionists and vet techs were lovely. When we were moved to a room, I could immediately tell something was wrong with how long it was taking. Upon meeting the vet, we did not like her demeanor and attitude. She said they tried to get him to vomit, but was unsuccessful so they administered anti nausea meds without my consent or knowledge. She shoved papers with fat costs and did not really leave room for questions. There was also no small talk or any human interaction, just straight to the punch. Which just adds to the stress of the situation, does not minimize it. When I expressed I had just lost my job quite recently and asked what can be removed from the quotes and cost estimates, I was directed to signing up for a pet plan credit card, if I was approved. CPR option was also brought up in less than 2 mins of discussion, which was even more stressful. I ended up going to Trinity Hills 24 Hr Pet Hospital. Receptionists were very lovely and understanding, would once again like to recognize their efforts. It also seemed quite common to transfer VCA clients to other clinics not associated with them. The veterinarian, however made a slightly snarky comment “it’s going to be the same cost everywhere.” Which is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. The vet at Trinity Hills, was night and day in comparison. When we saw the vet here, she expressed how she wouldn’t have immediately administered anti nausea medication, and would’ve waited a bit to try inducing vomit again. Hearing this from another professional, made me very uncomfortable from the action taken by VCA. Now I have been forced into the option of an endoscopy, which is still a whopping TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS cheaper than the quote given at VCA. VCA clinics are always my last option and this just reinforces my negative feelings towards clinics in this company. Will never ever recommend to anyone.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Erin. We truly appreciate your thorough summary of your experience and apologize that we failed to meet your expectations.
At Calgary North Animal Hospital, we strive to provide compassionate care and suggest medically appropriate options to our clients, while considering their financial circumstances. In addition, we aim to provide our clients with appropriate wait times and while as an emergency facility operating on a triage basis, wait times can change, it is our responsibility to update our clients accordingly.
From your review, we recognize that in this instance, our actions did not reflect the high standards we have set for ourselves as a hospital. We assure you that your experience will be reviewed with our team to identify areas where we can improve to ensure that we achieve the quality of care that we aim to provide all our patients.
We also encourage you to reach out to our Hospital Manager, Jon Punshon, to discuss your experience further to ensure that all of your concerns are accurately understood so that we can address them accordingly with our team. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience fantastique: On October 8th we realized our dog Apollo was not feeling well and his stomach appeared to be swollen. Our regular vet was not able to see him and advised us to take him immediately to emergency. We decided to bring him to this clinic as we know it is highly regarded. We called on our way and gave the details of what was happening. When we arrived they took him in right away as they could see there was something seriously wrong. They took us to another room with a staff member who started taking our information. Within minutes another staff member came in to let us know they needed to administer pain medication and relieve the pressure in his abdomen. Unfortunately, when the vet came in a few minutes later the news was not good. Our option was major invasive surgery and tough recovery and due to his age we decided to let him go. The staff were extremely compassionate and supportive during this difficult time for us. One week later, October 15th, I returned to pick up his paw print and asked if I could speak to a vet as I was having guilt issues whether or not I had caused this problem. They were so understanding and even without an appointment I was able to see a vet I believe was named Ciara. She spent 20 minutes with me discussing this type of condition and what they know and don't know about it but assured me that it was not due to anything I had done such as giving too much treats. She pulled his file up and was aware of what had happened when we brought him in. She was so amazing and should be commended for the time she spent with me as well as all the other staff members from our original visit. We are adopting a rescue dog and have decided that Calgary North Animal Hospital will be our vet from this day forward. Thank you again for making this difficult time as bearable as possible.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Stephen. We are so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that our doctor could provide you some comfort as you navigated through this challenging time.
Expérience négative: Very unprofessional. I was quoted 1-2 hrs wait, then at 2.5 hrs I ask for an updated ETA. They said 30 mins. But in reality it wpuld have been at least another hour wait. They do not value your time, nor do they the audacity to give transparent wait times. Never go here if your vet is sick. You will wait for 3 hours just to be told to go to another vet
Thank you for your review and feedback, Mickayla. We are very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during your most recent visit.
As we operate on a triage basis, wait times can fluctuate depending on the cases arriving at the hospital. That being said, should wait times change from the time originally quoted, it is our responsibility to update clients and provide as accurate an adjustment to the wait time as possible, to allow the client to make an informed decision as to whether they wish to continue to wait or to contact another emergency hospital.
We are very sorry to hear that this was not the case during your most recent visit. While it is very disappointing to learn that this was your experience, we do value your feedback and assure you that your review will be shared with our team so that we can learn from it and ensure that it does not happen again in the future. If you would like to review your concerns further, please contact our Hospital Manager, Jon Punshon
Expérience négative: Although the staff are friendly and professional and overall it’s good service, this place has really declined over the past few years. I come in with my pets for their annual wellness check/shots and it’s like the first time I’ve ever come in (and I have been coming here for over 10 years). The Drs take notes but they do not read them at the next visit - same questions over again, I have to go through their history on everything. And they seem more concerned with promoting their food products than the health of my pets. There was literally no issues with my pets but the Dr recommend changing their diet - which I declined (my pets are currently on high end food (N&D brand)- just not their vet food). They used to provide a wellness report after an exam - but now provide nothing. This level of service is good if it were a walk-in pet clinic but would not recommend for annual care. Time to check out other vets in the area with higher ratings/reviews.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that your last visit did not meet your expectations. We understand your frustration in having to provide your pet's history on each visit as this should not be the case. We would very much appreciate a chance to review your recent experience in more detail with you to identify where we can improve. Please contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon, to discuss further.
Expérience fantastique: Staff was so nice and kind when we dropped a little stray kitten off. They cuddle her and said they were going to feed her before calling Animal Services.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Colleen. Thank you so much for bringing the lost kitten to our hospital for safekeeping until it could be transferred to Animal Services and hopefully reunited with their owner.
Expérience fantastique: We found a lost kitten in our back alley. We brought the kitten in to the VCA Calgary North Hospital at 9:00 PM on Wednesday Sep 23. The staff and the doctor showed genuine care, happiness, and welcome when they received the kitten. We are very happy and comfort because the kitten shall have the best care while waiting to find a nice home. The whole process was take less than 10 minutes and we are very grateful to met such a nice group of professional. Thank you for your kindness.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience when you visited our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: I like to say thank you to the staff at the clinic for all your help tonight. Appreciate it.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Paul. We're happy to hear that you and your lovely cat had a positive experience during your most recent visit.
Expérience négative: Worst experience with vet I bring my bearded dragon in to get help with tail rot instead they come out telling me she has all these other problems when all I wanted was just to get the tail removed that was it I know she's had tail rot I brought her to another vet before in Manitoba and I come here and now they make me pay $900 of the only money I had for her the only loane I could get and they used it all just to pump her up with a bunch of medications that she didn't even need saying the tail is going to fall off and the tail still never fell off and now she's got an infection in her body they didn't even give me all the right proper dosages and they're telling me if I wanted to get more I'd have to pay for another vet bill vet visit even though I already paid for all the medication and they didn't give me the right dosages . So I basically paid for medication that I didn't even completely get dosages of this is very wrong to do this to someone if you guys really cared about animals you would not do this I've been to many other vets and I've never had a vet do this to me before all they care about is money if you got a bunch of money go here but if you don't then I would not recommend this place to anyone specially with exotic animals ! I tried talking to a lady on the phone and she literally hung up on me that is very unprofessional
Thank you for your review and feedback, Paige. We are sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit. However, sharing your experience provides us with important insight and gives us an opportunity to review areas of improvement with our team.
