Expérience fantastique: I honestly can’t say enough good things about this vet clinic and its staff. Both times I’ve been there have been unexpected urgent issues and both times they got me in almost right away. They have so much empathy not only for the animals but for the pet guardians. All of the staff have been so kind and compassionate to myself and my dog from the vets to the administrative staff. They are also committed to working in a stress free way and working towards being a fear-free vet clinic (they might already be). That means so much to myself and my nervous dog! Expérience négative: I called this vet because I live very close to the location, I have an old cat that has been very sick for the last few months and after spending 800 dollars to try and make the cat better, it did not work, she continued to get worse and now she is lethargic and basically has stopped eating a full meal and is just skin and bones, her breathing is now labored and she is suffering far more than I am willing for her to endure, I called to get her euthanized and this vet wants to do a quality of live exam before they will put her to sleep, this is just insane! I am not some psycho that goes around putting animals to sleep for fun she has been a part of the family for 15 years, not only are they trying to make more money with an exam on a cat that is dying but they immediately started to upscale for ashes and paw prints and anything else they could try to get money for. What is wrong with this place? I am already upset that the cat needs to be put down and this clip joint wants to make as much money as possible , like they don't already make a crap load of money with their fees for treatment. Think twice about taking your pet here for services because I am sure they are going to make up exams just for money in their pockets.

Expérience négative: THE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE BY THE FRONT COUNTER STAFF!!!!! I was only in there to get some food for my pet and was completely ignored by the staff. I could understand if this was an isolated event but have been a client since 2007 and this is not the first time this has happened. After standing there I then took a seat and finally just left empty handed with no acknowledgement I was even there. They were obviously not that busy as they seemed to be having quite an animated conversation when I first walked in!!

Expérience positive: My dog Mozart had been JDF clinic patient since my family moved from the mainland onto the island (about 8 years). The doctors and staff have always been friendly and helpful. I would have gave a five star review but during the later years of Mozart’s visit to the clinic we’ve been switched between different doctors many times. It wasn’t that those doctors left but we were just moved to new doctor and that left me feeling very disconnected. As Mozart was a senior dog I truly believe a more connected relationship with the doctor who had a thorough understanding of his health conditions would have been much better.

Expérience négative: I used to trust this clinic, but a recent experience left me feeling unsafe and dehumanized. When I brought in my sick cat, I tried to advocate for myself calmly—despite being in distress. Instead of support, I was met with contempt, and the staff escalated by calling the police on me. As a trans, autistic, and brain damaged person, this was terrifying and dangerous. Police involvement is not neutral for people in marginalized communities—it’s often traumatic. I had already told them I’d go elsewhere, but they chose to escalate anyway. This clinic does not feel safe for LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent clients. Deeply disappointed.

Expérience fantastique: Juan de Fuca Veterinary Clinic has provided first rate care for first one, then the other, of our two small dogs over the past 17 years. I can’t speak highly enough of our experiences there, from the wonderful front office staff, the vet techs and the vets. All have been outstanding. In every visit there, we and our pups have been treated with respect, compassion and just the right balance of professionalism and warmth. We, and our little Willow, highly recommend this veterinary office if you want the best possible care for your furry family members!

Expérience fantastique: Our 17 year old cat ‘Kit Kat’ recently passed away and the staff there went above and beyond with their care. Our cat was very old, frail, and sick with diabetes, they also showed him such tenderness whenever they needed to do something with him. They talked us through the process and made sure we were okay with each step. Kit Kat was handled very gently throughout. Their respect and concern for the animals show in every aspect of what they do. They even sent us a sympathy card a few weeks afterwards which was extremely touching to us.

