Fantastic experience: Dr Harry and the team are so caring and professional. They literally saved my dogs life with an emergency surgery and I can’t thank them enough for their service. You can really trust them with your pets as they go above and beyond to ensure they are happy and healthy.

Negative experience: Good or bad people, their decision making cannot be trusted. Dr. Harry administered far too many procedures on my cat in far too short of a period of time. I made my appointment to specifically treat a cat cold and nothing else. I did not consent to the laundry list of procedures he administered. My cat was urinating, vomiting, and defecating 30 seconds after these procedures. He could not walk on his own when we got home. His legs would slide out sideways and he would land on his chest. It was a devastating site. He could do everything else on his own before the vet visit. I went there to treat a cat cold. I knew he had a maximum of 6 months left, so why would I agree to all these treatments? I called Dr. Harry with my concerns shortly after and he said, word for word, "I'll give you the best price in town - 1/2 price euthanizatio. I hung up the phone immediately. I just wanted him to spend his last days surrounded by love in his comfortable space. I had to put him down 2 weeks later after my nursing back to health efforts fell short :( you don't administer this many procedures at once to a senior person never mind a senior cat. Avoid Hemlock Animal Hospital or any of Dr. Harry's associated pet care businesses. Even though they claim that I verbally agreed to these procedures (and I disagree), shouldn't they warn regarding the potential side effects?? If you do this, your animal might not make it etc. No, it's about getting maximum money. They are absolute liars. I never threatened anyone. I took them to court instead. These people just say anything. DO NOT TRUST THIS VETERINARY CLINIC. THERE ARE FAR BETTER OPTIONS NEARBY. STAY FAR AWAY.

He was considerate, calm, and caring, and clearly explained what he would be doing, and what Simon would be experiencing. It was an extremely sad evening, but Dr. Harry made it slightly more manageable.

Negative experience: Booked my 2 dogs for a BOAS fit to fly exam a week ago. I got 2 different calls today asking if we can reschedule for later both times, which i said OK too. Fast forward 5 min before my appointment time (i drove in traffic from coquitlam-Van on a friday for this) to get a call apologizing and letting me know they're busy and to come back tomorrow! Not even a discount offered for the time and gas wasted which prob would've made me come back but now i'm here writing this negative review instead. Unreliable, unprofessional I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Negative experience: Took my puppy Pomeranian here for a reoccurring digestive issue. They ended up shaving her bum aera due to vet recommendations.. big mistake. My VERY WELL BEHAVED baby has been whining for 24hrs straight. She is terrified of being picked up, which is extremely unusual for this breed as they usually love it. She is ferociously guarding her right paw and crying and spinning around trying to soothe herself. Mistakes happen I get it, OWN UP TO IT! They denied every single claim and said nothing happened. My baby is very used to grooming, we gave her a bath every 2 days for a month when we first got her (she had a skin condition). She has not been herself since coming here. She cannot control her feces anymore and won’t play with her best friends at the park. I will be contacting the board. I’m getting a second opinion from another vet today.

Fantastic experience: We sadly needed to request Dr. Harry's help for an at-home euthanasia for our kitty Sage after a short and sudden illness. His compassionate care gave Sage a peaceful farewell in the comfort of his home. We are so grateful to Dr. Harry and his staff for handling everything about this very hard time with kindness and empathy.

They were really accommodating helpful and understanding, Rashna was very thorough with all the explanation and details when I was talking to her over the phone, and in person all the staff and Dr.Harry were wonderful with my self and my little fur baby. Fantastic experience: I was recommended to go to Hemlock Animal Hospital by my regular vet to obtain an EU health certificate for my dog as we were travelling to Ireland. Naturally, ensuring I had all the required documentation to travel internationally with my dog was a bit anxiety-inducing, but the staff was very easy-going and provided a lot of reassurance. Negative experience: Their Vet came to my apartment to put my dog down. The vet came in and his bag was covered in dirt and scratched up, he almost stabbed himself three times and there was blood everywhere. It took him about 20 mins for the procedure and it made us very uncomfortable. It was horrifying. He had to put the IV in 4 times. This was an absolute nightmare. DO NOT USE THIS VET!

