Our comment from InfoVet about The Spay Clinic:
The Spay Clinic is a dedicated veterinary facility in Canada, specializing in spay and neuter services at affordable prices. Many clients appreciate the professional and caring nature of the veterinarians and staff, highlighting their focus on animal well-being and reasonable pricing for services. Users have reported positive experiences with quick recovery times, effective communication, and the availability of both regular and urgent care procedures. The clinic stands out for its clean and calm environment, contributing to a pleasant experience for both pets and their owners.
However, some customers have expressed concerns regarding customer service issues, particularly with the front desk staff, noting instances of rudeness and poor communication. Additionally, there have been complaints about administrative errors and appointment scheduling delays, which have led to frustration among clients. Overall, while the clinic is praised for its veterinary services and affordable pricing, there is a clear need for improvement in front desk interactions.

The Spay Clinic: Reviews
Negative experience: Vet was great but I find it extremely rude and unprofessional that they do not offer washroom access to paying clients. So if you have any kind of kidney, bladder or bowl disorder I advise going to different vet. They actually suggested I pay my fee and walk into a pizza parlour with my cat to ask to use their washroom. If you can't provide access to a washroom for paying clients why would you expect your neighbouring business to allow your fur patients in so the human owners that just paid for YOUR vet services to use the washroom at a neighbouring business. Oh wait do you own the Pizza joint too and have a policy that washroom is for paying customers and that is why you referred me there.
Positive experience: The vet and tech care is good and affordable, but the front staff are unhelpful and frustrating to talk to, which makes follow-up care difficult.
Negative experience: It has been incredibly frustrating trying to communicate with one of the receptionists both times I have needed their help in the last few weeks. I have no complaints about the vet himself or prices. The issue is that in order to recieve quality care for my pet, I need help from admin staff, and the receptionist I spoke to didn't give instructions clearly. When the phone was passed to someone else, I got the help I needed.
Fantastic experience: Terrific prices and care for our animals.
Negative experience: The front desk lady that I dealt with on the evening of January 30th was rude, condescending and uneducated. I received a phone call the day my cat was being spayed and at the time I was unable to answer. I called back as soon as I could, and the lady I spoke to let me know that they found mites in my cats ear and asked if I would give consent to allowing them to treat it, to which I agreed. I also asked for a prescription for my dog to also get ear mite treatment so I could administer it at home to her as well. Fast forward that evening to pick up my cat post surgery, the lady at the front desk told me that the doctors were unable to fill my prescription because I did not answer at the time they called, although I called back and they asked if I was OK with them proceeding treatment. She said they no longer have doctors in so she cant give me anything anyway, and that “next time it would be a good idea to pickup your phone while your pet is in surgery”. I said OK I’ll come another day to pickup prescription for my pets and she said that they can’t give it to my dog unless she has an exam, and that it doesn’t even matter and that there is no need to treat my dog because “mites only get transferred from cat to cat” (which is false). I disagreed with her on that and she was insistent. I moved on because clearly she had no idea what she was talking about. Onto the next topic which was post spay care, I pulled out my phone and started typing down all the information she was telling me but she stopped mid sentence, stared at me and said “umm are you typing on your phone? Because there’s no need because we will email everything to you” (she didn’t by the way, they only sent me a link to access my pets account the following day without any post care Info). Then I asked about the feline leukaemia vaccine cost in the future, and she explained that there will be a fee for an exam ($100), the bloodwork ($40) and then the vax ($60). I said “ok great so $200!” To which she proceeded to argue with me and say $200 isn’t the price. She then reiterated the cost breakdown out loud for me to hear better and realized I was right. I then began to ask about how the microchip worked and if I need to put the tags on while internationally traveling to which she said no and laughed at me saying “it’s a lot of work just to travel with a cat”. This isn’t even all of it. Needless to say this lady was rude, argumentative and ignorant. I give two stars because the prices are amazing and everything was quick and efficient, however this specific front desk lady was distasteful.
Fantastic experience: The calmest and cleanest clinic in the city. I don’t know how they do it but it does NOT have that “vet office” smell which makes waiting much more pleasant, if you have to wait at all! They are really good about managing flow and I have only seen one or two other pets at most while Im there with mine, which keeps it nice and calm. The staff is lovely, the prices are reasonable and the vets aren’t just trying to see as many clients possible in a day. There are other places in the city that have cheaper exam rates but I have switched here because a couple extra bucks is worth the cleanliness and calmness here. I highly recommend it. I finally feel seen and respected by my vets! Also they gave a high and low quote, then called to update me and said all the work fell within the quote, even with 20 teeth pulled i still ended up on the low end, which was a really pleasant surprise
Positive experience: I found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. As this was the first pet I've had in 30 years, I found myself taking in a cat that had been abandoned. Given his situation, I quickly fell in love with him and wanted to the right thing by getting him his shots, a tattoo and, as he's about 7 - 8 months old, neutered as well. Having never done anything like this before, I wasn't sure what to expect. First of all, I was under the impression that Dr. Charles West was going to be doing the procedure and found out AFTER, that some part-time doctor had come in and operated . Not sure why, but I found this unsettling. I would liked to at least, have met the doctor first. I found I was quite anxious about the whole ordeal and would have appreciated a little talk by the doctor. Secondly......what's with the " archaic" cone? Our cat is a " groomer". It's one of the first things we noticed when we got him inside. I " assumed" that cones were made with a Velcro strip or something. This cone came with a gauze strip I was supposed to tie around his body(?). NOT HAPPENING!!! Lol. I had no problem with the " atmosphere" of the place. It seemed okay. However, I got the feeling that since these " procedures" are so commonplace, it's easy to forget that this stuff can cause a lot of anxiety for us family members that have to make these decisions. I would, however, go back to the clinic.....making sure to meet the doctor....