Expérience fantastique: I previously wrote a review about the heart break, guilt and questions I encountered when my pug, Pluto, died within 2 weeks of the discovery of a health issue. Pluto was 6 years old. I'd like to add to this review. Pluto's vet at the Juan da Fuca Veterinary Clinic in Colwood, BC, eased my questioning mind by taking the time to empathetically and clearly outline Pluto's health issue, symptoms, causes, medical options, and he thoroughly answered all my questions. Although sadness remains in my heart as I miss Pluto so much, I know now that there was nothing more anyone, including myself, should have or could have done for Pluto. It was just Pluto's time to go! I wish to thank the clinic's vet and staff for their time, empathy, effort and patience. Thank you and wish you all a healthy and happy New Year! Christine Kapoor

They bent over backwards to help me take care of this special, incredibly lovely boy, and I am endlessly thankful for that and for all of their hard work and sacrifices. Fly was in the best hands thanks to my choosing to visit the juan de fuca vet clinic. I could always tell how much they truly cared about him and every pet that came into the clinic to visit them. They tried to make each visit as special for him as they could, and I know he enjoyed them so much too. Nothing was more important to me than the health and well being of my best friend. Bringing him to the clinic and taking their advice genuinely improved his health and happiness, and because of that he got to enjoy his time in this world so much more. Expérience fantastique: This is a wonderful vet clinic. I have enjoyed all the vets at this office and they have always been so helpful and pleasant. My pup had her spay done here. It went wonderfully and she recovered so well. She has also had all her regular check ups here and even a teeth cleaning! This full service vet clinic is the best.

Expérience fantastique: Been going here for a few years, first with Chloe and with the experience we had with her here, when we got Louie we wanted to keep going here. Louie loses his mind with excitement while waiting to go inside consistently since he was a brand new puppy. The staff is great and seem to enjoy his excitement. They are helpful and his Veterinarian made us feel welcome and took the time to explain everything we asked.

Expérience négative: Older lady with glasses at the front desk was extremely rude to me (I'm first Nations) My poor cat is sick and she said they would not book an appointment because I hadn't been there in 6 years, which is a lie. I'd been there 3 years ago. Or had the food I needed. Turns out they did have the food because I called.

Expérience fantastique: Everyone is extremely caring & professional. From the front end staff to treatment staff, I could really tell they were treating my cat like their own. We got some not great news about our almost 3year old kitten last month. Dr. Sarah Brisson & Dr. Clint Doering have been amazing through the whole ordeal. You never want to hear your pet has HCM but they always have time to answer our questions and supported us every step. Prices reflect the care you receive: gold standard. From the 2 legs who pay the bills to our 4 legged family members, thank you.

Expérience négative: After being at this clinic for over 20 yrs I ended up finding a new vet clinic today. Heres why. I came to pick up my puppies tick/flea meds. I broke my ankle so have been unable to get to the groomers to cut my dogs nails. I asked the receptionist if a vet tech could cut Coppers front paw nails. She told me that it would take 3 people to do this and that I would be charged. They also didn't have any staff as it was lunch hour which I totally understood. The receptionist was rude to me, and dismissive. And that's what pissed me off. I value customer service, kindness and this is obviously not what JDF Vet values. I'm happy to have found a new clinic that is family owned called Westshore Pet Clinic. It seems to me that JDF is too busy with too many clients. The last appointment I had felt very rushed and the Dr showed that. I walked out of there with a $250 charge and the issue was not resolved. Shame on you JDF vet. Do better! PS: People always remember how you made them feel. It only takes one time and that's what sticks out in their memory. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth about this clinic.

Expérience positive: We have been taking our pets to Juan de Fuca vet for almost 20 years now. It HAS been the best vet clinic to take our pets until the last few years. The original owners were absolutely amazing. Dr Basterfield is still there but so hard to get in to. We had ,unfortunately, some negative experiences .Dr Doering ,in our opinion,was wonderful with our pets but has absolutely no communication skills with humans. He is quite rude actually.First time meeting, never even introduced himself,was rude and left without a goodbye after our appointment.I was in the office to pick up food and he bowled myself and another pet owner,with no excuse me or any manners, at the door.. I have never seen this man smile and I told the receptionist that my animals will never see him. The original front desk staff are fabulous and so amazingly helpful. They deserve an award! Some new staff are not paying attention. I was given the wrong dose for weight of medication for my dog. If I did not pick this up, my dog would of been extremely underdosed for her weight. There are the three checks for giving meds, they need to abide by this Its sad but this wonderful office must be going through a restructuring rough patch!. I sincerely hope that Dr Doering looks within himself and how he treats humans. He has respect for animals which is awesome but none for the owners. He needs to go back to the basics of please, thank you, excuse me and a smile would be nice He will never see any of my animals ever again. .