Expérience fantastique: This morning, at 4:30am, I had to make the devastating, heartbreaking decision to euthanize my 14 year old chihuahua, Birdie Birdie was my whole world - I live alone, far from family, so she was my daily companion, my best friend, and love of my life To say I was crushed would be an understatement I called ahead to inquire about a couple things pertaining to euthanasia, and the kindest, most compassionate young man named Spencer helped answer my queries, all while remaining professional, helpful and gentle. When I arrived at the hospital, Birdie was essentially gone. The staff immediately went to work preparing her for our final goodbye which, albeit it extremely painful for me, was incredibly peaceful for Birdie. Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart to Spencer and the two female staff in the back
Thank you for your review and kind words, Laura. We are so sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved family member is truly heartbreaking, but we're happy to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: This vet was so helpful and showed so much compassion the vet almost cried talking with my husband. Even the next day when we thought it was too late to have our zoey girl cremated they still allowed my sister to cremate her so we could bring her home. Would recommend 10/10. I don’t know how they do what they do but their hearts have no bounds. Thank you for all you have helped us with. You guys are amazing.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Melissa. We're so sorry for your loss, but glad to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Brought my little bun in when she was experiencing GI stasis. All the staff were lovely and the vet was very well spoken and gave me range of great options to help her get better. She stayed overnight and when I brought her home she was back to normal and all better! Thank you so much to the Calgary North Team for helping my bun out! :)
Thank you for your review and kind words, Natasha. We are so happy to hear that we were able to provide timely care for your bunny and that she is has recovered.
Expérience positive: Recently took my cat here when he was ill. They were really accommodating and the staff was cordial. They did take good care of my cat. IF you have *no other choice*, then take your pet here. If you can go elsewhere, try it. VCA is a corporate vet. There prices reflect a 24hr service. They're main point is care of pet but its closely followed by making a profit. When I'm at a regular market vet (or even Fish Creek when it was 24 hours) the doctors often present you options AND prices so you can make a decision for care within your budget if needed.. I noticed the doctors at VCA mention treatment but not prices until they're prompted for it. They suggest a dozen things "needed" but never lay it out point for point like other vets do. It's a corporation that takes a desperate situation for pet parents, without transparencies, to the bank. VCA management wants profit, the doctors are caught making that happen.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Amber. We are happy to hear that you had a positive experience with our team. However, we did not to address your comments regarding the cost for care.
It is our policy and expectation that we provide our clients with an estimate, including all costs, for recommended treatments and diagnostics prior to proceeding and provide them with an opportunity to review each recommendation and ask questions.
If the estimate is outside of the client’s budget, our team will work with them to develop a medically appropriate plan that aligns with their financial needs.
If during your most recent visit, any of the above procedures were not followed, we would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your experience so that we can review it with our team and ensure that these concerns are addressed appropriately. Please contact our Hospital Manger, Jon Punshon, to discuss your visit further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: Absolutely worst experience with this clinic our dog was dropped here by a unknowingly neighbor and they refused to let us bring her hypoallergenic food or pick her up citing others could have similar colored dog with the same collar. They requested animal services impound our dog before we can then go get her. It took a day of shuffling our dog who was clearly ours from one place to another to make contact with her.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Mary. While the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership bylaw does state that a citizen can bring an at large animal to a vet clinic for safekeeping, it further states that all animals will be brought to Animal Services to be redeemed by the owner.
While we understand how stressful it can be to have a pet go missing, we are simply following the directions given to us by the City of Calgary. Should you have any questions about the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, please contact 311.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent emergency vet care in North Calgary! VCA Calgary North is a clean, professional 24/7 animal hospital. Staff are compassionate, especially during emergencies, and they offer a wide range of services—including exotic pet care. Pricing can be high, but the care is thorough and reliable when it matters most.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Monica. We're delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: My sweet baby chihuahua had gotten stung or bit by a bug while enjoying the outdoors, and had a rapid allergic reaction and her tiny face was entirely swollen in a matter of 20 minutes, I was so thankful the VCA was open and they took her in very quickly to ensure she didn’t have an anaphylactic reaction. They were extremely friendly and loving towards my dog, and patient with my obvious hysterical state. The vet took her time with explaining everything and taking any questions. After her treatment they asked us to stay longer, cost free just so my dog could be monitored. Their care and love for animals is apparent in this hospital. Thank you so much for your help everyone. You made a scary/stressful situation go as well as it possibly could!
Thank you for your review and kind words, Christina. We are so happy to hear that we could provide the care and support to you and your pup during such a stressful time. We will be sure to share your review with our team.
Expérience fantastique: Spencer was an absolute life saver!!! My dog was sprayed by a skunk at 3:40. Spencer was super helpful and got us what we needed super early in the morning. Fantastic service! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for your review and kind words. We are happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital. We will be sure to share your review with Spencer.
Expérience négative: I dislike writing poor reviews but I think this one is important. I brought my dog Koda to VCA North at 11:15 PM on June 22 after she suddenly couldn’t stand or move her back legs. We were told the wait would be 1–2 hours. She was taken in but listed as low priority, even though she was in visible distress. It wasn’t until around 2 AM—after she began having diarrhea—that she was finally examined. Dr. Erfani saw her and quickly diagnosed IVDD after a basic exam and some preliminary testing. I was told additional tests like blood work and X-rays would cost close to $2,000. I mentioned my concern that Koda might have eaten something on a walk and asked for a stool test, but the vet dismissed it, saying she was confident it was IVDD. I was sent home with several expensive medications for IVDD. By the next afternoon, Koda had fully recovered on her own, and when I called the clinic to follow up, I was advised not to give her the medication prescribed by Dr. Erfani, as it could worsen the diarrhea. Essentially, I paid a significant amount for medication my dog didn’t need and that could have made her condition worse. I was extremely disappointed by the lack of thoroughness in her diagnosis and the unwillingness to explore other, more likely causes—especially when I raised a valid concern. In this case, the issue was likely gastrointestinal, not neurological. I would recommend seeking care at a clinic where multiple causes are properly considered and due diligence is done before rushing into a diagnosis or expensive treatment. Spencer front desk human was gem!! Give him 5
Thank you for your review and feedback, Anitha. We're sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital. Your feedback will be reviewed with our team to identify areas where we can approve. Expérience fantastique: We had to rush our beautiful little Bugg to this hospital last Sunday. Due to his declining health, we had to make the gut- wrenching decision to put him to sleep. The staff at VCA provided the guidance, expertise and above all, compassion for our devastating situation. They gave us the time and opportunity to say goodbye to our little boy. When a moment changes your life forever and brings on grief, it’s the actions, kindness and gentle direction that will always be remembered and we thank VCA North for giving that to us.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Sarah. We are truly sorry for your loss, but we are happy to hear that we could provide comfort during this difficult time for you and your family.
Expérience fantastique: The health of one of our cats deteriorated pretty rapidly, and being outside regular business hours, we found this animal hospital online. After undergoing some testing, it became clear that the kindest course of action for our little pal would be putting her down. While this was an incredibly tough decision and devastating ordeal, I could not be more thankful for every staff member we interacted with that evening. The compassion, accommodation and patience they all demonstrated with us and our cat led to the most peace and closure one could hope for in a time like that. They even allowed us to bring our other cats in to hang out one last time with their buddy, all inside a cozy, private room, and they gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. I don't usually post reviews, but in this case, I really just wanted the staff to know how much of a positive impact they had on us, and the ineffable appreciation we have for their care that night.