Fantastic experience: Great staff, doctors and nurses or whatever they're called are so caring. Your pet is well cared for and loved.
Fantastic experience: Had my kitty spayed here. Great price, staff are friendly and professional. Kitty made a great recovery.
Fantastic experience: Awesome vet very professional and kind I take both my dogs to this vet and will continue
Negative experience: Called to ask if it was normal to feel my cats microchip under his skin after insertion. ( had my cat neutered and chipped here) Expecting a simple yes or no, was given the run around response of “well you should book a consult to bring him in and pay to find out if it’s normal from our vet”. So called my regular vet and was simply informed that yes it’s totally normal to feel a microchip under your cats skin, no need for a consult but if you’d like to bring him I we can do a quick scan to make sure it’s working properly .
Negative experience: This place was amazing until one day , they phoned and said , I owe them 290$. I was told that they don't do loans , and that you must pay when you pick up your pet. I was with my grandfather and we picked up my pet. Several months later, i went in because my cat was sick. They said that I owed the money and there was nothing they could do. They will refuse to work with me. Now looking at taking legal action for this fraud and unfair ethical situation.
Fantastic experience: I am very grateful for your support and help with my Lilly cat and appreciate your kind good service and affordable price . Thank you very much. I recommend your clinic .
Fantastic experience: Awesome caring bunch of folks everywhere else quoted $700 and up to spay our dog they did it for $450 and it was a good as the others, highly recommend them.
Fantastic experience: I really appreciate the level of care here, however it is always a minimum of a month for surgery, so I have needed to find another vet, and it is unfortunate. Really great work here though, and considerate staff in my experience. I hope capacity is expanded, because this is where I would always bring my pets if I could.
Negative experience: 6 years without you. We will miss you forever, my Lola girl. 2025 Why didn’t I get a response to my review not being “5 star” Is it because I filed a complaint? Plus a review of the biased decision? Or because I was threatened multiple times with a lawsuit by your clinic because I told the TRUTH?? Il never stop sharing my story, Dr. West, Amanda McMillan and staff. July 22 was 5 years since Lola passed and I will never forget and NEVER allow this clinic to forget her and her suffering. My beloved girl of 10 years left this clinic only to pass in an emergency clinic an hour and a half later. I called 4 X after leaving this clinic looking for help from them, not once was I made to believe she was in medical and respiratory distress. On my own, I realized it and rushed her to an emergency clinic. They also denied repeatedly that I called them until I pulled up my phone records as proof. No accountability. She had been suffering for weeks undiagnosed with a potentially fatal disease I found out there. She had Laryngeal Paralysis and presented at this clinic with a very common symptom attributed to that disease weeks prior, and was seen by Dr. McMillan. This symptom I was told not to worry about at that appointment. My biggest regret is not seeking a second opinion. PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW A VET DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE/DIAGNOSE A BREATHING ISSUE 2X. Bare minimum even a referral. It’s disgusting. Also a tech , while trying to take blood for blood work, broke the needle repeatedly on her leg, adding to the respiratory distress she was already under from having an undiagnosed disease. One of the most dismissive, careless techs , I’ve ever encountered. And one of the most untrustworthy I see now after viewing her statement in the investigative report. There have been many false statements made by several individuals in this clinic. We have been left devastated at the trauma of losing our precious girl this way and heartbroken at her suffering due to not being diagnosed at her appointments and her obvious symptoms not taken seriously by this clinic.
Fantastic experience: I took my 2 cats to get done they are doing great the staff was friendly
Fantastic experience: I have been taking my pets here for YEARS! Since they specialize in spay/neuter, this is hands down the place to take them for quick healing. From what I understand, they have a laser scalpel, which is what promotes that quick healing. They don't just do the spay/neuter they also do regular and non-urgent medical care for your pets. My dog has growled at and tried to nip a previous doctor. The doctor we saw at the Spay Clinic was so patient with Gomez, getting to know him and giving him treats before he put his hands on him. Gomez did not fuss or growl, he was very good for the doctor. They recently had to raise the exam fee to $100, but they are generally one of the more affordable clinics in Edmonton as well.
Fantastic experience: The vet truly cares about your pet and has ensured his education reaches beyond pushing medication and prodecures. The rest of the staff are kind, caring, knowledgable and patient. Cannot recommend them enough. I have full trust and ease of mind when the pups go for any visit
Negative experience: Took my baby here during the pandemic three times, for her shots and spaying and boosters. At that time, you were not allowed in with your animals, but I trusted she was in good hands. Forward three years later, and we are now in office for her booster. It was my first time allowed to be here with her, I was excited! That was quickly no longer the case. I arrived and they had moved locations, at no point during booking or confirmation did they mention that. As they arrogantly explained when we finally got there, they'd been moved for a cpl years now so they don't mention it. Uhm, you called me to remind me to boost my kitty so you knew I hadn't been there in 3 years. Courtesy would dictate a heads up. When I found myself outside a closed clinic and called, I was placed on hold abruptly twice. When I called back to ask to cancel my appointment as I would be late due to being in the wrong place and put on hold repeatedly, I was told the wrong address. Of course, I was frustrated when I arrived, especially having waded through tree shredders and junkies to get in the broken front door. My cat was agitated, and so was I. The front desk staff and assistant nurse thus far have been at best arrogant in that they have zero idea how to address an agitated client. On the phone during booking and in the office, they pushed sedatives for a 5 minute appointment. Making me feel as if last time she was murderous, even though on the last appointment the nurse told me that was totally normal and she just had a bit of tortitude. She was fine, and we did not sedate, obviously. My appointment was at 11:30 it is now 12:05 and I am still in a room with my terrified cat. New location is in a terrible neighborhood. I'll keep you posted if we ever see the vet as the nurse said she was awesome, but so far, I am actually worried that during the pandemic, I left her alone with these people. Update: Both arrogant Nurse and I calmed down. Do I still think they have terrible bedside manners? yes. Was the vet awesome? Meh.... she was fast, very fast and my cat didn't hate her. Was the service and time spent equal to the other vets I've visited? No. Frankly it wasn't even equal to last time I visited this clinic as last time 160 included nails, etc. Did she try and push deworming on a cat that was obviously too fat to have worms and that has never left the house or met another animal? yes. Did she tell me she had products to help clean the cats ears and then not mention them again? Yes. To be fair, they are cheaper and the only vet downtown, so if you can go in with your pets and monitor, I would. In an emergency, I would go back. I will, however, put my name on the list for a family vet for checkups simply because I did not feel as if she spent enough time with my pet or myself to get a read on anything. I've also come to find out it is no longer the same owners. This explains everything, and it is very, very obvious.