Expérience négative: I've taken all of my dogs here here for years. The vets are usually very good here. And I'm sure some, or most of them still are. However, the veterinarian who "helped" us time...not so much. Our dog is a rescue and has multiple allergies and issues. When we went to have him evaluated, the vet who saw him was extremely unhelpful, seemingly ignorant to possible issues, suggested very expensive drugs that did nothing to help. Also did unnecessary treatments without confirming with us. Recently we took his files to another Veterinarian, at a different clinic for a new issue. She immediately diagnosed his symptoms, recommend some changes and treatments, and in only a few days he is a completely different, much healthier dog. I can't tell you how infuriating it is to know that all this time our dog didn't need to suffer, only because of the incompetence, and laziness of an uncaring veterinarian. Thank goodness we got him out of the "care" from this clinic. You need to VET your vets more carefully. Because some of them (I'm sorry) are useless.

Expérience négative: It’s lucky for every pet owner they aren’t accepting new clients as they aren’t good to the ones they have. New client with my dog post Covid so overdue for a checkup - great report! Healthy older dog that’s a bit chonky “like we all are” quipped the vet. Next year I go back and a new female vet tells me all my dogs canines need to be removed. I’ve never been told my dog had dental issues, however as a dental professional I can agree visually one might need work. I get a quote for $2700. I ask for diagnostics ( X-rays ) before I agree to remove any teeth and am told they don’t do that until the day of surgery. So, so counter lets agree the one tooth needs out - can I get a new estimate? $1900. I opt to wait to see if my dog shows any signs of discomfort which never happens. A year later my dog tears her ACL. Vet quotes $2000-2500 for the surgery and says it’s a basic recovery. Ask about my dogs teeth and get told “she doesn’t work here anymore “. Couple days later Get a $5000 estimate. Get told this is a MASSIVE surgery with a half a year recovery from the treatment coordinator. One year later my dog suffers a massive injury ( which I later learned was a fractured femur ) to be told “we don’t accept emergencies - especially on a long weekend”. What kind of a very doesn’t accept emergencies?! Thank god for Waves where we were seen and treated immediately with compassion and kindness when I sadly had to put my dog down. This vet sucks. ** edit. When I called after posting this to let them know to close my deceased pets file I got a super rude man on the phone who said “we do have emergency spots but you’re not a patient” so clearly they aren’t forthcoming about availability or are just cherry picking what kinds of emergencies they want. BARF.

Expérience négative: It was always great with Dr. Gayfer, I’ll give him 6 stars, for managing this clinic very well, until he retired and a very very rude receptionist was condescending and derogatory to my wife who is an ethnic minority; this is not acceptable and shouldn’t be tolerated; and must get fired…After more than a decade with them and several dogs under their clinic’s care we are withdrawing from their services…discrimination should be reprimanded. (- ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️)

Expérience fantastique: Wow! Amazing team at Juan de Fuca Vet clinic. We are caring for my daughter's sphinx cats while she is away... and Pria became very ill with congestive heart failure just before they were due to leave. The vet they saw as another Emergency visit the day she was to leave was exceptional and really helped to support them, explain things clearly, and reassured them we could call if need be. I came in to pick up a new prescription and Irene at reception was exceptional as well and I felt a lot more comfortable dealing with Pria's complex health needs. We saw Maureen (dvm) this am for this scheduled follow up and again very impressed with how well you are communicated with and supported for your pet family. Thank you Juan de Fuca Vet clinic. These wonderful people have helped my cats through a multitude of difficult situations, and provided top notch care and compassion for my little friends. Expérience fantastique: JDF vet has been my vet since we moved to the island 19 years ago. As this was an Air Force posting move, I have been to many different hospitals over 35 years. I have never once thought about changing to a different hospital. I have had many cats (currently 4) & they have all received top notch care. They are always there for the animals & go above & beyond esp when faced with end of life hard decisions. With the pandemic they are pretty full with patients however that doesn't mean that they just say we are full up & cant possibly fit you in, they find a way if it's urgent. I had Dr Stone ,who had a full day already, say to bring my cat & she would look at him between patients. When we discovered that it was an end of life decision she was so supportive. I recommend them to everyone.

