Veterinary Emergency Clinic: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The staff from the reception to the vet assistants and the vet doctor's were all so patient, kind, thorough and informative. They took amazing care of my cat and also did a follow up call a day later to check in on how she was doing which I greatly appreciated. I feel grateful to have such a professional and caring facility in Toronto.
Fantastic experience: I’m so grateful for the team at this emergency vet clinic. Brook had been crying all night and I felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. As soon as we arrived, the staff acted immediately and were incredibly kind throughout the entire process. The receptionist, vet assistants, and veterinarian all showed genuine care and compassion, which made such a difference during a very stressful moment. Brook is being treated and will be okay, and I can’t thank this hospital enough for their support. Truly a wonderful and caring place.
Fantastic experience: I have always been impressed with the care and thoroughness of the staff at VEC. This experience was no less. Although an emergency held up our time, Dr. French did everything she could to arrange testing and a CTscan for Zenie to be done in the one day which would likely have taken three. Although her specialty is dentistry, her thoroughness found a heart murmer which no one was aware of, and so was checked to ensure he would tolerate the anaesthetic. We appreciate the thoughtful care.
Fantastic experience: We recently entrusted VEC with a dental procedure for our 15-year-old Shih Tzu, Frankie. Given her age and underlying medical condition, she required specialized dental veterinarians and a carefully managed surgical plan. From our very first interaction, the team at VEC was exceptional. They were thorough, compassionate, and took the time to explain every step of the process, both before and after surgery. Their professionalism and expertise gave us tremendous peace of mind. Frankie did remarkably well following the procedure and healed beautifully. We are so grateful for the attentive care and skill the VEC team provided. We would not hesitate to recommend them, particularly for senior pets who require specialized attention.
Fantastic experience: The vet communicated so professionally. My cat was comfortable for her last time with me, and for that I am grateful. The urn they provided is so beautiful, engraved beautifully and there’s no opportunity for spillage because it’s tightly sealed. I loved the extra options they provided like fur clippings and paw prints, which was included for free. I can’t praise the vet enough for the way she delivered the news (which was not great)
Fantastic experience: We went to VEC because our dog had an uncontrollably growing tumor in her ear. Due to improper treatment at another veterinary clinic, our dog had been suffering in severe pain for the past three weeks. The wonderful doctors at VEC gently took our dog for examination and explained everything to us honestly and realistically. From the very beginning, we were informed about all the details and the full cost of the procedure. When we explained that we were not in a strong financial situation, they were very understanding and helped us by keeping everything at the minimum necessary level. Our dog is scheduled for surgery there on February 25. We spoke with many clinics, but none made us feel as comfortable and safe as this place did. We truly hope our dog comes through the surgery safely and recovers well. Endless thanks to your entire team for your kindness and care.
Negative experience: I don’t usually write reviews unless it’s really really bad, but this was one of the worst experiences I have had. Don't get me wrong, the emergency veterinarians were lovely and did a good job, but the receptionists were as rude as they can be. They’re just a money grab, taking advantage of people who are vulnerable and in a state where they can’t think clearly and adding pricing onto their bills without giving them enough time to process it. First of all, my 7 month old kitten just passed away on the Uber ride there and when I arrived distraught holding him, they wouldn’t buzz me in right away; instead another customer saw me crying and opened the door. Next was one of the worst parts and very insensitive. After the vet came and took my cat away to perform CPR, I was hysterically crying and went to sit down. The lady then yells out “Excuse me, excuse me! I need some information from you!”. Like how rude and disgusting is that behaviour. Clearly I am distraught and just witnessed my kitten passing in my arms and that’s what she is so concerned about. Later on one of the vets put us in a private space away from the other customers which was nice, but then she comes in showing me cremation pricing etc. I felt taken advantage of and not in the best space to make any decisions at that point. She then continues to ask me questions and says out loud “Ugh, I’m so tired”, like are you kidding me!! What kind of horrible human being do you have to be to say something like that at a time like that?! Then when she came back with the bill, she has added on a cremation fee as well as another cremation fee for putting his ashes in a jar. I didn’t agree to that and what I take from this is a person trying to upsell you like at a retail store and hoping you don’t notice when you’re not in the right state to. The vets are good, but if you’re wanting real human to human interactions and people that care about you as a human being and your pet, this is not the place to go. You’ll come out with a huge bill and left feeling like you’ve lost hope in humanity.
Fantastic experience: Incredible team of caring vets and specialists, as well as admin staff. Helped us through our pet's emergency with expertise, kindness and compassion.
Fantastic experience: Dr. DeRose from dentistry always takes the utmost care of my dog. Excellent service.
Fantastic experience: We brought our senior pup in very early one morning and were seen right away. The staff were wonderful, especially considering it was 5:30 a.m. Dr. Tyler was excellent, he gave us clear options, took the time to answer all of our questions, and was both empathetic and knowledgeable. We felt very well cared for during a very stressful moment.
Fantastic experience: The staff was warm and welcoming. They explained what is to expect from each step and how long. They helped grow my confidence and trust in their medical skills and care.
Positive experience: The care they gave our Ruby was great. They took good care of her. The clinic is huge with so much going on there. The parking was awkward to get back to our car. The door was locked and we got lost in the parking lot trying to get back to our car.
Fantastic experience: Amazing people. Always kind and knowledgeable. Also not corporate which I would much rather support and it’s cheaper as well!