Negative experience: Talk about customer service. I walk in, the lady at the front desk doesn’t even give me the time of day to look at me or say one moment. Stood there for a couple of minutes and I was just treated like a sack of potatoes. I walked out on my appointment, first and last time. Garbage service.
Fantastic experience: Great clinic with amazing vets! Particularly, Dr. Nedra Chaouachi. I always take our 3 cats there for their annual checkups and I am very happy so far! Thank you!
Negative experience: I’ve had good experiences here in the past, but this visit was very disappointing. I dropped off 3 dogs, 2 needing vaccines and 1 only for a lump check. Without my consent, the third dog was vaccinated. When I raised this at the front desk, the receptionist offered no apology and instead blamed me it on a records issue. Regardless of paperwork, I did not ask for my dog to be vaccinated. Very unprofessional and frustrating experience. Edit: After sending them an email, they followed up with an apology and refund for the unauthorized vaccines. I hope in the future that the veterinarians will look at the patient notes more thoroughly.
Fantastic experience: Have used this clinic several times to have my pets spayed or neutered. They are very knowledgeable and take time to address concerns. They are great with nervous animals.
Fantastic experience: The spay clinic has been a great low-cost resource for fixing my cats for many years and I always appreciate their professionalism and dedication to the health and wellness of all their clients.
Fantastic experience: Very good staff with helpful advice and great check up. Kept cats occupied while giving vaccine so they didn't notice
Negative experience: I had a very upsetting experience at this clinic. I drove 1 hour and 20 minutes from Wetaskiwin to Edmonton because someone recommended this place for my dog’s spay appointment. That day I really needed to use the restroom urgently. I was shaking and crying when I arrived, and I explained to the staff that I was a client, that I had an appointment, and that I couldn’t even walk anymore. I begged them to please let me use the bathroom before checking in my dog. They still refused and kept repeating “we don’t have public washrooms.” I explained again that I wasn’t just anyone walking in from the street, I was a paying client bringing my dog for surgery. They didn’t care. They even admitted someone had taken down the “no public bathrooms” sign and that they would put it back up. In the end, I had no choice but to leave the clinic in tears and try to find somewhere else. After the long drive and with no nearby options, I couldn’t make it in time and ended up humiliated and in pain. A stranger caught me outside while I was crying and it was extremely embarrassing. This experience was so bad that I honestly wanted to cancel the surgery and take my dog elsewhere. But of course, they ask for your credit card info upfront, they charge a deposit, and they clearly state it’s non-refundable. If you cancel less than 48 hours before the appointment, they still keep your money. So I felt forced to leave my dog despite what had just happened. This was unprofessional, humiliating, and completely lacking in compassion and empathy. I wouldn’t recommend this clinic to anyone.
Negative experience: Had my puppy spayed there. Great service. Called today, a couple of months after because my Dog is very sick and when I spoke to the receptionist and told her he was sick and she didn’t ask any symptoms, how long was he sick, nothing. Just told me there was no appointments till 4 sept. I was not impressed with this treatment.
Fantastic experience: The price is affordable, the nurses are caring, the vet is professional and patient.
Fantastic experience: So far I’ve gone in for just a dental consultation type appointment with my schnoodle - fair pricing but besides that, amaaaazing , incredible staff. I was pleasantly honoured to deal with miss emily, she truly made that entire experience for me AND poe so much easier so much calmer and I 100% recommend (again this is my first impression so of course after his procedure I’ll update but I have a pretty good feeling here) thank you guys so much and I’m happy I’ve found somewhere me and poe feel safe and cared about
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff, excellent pricing. Strongly recommend
Fantastic experience: Love this clinic! Great people and my animals are treated amazingly. The prices are very competitive in the ever increasing costs of our current society. They are also extremely knowledgeable in everything animal.
Positive experience: Brought two cats in for a spay. Staff was nice. But one of my cats wasn't doing good after the spay, so I brought her back in as the issue was with the spay. Vet gave me anti-inflammatory meds for her. Those meds didn't work and I had to go to the emergency vet TWICE. Which cost an additional $400+ and her being in pain longer than she had too. Luckily all the emergency vet had to do was prescribe some antibiotics and my cat was okay after a couple days.
Fantastic experience: We continue to receive top notch care from the Spay Clinic with the whole team going above and beyond. Dr. Ye clearly cares about her patients and I still can not speak highly enough about her and the clinic. Thank you!