Fantastic experience: Ive been taking my 2 cats here for the last 4.5 years. The assistants are always very kind, and helpful and they always call after a visit to check in on how they are doing. The Veterinarian listens to any concerns, and usually gives lots of options for any issues so you can choose which is best.

On March 10, 2025, Hemlock Animal Hospital's Dr.Harry provided an at-home visit to evaluate and gently euthanize our beloved orange tabby, Diesel. From the moment the vet arrived, it was clear how compassionate, patient, and understanding he was. He promptly reviewed Diesel’s recent X-rays and explained our limited options, helping us see that euthanasia was the kindest choice for our sweet boy. Thanks to Hemlock’s exceptional house call services, Diesel was able to remain in the comfort of his own home, passing away peacefully in his favorite bird-watching spot, warm and purring. This compassionate care during such a difficult time meant the world to us, and I cannot recommend Hemlock Animal Hospital highly enough for their empathy, professionalism, and gentle support. Fantastic experience: Took my 7 months old cat in here for her Vaccines. The lady was really nice and informative, as well as the veterinary on duty. Theyre also gentle and friendly towards my cat. Shes usually shy and run away from unknown people but when I took her in, shes comfortable and completely calm.

Negative experience: I have been going to this vet for over a year. But after the last few visits I have noticed a very steep decline in care when I am there. The last time I went there, Dr. Harry came in and wasn’t very friendly. He seemed like he was in a bad mood, which made me unsettled. I came to discuss potential allergies that my cat might be experiencing and I felt that he quickly just recommended an antihistamine shot and medication after a not very thorough conversation. I was also recommended revolution for flea medication but my cat doesn’t even have fleas. It felt very money focused.

Fantastic experience: Just brought my cat moose in today because he wasn’t breathing properly and I was pretty scared. The staff were amazing! They were very informative and kept me in the loop the entire time. It genuinely feels like they care about my cat and me unlike other vets where it seems fake. I moved to Vancouver 9 months ago and have been in a few times now since I have a lot of pets lol. It was such a low stress vet visit for my cat I’m very impressed every time. Everyone is kind and takes good care to explain what the procedures will be and provide good instructions for taking care of your pet once you get home from a procedure. They are on time and helpful. I also go to them for filling travel paperwork to travel overseas. I recommend this vet to everyone.

Negative experience: The clinic was very dirty and the "Vet" handled my very scared and reactive dog so roughly. I was extremely upset from witnessing how he treated the animals and was speaking to the vet techs out front who agreed rather sheepishly that people usually go to him because he cuts his rates.

Fantastic experience: When I found out there was nothing more that could be done for my 18 year old boy Axl with renal failure I was devastated. I contacted Dr.Harry who did a house call to help him pass over the rainbow bridge at the place where he was most comfortable. Fantastic experience: I adopted my cats from this clinic, and we regularly visit for veterinary services. The front staff and vet techs are incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and calm, which really makes the whole process easier—especially since taking cats to the vet is rarely fun. Dr. Harry is thorough with diagnostics, testing, and procedures, yet he’s always transparent about pricing when asked and never pressures us into unnecessary tests (though we usually opt for them). The pricing here is also quite reasonable compared to other vets in the city. I’m very grateful to have this reliable resource for my cats’ care.

Negative experience: Had a really negative experience with our dog during a high stress situation. Hemlock Vet misdiagnosed his issue, which almost lead to our putting him down. Getting a 2nd opinion cost half as much, and our dog is still happy and healthy and around a year later. Received a partial refund, but it took work on our end, and we were treated as being the unreasonable ones the entire time. Would seriously advise all pet owners to stay far away. If you're still undecided after reading this, take a look at the yelp reviews as well.