Thank you so much for your review and kind words, Hannah. We are truly sorry for the loss of your companion, but are happy to hear that we could provide comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience négative: Brought a just 2 yr old male cat in. The cost was absolutely ludicrous. You were all for.helping the cat but as soon as you knew that the 5600.00 was not affordable the only option you gave was uthinize a healthy well cared for cat. He had bladder blockage. You said he could not go home. Had I known what I know now I would have taken him home and went to another vet in the morning. Sat in waiting room for 4.5 hrs before anyone came out. Receptionist was only concerned about invoice. You had us pushed up against a wall and mist vulnerable time. Thought you knew best but it is all about the $$$$ to you and now here we have no cat as you took 850.00 uthinized him and no pyt plan cause a person's credit decides if you get to help you pet. So sad. Asked if I wanted a.lock of hair for 850.00. And ha e a couple weeks if ashes wanted to let them know and for another 450.00 i can ha e them like WOW. I would not recommend this hospital never ever. I could go on and on but you know
Thank you for your review, Yolanda. We're very sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital. To understand how we can improve on our client experience, we would appreciate the opportunity to review your concerns to identify areas of improvement. Please contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon to discuss further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: If I could give zero stars I would. Do your research and give other places a try. The only reason we came here is because McKnight 24 hour vet is closed. And McKnight had some of the most talented and professional staff. Stay away from this place if you remotely love your animal.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Sukhchain. We are very sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
In order to appropriately address your concerns with our team and identify areas of improvement, we would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your recent visit. Please contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon to set up a time to connect. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience fantastique: Staff members are kind and very respectful. They took amazing care of our Onyx. We really appreciate how quick and diligent they are.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We're happy to hear that you and Onyx had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: From intial phone call to completion of visit, 5 star treatment. Unfortunately our baby crossed the rainbow bridge. The kindness and compassion we were shown was appreciated beyond words. All options were clearly explained. We have a big family and we were accommodated with ease. 10/10 recommend. Will repeat with our other fur babies.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Corrin. We are truly sorry for your loss, but are happy to hear that we could provide some comfort for you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience négative: They told me and the board says 1 to 2 hours wait . I waited 2 and a half hour and still no vet . They told me they will take her to the BACK to check her heart and temp. She been sitting at the Back for 2 hours!!! When she should have been in the room with me waiting and who knows they probably don't do anything at the back and still chargedyou. Ridiculous. don't go here.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Laura. We are very sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
As an Emergency Walk-in clinic, we operate on a triage basis, which can result in extended wait times for non-critical patients. At times, due to incoming emergencies, wait times may vary or change from the time initially quoted upon arrival. If we anticipate a longer wait time, our medical team will obtain vitals on a patient and make appropriate adjustments to the triage queue.
That being said, it is important that we provide an update to our clients to assure them that their pet is stable and offer to have the pet wait with the owner rather than remain in our triage area. We apologize that this was not the case and that it resulted in additional frustration for you. We assure you that your concerns will be reviewed with our team to avoid a similar experience from occurring in the future. Should you wish to discuss your concerns further, we encourage you to contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon to discuss further.
Expérience négative: Why do they charge so much? I haven't had any first hand experience, but a ton of people have told me price is outrageous. When in emergency situation, why cost an arm and a leg? That's just not right. Posting in case I ever need to go somewhere, I am very well warned not to go here
Thank you for your thoughts, Sarah. We understand that cost is an important consideration when it comes to veterinary care. With that in mind, we strive to work with our clients to provide the highest quality of medical care for their pets while working within their budget and cost restraints.
Expérience fantastique: I would like to write this as a huge thank you from my family and I. A month ago I had to come in to VCA North unexpectedly, and say goodbye to my soul dog. From that morning I had a feeling that his sudden sickness was very serious. Going in I was extremely emotional and distressed. But from the phone call, to getting to the front desk, to being in the room, to saying goodbye; the receptionist, vet tech, and Dr. Imogen was so incredibly comforting and empathetic. The receptionist (I’m sorry that I have forgotten her name but she had glasses, red short hair, and tattoos), she encouraged me over the phone, and comforted me in the room, and I could genuinely feel how much she felt for me in that moment. It is a difficult job to have to manage some of peoples worst days but it’s a job that has to be done. So I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who does it and does it with grace and kindness. I find comfort knowing that Roman got lots of pets and cuddles by lots of sweet people before his last moments and he adored that for sure Thank you again from the bottom of my heart, and the handwritten card from all the staff was beautiful Continue to lead with your hearts and use your gifts to take care of all the precious animals, as they bring a unique joy and goodness everywhere they go.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Sarah. We are so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that our team were able to provide care and compassionate to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: To everyone that works there me and wife would like to say that when are dog kia died they were the most understanding and compassionate staff that we have ever dealt with. The paw print and lock of hair was done to the highest quality. Very impressed . the young lady that works the front desk is so good at her job . 5 stars all around
Thank you for your review and kind words, Kent. We are truly sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that our team was able to provide some comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: We brought our 7-week-old Golden Retriever puppy, Luna, in for her first vaccines and were so impressed with Dr. Erfani. She was kind, patient, and clearly cared about Luna’s comfort. She answered all our questions and made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your review and kind words, Bahareh. We're so happy to hear that Luna felt comfortable and enjoyed her first visit with us.
Expérience fantastique: Had such a great experience at VCA with Dr. Erfani. From the moment we walked in, the staff were super friendly, welcoming, and caring. Dr. Erfani had such a great attitude and made sure my puppy, Luna, felt totally comfortable during her first visit. She took the time to explain all the necessary shots for Luna’s age and answered all my questions clearly. I ended up signing up for their care club, which covers all the vet visits, her spay, and a bunch of other things for the first year, definitely worth it. As a bonus, the first visit was completely free thanks to their puppy promotion. I’m super happy with the whole experience. Dr. Erfani is amazing and I highly recommend her if you’re looking for a vet who truly cares.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Homam. We are so happy to hear that you and Luna had such a positive experience with Dr. Erfani and our team.
We are delighted to have Luna and you as new clients. Thank you for trusting us to provide life long care to Luna.
Expérience négative: We do swim in A very chaotic life, I get it. Somehow people get caught up and become ...angry? I advise my staff to stay home if things are sour. Being obtuse clearly sets a negative impact on people. I also understand some people just Can't Understand Normal Thinking. Our dog was brought in by a kind person who found him. When my wife was told of him being at VCA, she drove to pick him up. For some unrealistic reason, she was rudely denied his return. My wife was told he would Not be released, and would be sent to the pound. Next day , after unanswered calls to owners and managers, wife called 311 to have the Police intervene. At which point , our pup was released. To the mean grumpy angry employee, I suggest your in the wrong line of work. I am engaging in a LOT of , no charge , advertising for this abhorrent clinic, for its lack of empathy compassion and general business practices that are grossly undermined and overlooked.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are very disappointed to hear about your most recent experience at our hospital.
We completely understand how traumatic it is to lose your pet and while we are required to adhere to City of Calgary Animal Services requests to not return stray pets brought to our facility to a potential owner, we should share this information with our clients in a professional and compassionate manner.
We assure you that we will review your feedback with our team to ensure that others who have lost their pet do not have a similar experience in the future. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon to review.
Expérience négative: The 2 blonde ladies at the front desk are rude and have 0 compassion for a distraught dog owner who's dog got out and was brought to them by a neighbour. Having your dog (a family member in most families) get out of the house and get lost is a traumatic experience and these unprofessional ladies only made it worse and brought 0 comfort to the situation. Someone needs to give them customer service training and they very clearly lack it.