Fantastic experience: We had a very good experience at the VEC clinic. The internal medicine intern, Dr. Mireille Cardinal listened very carefully to our concerns and did a very thorough physical examination and she was able to explain us the findings and the next steps using easy language to understand. She was very caring and sweet with our dog. Dr. Mason also explain very carefully all the different possible causes for our dog’s symptoms and provided his profesional advice. He was conscious about our economic concerns and he didn’t push us to do a bunch of medical exams, just the essential one. He suggested a reasonable treatment after explaining the results from the test , always polite and professional. Also the front desk staff and the scheduling were really nice and accomodating.
Fantastic experience: Can't say enough about Dr. Danny Derose at VEC. My 12 year old Lab/German Shepherd CARA has a tumour on her jaw line. My usual Vet clinic took one look at the tumour and, without any testing, told me it was a palliative situation. They indicated she should be kept comfortable and they estimated she had from 2 to 6 months to live. They even gave me a brochure on urns and cremation!! I was devastated and felt that I was dragging myself around inside a black cloud. It's called "Anticipatory Grief" and it's a very real phenomenon. Dr. Derose did a thorough set of CT scans and got back to me the very next day, indicating that the tumour had not metastisized and she could be treate by removing a section of her lower jaw. He has done this operation many times and would clearly be competent to do it. Here's where things took an unusual turn though. Sensing how important my dog was to me, he realized that he had a colleague who is considered the top surgeon in Canada for this type of procedure so he had the genuine concern and humility to refer me to her. He could have easily booked the surgery and billed a serious chunk of money for his practice but his primary concern was my dog's well being ..... and MINE!! In a profession currently dominated by big-business buyouts, ruthless competition and a lack of financial transparency in pricing, Dr. Derose is not the rule. He's the exception!! He is gifted in his ability to impart a genuine sense of hope when it is indicated. Dr. Derose doesn't SHOW concern. He IS concerned and that's what sets him apart in his practice. Thank you again, Dr. Derose. By the way, I just read this review to CARA and she blinked. That's the way she has said "YES" ever since I got her 12 years ago !!
Negative experience: I’m extremely dissatisfied with the care and handling of Browny’s case. We brought Browny to your ER for an injury. The surgery and initial treatment already cost a significant amount. Weeks later, when we returned for stitch removal (which we had already paid for), we were charged again and ended up spending another night in the emergency room. The stitches were not removed, and several were left in place. We returned again, paid $150 in Uber, waited over 3 hours after long workdays, and were placed in a tiny room with no clear plan, no prioritization, and no acknowledgment that this situation is the result of your clinic’s handling. Being told “it’s an ER” is not an excuse for poor communication, repeated billing, and unresolved care. Now you are asking us to come back again and put Browny under anesthesia for a third time. I will not consent to additional anesthesia due to the risks, especially when this situation should have been resolved during the previous visits. This is unacceptable from both a medical and customer-care perspective. I expect a clear resolution plan without additional anesthesia and without additional charges for issues that stem from your clinic’s failure to complete the stitch removal properly. Please escalate this to management and provide a concrete solution immediately.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff. The vets were professional, kind and empathetic. My cat Zola has received exvellent care here on two visits, one was for a week and they saved her life.
Fantastic experience: Came here in pinch and they came in clutch. Our cat ingested a couple of pieces of threads, they induced vomiting and the threads came out. It is expensive but that is to be expected from an emergency clinic, a nurse took our cat to the vet within 5 minutes of us walking in and we were out of the clinic within an hour.
Fantastic experience: We had to visit VEC twice within a week with our dog. The staff were kind and patient. Despite the fact, they did not have a neurologist on duty, they immediately directed us to a different hospital for help. At the same time, checked our dogs vitals for free and even offered to help him to the car. We are very grateful of the professionalism and kindness that the staff demonstrated here.
Fantastic experience: I don’t normally leave reviews ever, but me and my girlfriend had an amazing experience with the staff at this clinic helping with our cat Kylo, Thank you so much VEC
Fantastic experience: We rushed our cat to VEC Veterinary Emergency Clinic and they were absolute lifesavers. They bypassed all the wait times, got him on IVs immediately, and ran all the necessary diagnosis in a single afternoon. They turned a 'hopeless' situation into a recovery plan. The team have been amazing. My cat is now stable, eating, and finally coming home today! We can’t thank the team enough.
Fantastic experience: Sadly my 8 year old standard poodle did not survive (gdv) their attempts to bring him back to life. They treated us with kindness and respect and I feel confident they did their best.
Fantastic experience: Great experience with my cat who has a chronic liver disease. He was assessed again this week as he’s been declining after many years and I was incredibly pleased with the care of Dr Mason and his team. They took so much time to ask questions and understand the situation. I never felt rushed or dismissed. (It was a stark contrast from the TVEH in Scarborough- where I recently had the worst treatment and experience of my life.)