Negative experience: I was a customer here for a while, 2 dogs. When one of the dogs got hurt, I called to get a rush visit. Told me they would see what they could do, over 8 hours later (I'm not even exaggerating), I got a call saying not able to see my dog, take it somewhere else, anywhere else, just not here. So, I called somewhere else and the first thing they did was give me advice over the phone on what to do until my appointment and then took us in and made us feel welcome. My own vet couldn't even help out a stressed pet parent with some basic advice over the phone to calm down the anxiety. Bottom line, I'm not going back for obvious reasons as I don't feel they value my business or my pet's health for that matter. Had a few negative interactions with front office staff as well.
Positive experience: My 11 months old dog was neutered here. He also got a microchip and a tooth extraction. I inquired to different places and this clinic is more affordable. However, my dog contracted a kennel cough and I had to bring him to another vet and spend $250 for antibiotics. My dog was not socialized with other dogs before his neuter appointment. This is the only place I can think of where he got a congested nose and cough. He is fully vaccinated as a puppy.
Fantastic experience: 10/10 best vet experience we've had ever. Our technician took the time to understand our dog's needs and quality of life when it came to his teeth. We will be bringing all our pets here in the future!
Fantastic experience: Took my first female cat in for a spay. I really appreciated how knowledgeable and responsive the staff were with my questions regarding the procedure and the aftercare.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and prices. Has my cat spayed there for less than half of what I was quoted from several other vet clinics.
Fantastic experience: Great folks here. Staff and Docs are friendly and knowledgeable. Pricing is always right. We live on the south side of the city but still bring our cat here because of the fantastic service. Only constructive feedback point was the wait time today but it is also a very busy clinic, which makes the wait understandable.
Fantastic experience: Very impressed with the surgical scar site on my 9 month female cat Raya. We've used The Original Spay Clinic twice now. Once previously for my 8 month male cat Jack. Both animals returned from the facility in what I can only describe as positive spirits. Their energy & vibrancy had not diminished. Neither seem to mind the day away from home & this operation. The staff were friendly and efficient. We appreciate the reasonable prices & the the reminder phone call 48 hours in advance and your willingness to let us reschedule. Will reccomend. Clearly this is a facility which is successful in its specialty of spay and neuter services. Thank you for everything you do. With gratitude, - Kelly & Brandon and our fur babies: Jack Raya & soon their sister Mira.
Fantastic experience: I took my female dog into the spay clinic for her spay surgery. The staff are amazing, patient and supportive they answered all my questions before and after the surgery. She is recovering well. The price for the surgery was very reasonable in comparison to other vet clinics in Edmonton. We will definitely continue to bring our pets to the spay clinic!
Fantastic experience: Our daughter’s cat was booked in at the clinic which was very organized and easy to do. One day later her little fur baby was back to her normal self and playing all over the house
Fantastic experience: A day ago we had our cat neutered! Everything went well, friendly staff and good attitude towards the pet. At the same time, I recommend! Good job!
Fantastic experience: I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Charles HE Cares they are kind considerate and truly care for my pet child .I wish I found Dr. Charles and his Great Team Years ago. I have them now and my pet child is in best care! We Are All fortunate and lucky to have such caring veternarian team that truly cares for animals! Highly recommend this place!!! 199%
Fantastic experience: The care and consideration shown by Dr. Charlie West and his team was incredible! They are so compassionate, thoughtful, and honest! The best service and value! I trust them! The care they have shown my animals is truly appreciated. Edmonton is so fortunate to have his practice in our community. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I have been taking my pets here for years and I am continually impressed with the care they take. The staff are friendly and the vet (we see - there might be more we do not know about) is professional and clearly cares for the health and well-being of the animals she treats.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful vet techs! I have taken my dog Nala to this clinic for the past 4 years and they have always provided exceptional care on routine visits and for surgeries. The ladies at the front desk are always so consistently helpful and considerate. I would highly recommend this vet clinic to anyone. I feel like the rates for surgeries and other procedures that I have paid for reasonable and follow up appointments are thorough.
Negative experience: I would give you a review in negative if I could. For the way you reject to deal with a cat that was Neutered that had complications after surgery and stopped eating and drinking. We called to tell them about this and they said they don’t have time to look at him after one week of not eating, he’s in emergency clinic ended up costing us thousands to deal with this and is still at the emergency clinic. Shame on you for not following up on this case and he was dying. I hope he survive through the night!
Positive experience: I used to love this clinic. The pricing was very competitive and they were typically able to provide appointment times with 24-72 hours of calling. Recently, I've notice the pricing has increased especially for exams where I'm paying over $100 instead of the previous $85-90 while some other top vets are charging even less - $75 in some cases for minor exams. Not to mention, it can take 2-3 weeks to get an appointment unless you want to drop your pet off and pick them up after the exam whenever that is (not an option for my easily stressed cat). The front staff and the vets are really friendly and knowledgeable, but I'm not sure what the point of having them as a regular vet would be if I have to take my pet to a different clinic half the time because the schedule appointments are days/weeks out. Not to mention, during my last visit I had to wait in the exam room 30 minutes past the scheduled appointment time for the doctor, and they didn't even apologize for the wait.
Fantastic experience: Go to this clinic if your fur babies need care‼️ All the technicians and staff made me feel so safe bringing my dog in for her spade surgery. They did a great job, made sure my girl got top notch treatment and were super accommodating to me and rambunctious dog. The women who work there are so kind to the animals i’ll definitely be coming back if i ever need to. Highly suggest these women working here please support them with your business! My doggy says thanks again
Fantastic experience: Great cli c snd the best place to fix your animals
Fantastic experience: I discovered the Spay Clinic when I was trying to find an affordable place to have my dog spayed. The price at the Spay Clinic was 1/2 what I was quoted in Leduc. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will be moving both of my dog’s care to this clinic.