Thank you for your review and feedback, DJ. We are very disappointed to hear about your most recent experience at our hospital. Expérience négative: Unprofessional, late & lack of care. First off, it is never a good sign when you are sitting in a place of business and witness the staff bad talking clients immediately after hanging up the phone. It happened more than once while I was waiting for my dog’s blood work to be completed. The staff at the front desk would make fun of and complain about clients to one another right after servicing them. I was told my dog’s blood work would be done in 15 minutes only to wait over an hour. When I approached the front desk to ask where my dog was she laughed it off and said “oh OPS we put 10PM instead of 10AM on our sign-out sheet here.” Over 15 minutes AFTER this I finally got my dog back because the staff were clearly having issues communicating and working well with one another. After receiving the wrong prescription (which was corrected) & rude service I was finally able to leave. I understand that Vets are under extreme pressure right now but this does not give anyone the right to laugh at the expense of clients. Next time you call this location, keep in mind that you are receiving a very different type of treatment behind your back.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Taegan. We are extremely disappointed to learn that this was your experience at our hospital and take your concerns very seriously. We assure you that this matter will be reviewed with our team as this is not standard of customer care we strive for at our hospital.
To ensure that we are able to address this matter in a timely and specific manner, we would appreciate the opportunity to review your experience in more detail. Please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon, to discuss further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: This vet is ultra expensive and the vets/receptionist always seem to be in a rush and rude. When I was talking to the vets and receptionist, I was cut off a lot. When I was explaining an issue to the receptionist, she cut me off a lot (I think she assumed she knew what I was going to say) and then misunderstood the problem I was trying to convey. It also costs $100 to just talk to a vet. We ended up forking out $3500 just for them to look after my cat and empty his bladder. I was then told I could see how my cat was doing after taking prescription medication or have my cat go through surgery. The vet said that surgery can have complications, so I told them I wanted to not go for surgery yet. I did research after and complications for bladder surgery is rare and most complications are due to the anesthesia. I was not informed that the complications were rare. My cat had suffered from a urinary blockage again not too long after and we went to VCA again. They said they would charge $5000 for bladder surgery and two overnight stays, which we didn't end up doing and went to another vet hospital. I went to Barlow Trail Hospital instead and they charged $1500 with no overnight stays. It cost nothing to talk to a vet at this hospital and the vet texted us everyday about my pet to check on his health. They also gave free urinary food. This vet went above and beyond and I would recommend Barlow Trail Hospital if you can go there during opening hours. The vet there also said we should keep my cat out of there as much as possible because my cat hates the vet, while VCA wanted my cat to stay longer after surgery. I called the VCA to ask about the prices of the same urinary food that I got from Barlow Trail Hospital. When I asked about the prices and I misheard her and was wondering why the prices were so high, the woman on the phone yelled at me as she corrected me on the price. She apologized in person when I went to get the food, but I still feel like this behaviour is unacceptable and rude, especially since I just went through such a hard experience with my pet. I work with clients with addictions and people on the street and I do not treat my clients this way, burnt out or not. It's incredibly unprofessional. I will say the receptionist did mean her apology and tried to make it up to me, but it still was an uncomfortable situation. I love my cat so much. Peanut Butter is a good cat and he is a smart cat that knows tricks. This was such a difficult time for me.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Connie. We are happy to hear that Peanut Butter received the surgery that he required and that he has made a full recovery.
I apologize that your most recent experience at our hospital failed to meet your expectations. While we strive to work with our clients budgetary requirements while providing appropriate medical care, we understand that other hospitals may be able to provide similar services at a lower price. We will always encourage our clients to explore other options, when appropriate.
Regarding your interactions with our team, it is our goal is to provide a compassionate and supportive environment for our clients and we are disappointed to hear that we did not achieve this during your visit. We would be happy to review your experience with you in more detail to identify areas where we can improve. Please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon to discuss further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: Not a real emergency hospital. Plan to wait. My dog was bleeding out his bum and we sat there for over an hour. Another dog who had come in before us did the same and it did appear they were going to leave when I did. Only people that went in to see a vet while we were there were those with appointments like check ups and vaccines. More of a walk in clinic than an emergency. I called Trinity while at this location, filled an intake form online and drove the 20 mins to their location. He got seen immediately by a nurse when we arrived (checked vitals etc) and within 30 mins by the vet.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Charlotte. We are sorry to hear that we failed to meet you expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
I did want to address a couple of your points to provide clarification. Firstly, Calgary North Animal Hospital is a hybrid clinic, which means that we see both emergency and primary care appointments. Each day we have doctors assigned to see emergencies and others assigned to GP.
For emergency cases, it our goal is to ensure that every patient receives timely care, however we do operate on a triage system, which means that more seriously ill or injured patients are seen before less serious ill or injured patients. Our longer wait time for emergency care is likely a result of our emergency veterinarians managing critical cases currently in our care.
That being said, cases such as excessive bleeding are considered high priority. Therefore, an RVT should have checked vitals shortly after arrival to assess your dog. I will be sure to review your case with our team to ensure that a similar situation does not occur in the future. To assist our team, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail to identify areas of improvement. Please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon to discuss your experience further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience fantastique: I brought my bunny here about a month ago, unfortunately, he crossed over. The staff was absolutely wonderful. They rushed him in and were very supportive throughout the process. They sent me a card afterward,All the staff took the time to write a caring supportive message for me in the card it meant the world to me. They truly care, and I highly recommend this place."
Thank you for your review and kind words, Priscilla. We're sorry for your loss, but are glad to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: I want to give a huge shout out to the staff here. We came in from out of town due to being the closest open emergency vet hospital, and while I had to make the terrible decision to let go of my cat, I was shown nothing but empathy and compassion. When we arrived, the staff shift change was just about to occur, and although every pet owner wants to be seen immediately for an emergency, they were honest and open about when I could expect to see someone because the incoming vet hadn't arrived yet and another emergency was in front of me. I especially appreciate the candor in which Dr. Weger approached the situation my cat was faced with, and I was never pressured to lean one way or another. Yes, payment was requested up front before proceeding, but it helped to get it out of the way so I could just be there for my cat and take the time I needed. Everything was explained to me before the procedure and I never felt rushed. I sincerely thank everyone I spoke with that day - you made a terrible day a little bit easier to bear and I have nothing but good things to say about how my cat's situation was managed.
Thank you for your review and sharing your experience. We are truly sorry for your loss, but we are happy to hear that we were able to provide comfort to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience négative: Very friendly staff. However was given a quote for porky pine removal that was 3 x the cost of the following vet clinics we visited. Just a disappointing experience and unnecessary time waste. Again, was grateful for the free consult however that discrepancy in pricing should not exist in my opinion.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Erin. We are sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
We understand that pricing is an important factor, while continuing to provide a high level of service that reflects our quality and care. That being said, we appreciate your feedback and will be sure to share them with those who are responsible for setting the prices for our services.
Expérience fantastique: Hi, I normally don't leave reviews, but today, it's been a week since my toto passed. I would like. To thank Doctor Palmer, who showed the most compassion for toto and my ? Situation. And I am most grateful to Doctor palmer and her staff. I would recommend this hospital for your pets . THANK YOU EVERONE WHO MADE THIS JOURNEY MEMORABLE FROM THE GRAHAMS.
Thank you for your review and for your kind words, Debbie. We are so sorry for your loss, but we're happy to hear that we could provide comfort to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: The doctors and staff at VCA Calgary North did an amazing job at taking care of my sick kitten, Miso. Miso was admitted to their hospital after discovering he had a horrible disease, called FIP. He was in really bad conditions when we admitted him and didn’t know if he was going to make it. The doctors started his treatment ASAP and did their best to keep my Miso alive giving him the best care. Miso’s stay ended up being a week long, and despite this experience being so so stressful and painful, his doctors made sure to ease my stress by updating me daily with lots of details about how Miso was doing and always being available if I had any questions or concerns. I was told everyone at the hospital grew to love Miso and I’m sure this was reciprocated! Miso wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for them. Will continue to do weekly check-ins as his journey is unfortunately not over, but he is getting better and better day by day! Thank you everyone!! Highly recommend this place for your pets :)
Thank you so much for your review and for the update, Alexandra. Miso is such a lovely boy. Everyone at the hospital was rooting for him and and we are all so happy to see that he is recovering.