We wish we could help all the clients who contact our practice on a daily basis however, like many hospitals, we are faced with limited staffing and doing our best to meet the needs of our existing clientele. Expérience fantastique: Every interaction we have had with members from this Vet has been outstanding! From our first time dropping in to register our family/pup, to having our puppy spayed, having a lump removed, everyone was friendly and helpful. Dr. Blythe Baillie and Dr. Clinton Doering were both amazing with our young puppies (the puppy package is great!). Dr. Doering also helped us with our very sick puppy and went above and beyond in providing treatment, recommendations, and information. Even the receptionists are very kind and welcoming - all true animal lovers! These wonderful people make coming to the vet a breeze - my 2 dogs always get to excited to come to the vet. Overall many amazing experiences here. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!! I come from Sooke as I can't imagine going to any other vet.

Expérience fantastique: Dr. Doering and his staff were amazing with our very fearful and anxious rescue dog! They made our visit as comfortable as possible for our pup and worked with her needs. We have had some less positive experiences at other clinics in the past so we are so happy to have found a clinic with such amazing staff! Expérience fantastique: I can not say enough great things about this clinic! Not only have they been very accommodating to my VERY nervous rescue dog but they were AMAZING when we had to say goodbye to our senior cat Fawkes. We felt at peace when the vet took the time to let us know of our options and the long term outlook of his life moving forward after getting the diagnosis of kidney failure just a few short months before. We weren’t rushed at all and they even gave us an amazing paw print to remember him by. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

I don't usually write reviews, but after the excellent care my Baxter recieved I really wanted to acknowledge the staff for their hard work. A few months ago I took my boy in to get his teeth cleaned and some extractions. Baxter is 11.5 years old and so I get pretty nervous when he gets put under for his dental cleanings, however, he really needs it as his breed is super prone to bad teeth (bad oral health is not good for his overall health). Needless to say, I was so impressed by all the staff throughout the process. They were all so friendly, professional and reassuring, that I could not imagine having taken him anywhere else. The effort they put in to follow up and ensure that I was brought up to speed about Baxter's procedure and post-care, showed me how much they truly care about all the pets that come in. Thank you JDF Vet Clinic!

I am so heart broken and in shock that my girl has left me. She had a great long life of 18 years. It only got better after we relocated in July, just too sad that her life was cut short unexpectedly. (Brain tumor) The care and attention you have provided my girls and the compassion and empathy shown after their passing speaks more than anything Thank you so much for all your help. I truly don’t feel like my dog is in competent care with them. Some of the staff and even the vets are rude, unprofessional, and do not seem to care about providing the best experience for the pets. Expérience négative: Yesterday (Sept 24th) I went to Juan de Fuca to get insulin for my dog - I am not a client, I went with a prescription once the dog's vet didn't have any available. Once I was there, I also requested some syringes because the stock at home was low. The person who was attending was not friendly and did not show the syringes even after asking several times. Instead of helping me, she kept asking technical questions which I couldn't understand why (even after explaining that I know what type of syringes my dog needs). To make everything worst, she was indignant with me because I did not tell her that I was a client at the clinic (I went there before and it was more than a year ago) and she will have to put all the information again on the system under my file. After almost 10 minutes begging to see the syringes that she had available and was refusing to show, a vet came and in less than 5 minutes I was already out of the store, with my dog's insulin and the syringes. At that moment I remembered why I was no longer a customer. I was never so disrespected in customer service as I was in that clinic yesterday. That was the last time I return and I do not recommend it to anyone.