Fantastic experience: Millie the English Bull suddenly became very ill on Thursday, Jan.08/26. We rushed her to her local Vet, Juno Vet, on King West. After they examined her they determined she needed to be seen immediately and appeared to have a significant blockage. They called VEC and told them she would be rushed over. One of their vets, on her day off, drove us to VEC. We are incredibly thankful for their help. Upon arrival at VEC, Millie was rushed to have an ultrasound immediately and the surgery was quickly scheduled within the hour. It was a very difficult situation and the initial quote and deposit was significant and overwhelming . Millie is my daughter’s dog and considered old for a Bull Dog. Throughout her stay we had reassuring follow ups and a scheduled visit. We picked up Millie today with her massive plastic head cone and shaved tummy. She is now home resting and tooting up a storm. A very good sign. Although we did not question their estimate the final bill was significantly lower. The surgery was not as invasive as expected and there were no complications. Also note we have pet insurance. In my opinion VEC not only did an outstanding job saving Millie they demonstrated their high ethical standards and code of conduct excellence throughout the entire process. We highly recommend the outstanding team at VEC. Also a big note of gratitude to Juno Vet. Tony and Danielle Mastromatteo Update: Jan 15/26: There was a misunderstanding regarding the final invoice now corrected. The final cost was as quoted not below.
Positive experience: Thank you to the staff and doctors at VEC for providing such excellent care during our recent visit. We appreciate you!!
Fantastic experience: Great staff who are friendly and knowledgeable and always make you feel confident that you have left your pet in good hands.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Mason always provides exceptional care for our pets. He is extremely knowledgeable, caring, compassionate specialist. Over the years we had our pets treated by Dr. Mason and always his diagnosis, treatment plan, follow up was/is fantastic. Highly recommend VEC and their specialists
Fantastic experience: Got referred to Dr Levitt and her team in ophthalmology for my boy because he scratched his eye and it wasn’t healing. They did an amazing job and I’m happy to say that he’s now cone free!! They explained everything along the way, answered all of our questions and were very comforting when I started crying out of worry for my boy. They were just the best! I hope we never have to come here again (no offense!) but if we do, I know we’ll be in great hands. Thanks for everything you do, you guys are all super heroes and we appreciate you so much
Fantastic experience: My 6 month old kitten Teddy suddenly declined one morning and I had to rush her to VEC. They immediately took her to the back and put her on oxygen and kept me updated throughout my time in the waiting room. The doctors and other staffing were thorough with their possible diagnosis and communicated next steps and pricing accordingly. Teddy spent the night in ICU and the team called me for updates when they said they’d call. They saved my cat and while it was expensive, you’d pay any price to save a member of your family. I am so thankful for this entire team and ensure you and your pet will be in good hands here.
Fantastic experience: The entire staff was so empathetic and caring when we had to put our cat down. Everyone treated us with respect (kitty included) even after she was gone. We will never forget their kindness during such a sad time for our family ❤️ thank you VEC
Fantastic experience: I am very happy we chose to come to you for my buddy's final emergency. Compassionate, caring, understanding... Giving my dog pets and rubs as he was being ultrasounded in the back. Putting hearts on his catheter bandage. Your vets and technicians truly love animals and it shows. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
Negative experience: I don’t recommend this clinic. My cat was vomiting blood. We brought him in here because my regular vet was closed. This clinic is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE even for a regular check up exam. Hidden fees. They don’t even let you inside. My regular vet normally let me be part of the appointment. In this clinic, they took my cat into a room and I didn’t hear from him for 2 hours ish. A technician came checked him up but the doctor came 2 hours later. I was freaking out, no answers just a long wait. When the vet came, she told me all the possible issues, she wasn’t even sure what could be the problem, she only provided me with a quote for all the things that would need to be done, and apparently there was nothing wrong with my cat but they charged me $3100 (including overnight care because they wanted to monitor him) they prescribed him meds that are making my cat lethargic and nauseous and he doesn’t seem to improve. I’m heartbroken. They even didn’t tell me why he puked blood. They said they didn’t know. They “run so many tests” charged a lot but no answers after so many tests. And they made me sign a paper mentioning that if I incurred in debt and if they needed to collect money, I would be responsible for paying lawyer fees. I’ve never been asked to sign these type of papers. After all the stress this added more stress to everything I had to go through. In the end, they didn’t solve my issue. It doesn’t bother me to invest in my cat, what bothers me is that after all that money I have no answers and my baby isnt feeling well. I feel scammed. They also said the internaliza who would do the ultrasound would arrive around 5 or 7pm and then once done they would call… they never called back. It’s like they offer to do something but they don’t follow through which is pretty annoying. I expected them to be professional and trustworthy. How can I rely on people who don’t keep their word. My baby was in pain and I was freaking out thinking something went wrong. I had to call several times to receive updates. I would never come back to this place. It is not worthy to spend money in a place that only causes stress and anxiety. The staff should be more compassionate and treat pets with empathy.
Negative experience: This is my first time ever leaving a Google review, but I feel compelled to dissuade others from seeking treatment at the VEC. I brought my 6-month-old puppy in after she ate something I believed might be toxic. She was immediately taken to triage, and I was told that since there was no toxicologist on site, I needed to call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control hotline so their veterinarian could advise the VEC vet. This phone call cost $110 USD. The ASPCA veterinarian clearly explained that, in small amounts, the substance should pass through my puppy’s system without needing intervention. I was then told that the VEC vet would speak directly with the ASPCA vet. After waiting another hour with no updates, I asked if my puppy could sit with me in the waiting room instead of being alone in a kennel. Only then did the vet come out, briefly say, “Looks like you’re good to go,” and provide no explanation, guidance, or even a summary of the ASPCA vet’s recommendations. When I tried to ask questions, I was repeatedly told to “just call the toxicologist.” I certainly did not feel like my puppy was in capable hands. I was then charged $350. For what, exactly? Keeping my dog in a kennel for a few hours and calling another vet? The lack of expertise and professionalism was incredibly disappointing. While the staff was polite and I understand that emergency veterinary work is challenging, charging hundreds of dollars without providing meaningful care or information is price gouging. I've read many other reviews with this same complaint. Please stop taking advantage of people's concern for their pets' wellbeing.