Fantastic experience: Have now taken both of my dogs here, (almost 2yrs apart) and both times they have been super professional, and so kind. Especially with my dogs being nervous of new people. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the care is always top tier. Highly reccomend.
Negative experience: This vet office has gone way downhill in the last couple of years. Our experience started off really well with Dr. McMillan, but she has since left this practice with no notice to her patients. We have been going in circles with our dog's allergies, and have spent thousands of dollars at this clinic. We were only just now referred to a canine allergy specialist after years of countless tests and appointments and rounds of medications, and the same conversation with the vet over and over. The front desk is always so busy, and the employees just cannot seem to answer any questions. There seems to be little to no communication between staff. Whenever you call, you ALWAYS have to wait on hold (sometimes they forget about you on hold). I understand that it's a business and they have lots of clients, but maybe that's a sign you need more staff or should start taking on less patients. They frequently forget to call when prescriptions are ready for pickup, and the customer service is completely gone. I also asked for a copy of my dog's prescription so I could purchase his medication elsewhere, and was denied that. If you are looking for a vet clinic, I would stay away from this one. While I don't think the vets themselves are terrible, I just think the way the clinic is run as a whole is inefficient and frustrating as a customer. Yes, their prices are a bit lower than most clinics, but they will make you pay more in the long run.
Fantastic experience: Doctor Ye is knowledgeable, proactive, and helps me take great care of my cat. The people at this clinic are always very conscious of the cost of pet care, and help me make decisions with that in mind. The front desk workers are very kind. The clinic is often quite busy, but everyone there does their best!
Negative experience: Super disappointing experience this morning when I had not received an email or voicemail stating to fast my dog before surgery. I had even tried calling 3 times to confirm appointment. No answer and I received no confirmation email in the days leading up to the neutering. I felt uneasy about going forward with the spay clinic since they had not communicated important information with me. The frustrating part is that I showed up and when I overheard and confirmed with the lady at the front that I should have fasted my dog (so they could not perform the surgery) I calmly said I’m a little frustrated with all of this and would like a refund. She refused to give me a refund for the service even though they failed to give me any pre surgery instructions. It makes total sense to me now that you would have to fast your dog before surgery. What doesn’t make sense is how combative the lady was with me and how horrible I felt after the interaction. In no way did I want them to perform the surgery on my dog if it was unsafe. In the same sense I just don’t trust the spay clinic after them not communicating vital information to me beforehand. Anyways beware of how agressive the employees can get. I felt completely attacked and wish I had just not said anything and walked away because of how stupid she made me feel. Turns out she got my email wrong but still didn’t change the fact that she would not get me a refund and I should have called. I told her I called 3 times with no answer and she said the phones were on. I’ve never felt so gaslit. I would not trust my dog with them. Maybe they are good but if anything goes wrong they handle it horribly.
Negative experience: Harassment and bullying. Plain and simple. Told them I wasn't getting a surgery for my dog that wasn't necessary, then told me I was neglecting and abusing my dog and that if I didn't get there surgery done animal control would get involved and take our dog away. Went to another vet recommended to us by the former president of the Alberta Vetrinary Medical Association and they told us not to worry, nothing is wrong with her other then some dental work needing to be done, and that our animal won't be reported. It's unprofessional and not worth the time. Highly recommend some place else.
Negative experience: The 2 stars are for the location. I hadnt realized they moved to 107 street plaza. I can honestly say i was not comfortable in that area...the appointment/consultation was great..staff were very nice. When i left with my 2 dogs, pugs, there was a guy right outside the clinic, smoking a crack pipe. For safety reasons, i will not be returning to this clinic...what were they thinking?
Fantastic experience: Great place, thanks for helping Penelope! Update: (Aug 15, 2024) My 14 year old cat Penelope, had her annual appointment today. She also had a checkup for some acute symptoms of hers. Everyone here was so good with my spicy old lady. They were patient and kind, not only with Penelope, but with me as well. They took the time they needed to ensure she was well cared for, and thoroughly examined. We ended up doing a couple X-rays, where we did find some old lady problems. My old clinic had told me that she is stomatitis, and as a result needed all her teeth removed. This clinic checked her mouth thoroughly and found no signs of it. She does still need a dental procedure with extractions. However, far fewer extractions are needed, and the estimate is 1/4 to 1/2 of the price, it would have been if i had it done at the previous clinic. Additionally, her appointment today, which consisted of a checkup, senior labs, X-rays and some pain medication. This cost me less then half the cost of her appointment last year, at a different clinic, where we did those things minus the medication and x rays. Not only do I recommend this clinic for your cat or dog. If another clinic diagnosis, your pet with a condition, that requires an expensive medical procedure. Provided it's not an emergency or otherwise time sensitive situation,.Before going ahead with it, bring your pet here, have them give you a second opinion and second estimate. And then decide how to proceed. Until today, I felt very guilty for not getting my cat the dental procedure, I thought she needed. I am so happy I followed my gut instinct, when it told me to wait, and save up money for it. I am not 100% guilt free, as she still has dental issues that needed attention a while ago. Still, I am so greatful, I didn't have all of her teeth removed for a condition she doesn't have.
Fantastic experience: I brought my kitten in for a spay. From the start the staff were super kind and made me feel very comfortable. Prices are very fair and the wait is worth it. They're so good my kitten is acting like she didn't just have surgery. Incision is barely noticeable and the detailed aftercare instructions are fantastic. They answered all my questions and overall I am extremely pleased with this clinic. My mother had two of her cats spayed by them over 30 years ago. They came recommended to me by her, so clearly their standards of care are held in high regard. Thank you to the care team who took care of my little Kiyora today! You guys rock!
