Fantastic experience: My new puppy Levi loved his first visit to James Bay Vet last week. He went for his vaccines. He was pampered, fawned over, and even though he was poked with a needle he didn't want to leave.

Fantastic experience: Such great and friendly people, Kate was incredibly helpful in getting us the right food for our dog Cowboy and even called me back when I made a mistake with the order. Very organized and responsive, 5 stars.

Fantastic experience: I took my dog in for an emergency without an appointment, and we were warmly welcomed. All the staff made time to treat my dog. The doctor's explanation was very sincere and clear, and my concerns were resolved thanks to his empathy and clear explanation.

They are caring, compassionate professionals and always make our little anxious cat Eddie, feel less anxious. Dr Hunt has a way with animals that make them feel safe, comfortable and you can tell he really cares about his little patients.He and his team are truly wonderful. Dr. Hunt brings a lot of passion and care to every appointment, always taking the time to listen and make sure you fully understand your pet’s health. The whole team is warm and supportive, making you and your pet feel right at home from the moment you step in. They clearly love what they do and it shows in how attentive and kind they are. If you want a vet who genuinely cares and a team that makes visits easy and comfortable, this is the place to go.

While they continue to pursue growth, they are navigating a softer market, with reports of tightened acquisition strategies and pressures from high debt-to-EBITDA ratios. […] The company's focus remains on managing the integration of acquired clinics to improve profitability while managing significant debt levels.“ I feel so sorry for the staff and the pets being taken there. This is devastating.

Negative experience: I’ve been bringing my dog to James Bay Vet for several years, and while routine visits were fine, my recent experience has made me reconsider. When my dog needed emergency care, I was turned away and told to look elsewhere. If you’re choosing a vet, I’d recommend making sure they have the capacity to help during emergencies and can handle more complex procedures. It’s worth asking these questions upfront so you’re not left scrambling when your pet needs urgent help.

Fantastic experience: Been going there with my boxer girl since she was a puppy, she is almost 6. Quality of service is always consistent, the staff at the front desk are all amazing, especially Kayt. She has helped me out in a few occasions that saved my day! My girl usually sees Doctor Kevin Hunt and he is one of the most down to earth guy I have met in this Industry. I felt lucky to have found this place for my fur baby!

Fantastic experience: The clinic is close by, the staff are friendly, and communication is clear. We have had experiences with less than friendly or indifferent staff (a big issue when a cat is stressed out) and the perception of being upsold. This did not happen. The attending vet was super professional and attentive. So, we will be back and I would certainly recommend the clinic.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had such a positive experience with James Bay Vet Clinic. They took wonderful care of my puppy Canella during her spay surgery and kept me updated throughout the day so I wouldn’t be worried. They’ve also treated my cat Onyx, and every time I’ve been impressed with how patient, kind, and informative the staff are. It’s clear they truly care, and I always feel confident knowing my pets are getting the best care here. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Everyone in this vet clinic cares, no matter how big or small the issue is, I bring Lita here for all her annual checks and when I call or even show up in a panic whether its to just ask a question everyone here wants to help and will make sure Lita gets all the care she needs and all my questions answered. Fantastic experience: I was extremely satisfied with the care my pet got. Everyone, especially the vet was very caring. My pet is 18 and needed sedation to be treated. The outcome was questionable, but she came through the procedure. Follow up was also terrific. I highly recommend this clinic.

Fantastic experience: The staff at James Bay Veterinary Clinic are very helpful and very friendly. They carry my pet's food (veterinary diet). On a recent visit for my dog she needed nails & dew claws trimmed plus glands emptied. The process was quick & painless.