Fantastic experience: It has taken some time for me to write after a traumatic experience. No words could ever fully express the depth of our gratitude to the extraordinary staff and specialists at VEC. After our little guy was attacked a few years ago, the doctors performed lifesaving surgery and gave us hope during the most terrifying moment of our lives. Because of their skill, compassion, and care, our beloved fur baby is still with us today. We will forever be thankful to each and every person who played a role in saving his life. ❤️
Positive experience: It's over a grand deposit just for your pet to be seen, and I'm learning this may vary just like the service here. Initial doctor was stone cold and told us that we either put down another 6 grand now to help our cat, or the other option is to put him down. But then told us to hurry up and make a decision because "i am extremely busy". The daytime vet i spoke with the next 2 days while my cat was inpatient was great and very empathetic so Im putting 3 stars for him alone, and he was very thorough and kind over the phone. Most of the admin staff were kind too except one who I wonder the review below must be about because I had the same experience. Upon one visit this admin told us she would go let the techs know to bring our cat out, usually a 10 minute wait, 40 min later we found out she had never told them at all. I would recommend calling and visiting if your pet is inpatient, as we did multiple times a day to make sure your pet is getting the care youre paying for. This was the only way we found our cat wasn't able to drink out of a bowl they had because of the cone they put on him despite being on a direuretic and increased thirst. I wouldn't imagine leaving my pet here without keeping on top of what they are doing but hopefully ill never need to use this service again.
Negative experience: I don't doubt that the vets and specialists here are incredibly qualified and would take great care of your animals, however, my experience with how this operation is run was horrible, and I would truly urge you to go somewhere else if you are able. I went here over the Christmas holiday as my dog injured his leg and was not putting any weight on it. Other vets were closed or booked and so they recommended us here to be seen quickly. We arrived at noon and they promptly took our dog back. I was prepared to wait as I know other dogs may have more urgent matters, but still expected my dog to be seen. He was not seen by a doctor until around 530pm, we did not get to talk to the doctor until 730 when she told us he would need x-rays, it would cost $1300, and they would need about an hour to do it. 2 hours later, they had not even prepared our dog for the x-rays (sedation take approx 2 hours) so we decided that since he was not a priority to them, we would leave. The vet then told us that he was "in a lot of pain" and that the issue "needed to be resolved asap" - yeah. I know. That's why I brought him in. We decided to go anyways and wait a few days until our vet opened. We did not get to see our dog until 10pm after paying $500 for him to get a single dose of anti-inflammatory.
Negative experience: Brought my dog a few months ago, and I'm honestly confused why the nighttime receptionist, Brunette in a messy bun, pale Caucasian, is working there if she doesn't seem to like people, doesn't like animals, and doesn't like her job, working there overnight. She should be fired or she would resign and look for another job. If she hates her job, she can quit. She will be doing the patients all a favor. Or maybe management should put an audio/video camera where she works so They can see her behavior for Themselves. Would they want their clinic to be represented by her and her attitude to be the face of the clinic and greeted by her? There are hundreds of people who would love her job, but her annoyed attitude, not looking or replying to you (just talk to her computer), and dismissive attitude, is shocking. It's in contrast to warm caring receptionists I've met at other emergency clinics.
Fantastic experience: I just have to share how much I respect the doctors and staff at VEC. My vet referred us there when my little guy started throwing up, losing weight, and they found a mass near his kidney. From the moment we had our consultation with Dr. Ringwood and did more tests, I felt we were in good hands. He was scheduled for surgery the next day, but once they got started, they found some unexpected complications. Even though the outcome wasn't what we initially hoped for, I felt so supported by Dr. Ringwood and the entire team. The daily phone updates after surgery (wish I remembered the intern’s name who called) were so reassuring. The overnight staff was amazing, letting me visit, and the receptionists made sure I wasn't waiting too long. Every doctor followed up quickly whenever I called and had concerns after he came home. This was a tough situation, both emotionally and financially, but I couldn't have asked for better care for my little guy. Huge thanks to everyone at VEC.
Fantastic experience: I brought my dog to the VEC when he suddenly went lame and was in a lot of pain. The staff were very attentive and explained every step of the process. Despite there being quite a few emergency surgeries that day, everyone was calm and pleasant. My dog was assessed within a couple of hours and I was given a thorough explanation of the findings as well as options for further investigations. I felt heard and respected and my consent was requested for every test and treatment. I was told the costs upfront. On discharge, one of the staff helped carry my dog into my car. Staff followed up with me as soon as test results were available and I was given clear explanations with clearly written instructions on medications and how they were to be administered. And my dog responded beautifully to the medications. All in all, I felt that I and my dog were in excellent hands. I would highly recommend the VEC to any pet parent.
Fantastic experience: The wait times can be long, which is understandable, though it’s especially hard when you’re anxious about your pet. That said, the front desk staff are really great about helping you connect with the medical team and providing updates, which made a big difference. The facility itself is very nice, and they took excellent care of my cat, Maple, who underwent major surgery and is now recovering well. Thank you to all of the doctors and staff involved in her care. A special thank you to Sam for being so pleasant over the phone, and to Jason and Ivy at the front desk for all of their help and support.