Expérience négative: Money hungry… my Guinea pig was ill so I took her in as this was the closest vet to me.. was told it would be OVER 900$ all they wanted to do was give antibiotics, keep her overnight, and then perform blood work. The vet also mentioned that if the blood work came back with something serious they would have to “look at her quality of life” since she was a older Guinea pig and probably wouldn’t make it through treatment. So basically they wanted me to pay 900$ just for her to possibly be euthanized anyways. I’ve taken my dog in to a different vet to get blood work before + antibiotics, and it costed less then 300$ Absolutely insane!!
Thank you for your review and feedback, Jessica. We are sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital.
It is our commitment to work with our clients to provide appropriate care while being mindful of cost. We are always willing to review options that will help reduce costs or provide other options for treatment to work within our clients budget. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please contact our General Manager, Jon Punshon.
Expérience fantastique: This place has the most kind, gentle, and caring staff. I brought my hamster in a couple of times, and it was so relieving to know that there are veterinarians who actually care for the wellbeing of animals that aren’t as well understood as dogs and cats. We brought him in again when we had to let him go and they made the process so much easier for us. They could tell that we loved the little guy so dearly, and it really showed in their care for our hearts after he passed. Thank you for being so incredible❤️
Thank you for your review, Morganna. We are so sorry for your loss, but we are happy that our team was able to provide you and your family comfort during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent team of vets. Esp. thanks to Dr. Wegers,Dr. Barton management, technicians and front end staff for taking care of my sickly cat for many years and for putting up with me. Dr. Wegers has some specialized knowledge about cats that was very helpful for us. Rip to my sweet boy who i miss often. Thanks to VCA North. I've been back with my new cats and my Mom's cat, they took perfect care. If i could leave 3 more 5 star reviews, I would, thanks again, it's obvious they put your pets care first.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We are so sorry for your loss, but we are happy to hear that we were able to provide long term care and to be there during a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Had to take in my parrot last weekend and not only an amazing vet with avian experience working Sunday morning, the staff and vet techs were so amazing and helpful. They saved my parrot's life with being so available and responsive. Thank you to all the staff!
Thank you very much for your review and kind words, Brian. We are so happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit and that your parrot is recovering.
Expérience fantastique: I lost my sweet boy on New years eve 2024 It is one of the hardest things to go through and the staff here were so kind and understanding of my pain. I've gone here in the past with emergency and the care is top notch. Yes it feels a bit pricey but it is on par with other vets and your pet gets the best care, they do their best to work with what works for you. I thank the staff here for the loving care they put into my J.C. and the card I received later it was so nice. Thank you for being there that night it means the world to me and my family Amy
Thank you for your review and kind words, Amy. We are truly sorry for your loss, but we are happy to hear that we could provide some comfort to you and your family during a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Took my semi retired service dog Holly there because she was limping and the staff were beyond welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable ♥️ i had to leave my girl there for a sedated exam but she was in great hands! Since moving up north I didn't have a vet but I'm comfortable knowing that this will be my clinic of choice! Thank you for taking such good care of one of my most important family members
Thank you for your review and kind words, Megs. We are so happy to hear that you and Holly had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: Thank you to all the amazing ladies who took care of my sweet boy ! From the front desk to the drs & techs . He split his nail in half & although there was emergencies ahead of us & a long wait , they were super sweet, brought coffee & even offered to charge my phone after it died . They took care of my boy from putting him under , and waking up him . All the ladies loved him & he got all the attention lol Thank you everyone here for being so gentle and understanding that my pup was nervous & timid
Thank you for your review and kind words, Mimi. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit. We hope your pup is recovering well.
Expérience fantastique: Only had brief interactions with them but the staff seem like kind, competent people who genuinely care about both pets and pet parents. Would absolutely go here if I needed a vet in Calgary.
Thank you for your review and kind words. We are happy to hear that you had a positive during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: Wonderful group of individuals to cate for your fur babies. We choose to have this location as our base home for veterinary care. They care for needs year round and it is excellent to know they are available for emergencies if needed. 24 he care.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Tracy. We are happy to hear that you have chosen us as your veterinary clinic.
Expérience fantastique: My dog is a very anxious pup and the team at Calgary North handles her with such care. She recently had a dental procedure and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Dr. Oulette and the entire team are so kind and caring. Thank you.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Randi. We are delighted to hear that you and your pup had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience négative: I don't think anyone would go to this place if they had a choice. My dog was attacked and seriously injured but the vet was more concerned about selling me a dental package. After raising a big fuss, this vet finally got over himself and begrudgingly had another look and found several puncture marks to my dog's abdomen. I guess the bright side is that if my dog didn't survive he would have had some really clean teeth.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Jack. We're sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital. All pets arriving at our hospital are triaged and an animal attack is considered a top priority and result in immediate medical intervention.
To address your concern with the veterinarian who attended to your dog, we would appreciate the opportunity to review your experience with you in more detail. Please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon to discuss your experience further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: Called them on Sunday as my dog had ingested one of my medication pills that I accidentally dropped. We are 1 1/2 hours away from Calgary. They told me I had to call Animal Poison Control and pay them (APC) money to get a number so they could look at my dog. They said they needed this number to look at her. I called the Animal Poison Control and got a "press 1 if you're willing to pay $95 USD" I pressed 1 and was on hold for about a half hour. I hung up and drove to Red Deer where they took her right away as did not need a number from APC.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Shirley. I'm sorry that we failed to meet your expectations when you contacted our hospital. To better understand your experience and identify areas where our team can improve when dealing with similar situations, we encourage you to contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon, to discuss further. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: This place actually blew my mind with how they literally wouldn't even look at my dog who was clearly in distress, until I gave them my credit card # & it cleared for $1100, the total ended up being upwards of $1700, what happened to getting into the field to take care of animals? Also I've seen personally and heard many other horror stories and then taking people's pets due to the fact that they were unable to pay them the full amount that they were asking instead of giving people the option of a payment plan or something. In response to the response from the VCA I would like to state that I personally have witnessed how they have pressured individuals into surrendering their animals they have guilted them they have threatened them they have intimidated them into doing so, furthermore I have also personally witnessed by Law Officers either showing up at the location of the VCA or to the residence of the person who had previously had their animal in the VCA care to apprehensive animals and then the process after that which is a long horrible I'm just an unfair process for the individual whose animal has been apprehended and therefore maybe they do not have the authority to apprehend or take somebody's animal but they definitely go and the extra mile to ensure that that happens and I've seen it personally myself. What I don't understand is how they feel justified in doing so when the individual who had brought their animal into their facility to be cared for obviously cared and loved their animal their pets or they wouldn't have been there in the first place so to turn around and punish these people by taking their family member basically and then making it almost impossible for them to get it back is a pretty disgusting Act and you would think that an animal hospital would be more interested in the welfare of the animal and their owner then the money that may or may not be coming in for those who don't know the VCA is actually owned by the American SPCA otherwise known as the ASPCA and if you know anything about this organization you know this money is all they care about that's all they're interested in they don't care about your animal they don't care about you all they want is your money.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Danni. We wanted to provide some clarity on our emergency protocol. Prior to providing an estimate for treatment, a veterinarian assesses all patients. Treatment plans are reviewed with the client, who must provide a signed authorization prior to a deposit being collected. At any time, a client can opt to decline treatment and seek a second opinion from another veterinary clinic.