Fantastic experience: Kitty got in a little scrap and wasn't feeling well with an abscess forming fast. We go to a different clinic but they couldn't see us for a week, James Bay Vet got us in the same day and provided great care. Very understanding and calm staff, everyone was fantastic. This will be my cat's vet from now on.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hunt (who Abby clearly liked) listened to my concerns and asked the kind of questions that explained the issue I was having with her in a way that never felt rushed. He also detected two other issues immediately, one that we will monitor and one that I am treating. I left with confidence that Abby is in good health and her minor issues are being, or if need be, will be taken care of. I usually buy her food from the clinic, so am also familiar with the staff, who are all lovely people to deal with.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend the team at the James Bay Vet Clinic. My cat Prince gets the royal treatment during his annual check-up and nail clip. He is very relaxed there which means I am too!!

Negative experience: My puppy was suffering from chronic gastrointestinal issues since I brought him home at 8weeks caused by Clostridium Perfringens bacteria (confirmed by a stool sample test). The particular bacteria can be quite severe when dealing with it chronically untreated, especially because he was so young. He was prescribed antibiotics over email by another vet, which helped, but after the antibiotics he started having issues again. After researching (peer reviewed veterinary journal articles), it was apparent the dose he was given was too low for his current weight (he was a fast growing puppy and the antibiotics were prescribed based on a weight from his last visit months prior). I went to James Bay bet clinic to explain my puppy’s situation. I explained that the antibiotics worked while he was on them, but that symptoms started appearing again shortly after stopping, and that I had researched to find out that higher doses of antibiotics are often required to get rid of the stubborn strain of bacteria and that his previous dose seemed low and was ineffective, especially considering they never asked for an updated weight for my puppy when calculating a dose. The vet told me I probably researched the wrong type of bacteria and that there was nothing wrong with the previous dose. I felt extremely invalidated as an advocate for my puppy who had already tested positive for this bacteria (which they could see on his file) and felt gaslit because I definitely did not research “the wrong bacteria”. She then told me it was most likely allergies from food or fleas (which he definitely did not have) and pushed a bunch of flea medication and their expensive prescription food. I paid hundreds of dollars for my visit. The vet clinic continued to call me and leave voicemails suggesting their expensive prescription food. I ended up taking my puppy to a different vet clinic who prescribed me a higher/accurate dose of antibiotics for his weight, and he is now over a year old and has not had a single gastrointestinal issue since. Overall, the vet made me feel very gaslit and I feel they were all for profit suggesting prescriptions for medications he did not need and recommending expensive foods that they profit from that he would “need to be on for life to deal with his allergies”. Will never take a pet here again.

Negative experience: If you travel with your pet and need just prescription to be refill- this clinic is not for you. Unless you register your pet ,get pet tested - which means PAY.What animal lovers will refuse to help your pet by selling medication your pet need? Even copy of prescription from your Vet wouldn't help talking to crew in this clinic. In another clinic at least they took quick look on prescription I was showing and advised me to go to Pharmacy where we got medication for my pet with no problem at all.I would like to ask : what happened to the traditional English generosity in this city?

Fantastic experience: After being a very happy client for four years of Dr. Pemble and Dr. Benloulou, I was very pleased with the care provided by Dr. Jeff Dand. He listened with intent to my concerns of pain for my 11 year old Springer Spaniel, reviewed her history of urinary issues, allergies, diet, and recent medications. He provided a thorough examination and suggested a conservative approach, providing options on both tests and treatments. We then talked about different options for pain control to keep my dog free from pain, active, and comfortable. Other staff members, Sam and Anita, were professional and helpful, as always. Fantastic experience: The experience we had here was extremely positive, even though this is not our veterinary clinic. We called on a Saturday because we found 3 ticks on our puppy’s eyelid. They told us to come in immediately, and were so gentle with our puppy as they removed the ticks. It took less than an hour from our initial phone call to a tick free puppy, and they didn’t charge us anything. Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience: Vet tech was able to exam our dog Winnie straight away when a groomer inadvertently cut her tongue and she was bleeding quite a bit.

Fantastic experience: All of the staff were friendly and highly accommodating to my very anxious dog. I was very pleased with how they accepted her nervous demeanor without any prejudice and allowed her the space with great patience and respect. They were able to treat her ear infection with the proper meds and provide us with thorough information for aftercare. This was our most positive experience with any vet clinic in the Greater Victoria area!