Negative experience: I came here for a specialist visit with Dr. Mason who diagnosed my cat Max with a Ureter blockage. He advised to proceed with surgery was required to clear the blockage and advised to use the most skilled surgeon with lowest complication rate was Dr. Ringwood. I asked a MANY times about the chance of mortality and I was assured over and over that the only risk is anesthesia. PERIOD. Risks were ONE SINGLE revision surgery required as it's a small area they are working in. Given Max's strong clean bill of health aside of this, we agreed to proceed. Long story short Max went through THREE surgeries (PER THEIR RECOMMENDATION "if we don't, he will die") and was discharged to be euthanized at home. When I picked him up, his health was so deteriorated I knew it was inhumane to keep him alive any longer. He smelled of urine and feces, cried out in pain when he did try to poop, lost 40% body weight (why wasn't a feeding tube put in, was he being fed?). I knew due to the condition of his body, this was a fight that could no longer be fought anymore and it pained me to think how long he was in this condition given they had him for 2 weeks. I was never given a consent form and after researching the surgery myself I read that SUB BYPASS is the best option for this situation given the success rate of the surgery and traditional ureter surgeries are RARELY performed anymore (It's always stents or subs). I questioned why SUB BYPASS wasn't suggested and I was told this is a salvage surgery. The real reason? I found out they never actually done a SUB BYPASS. Further more I asked them how many traditional ureter surgeries they done in the last 12 months, excluding Max, it was 2. Before when I asked about the skill level, they said Dr. Ringwood has done this surgery MANY times, countless where they couldn't give exact numbers. Does this sound like a specialist in the field? 2 surgeries in the last 12 months? Clearly Max's case was far more complicated than what Dr. Ringwood is able to do. We were told that he was the best, lowest complication rate and that he's done so many that they don't know the exact number but post death they admitted to only doing 2 aside from Max. Think about that. Isn't it a little misleading? Given COVID they also didn't let me see Max to make decisions and rarely allowed for ZOOM so I have no idea the care he was receiving but his notes after discharge also stated "Max removed his catheter" as if I believe that and one time that it was blocked... I was given a lot of misleading information. Dr. Ringwood is not only arrogant but rude. When he finally called me after the third surgery since I demanded a phone call. I understandably explained my disappointment given Max was in great health prior to him operating. His response was I needed a therapist. I was very polite so I was a little blind sided by this. Canadian Veterinarians take an oath to promote animal health and well-being and to relieve suffering. I believe Max suffered the majority of his stay at VEC and they did surgeries that shouldn't have ever been done. I've tried to reach out to management but it doesn't seem they care to make any changes to their processes. ALWAYS demand numbers and don't let them rush you. VEC cost Max his life and has left a giant hole in my heart. Additionally, as I've mentioned to management, I recommend they send Dr. Ringwood for client communication courses. I don't care about what education you have, you have zero right to speak to a customer like that. I believe this was surgical error and misleading information. Dr. Ringwood, we blame you. AWFUL DOCTOR, HEARTLESS
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience from start to finish. I took my dog to this veterinary hospital and from the very first moment the care was outstanding, both at the reception and from the veterinary team. You can truly see the professionalism, dedication, and genuine love they have for animals, which as a pet owner is incredibly reassuring. The evaluation was very thorough and detailed. Everything was explained to me clearly, without rushing, and all of my questions were answered with patience and care. They made me feel calm and confident throughout the entire process, which is essential when it comes to a pet’s health. The facilities are well-equipped, modern, and very clean, and the staff is highly qualified. The way they treated my dog was exceptional: with kindness, respect, and compassion at all times. I left feeling very satisfied and grateful for the excellent service and the human quality of the entire team. I would absolutely recommend this veterinary hospital and will definitely return whenever my pet needs care. Thank you for taking such great care of our beloved pets.
Fantastic experience: Busy emergency vet clinic open 24 hours. Staff are empathetic and knowledgeable. Very discreet as I had to humanely euthanized my cat due to a sudden medical condition.
Fantastic experience: Following a dew claw issue, I had to seek assistance, and the experience was very positive. The service was professional, attentive, and efficient. I felt well taken care of from start to finish. I would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: We feel incredibly fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Heather Gray in Ophthalmology at the perfect moment. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Gray and her entire team demonstrated outstanding professionalism, genuine compassion, and exceptional care. We were truly impressed by their expertise, kindness, and the calm, supportive environment they created. We are deeply grateful for the wonderful treatment our furry family member received. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts — we honestly can’t thank Dr. Gray and her amazing team enough!
Fantastic experience: Quick and efficient, but I also appreciated the time they made to explain our options. They saved our cat's life at midnight on Thanksgiving weekend, so it's gotta be 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: All of the staff at VEC are great. My dog had surgery there last summer to repair a ruptured ligament and everyone was very caring and professional. Surgery was explained to us in great detail and they were very helpful in providing resources for her post surgery rehab. Expensive but thankfully our pet insurance covered most of the fee.