Fantastic experience: A great clinic for cat spaying. The staff are very friendly and caring, and the prices are affordable with high quality service.
Fantastic experience: My cat needed to have a tooth removed due to reabsorption. My vet quoted over $3000 for the procedure. A friend recommended checking The Original Spay Clinic as their prices are far more reasonable. I cannot say enough about the whole experience. The staff were amazing, answered all my questions, and took great care of my cat. The cost of the procedure was under the quote they gave me. It was even easier on the pocketbook as they ask for a deposit of $300 when you make the appointment. This allowed me to break up the payment for the procedure into much more manageable payments. I will definitely bring my cats back again.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Charles West and his team were both incredible AND affordable. I had been to another vet previously who told me they were unable to do all three procedures that I inquired about on the same day, that I would need to put my dog under anaesthesia twice. It felt a little gimmicky to me $$$. I went to Dr. West for a second opinion, him and his team gave me the option of doing all three procedures in one day and their rates were much better than the other place I had gone to saving me hundreds. He seems like he’s in it because of his love for animals. He’s a caring and compassionate doctor first and then a business man, not the other way around. I was pretty adamant after meeting him that I wanted my dog to have her cherry eye procedure done with him, so he took the time to see where he could fit her in as soon as possible and I was beyond grateful. I took a few business cards and I’ll be sharing them with all my colleagues and friends!
Negative experience: I took my little dog here to get spayed. I was greeted with a friendly hello and they greeted my dog too, which made me feel good about leaving her. I went to pick her up at the time they told me to get her. I was not told of anything going wrong or any complications. I put my dog to bed and checked on her later. Upon doing so, I saw the razer rash and one of her nipples half cut off. I left it for another day but then called the clinic and came down. They never apologized, they gave me more drugs for my dog which they charged me for. I mean this could happen anywhere, but I should have been told when I picked her up. My dog was shaved while she was put under, how does this happen? And why was I not told.
Fantastic experience: Great clinic. Very very reasonably priced compared to the two other quotes I obtained. My pet was very well taken care of and the treatment was successful.
Negative experience: For 10 years, my dog was a beloved patient of Dr. West at Spay Clinic, the absolute best in the city. But now, under new management, the clinic has descended into chaos. Here’s my horrendous experience: My dog was scheduled for two surgeries: removing a growth on her eyelid and excising three fatty bumps on her body. Upon arrival, only one surgery was confirmed, and there was no record of the second. We had to endure a stressful re-examination on the spot. I requested a biopsy for the eyelid growth, yet they ignored my instructions. After my complaint, they called two days later, claiming they "found" the material and could send it for biopsy. How did they find it if they supposedly cleaned and disposed of everything? I brought my own cone of shame, which they used, yet they shamelessly charged me for it. I had to demand a refund. They completely botched my insurance claim by using incorrect codes, leading to a refusal from Trupanion. It took two agonizing weeks of daily calls and begging to get them to correct it. They only did it because I relentlessly pursued it. One of the stitches from the fatty lump removal was sewn so tightly and overlapped that it got infected, leaving an ugly, wide scar right in the middle of her back. Dr. West had removed four lumps before with no trace left behind, a stark contrast to this disaster. Despite Dr. West being semi-retired in Novemeber 2023, they never allowed me to speak with him directly, always insisting they would communicate on my behalf. I was left in the dark, unable to discuss my concerns with the one vet I trusted. Recently, I received two reminders for my dog’s vaccinations. When I called to schedule, the manager aggressively informed me that I was no longer a client and that they had sent an email six months prior. Instead of an apology, we were bluntly kicked out and even forgot to remove from the list. When I questioned the manager’s hostile attitude, she arrogantly said she could speak however she wanted since I wasn’t a client anymore. I told her I would write a scathing review revealing the truth, and she dismissed me, saying one review wouldn’t make a difference. I HOPE IT DOES All the glowing reviews were for Dr. West’s impeccable service. Today, the new management has utterly destroyed everything.
Fantastic experience: My dog loves it here and I do too. So greatful for the amazing staff and team who are understanding, patient and kind at every visit. Never have to wait too long, great care and great health recommendations from the veterinarian. Fair prices and nothing beats her excitement as she comes in to say hi to everyone!
Fantastic experience: What a wonderful clinic. Friendly staff and very helpful and compassionate towards all fur babies that visit the clinic. Great experience when we brought Pepper in to get spayed.
Negative experience: Well unfortunately none of this is acceptable. I bought this dog, I paid the deposit, I made the appointment, I CORRECTED the documents at sign in for My dogs operation. The address listed is My house a property I bought 27 years ago. It is My phone number I have had for 27 years. I had my dog Farley from 23 years ago operated on at you facility 15 years ago and had My Name and Address and phone number on his file. My daughter bought a dog 9 years ago and had an operation for tear glands and spaying done and now its impossible to correct your mistake you made 9 years ago when you moved her name onto My account and removed Mine? FIX IT. You have screwed up the chip registration as well, other then the operation is there anything you have done correctly? Was there any point in pointing out the mistakes and asking for them to be corrected at dropping off My Dog Mabel? I guess the answer is no. This place would be a hard miss, there are other choices, better choices. This is not the Vet office I've been recommending the last 23 years I will not recommend it again.
Positive experience: Love the doctor and the first assistant we had. The next lady at the front desk not so much. We will be back but will need better communication next time. Also, Uber takes u to the wrong address so only use a taxi or drive.