Fantastic experience: Last year, Benny went through some really tough times that affected not only his health, but also took a toll on me and my partner mentally—it was our first time seeing Benny this ill. We were devastated and struggled to find a vet who could help us during our time of need. But James Bay Vet was there all along. They told us to come in as soon as possible when we felt he needed medical care, explained everything we needed to know about his condition, and made us feel much more at ease knowing Benny was in good hands. I highly recommend James Bay Vet to anyone looking for a reliable and compassionate veterinary clinic.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hunt is super knowledgeable, kind, caring, and patient (with us, and our kitty!) Staff and technicians are helpful, friendly, and skilled; this is an A+ veterinary facility.

Fantastic experience: Can't say enough good things about this clinic. We've been taking our rescue here since we moved to Victoria in January 2019. Despite some less positive reviews from 2017, we took our Brody there with the convenience of the location and don't regret it all. In fact, we're very happy with the service from all staff who genuinely and sincerely care for the patients. Each staff member greet each owner and pet like a good friend or family member. Dr. Hagerty is very kind and patient with our nervous dog. We're more than happy to pay the going rate so our dog gets the attention he deserves, no rushing the dog to be examined or treated and owners are well informed of the diagnosis and treatment protocol and questions happily answered. Our dog recently had surgery at the Cadboro clinic by Dr. Hagerty and the staff there, some who also work at James Bay are stellar as well. If you don't want your dog to associate a clinic with only exams, take them in occasionally just for the treats at the front desk to create a positive association. I wanted to add to my review. We moved back to Vancouver in 2020 and lamented we had access to the same quality of care and service, especially how Brody could be handled so easily by Dr. Hagerty. Our Brody is gone now and we returned to Victoria Nov 2024. With our new rescue Shandy (pictured in the photo), it was a no brainer to have her be cared for at James Bay Vet. She was initially unsure but like Brody, we bring her often just to visit and feel more confident and comfortable. She now gets excited to visit the front desk staff, Kayt, Bev, Britta and Jess and oh so happy to wiggle with joy and give out kisses. She's even become more comfortable visiting the technicians, vet assistants and vets. She has seen Dr. Hunt, Dr. Ellingson and most recently Dr. Turecki. Everyone is kind, caring, patient and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Rachel is the best. Although my dog doesn’t necessarily love her time there, I enjoy her annual visits and appreciate all the care and attention she receives while there.

Fantastic experience: I had to bring my cat here last minute as my other vet was closed. All the staff were so caring, friendly and kind, which made the whole experience much less stressful. They fit me in straight away and were very quickly able to examine my cat and let me know what was happening. Our loss of him came upon us so quickly, but having James Bay Vet there for us had been exemplary. Dr. Rachel T and the staff at James bay vet went above and beyond. Fantastic experience: It has been an absolute pleasure working with James Bay Vet to help my kitty with his dental procedure. Fantastic experience: I'm so grateful for Dr. Hunt and everyone at James Bay Vet. I found the clinic after my previous veterinarian failed to diagnose my kitty with cancer. Dr. Hunt's diagnosis was the worst news, but it was the answer I needed to move forward and ensure my cat lived out his last months in the best way possible. The clinic provided palliative care options and connected me with a lovely doctor who does at-home euthanasia (truly a gift). I can't thank the staff enough for the professionalism and compassion they showed me. And if cost is a factor, the clinic is very reasonable.

Unlike many other clinics where you’re waiting 2+ weeks to be seen, this place really understands the importance of timely care. They’re also incredibly accommodating when it comes to working within budget, which is such a relief during stressful times. They don't guilt you or make you feel bad. Fantastic experience: First time client at James Bay Veterinary Clinic. I brought my cat in to be microchipped to the clinic. I walked her there in a carrier and got there ahead of my appointnent. They were kind enough to take her early and the vet was simply lovely with her. In fact, all the ladies were wonderful. They made me feel well-taken care of. I would highly recommend this clinic to any one. My Molly was purring non-stop, so if she can endorse this clinic, so can I!