Negative experience: I brought my dog to this internal medicine specialist hoping for answers about his ongoing urinary issues that started with an initial UTI. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. During our visits, I felt that my concerns and intuition about my dog’s symptoms were not fully acknowledged, and several of my questions went unanswered. The treatment plan we received was expensive, and the medication prescribed did not help my dog’s condition, they told me my dog now had diabetes insipidus, which made no sense because this all started with a UTI. Over time, his symptoms continued, and I felt something was still being missed. After TWO YEARS of ongoing issues, I sought a second opinion from another specialist. The new veterinarian reviewed my dog’s case thoroughly and identified an untreated bladder infection that could be treated with a course of antibiotics. Which I had suspected all along. My dog finally began to improve once he received appropriate treatment. While I understand that medical cases can be complex, I was disappointed with the overall communication, the cost of care, and the lack of improvement under the initial specialist. I hope this feedback helps other pet owners make informed decisions and encourages more attentive, collaborative care.
Fantastic experience: We have only just started our experience with VEC because our dog was recommended here for leg surgery. We just had our consultation, and I'm really feeling safe and good about getting the surgery done here. Everyone was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I really felt listened too, which is something I don't always feel, so that really stood out. I'm happy my dog will be getting better soon, and the people here are the ones making that happen
Fantastic experience: Brought Theo - 12yr old Dane mix - to have his eyes checked. The ophthalmologist was informative and thorough. It’s a bustling place. I was told that if he needed surgery they have a specialized anaesthetist which made me feel less worried about the possibility. It turns out he doesn’t need eye surgery but he has a lump I’ve been wanting to have removed but was again worried about putting a senior dog out for - so I’ve asked for another referral to see them for this and some hip issues he’s having. Great place
Fantastic experience: Came to this vet yesterday because my dog Ollie had food stuck in his airway. It was super scary and this team handled everything so well. He was triaged and taken in immediately. They updated me quickly were all so kind compassionate. They answered all my questions and offered to call back with any concerns. It was clear they genuinely cared. Thankfully, my dog is doing well. Thank you to this wonderful team. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Dr. French is the best dentist! She took care of our Winston like her own. Other vets called his teeth “a disaster” as his baby teeth didn’t fall out, but now he’s all fixed up. She must have been very gentle with him because his recovery was so easy. We’d be back in a heartbeat!
Negative experience: My wife and I had a terrible experience at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic on Halloween. Our cat vomited a large amount of blood around noon, and his regular veterinarian immediately referred us here for emergency care and an ultrasound. We arrived there at 2:30 PM — desperate, worried, and prepared to wait a reasonable amount of time. When we first arrived, the clinic staff took our cat to the back — and we were not allowed to see him again during the entire wait. We had no idea what was happening with him. Instead, we waited more than six and a half hours while watching countless other clients and pets come and go. Each time we asked for an estimated wait time, we were met with “no comment” and no updates. We were also told not to leave the building because “our turn could come anytime.” It was stressful, disorganized, and frankly unfair. When we finally decided to take our cat home after this exhausting wait, it suddenly “became our turn” — at around 9:00 PM. By then, the ultrasound specialist had already left for the day, meaning the one critical service we came for wasn’t even available. The attending doctor was kind and apologetic, but the visit itself was nearly pointless since our cat had already undergone bloodwork and an exam earlier that week. In the end, we paid a hefty bill for nothing more than an unnecessary consultation. Adding insult to injury, the clinic charged us an emergency fee — on top of already inflated prices — even though we received no timely or emergency care whatsoever. We later requested a refund for that unjustified fee, but the clinic simply ignored us. No response. No accountability. No professionalism. This place operates more like a corporate money machine than a medical facility that truly cares about animals or their owners. It hides behind the word “emergency” while delivering the exact opposite of what that word means. If you value your pet’s wellbeing, your time, your money, and your sanity, do yourself a favor and stay far away from the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. There are plenty of other clinics in the city that are far more reasonable, humane, and compassionate. P.S. The following day, we brought our cat to a regular (non-emergency) clinic for an ultrasound (the whole procedure took half an hour) — and thankfully, he’s still safe and sound. P.S. 2 The clinic responded with an explanation and agreed to refund the emergency fee after I posted this review. We were at least able to recover the amount we paid for the emergency charge.
Fantastic experience: Dr Ringwood is one of the top surgeons in the veterinary field and he’s been able to find immediate solutions for our dog’s issues. Our pup has been a patient of the Surgery team for several years, and they never disappoint when handling our fox terrier. We’re grateful they have treated him successfully for over 10 years now. Always highly knowledgeable, prepared, professional, and use of top medical treatments. Highly recommended.
Negative experience: I normally don’t write reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience with this veterinary clinic. My girlfriend’s dog needed emergency pyometra surgery. Our regular vet at Kahu called around on our behalf and confirmed multiple options. Other clinics quoted approximately $4,500 to $6,000 for the same procedure. Kahu was also provided an estimated range of $5,000 to $8,000 for what the surgery should cost. They made it clear that the only clinic available to take her immediately that same day was VEC, and that VEC usually comes in a few thousand dollars higher. Because of how sick the dog was, and with no other clinic able to take her right away, we proceeded. To make the situation even harder, my girlfriend was extremely emotional and crying nonstop due to how sick the dog was. We were vulnerable, stressed, and focused entirely on saving her life, which made us rely heavily on the information given to us in the moment. We expected a higher bill due to the emergency, but nothing prepared us for what came next. Our final bill ended up being almost $11,000 for about two days of care, far beyond the $5,000 to $8,000 estimate that Kahu had been given. Months later, VEC contacted us again demanding another $1,000, claiming there was an outstanding balance. When we requested a detailed breakdown, many of the charges didn’t make sense. Several items appeared inflated, and even the medications were nearly double the cost compared to other clinics for the exact same products. We tried multiple times to speak with a manager to understand the charges. Instead, we were told: “You either pay, or we send it to collections.” As a business owner, I understand overhead, emergency pricing, and profit margins. But the pricing here was excessive, unclear, and extremely disappointing. My advice to anyone considering this clinic: • Get a written quote before agreeing to anything • Request an itemized list of charges upfront • Verify medication prices, as they were significantly higher here • Do not assume the final bill will match the estimate When your pet is in danger, you’ll do anything to save them. That emotional stress makes people vulnerable, and I hope sharing our experience helps others avoid being blindsided like we were.