Fantastic experience: Tiggy went here for a decade. They always did a great job. Recently we had to say goodbye to Tiggy and the staff and doc were compassionate and caring. It was a perfect goodbye. Thank you Spay Clinic.
Fantastic experience: Really comfortable environment, with great prices to match. Had I not qualified for 'Low-Income Animal Support ', I would've been absolutely determined to have my little girls spay done here. 5 ⭐ for a reason.
Fantastic experience: Drove almost 2 hours to take several rescued cats/kittens in for spay, neuter, shots, etc., because no clinics closer to us could get them all in at once. So glad we found this place! Staff were amazing, friendly and knowledgeable. The cats were treated well, the care they received was professional and kind. Prices were very reasonable also. Will be making the drive to continue to bring our pets here.
Fantastic experience: I have brought all of my pets here in the last 10 yrs for their spay/neuter. I have never had any issues. Most recently my dog was there last week for his neuter, vaccinations, microchip. The vet called me asking if she could swab his ear to check for infection. I was very surprised and happy she took the time to go above and beyond. My dogs laser neuter has been healing fantastically. I'm very happy with this place and will always recommend it.
Fantastic experience: Your pets are in good hands with the staff. Ozzy and I enjoy our time with the knowledgeable staff. Thank you staff @ the original spay clinic. Randy and Ozzy.
Fantastic experience: Was going to a different vet previously who quoted $1000+ for a teeth cleaning- decided I want to look around at other options. Came across this spot in my googling... Let's just say I won't be going back to my old vet anymore... AMAZING vet and staff! Worth every bit of praise they've gotten in these reviews. Down to earth doc who is knowledgeable, transparent and reasonably priced. Don't ever feel like your an owner being taken advantage of. Thank you very much again from Kipper and I, The Spay Clinic!
Fantastic experience: These folks have always been kind and responsive, and made accommodations for urgent care needs. Their staff is knowledgeable, personable, and 2S/LGBTQIA+ friendly. We have had them look at cats and dogs, and never for a spay. Their pricing is fair and their service is top knotch. We are very lucky they are so close to us! 10/10 would recommend.
Fantastic experience: Just took our two kittens in to be spayed and neutered. Complications with another animal delayed one of the appointments, but the Clinic communicated with us very well. When we had concerns a couple of days later they booked our little girl in same day so they could check her out. Amazing staff!
Positive experience: Love this clinic - the front desk staff , vet techs and veterinarians are all incredibly friendly and kind. The staff really treats your pet as if it were their own - they’re patient and gentle with my cat everytime I come in and they allow her to roam the exam room as much as she pleases and conducts the appointment in a way so my cat will be comfortable throughout the entire process. The cost of shots , spaying and neutering are all the best price at this clinic as well. The people who work here are all fantastic and make this clinic a wonderful place to bring your furry friend to get the treatment he or she may need at anytime. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: My pups are always taken cared of each time we take them for their annual check-ups and vaccinations. Lovely staff!
Fantastic experience: I have taken all my animals here to get spayed/neutered. I have made the trek from Leduc even when they were in the old location, because the service to the follow up I've had with them has always been amazing! We love the way they are responsible kind and loving. Although the staff has changed the atmosphere is still incredible!
Positive experience: Price is best in the city. Had too wait a few months for my dog too get spayed but worth the wait and putting down a deposit. No hidden extra fees. Parking is tricky. The line up for checking in and checking out was long. Might need too add a staff at these busy times.
Fantastic experience: Ice Cube just got neutered today. He’s super chill! Great job by The Spay Clinic. Really happy from the initial phone call as they wanted to listen to his music :)
Fantastic experience: I regularly use the spay clinic for my pet needs and questions. To my undergraduate they charge a little less for spaying and neutering and have extensive knowledge for clients. They take great care of my cat. I am going in again to get my Siberian girl cat spayed and her first check up on Nov 2nd. No hidden or extra fees. The staff is very upfront about costs and medication expenses.
Fantastic experience: Had a fabulous check up here for my cat! I thought he might need a cleaning and some teeth extracted but the vet was very honest and told me that he didn’t need it done yet and that his teeth look great which I really appreciated!! Other places might have just gone ahead with the cleaning anyways. Only down side is it takes a while to get in for an appointment but it’s worth the wait!
Fantastic experience: I took Kissy, Sasha, Missy, Baby girl, Shadow, Sammy, Tom, Sister and Tigger all to get fixed here.I trust them completely, I even brought my neighbors two long hair calico girl kitties Frankie and Luna into get tattooed and spayed. Dr West and his staff are fantastic and fair priced. I'm sure I will be back.
Negative experience: My dog was cheated out of palliative care. He suffered until the very end through his aggressive cancer. Whether it was due to systemic errors or staff negligence, he was denied a painless death. When my dog didn't respond to medication, they told me there was no room for him until over 3 weeks later, no exceptions. When I found him room at a different clinic they suggested euthanasia, I requested a second opinion from Spay clinic. They ghosted me. I wouldn't hear back until 3 weeks later after his death. When I eventually met with the owner of the clinic he was extremely aggressive and defensive despite him never being there through my dogs end. He immediately attacked and placed blame solely upon me for not updating my dogs condition with them, despite the fact that it was simply not true. I updated them through every stage of his condition. They have no records of the medications they prescribed or any calls I made updating them on every stage of his health. Their systems crashed and lost all records. Regardless, instead of owning up to the mistakes, I was made out to be a bad owner. I was just told the analogy, "Imagine if people would b**** to the chef instead of leaving bad reviews". I'm just playing the role they want me to play. I never intended to write a review. I just wanted answers and closure on the vulnerable and sad situation. I never received any sympathy regardless of the pain they caused my dog. The owner was only worried about the liability they may be responsible for, nothing more. I wish things happened differently but I'll pass on your offer to "contact the practice manager". I know you're sorry that I "didn't have a five-star experience" but I know I did everything I could on my end. I was financially and mentally crippled after everything. I have already tried my hardest to discuss everything with your clinic and its owner privately. I waited and waited only to be villainized.