Negative experience: Happy one year anniversary to the time Dr Harry took such poor quality x-rays that he misdiagnosed our dog with lung cancer and a hip dislocation and recommended we euthanize him. Luckily the next day our regular vet took better quality x-rays and was able to give proper care for half the price that Dr Harry charged. Wylie recovered in a few days and now a year later he is a happy and healthy senior dog. Dr Harry gave us a partial refund. I would not recommend Dr Harjeet Makkar (Harry)’s services

Negative experience: This place is unconventional. I am currently studying at a Canadian veterinary school to get my doctor of veterinary medicine degree. While I was an undergraduate student in Vancouver, I was looking to work in a vet clinic to gain experience. As a 2nd year vet student, I can confidently say that their practices are untraditional. I don't want to go into to further details, but don't go here. The two owners, gurmeet and harjeet should not be trusted.

Fantastic experience: 1 year ago I began the process of studying law in Australia. My first call was to Hemlock Vet, so I could enquire about bringing my dog Mable as well. From the first phone call I felt secure because the receptionist (Tatia) was very knowledgeable and reassuring that they do this all the time and could help me. Dr. Makkar encounters pets prepping for travel often. He was excellent in performing the many tedious and confusing steps in the required order and on time, so that Mable would be ready to go without delay. If I had to do it all over again, I would certainly go with Hemlock Vet! Their team is knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. They took great care of my girl Mable! And I am very thankful to have connected with Hemlock Vet to help me with this whirlwind of a move with my dog. Thank you Hemlock Vet team!

Fantastic experience: We just had our little kitten, Whiskey, neutered here 2 days ago. We got an appointment very quickly (others had a long wait) and the price wasn't too bad compared to other vets. They took really good care of him, called the next day to check up on him, and have given us advice on the phone multiple times when we call with questions. I would definitely recommend this vet and Dr Harry. Thank you!

Negative experience: I had my pet euthanized and this place charged me 250$ for taking the paw prints and get it shipped. They ship it 2 months after and I miss the package. They call me and say I have to pay extra if they want me to have the paw print. Holding a pet owner at emotional ransom and charging them 250$ for a pawprint is a racket. And they know we want it and trying to fleece more without an ounce of emotion. Amazing business model to run, I would do it., if I didnt have a heart.

Fantastic experience: My 2 cats had emergency surgery on the same day for 2 different reason. Dr Harry was extremely honest, professional and efficient and thanks to his incredible work, my cats received the best treatment and are recovering well. The staff was incredible. Special thanks to nurse Debora that was very passionate and helped us to go through the hard situation, taking care of our cats and helping us all over the surgery and after care process. 100% recommend Dr Harry, Debora and team.

So personable with phone calls during her recovery, such a nice touch and reasonably priced. I only wish they were closer to where I live and they would definitely become my regular vet. Fantastic experience: I have 100% trust in Dr. Harry as my dog's vet -- we have had him as our vet for years. I appreciate that he is compassionate, but also doesn't give you the run-around and is no-nonsense. Prices are extremely fair for the care and service provided. When there are multiple treatment options, those are clearly discussed and the clinic has never attempted to upsell us on anything not needed for best health and life quality.

Fantastic experience: The staff at Hemlock Animal Hospital have been nothing but nice and welcoming. My dog Tanveer had a really big problem, he would always try and hump anybody who came near him and it was getting out of hand. So we decided to get him neutered and the staff at hemlock did a great job at getting him neutered. Tanveer no longer humps anymore and is super well behaved. Thanks Hemlock!

Fantastic experience: Our Bunny was very well taken care of by Dr. Harry and his team after she was hurt in her hind leg and was limping. We are administering the medicines prescribed and she is already on her way to recover in 2 days . Very happy with their service .