Fantastic experience: Excellent hospital. My 14 year old cat Dooley required emergency care on Thanksgiving, and they got him in promptly, The staff demonstrated excellent care, expertise and professionalism. Once he was okay to go home, they were able to quickly book a follow up with the internist Dr. Mason. His expertise and kindness was much appreciated, and my cat loved him!
Fantastic experience: I recently went in at 4 am in the morning as my cat had a urinary blockage. The staff was great so patient and saved my cats life. Would recommend !
Fantastic experience: Dr. Levitt and her team are absolutely incredible. Kind, patient, caring. Seriously refreshing to meet a veterinary team who feels like they are genuinely invested in your animal's wellbeing. We left feeling empowered and taken care of. Dr Levitt, you are doing it right. Thank you so so much, from Paul and his family
Fantastic experience: Most professional and friendly emergency staff ever. Dr. French was amazing with Mylo. Also price estimate is upfront, so no surprises
Fantastic experience: We had a very positive experience with Dr. DeRose and the entire team at the VEC. From the very beginning, the staff was incredibly kind and provided clear, detailed instructions—sometimes over the phone, other times by email—about every step of our pup's procedure. They were also very accommodating in helping us schedule the surgery date, since we had to travel from London to Toronto. During the surgery, the team kept us updated by phone, letting us know how our furry baby was doing and when we could pick him up. Dr. DeRose clearly explained what he found during the consultation, the possible outcomes of the surgery, and his recommendations for our pup's long-term health. His follow-up calls were clear and reassuring, helping us understand exactly what kind of care would be needed during our dog's recovery. We’re truly grateful for the excellent care shown to both our dog and us. For those planning to visit: parking costs around $21 CAD for the full day (valid until 6 p.m.), and the entrance to the VEC is on McMurrich Street, not Yonge Street. However, no matter which side you arrive from, there are clear signs to help you find your way easily.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience in dealing with the ongoing failing health of my dog. Very kind, respectful and professional. They explain what’s happening and the next steps for care clearly. I love the triage approach to care for all and any pets going into the VEC.
Fantastic experience: The other day I needed to bring my hamster (Islington) in to be Euthanized. As she was very sick and dying. The staff were so sweet and caring. They were fantastic. They took care of everything Islington and I needed. They are my Vet from now on. I highly recommend. Big hugs and thank you for being awesome. I take it back. I needed to have one of my rats euthanized and they said that they don't euthanize rodents. Even though they did it 5 months ago. They tried to pretend that it never happened.
Fantastic experience: We visited the VEC Toronto to see an ophthalmologist for our cat. The Opthalmologist Dr. Heather Grey was kind, patient, and absolutely amazing. She explained everything to us in depth. I was really nervous but Dr. Grey's calm demeanor absolutely helped. The technicians both Sabrina and Lisa were top-notch. They absolutely made it easy for my cat to get all the tests done. Sabrina was so kind to me and explained to me every step of the test that was being done. Their patience is much appreciated. My cat was at ease with them. Love the staff here. We were quickly taken in and the tests and doctors consultation was completed promptly.
Negative experience: The worst nightmare! I was there on NYE 2025 for 14 hours with my precious cat who wasn’t used to being separated from me and had never been caged. 14 hours of torture for her. She hadn’t been pooping so they gave her an enema BEFORE her Xray showed she wasn’t constipated! The vet said he couldn’t see anything wrong but if I wanted to leave her for another day he could order an ultrasound. I chose to take her home. The bill was almost $1,500! For NOTHING And when they did give her back she had poo encrusted on her fur. I took her to an amazing vet on King West who asked why the VEC vet didn’t see the tumour in her abdomen. She did a quick ultrasound and saw that two tumours were blocking her intestines. She suggested we euthanize because she was suffering. A few days later we did. But I am still crying and angry that she had to endure the torture of an enema she didn’t need and fear of 14 hours without seeing me! I do NOT recommend for cats.
Fantastic experience: We took our Lagotto Romagnolo dog (WALL-E) into the clinic when he started to sneeze a lot and paw at his nose with some discharge. The attendants and technicians were all very helpful, informative, and kind throughout the process. They got swamped with a few stat emergencies so we ended up leaving before being seen by the doctor (would have been a few hours) - but since his matter could wait until our regular vet opened - we weren’t in as much of a rush. All around great service, understanding, and was appreciative of their approach.
Fantastic experience: Excellent care at VEC. Dr. Chong is a very knowledgeable and professional Vet Cardiologist. Hi team took the time to explain the reasons for diagnostic procedures to us, which allowed us to make the right decisions. Really appreciated this.
Negative experience: Simply awful. No empathy from staff, 4 times more expensive than other vet hospitals. Disorganized with the billing, and tried to charge my neighbour for two dogs, as past patients, that were not hers.