Fantastic experience: Just brought my new kitten Bao for the first time and was really impressed with the knowledge, bedside manner and friendliness of the staff, particularly the veterinarian who's name is slipping me. The experience was very personable and lovely. They recommended a course for vaccinations/microchipping and neuter that would save my family money by accomplishing in less visits which is very appreciated. I also chose this vet because I called a few vets before booking to get pricing and information and the reception here was the most helpful and friendly which set the tone right from the start. They also have a very beautiful and comfortable space which is a bonus. Looking forward to building a relationship with this clinic through the life of our little one :)
Fantastic experience: The SPay Clinic is amazing. The staff are all really great to deal with. We always take our puppies and kitties here to be altered. I trust this clinic. And pricing is terrific and much lower then any other vet out there. The quality of work is definitely worth the drive into the city. Thank you to the staff for always taking good care of our pets.
Fantastic experience: Brought my cat in to be spayed and get first round of vaccinations and chipping. Every employee I interacted with was friendly, the vet answered any questions I had, and it was decently priced, I always reccomend them when a friend is getting their cat spayed. I’m gonna bring my second cat in for spaying as well!! Great place
Fantastic experience: Absolutely highly recommended. Wonderful staff and they take amazing care of your fur babies. Had Cooper neutered and he healed so quickly. They provided great after care information to take home with you. The price is very reasonable
Fantastic experience: Tiffany met a new friend! Love the clinic. Our first visit and with a 120 lbs Mastiff/Ridgeback having a vet that has zero concerns and is patient is AMAZING!
Fantastic experience: I took a friend's cat in to the Spay Clinic. Everyone was kind, knowledgeable, thorough, and patient with the cat and me. The clinic is well organized, clean and well located. I had troubles maneuvering the heavy double set of double doors. Very awkward to open while carrying a crate. Thank you, "Sammie is better now".
Fantastic experience: Spay clinic was recommend by one of my friend to get my puppy spayed. They quote me lowest price and gave great care of gus. They are very professional and caring. They gave him shots as well which was very reasonable. I will highly recommend them. Now I know why they are so busy. I am going to take gus to them for future needs. They are the best.
Fantastic experience: We've been taking our pup here since he came into our home and have had nothing but good experiences with the staff at this clinic. We haven't had any challenges getting appointments for timely situations, they don't overcharge for medications like some clinics, and our boy still gets excited when he realizes we're going to the vet. Also, the new facility is a big upgrade from their original location. Google Maps still has some challenges providing directions for some reason (not the clinic's fault), but it's a brick building on the corner of 112 St & 107 Avenue. There's usually ample parking along 107 Ave on the South side adjacent to the clinic.
Fantastic experience: If this isn't your go-to place for your pet.....it should be. They are professionals. They quote you the lower rate and the higher rate and almost always come in at the lower rate or closer to the lower rate at least. They started just giving the most cost affordable spay or neuter then started doing teeth cleaning and shots and now are pretty well rounded doing tons of health procedures for your fur babies. I was quoted $7000 at a vet in my area. I paid just under 1100 here for the first procedure and I will pay about the same for the second procedure. Saving me 4800! Dr. West even flew in to perform the procedure on our little girl because it was a bit trickier. Highly recommend The Original Spay Clinic every time! Thanks to the vets and all the staff for their assistance and kindness.
Negative experience: I’m quite disheartened to be writing this review. I took my cat in one month ago to have her spayed. Our first appointment was wonderful - though had to reschedule because of them moving locations. Not a problem! The clinic provided great care of my cat and had no issues. The problem I have is that they are sneaky about their fees. At this first appointment I rebooked for booster vaccinations for my cat. I asked multiple times what the cost of that would be. I was ONLY TOLD the price of the vaccination, it was not explained to me there would be an exam fee at this time as well. When I told them this (my partner and I both were there) they explained they couldn’t do anything about it since they couldn’t give vaccines without doing an exam. They told me straight to my face that they had explained the exam fee. I can assure you this didn’t happen as I would have thought about booking again with them had I known about that exam fee. Again, when I asked about the prices when booking the appointment they didn’t explain this to us. I was then quoted the wrong price for medication, and when brought to their attention they said they could give me those boxes at the reduced price… but if my cat needed that medication past that prescription then I would have been paying almost double what they originally quoted me. To top it all off, the unprofessionalism in our second appointment was atrocious. The vet felt it necessary to comment on my partners disability (as he wears a prosthetic) in the appointment. This isn’t something that should be brought up in a veterinarian office. Wasn’t relevant to the topic at hand and was frankly completely out of line. Making comments like that is in poor taste and frankly you have no idea the repercussions that could cause for someone.
Fantastic experience: This was my first experience with this clinic, after hearing great things, and I am very pleased with everything. They took excellent care of my dachshund Molly for her dental surgery and I felt comfortable knowing she was in good hands. I will definitely be using this clinic again and I would highly recommend it to others.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was wonderful with handling my 5 month old puppy! She got lots of treats and love and didn't have an adverse reaction to her shots being administered whatsoever, in fact she seemed to have a lot of fun and acted as though it was a fun little game. ☺️ Really enjoyed her treatment here.