Negative experience: HOW is this place still in business and how are they getting 5 star reviews?!?!?! Reposting here, as my review and other poor reviews, have been taken down from another platform. HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE Brought my dog here after she had been bit in the face at a dog park. My usual vet clinic couldn't take her, but were able to check her quickly at the desk and assessed she likely wouldn't need stitches but still needed to be checked and likely required antibiotics. She's part greyhound, very intense runner and her breed is known for a higher heart rate, but chasing her ball and getting bit, it was likely adrenaline making the blood literally squirt out of her face. Naturally, I was feeling quite panicked. Dr. Harry could see her immediately and said she was likely going to need stitches, but they needed to take her in the back without me to check. I was not ok with it but in a panic to make sure my girl was ok, I sent her back for assessment. He suggested they give her a mild sedative or something to calm her so they could examine her. Then I was given a bunch of paperwork and was rushed to fill it out. As I asked for pricing and questioned items in the paperwork, I heard her whining and retching in the back, so I asked what's going on. He said they were inducing vomiting so they can put her under. I immediately told them to stop as I didn't authorize that, I was told she'd be given something to calm her down, not put under sedation. They said they had already started the drip. Like, what?!? You're getting her to vomit WHILE she's being sedated at the same time!? I asked for an explanation for putting her under. They assumed I authorized it in the paperwork, but I asked how when I was still asking questions while filling it out, but again, why put her under?! They didn't answer but said they can reverse it, so I told them to do that so I can get her out of there. The vet then told me I needed to pay almost $1,000. I couldn't believe what I heard. Among the charges were an emergency fee for bringing her in in a rush - they aren't even an emergency clinic. Also charged for sedation I didn't agree to and adrenaline they apparently needed to inject her with to reverse the sedation I didn't approve of. Within an hour, she had adrenaline going through her after getting bit in the face, then sedation, then more adrenaline. Extremely concerned what she had just gone through and how this vet handled the situation, I disputed the charges and Dr. Harry went to the back and left his staff to handle the dispute. They told me he apparently had to leave. So how was he planning to assess my sedated dog and potentially stitch her face if he had to go? I was finally told to pay $600 for his time and materials to get my dog back so we could leave. To top it off, they claimed they cashed out their payment terminal, so I needed to e-transfer the funds. I refused and told them it all seemed scammy, then magically, they were able to take my card. Under different care, my dog recovered - she needed some antibiotic cream, some pain medication, lots of love and she was back to good in about a week or so with minimal scarring. Please, please be careful with your pets and don't make the same mistake I did going here. More people need to share their negative experiences with CVBC.

Fantastic experience: This is a late review, should have it done weeks ago but did not get the chance. My dear dog's name Zoe, almost 3 years old toy podlle . I take Zoe with me anywhere I go even when I travel. We were with other veterinarian in new Westminster since she was born. Long story short, my old veterinarian did an international travel documents for Zoe last year to Europe with no problem. I requested an international travel docments to China in May this year as soon as I got the ticket. The dr. and receptionist told me I got lots time. Because my fly is in Oct. Funny thing is we visited the veterinarian more than 3 times for different appointments after my request; and no one ever say anything about the travel documents, I was assuming that they did once so they must know and have a plan to do it this time, so I feel shy to push or ask again. Until about half month before the fly, I can't wait anymore so ask again, they told me they don't do it anymore. I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT. Why did not tell me sooner and where I am going to do all those in a such short time. I believe all you guys as a pets owner can understand how I feel. Lucky me. My friend told me HEMLOCK HOSPITAL. and they took me in right away. The dr. and receptionist are super friendly and nice and more impotently they all patient. I can't say enough good thing about this clinic. I am so glad we found them for Zoe before too late, Zoe is 3, and long way to go, a good veterinarian and service can make my life and Zoe's life so much easier. Highly highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: A month ago I had a huge problem with my kitten, honestly all the people who work at this vet are fallen angels from heaven, they helped me a lot, and they were always present for me and my kitten, the best prices and the best care, I feel very happy to have found them and that my kitten is in perfect hands.

Negative experience: The team is very friendly, the facility is nice and clean. Unfortunately, we haven't been properly diagnosed and tested with both my dogs. So many tests and money but no results, nobody focused on problem solving. Hopefully they will be more patient oriented.