Negative experience: Beware this practice. In July they gave me an estimate for one of my dog’s dental work. Over $3700 for one small chihuahua. Plus $126 for the consultation. So instead I went to a vet in Regina while visiting family this summer and they charged me $1878.15 for scaling and extractions and medications and canned food for my TWO chihuahuas. Total. No cost for the consultation. Not one but two dogs. What is wrong in BC?

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hunt saw our cats for an annual checkup and he was the best vet I encountered yet! He was very patient and kind, made sure to explain everything he was checking for and made me feel like he was taking his time with the cats. Really appreciate him and everyone at this clinic.

Fantastic experience: Awesome clinic. Been bringing my dog here for regular checkups for years. Have had a couple emergencies with him, and they don’t hesitate to make room. The front desk staff are super lovely and always good about recommending visits to emergency clinic elsewhere if needed, even though it’s not necessarily profitable for their business, they truly care about making sure your animal is looked after ASAP. With animals it may take a couple visits to figure out what the issue is, just be patient and listen to the doctors and read what you can online. Never had any issues, sometimes just need to try a few different meds / tests which can cost a bit and be frustrating but they are very transparent about everything. All 5 doctors I’ve interacted with here over the years genuinely cared and always followed up. One oral surgery that my dog had was done very efficiently and successfully and with sensitivity to cost and pain. They’re also super responsive with sending documents (vaccines etc) to email if you need them for any reason which has been very helpful. Will keep coming back here and keep recommending to my friends. Whiskey had his 13th birthday this year and is healthy and happy and loves all the staff.

Fantastic experience: Took my son’s dog to get pain control for arthritis and was so pleased with the front desk staff, the vet assistant Avery and Dr. Rachel Turecki. They all clearly loved their jobs and treated our dog Argo and myself with great kindness, were thorough, knowledgeable and empathetic. I’m glad Argo is now a patient at James Bay Vet Clinic. Also, the app that we are able to use to see Argo’s history, meds. and med. reminders, and book appointments through is great!! It makes caring for Argo much easier!

Fantastic experience: Our dog needed urgent vet care while we were visiting from the US. James Bay was able to see her within 4 hours of my phone call. The vet, Dr. Bartlett, was superb. All of the staff was superb. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable, professional, caring, prompt, courteous, and patient. Everyone handled our dog with great care and sensitivity. The diagnosis and treatment were based on thorough examination, and she has recovered quickly and with minimum drama. I am SO impressed by this clinic; I highly highly recommend them, and Dr. Bartlett specifically. Thank you, James Bay VC!!

Fantastic experience: It was amazing experience in B.C. I was on a short trip from Seattle with my little chihuahua, His pows got caught in escalators and had bloody injury in a department store. I was in panic but a dog friendly kind lady took me to this vet clinic together taking a bus.it was about 5-10min ride. All staff were so kind and immediately looked and treated him as an urgent matter. They explained each processes need to be done very well to me, and I didn't have to wait at all for the first evaluation. He needed stitches between his nails and pows. When I saw the estimate, I felt I could trust this clinic, and I was right. We travelers were treated in a best care and everything went so smoothly. Thank you for all the staff and this lady who took me to this James Bay Veterinary Clinic. I would like to come back to this clinic again if time allows from Seattle. Probably less expensive than most vets in Seattle, too.

Fantastic experience: The Front Line staff have always been generous & accommodating, always a pleasure to deal with! Dr. Hunt who cares for Bella is clearly well educated but also possess a gentle manner and tone, which we are both greatful for! Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful experience at JBV. They got us in to see the vet within a few hours of calling, and provided excellent care to our pup. We were given options for next steps that were thoroughly explained. They also called a few days later to check in on our pup and make sure she was doing well. We are so happy that JBV will be our new vet going forward, and have no doubt our girl is in the best hands!