We make every effort to work with owners to provide appropriate care for their pet so that they can stay with their family, including working with an independent third party loan company to assist clients who are cost concerned with payment options.
Regarding our hospital taking a person's pet if a client is unable to pay the full amount, we have no legal authority to take a pet from an owner. Furthermore, VCA Canada does not accept pets as owner surrenders. If an owner choses to surrender their pet, for whatever reason and at their sole discretion, we will refer them to one of our partner animal shelters where they can discuss rehoming.
If an owner chooses to surrender their pet, it is between the animal shelter or rescue and the owner, VCA Canada neither has involvement with the decision to rehome or reunite the pet with their family nor receives any information on the pet after it has been surrendered.
In the rare occasion where the welfare of the pet is a concern, all veterinarians, regardless of whether they work for VCA Canada or another company, have a legal and ethical obligation to provide appropriate treatment options with an owner and when appropriate, report their concerns to an Animal Protection Agency. It is at the sole discretion of the appropriate agency to investigate the matter, in accordance to the Animal Protection Act, completely independent of the veterinarian, and implement the appropriate measures.
For more information on the Alberta Animal Protection Act and the authority a peace officer and police officer as it pertains to the act, we encourage you to visit the Alberta government website at alberta.ca or contact either the Calgary Humane Society or Alberta SPCA Animal Protection Services.
Finally, VCA Canada is owned by Mars Veterinary Health family of brands and has no affiliation with the American SPCA. For more information on VCA Canada, please visit our website vcacanada.com and view our About Us page.
We hope that this information is helpful and addresses your concerns. If you would like to discuss your experience further please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon, who will be happy to discuss your concerns further.
Expérience fantastique: I dunno how anyone could give them a bad review. They are expensive but you pay for what you get! Start to finish they were incredible! Front desk and doctors everyone was so caring and helpful! They help you with payment options and make everything as easy as possible with your pets care as their number one focus. They explain everything very well and try to keep the cost at only what is really needed. I have no doubt Marshmellow received the best possible care and we took him to the right place. If you are worried about your pets health and not being about to afford it doesn't matter take them in! They will help you. I cannot thank them enough. It's rare to find such great care and as someone that has a family member that runs their own veterinarian clinic in Manitoba I greatly appreciate great service. A medical emergency is always very scary! Please remember to treat the staff kindly regardless of the situation.
Thank you so much for your review and kind words, Shaylene. We are so happy to hear that Marshmellow is doing well and that we were able to provide timely and compassionate care.
Expérience fantastique: We had to bring our dog into the vet after he got into some raisins late on a Saturday night. He ended up staying for 4 nights hooked up to IV. As awful as it was to leave our dog there we felt so assured that he was receiving the best care. The vets/staff are knowledgeable, kind, personable and it felt like they genuinely cared about the well being of our dog. Thank you VCA Calgary North for helping Hank get better and easing his/our anxiety.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Claire. We are so happy to hear that Hank is doing better and that our team provided care and compassion to put you and your family at easy during a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Absolutely phenomenal, I wasn't in the area but they were the only option open at the time of need. They were knowledgeable and very helpful. Helped calm my anxieties and talked me thru potential risks and things I can do to help my cat. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your review and kind words, Malvi. We are glad we could provide such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
Expérience négative: Very very long wait time, usually over 3 hours, my friend had a wrong diagnosis for her pet, busy even after hours, extremely expensive. Just avoid them if you don't have pet insurance
Thank you for your review and feedback. As an emergency hospital that operates on a triage basis, wait times can vary depending on the number of cases in hospital and the severity of each. We try to provide accurate wait times when the patient arrives and update as changes occur.
Regarding your friend's pet receiving the wrong diagnosis, to be able to appropriately address their concerns, we recommend that they contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon, to review the case to ensure the matter is addressed accordingly. We hope to hear from her.
Expérience fantastique: Been here a couple of times. Once in 2014 for my one cat Athena due to behaviour issues where she was pulling fur off from her flanks after my sister and I initally adopted her from Petland as she was on a shelter's to-be euthanized list if it wasn't adopted after a period of time. I don't recall the vet's name from that time sadly, but he was right in his assessment in getting her a pal at home to help calm her stress and maybe help out with the behaviour issues. His analysis was pretty spot-on as we ended up getting a second cat named Apollo about a several months later. She eventually stopped this weird self-harming behaviour after we got him. Fast-forward to the time of this review which is 10 years later, it is about our second time being here for vet support. I had to revisit VCA North for our cat Apollo this time. Unfortunately, he recently was experiencing vomiting, gastro-stool blockage issues, in addition to the discovery of crystals in his kidneys and a piece that made its way to his bladder. The latter is likely from the stress on his body and what might have have been caused by a bad batch of food from Purina as our cat Athena had similar vomiting and gastro-stool issues as well around the same time. Because of the crystal in his bladder, it resulted in a lower UTI issue which was potentially life threatening. He transferred here from the other clinic we saw originally for his weird issues we were noticing as he required overnight monitoring and treatment in case it got worse. During his stay here, the original crystal had either dissolved or passed through his catheter, however, another crystal unfortunately made its way down the one ureter and lodged its way near the entrance port of his bladder, which was pretty scary. Thankfully, it eventually unlodged and exited as well. Having said all that, Apollo made it back home with us after everything looked good. All in all, I can say the staff here are really great and caring. In regards to my cat Apollo's issues, Dr. Barton, Amanda, Randy, and the rest of the team provided phenomenal support and updates about him throughout his stays here and post-discharge. While I cannot comment on other reviewers giving VCA clinics flack for their costs and what some might consider upselling services, what I can say is this specific location's staff provided the immense support and care to ensure they could do the best they could for my cat Apollo recently and Athena way back. I really appreciated Dr. Barton's non-invasive attempts for my cat as he really tried ways to ensure his bladder crystal problem could be resolved without going through the painful and expensive routes. Bladder and kidney surgeries are pretty complex from my understanding with him through our calls. I am very thankful for the hospital's services and assistance as it can be pretty nerve-wrecking in emergency situations for our fur pals. Emergency care is definitely costly for our pets and every persons financial situations vary. However, I cannot emphasize enough to please consider pet insurance if you have not yet already. It will help in times like mine where costs can add-up fast. For instance, if your pet needs to stay quite a few nights or complexities arise. Pet insurance can help offset quite a bit or all of it depending on the tier level you sign-up for with the providers. It might seem like a weird expense month-to-month, but it really does come in handy for times where your fur buddy needs adequate care for major-unexpected issues, particularly ones that are life threatening too. Thank you for everything! Really grateful to have Apollo back home and the care you all gave him. You all saved his life, so we cannot thank everyone here enough. While it has been a couple of days since his discharge, we were luckily able to get him to slowly eat the new recommended diet to help prevent-stop blockages and fight against crystals in his body. We'll also make sure to bring him back to see Dr, Barton or our other vets we normally see for follow-up to ensure he is on the right path to recovery.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We will be sure to share your review with our team. Anthony. We are happy to hear that Apollo is doing well and is recovering.