Fantastic experience: We were referred to this vet by the foster who found and fostered our kitten before we adopted her. They came highly recommended and I absolutely understand why. At the front desk we had the pleasure of dealing with Tadia. Having a new kitten you want to make sure you’re doing everything right and she was very reassuring. Tadia was so helpful in suggesting pet insurance and making appointments for our kittens spay and vaccinations. The way they love on our pets reassures me that we’re at the right vet. Dr. Harry was very informative and knowledgeable, explaining in detail everything he was doing and about to do. Cute cat picture for fun.

Fantastic experience: I had the wonderful opportunity to bring my beloved pet to Hemlock Animal Hospital in Vancouver for their exceptional care. From the moment I stepped into their facility, I felt confident that my furry companion was receiving the best possible treatment.

Negative experience: I recently visited this place and had a rather disappointing experience. While the service itself was satisfactory, I cannot overlook the significant overcharging issue. The price quoted over the phone was $50 lower than what I ended up paying. To make matters worse, they slapped on an additional $29 documentation fee on top of the health certificate fee, which I find utterly ridiculous. I believe in transparency and fairness when it comes to pricing, and this kind of misleading behavior is unacceptable. While the service quality was fine, the overcharging and surprise fees left a sour taste in my mouth.

Negative experience: Saw me on short notice due to my regular vet being short staffed, but I made a mistake in choice. Reception is nice enough but that's where the satisfaction ends. Doctor spent little time actually physically examining my dog. That which he did was not thorough and he seemed to have little regard for the exam itself (I had to catch my dog multiple times from slipping off his exam table), did little physical diagnostic and seemed much much more interested in upselling services I didn't need. Didn't really seem to care too much about what I had to say. I ended up paying for 3 xrays I straight up told the assistant I wasn't sure I wanted before she rushed my dog away. $550 later, and no more info than when I went in (unsurprisngly as I found out later). Doctor didn't even bother following up much after the xrays. I feel he knew the xrays were unnecessary. Reason being is I left so put out by my experience here I went to a different vet shortly after and they were surprised xrays were ordered especially on his leg when the new vet concluded after a -real- physical checkup (and rather quickly) that it was a soft tissue neck injury. The secondary opinion vet seemed unsurprised to say the least, when I informed them of where my first stop was. Guilt and high pressure tactics when folks are already stressed out seem to be pretty prevalent here. Do not reccomend and will not be back. Borderline scammy behaviour. Don't be fooled by the low initial exam fee. I get the feeling most people don't leave here without paying for something they didn't need.

Negative experience: I had a dreadful experience at Hemlock Animal Hospital Vancouver towards the end of 2020 when I took my cat there for vaccination. At the time, I was considering taking my cat back to my home country and inquired about the price of FAVN serum reports. Their quote was higher than I found online, so I visited the hospital in person to inquire about the detailed pricing before deciding. Consequently, I asked them not to draw blood and only administer the vaccination when I brought my cat in. However, without seeking my consent, the veterinarian proceeded to shave my cat's neck and draw blood. I could hear my poor cat crying in distress inside the examination room. When my cat was brought back to me, they had placed her in a cage. The veterinarian informed me that the blood needed to be sent to the lab for testing and demanded over $600 plus taxes on the spot. I was infuriated because I had never agreed to the blood test in the first place, yet I was charged for it. Upon returning home, I noticed unusual behaviour from my cat. She hid under the bed and started vomiting. Concerned, I took her out and discovered a significant bruise on her neck. I rushed her to the emergency room. Fortunately, she recovered. After this incident, I immediately informed a group of people planning to bring their pets back home due to the pandemic, warning them to avoid this particular animal hospital. The staff at this establishment showed no regard for the well-being of animals; their only concern seemed to be money. Moreover, all the procedures performed on my cat violated regulations. In standard practice, blood is drawn from the leg after shaving a small area, and the owner's consent is obtained beforehand. However, none of this was followed at Hemlock Animal Hospital Vancouver. They caused immense trauma to my cat and made her lose blood. This demonstrates their lack of professionalism. I strongly advise against visiting this establishment unless you want your beloved furry companion to facing immediate danger. The hospital staff are indifferent to your pet's life; their primary focus is financial gain. Stay away from this place if you value your pet's well-being.

Fantastic experience: This is the only vet I will be going to in Vancouver! I’ve taken my pups to a few in the area and it’s all up selling, high prices and inconsiderate people. Receptionist is very nice and veterinarian is gentle, considerate and passionate about helping animals over making a few extra bucks which is exactly what we were looking for! The vet has also been able to squeeze us in for last minute appointments which is highly appreciated! Pugs have all left happy from here! I definitely recommend this clinic!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Harry works SO hard. He and his smiley team are lovely to interact with and each time I come in with either/both of my pets I receive wonderful service and excellent, thorough care for my pets at the best prices in town. They have a memo taped to their front counter that mentions that their philosophy is that pets often suffer greatly because pet health care is so expensive and they believe in giving to their customers the best prices possible. I've not seen anything like it anywhere else. And their price list has always been perfect for us. Fantastic experience: Compassionate, efficient, excellent service! I'm so glad I brought Pazza here for her spay surgery. Admittedly, I was a little put off by the reviews, but I'm old enough to recognize a lynch mob when I see one! Amazing service, amazing follow up, my cat healed quickly and wonderfully. I appreciated the ease with which my declines to the "up-sells" were taken. A good veterinary office should be suggesting these things, whether they're in the budget or not! All in all, I'm so so so happy!! 100% recommend!

He made time late in the evening to come to our home because he knew our dog was in pain. He is a fantastic vet and we are so thankful for his warm presence during such a difficult time.

He went above and beyond, and even though he didn't know us, stayed late, and gave us the utmost level of care and respect during our visit. The clinic itself was very clean and tidy. Fantastic experience: I am with Dr Harry and the staff of Hemlock animal hospital for 8 years now. First with my 2 cars Francis and Sophie, and now with the addition of my one year old puppy Sky! Dr Harry and his staff are very attentive, open to all my questions and my animals trust him. He listens and gives suggestions! He never pushes for unnecessary tests and has the animal and the owner in his mind when doing his diagnosis. I just only can say Kudos and will keep referring him!

Negative experience: I called in about a week ago regarding the in-home vet services, as my cat was very old and I wanted him to experience the least amount of stress in his final moments. When I called, the receptionist was exceptionally kind and gentle with me. I just called for a quote to discuss with my brother. She let me know a veterinarian would call me back to explain the process to me. When the Veterinarian called me back I was blown away by how cold and inconsiderate he was. He even asked me if I was sure I didn't want to just put my cat down the day I called. I was very emotional and tried to frantically explain I just wanted a quote, as this was a decision for me and my brother to make. He then coldly responded if I was keeping the ashes or not. I hadn't even thought that far and just asked for the prices for both. He seemed annoyed with me. He then asked me to confirm the appointment, I explained for a third time I just wanted a quote to discuss with my brother. He asked if I was to cancel the appointment, I said I didn't make one, so obviously! He called me back a few hours later to re-confirm the appointment with me: at this point I was livid. my beloved pet was dying, I had to discuss our options with my brother, the vet was beyond inconsiderate to me during this whole process and kept trying to push me to confirm an appointment. This was the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my life, and I am so glad I didn't go here for it. In short: Reception is kind and caring. actual Veterinarian is cold and inconsiderate to ones feelings regarding pet end of life. I am not a current patient: I was just looking for in-home service for my pet and my experience with the Veterinarian over the phone made me feel good about my decision to not go through with this service and go to my trusted vet instead.

Fantastic experience: Very professional and thorough. You can tell they are animal lovers. I was looking for a rodent/exotic vet when my mouse got pinkeye and was nervous because previous doctors i had gone to when i had hamsters with tumours didnt seem to care. At Hemlock they genuinely seemed to love what they do and not be put off by his size and squirminess. Clean, organized and reasonably priced.