Expérience fantastique: From the emergency phone call with the receptionist, to the moment we left the hospital, the service was exceptional. The staff were very quick to help our senior dog, and the Veterinarian who was available was amazing to talk with and provided us with a diagnosis we were not expecting. He was so empathetic to our situation and treated our sweet boy like his own. In a time of grief, the staff were also very empathetic and didn't rush us when we said goodbye. When it was time to pick up his ashes, the amount of care and love that went into it, I will forever be grateful for. The little 'extras' that went into our experience may have been minor for them, but they didn't go unnoticed by our family. Thank you for providing our sweet boy with comfort and love before his passing, our family is so thankful ❤️
Thank you for your review and kind words, Rosenne. We are so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that we could provide comfort to you and your family during such a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: If I could award more stars to VCA Animal Hospital, I genuinely would! This veterinary clinic is staffed with incredibly friendly and dedicated professionals who truly care for animals. Although their services might come at a higher price point, the quality of care they provide is absolutely invaluable—especially during emergencies involving your beloved pets. I have to commend the vet techs, who are not only skilled but also exceptionally kind-hearted. I recall a humorous moment when my cat, Henry, almost startled one of the techs by licking her. She mentioned that it was a first for her in her job, as she had never been licked by an animal before! Recently, we faced a frightening situation when our kitten fell from a height of 10 feet off a railing. The team at VCA Animal Hospital went above and beyond to ensure he received the best possible care. They treated him with such warmth and compassion, making it clear that he was treated as part of their own family. Throughout this stressful ordeal, they also took the time to make sure we were comfortable. They generously offered my mom a cup of coffee and allowed me to use a charger, which was greatly appreciated during that late-night visit. In addition to their excellent emergency care, the wellness checkups at VCA Animal Hospital are simply amazing. During these visits, they provide free deworming and parasite control, which is a huge benefit for pet owners. They also give you a comprehensive book to help you keep track of your pet's vaccinations and a folder filled with essential information to ensure you have everything you need to care for your furry friend. Plus, they offer a spay and neuter program that helps promote responsible pet ownership. Furthermore, they were very accommodating when it came to payment, allowing me to split the transactions due to the tap limit. The level of understanding and professionalism exhibited by the staff truly made a significant difference during our time of need. If you are searching for a veterinary clinic that treats both pets and their human companions with the utmost care and respect, I wholeheartedly recommend VCA Animal Hospital. You will find a team that is committed to providing exceptional service and support for all your pet care needs.
Thank you for your review, Midnite. We're happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit.
Expérience fantastique: My dog needed to be put down due to organ failure. He was not a patient, but due to it being a long weekend, out regular vet was closed. The staff welcomed us with kindness and compassion. They had a comfort room which made the process of saying goodbye feel less "sterile". I cannot review the hospital on regular care, but their compassion and kindness gave them a five stars.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Nikki. We are sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that our team could provide you comfort and support during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: I recently took my cat here twice as he was having urinary tract problems. The staff and doctors were very helpful and the pricing is reasonable compared to other emergency hospitals. I had also taken my 18 year old cat here when it was time, and they handled it with kindness and respect. I would definitely recommend for emergency services in north Calgary.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Marcy. We are happy to hear that you have had such a positive experience at our hospital.
Expérience fantastique: Our dog buddy passed away at the age of 15 on august 31st and we brought him in late that evening. The staff were very good and kind. I can't say enough about how awesome they were during our loss. They even had all the staff write on a card and sent it to our home which was very kind. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with animals.
Thank you very much for your review and kind words, Steve. We are happy to hear that our team was able to provide care and compassionate to you and your family during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: If I could give this vet clinic a star for every time we've said how much we appreciate them, it would be a hundred star review. Our boy was attacked at his daycare and brought here by Bylaw with some pretty serious injuries, and the care and dedication shown to him has been phenomenal. The staff here have been wonderful in every interaction, and really show how much they care for the animals they look after. In particular, Dr. Amy has gone far above and beyond to make sure that our dog not only recovers, but thrives. When we've taken him to other vets, he's his usual friendly self, but is a bit nervous and shaky. Here, even after the painful incident that brought him to their care, he's full of tail wags and kisses, because he knows these people care about him and make him feel safe. While we've been satisfied with our current vet, the outstanding care and support provided by VCA North means we'll be transferring his regular care to them going forward. I cannot recommend this vet enough, and while the situation that brought us to them has been rough, they have been empathetic, responsive, caring, and always available for us and our dog. We can't thank them enough.
Thank you for your review and kind words, Trevor. We are happy to hear that you had such a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital. We hope your body is recovering well and that we were able to provide care and compassion during a difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Thank you for taking care of our dog that got out of the yard. Was definitely upset that I wasn't able to pick her up directly from you. But thank full to have her home .
Thank you for your review and feedback, Chris. We wanted to provide some clarification on the direction the City of Calgary Animal Services has given our hospital in regards to returning animals found at large that are brought to our facility:
'The Responsible Pet Ownership bylaw states that a citizen can bring an at large animal to a vet clinic for safekeeping however all animals will be brought to Animal Services to be redeemed by the owner.'
While we appreciate that this may be very frustrating, our team is simply adhering to the rules set forth by the City of Calgary. We encourage you to direct your concerns regarding the Responsible Pet Ownership bylaw and the city of Calgary's return to owner policy to 311.
Expérience fantastique: Words cannot describe how grateful I am for Dr. Amy, Dr. Barton, Leanne, and all the other wonderful staff at this clinic who worked tirelessly to save my rabbit when she arrived in critical condition. Their knowledge, dedication, and care saved her life. They were also infinitely patient and compassionate towards me (who was an emotional mess the entire time). Very reasonable and transparent with their costs. I wish I could thank you guys enough!
Thank you for your review and kind words, Kaylee. We will be sure to share your comments with Dr. Amy, Dr. Barton, Leanne and the rest of our team. We are so happy to hear that Bun is doing well. She's a lovely girl and I know that all the staff were very invested in her care.
Expérience négative: I brought my French bulldog in. Because I felt there was something wrong with her face. She was wincing a lot burrying her face into bedding, couch, etc. I thought my puppy pug jumped or bit her and I really wasn't sure what was going on. After 4 hours, they said it was a minor ear infection. It was an hour, wait, no problem. They took her in, said they would take her back for vitals. That was an hour and 15 minutes. I checked at the desk, turned out she wasn't even looked at yet. That angered me, few mins later, the vet came out, she said. She examined her, it's was an ear infection, it's not "brewing". After $425? It wasnt the major issue. Took her to my regular vet at district. The vet felt due to rough play, she must have banged her head, causing sensitivity, , said that she had a back injury and put her on medications. That was $135. Complete and thorough exam in front of me! And I believe that was the problem. Also, I was told they, North, were gonna check up on her they never did, ever. All I received was an email with the invoice that I paid. Ill never go there again. Got frequent texts from District seeing how she is.
Thank you for your review and feedback, Bunny. We are very sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during and after your visit to our hospital. We will be reviewing your concerns with our team as from your review, there are clearly areas where improvement is needed.
Expérience positive: Had a not so good experience with the vet and the tech. My cat was struggling to pee, I was worried he was blocked. Turns out he has some bladder inflammation and they were wonderful with him. I just think their bedside manners could use some work. You would think when a young lady is bawling their eyes out in front of them they would be kind, nope, I was basically called a bad pet parent not doing enough for my cat. If you dont mind being berated and being told that a cat still needs to eat, so get him the special expensive food. And you are a bad cat mom. Go here
Thank you for your review and feedback, Jade. We are sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations during your most recent visit to our hospital. Our goal is to constantly improve and we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your concerns in more detail. Please contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon, to share more details of your experience so that we can review specifics with our team.
Expérience positive: This company saved my young cat's life in 2016, for which I will be eternally grateful. The staff care deeply about their patients and respect their human clients. The vets are skilled, and the hospitals have substantial resources to treat animals with. However, VCA is a multinational corporation that was founded by US healthcare execs in the 80s and purchased by Mars, Inc. in 2017 for $9B. The local clinics are inescapably under pressure to present yearly increases in revenue. The only ways to accomplish that are to reduce staffing, to keep increasing fees, and to recommend more medical services or more expensive ones than are needed. Basically, to mimic US healthcare. I want to emphasize; these are not quacks. The treatments they offer are vital, necessary, and worth doing. They're open when a pet is dying at 3am. But the cost to the human clients in dollars is almost always 50% higher than elsewhere, and it can be four or five times higher. By all means, use VCA when there is an emergency, if your regular vet is not available. I have, multiple times, and have never regretted it. These people care and will apply medical science to save your loved ones. But their owners don't care, and they increasingly force the clinic to take as much money from you as possible.
Thank you for your review, Tyler. We did want to provide some clarity on your last point. Our DVMs are free to practice medicine and provide appropriate treatment and diagnostics based on their own assessments, free from any pressure from VCA leadership. Our doctors are respectful of and will work within our clients budget to provide the best treatment possible and will only recommend treatments or diagnostics that are medically appropriate.
Expérience négative: I’ve had a bad experience here in the past but recently had to go in as dog ate something and was puking blood. Was actually good experience and not too pricey. This same dog had had multiple health things going on recently. Over a long weekend he was having a flare and was doing weird positions due to pain so brought him in. Cost small fortune which I know it is what it is they have no information on him and need tests to figure things out. The problem for me is needing to sedate my dog for X-rays. This had never been done before and really not necessary this dog is 10 pounds and everytime we go to the vet they tell us he’s so good and does everything they ask of him. My personal vet also stated for sure was not necessary for the X-ray views they were taking. They said they would reverse the sedation and I could pick him up at 6:30pm. They call at 6:30 and say 7:30 and then 9:30 by the time I got there and got him it’s 10pm. I’m already thinking to myself they messed up there’s no way it should take this long. It was nice a vet did talk to me about it and it wasn’t the vet who administered things she tried to blame it on him having a possible heart murmur and asking if he has had problems with sedation before. He’s never had problems with sedation or anaesthesia before and received twice. My vet checked for a heart murmur which he doesn’t have. Reading in between the lines my vet said it looks like they basically overdosed him and then from the notes were panicking abit as his heart rate dropped a lot. So basically if things had went badly could have killed my dog sedating him for a X-ray he didn’t need sedation for. Picked him up at 10 pm soaked in his own piss. Joke clinic my vet recommended locally owned 24hr vet clinics stay away from VCA money hungry and obviously hiring incompetent veterinarians.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience during your most recent visit to our hospital.
We did want to provide some clarification regarding our sedation protocol. It is standard practice at our VCA clinics for all our patients requiring x-ray’s to be sedated, as it allows us to practice hands-free x-ray techniques, which can eliminate the need for staff to restrain pets during the imaging process. The hands free process greatly improves radiation safety while still providing quality care for our patients. Our team is required to review our sedation process for taking x-ray’s and must receive the owner’s consent prior to proceeding with imaging.
Regarding your concerns about the discharge time and a potential overdose, we do take these matters very seriously and will look into the matter further. However, to be able to provide more specific feedback to our team about your particular case, we would appreciate the opportunity to review the matter with you further. Please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon, to discuss your experience in more detail. We hope to hear from you.
Expérience négative: I called the emergency centre on a Saturday morning to ask about bringing in my dying pet as most vets weren’t open and after telling them that it’s an emergency and I need info as fast as possible I was then put on hold for 15 minutes . when the hold ended I was given conflicting prices for the service of my pet and no clear info and I was continually upsold the whole time, while in the process of holding my dying pet . The front desk staff was unprofessional and had no sympathy. I was told I would have to spend a minimum of $500 for them to tell me my pet was dying before they would do anything. I’m very disappointed that this hospital uses your grief to try to sell you extra services. Sad and shameful
Thank you for your review and feedback, Ryan. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and to hear of your pets passing. We strive to provide empathetic and timely support to all clients and their pets. To hear that you felt that we did not prioritize your pets welfare is very disheartening and I assure you that the matter will be reviewed with our team. If you would like to provide additional information, which could help us to review the matter with our team, please contact our Interim General Manager, Jon Punshon.
Expérience fantastique: I have had two excellent experiences here with Dr. Tijon and Dr. Duong, as well as all of the techs I've encountered who have been nothing but patient, caring and humorous with my very emotional pup. Both times I've come here were for emergency appointments. They were extremely thorough and analytical with medical history, diagnosis and follow-up care.
We understand how stressful emergency appointments can be, so we're thrilled that we could provide a positive experience for you and your furry family member. Your trust and appreciation mean the world to us. If you ever need anything in the future, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Expérience fantastique: Thank you so much for your help! My Maltese Blonde got sick and my family was desperate. She is our family member and it was important to us that she was healthy and happy. Doctors are just magicians. If before the visit the dog cried and shook from pain, then immediately after it instantly fell asleep, and in the morning it tried to eat and play. Today she is back in every nook and cranny of the house and makes us play with her. The treatment helped. Thanks again.
Thank you for your review, Olha. We are very happy to hear Blonde is doing better and that you had a positive experience during your most recent visit.
Expérience fantastique: I brought in my 18 years old dachshund boy in the middle of the night as he as having a seizure and unfortunately it was time to also say goodbye to him. The team was swift and extremely compassionate in taking care of his passing and me being an absolute mess. They provided us with beautifully decorated, quiet and very private room to have a proper good-bye to our best friend. Now a couple of weeks have gone by and I got a sympathy card in the mail hand signed by multiple team members from the hospital!
Thank you for your review, Le. We are very sorry for your loss, but we are happy to hear that our team was able to provide some comfort to you during this difficult time.
Expérience négative: Do not take wildlife animal here, they are not nice, So just now i took magpie which was injured and not able to stand. And when i called back after 30 mins they said he did not make it. I had that poor bird for couple of hours and felt he was getting better but i am sure these guys killed that lil one so they did not have to call wildlife volunteer. On phone, the lady was rude. One of the girls at the front was nice who gave me form. The other girl was very rude as well.
Thank you for your review, Shuchi. We wanted to provide some clarity regarding our policy for wildlife admissions. All injured wildlife that are brought to our hospital are assessed by a medical professional. Only in rare cases and often due to severe injury, would we humanely euthanize a wild animal, to end its suffering. Otherwise, the animal is housed and provided appropriate care until a volunteer from a wildlife rehabilitation centre can transport it to the appropriate facility.
At no point, would a wild animal be euthanized while in our care so we "did not have to call a wildlife volunteer"
Regarding your comment about our receptionist being rude on the phone, we will look into this matter further and address your concerns with them as we strive to provide our clients with a positive experience. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact our Assistant General Manager, Jon Punshon.
Expérience fantastique: I don’t go out of my way to write reviews often but we have had the best experiend with Dr. Barton at this vet clinic, hands down the best vet we have met. An unfortunate event happened with our dog Kilo a month back which resulted in him having an emergency surgery to save his life. Kilo was under the care of Dr. Barton for a few days while he was at this location recovering. Dr. Barton's kind and compassionate nature is evident when you speak with him and the care he provided to Kilo was above and beyond. We can't thank you enough for all you have done with looking after Kilo and giving him more time with us.
Thank you so much for your review, Marissa. We will be sure to pass on your kind words to Dr. Barton and the team. Kilo is an absolutely lovely fellow and the entire team is so happy to see he has recovered and is doing well.
Expérience fantastique: I’ve been to several vets in the last decade. I’m biased towards them and find lots are vultures that prey on vulnerable owners. The ladies at this clinic are the exact opposite. They are nothing short of Angels. They actually GENUINELY care. These ladies are the most compassionate, caring, understanding caregivers I’ve ever encountered. I cannot thank them enough. They made the hardest day of my life as easy as possible, they are Angels. People don’t think about how they deal with physically putting someone’s pet down and go into work the next day knowing they may have to again. Ans they show up to care for our pets. I cannot express enough appreciation for what they do. Thank you staff at VCA North.