Positive experience: Cat had a late night tumble so we took them in to ensure nothing was broken. Staff were helpful and the vet was very informative. The wait was a little long with little communication but overall was a positive experience
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to have found Dr. Mason at VEC. He is an incredibly kind and knowledgeable internal medicine specialist who truly cares about both the dog and the owner. I had difficult time to book with other internal medicine doctors, but some how I found Dr. Mason. I was reading reviews and decided to give him a try and I feel so lucky that I did. He took the time to listen to all my concerns, followed up on results, and always responded. Now that I need to book an oncology appointment, I’ve had some challenges scheduling, but his team has been amazing sending referrals to other clinics quickly and responding to emails promptly. Dr. Mason and his team are truly exceptional, and I appreciate all their care and support. Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: We were referred to Dr Mason as our dog had some abnormal liver enzyme levels and also raised cholesterol. We were seen fairly quickly for an ultrasound scan. The scan was normal and blood work was repeated revealing improved results. Dr Mason explained everything clearly and discussed next steps with me. All in all, it was a good experience under stressed circumstances of not knowing what was wrong with Leo, our pet bichon.
Negative experience: This 24 hr vet doesn't care about your pet, they only care about money. They are the Highest priced vet in all of Canada and their prices are 3x higher than anywhere else. I was quoted $10,000 for a surgery for my pet. I was able to find another 24 hr vet to perform the same surgery at 1/3rd the cost. I recommend googling '24 vets Toronto' first and calling every listed 24 hr vet first before going here. Only go to this vet as a last option and if you do go, expect zero compassion and expect to be gouged.
Fantastic experience: We arrived early, and were shocked to be called in right away. Everyone we met seemed knowledgeable and compassionate, and Dr. Ringwood had lots of great ideas for treatment options for our cat’s issue.
Negative experience: DONT GO THERE LATER AT NIGHT! Many hours for my dog to get examined by a doctor, more than 5 hours waiting for the doctor. They take your dog inside and don’t tell you anything, they don’t say how long it’s gonna take and don’t care about a dog waiting more than 5 hours to be seen. Terrible. Horrible. If you have an emergency this is not the animal hospital to count with.
Fantastic experience: Such an amazing experience with Dr Heather Gray and her ophthalmology team! Thank you for your exceptional care towards Frank the Frenchie!
Fantastic experience: Dr Irene B saved my Sphynx cat last week. It’s been a miracle recovery. The staff here is phenomenal. If it’s an emergency, come here without hesitation
Fantastic experience: Dr. Berkov was extremely kind, competent, and compassionate. Giving us the time, empathy and information we needed to make difficult decisions regarding the well being of our dog.
Fantastic experience: My dog papichulo just came home from his 2 day stay at the ICU for aspiration pneumonia. From the initial check in, during his stay and the day of his discharge, the whole process was smooth. They take such good care of every patient that comes in and you can tell that they love what they do. They saved my dog’s life because of their loving care and expertise. Their pricing is upfront and transparent. Yes, it is expensive, but thats the cost it takes to save your pet’s life and it’s absolutely NOT price gouging. That’s what pet insurance is for. The doctors and staff are all amazing. I wish I remembered everyone’s names. Thank you Dr. Mason! Papi is very well loved and he’s home with us because of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Fantastic experience: My dog was showing signs of some kind of toxicity, but improved a lot while she was being assessed. Instead of charging for ths exam, they noticed she was getting better fast and said just take her home and come back if you need us at any time.
Fantastic experience: My dog was a patient of Dr Colpitts in the cardiology department. She showed my furbaby and I so much care and compassion over the last few years of his life. He was diagnosed with a heart murmur in 2022 and we were able to get nearly 3 more healthy years under Dr Colpitts care. Dr Colpitts and nurse Chloe showed us both so much kindness and I never felt rushed to ask questions during our appointment. They were transparent, honest and gentle. They always kept me in the loop with finances when trying to scope out appropriate treatment plans. Both of them helped us navigate a challenging time so seamlessly. Would highly recommend Dr Colpitts and Chloe to anyone seeking cardiology care for their pet! They truly went above and beyond to ensure my pets quality of life was prioritized.
Fantastic experience: Words cannot express how grateful I am to the entire team at the dentistry clinic for making Sadie’s dental surgery such a positive experience. Being a German Shepherd, Sadie can sometimes struggle in these situations, but the kindness, patience, and understanding shown to her went far beyond my expectations. From the moment we arrived, through the procedure itself, and even in the thoughtful follow-ups afterwards, every single person treated her with such compassion and care. You didn’t just make her appointment easy—you made it comforting, safe, and full of trust. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking such wonderful care of my girl.
Fantastic experience: My cat (Cashmere) and I had a great experience with the ophthalmology team at this clinic! I arrived 45 mins early (only 15 mins early is required) but they were able to have us checked in, seen quickly, and checked out even before my original appointment time. The techs and assistants were great with handling my cat and the doctor was very informative! I’m very happy with the care we got here!
Fantastic experience: We had a emergency referral from our vet for internal medicine. VEC was able to get us in quickly. Dr. Mason and Dr. Cardinal were fantastic. They took the time to explain everything to us, what tests he would need. Results and treatment plan were done so quickly so we could get our pet on the right track.
Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience at this animal hospital. I brought my cat in for care, and instead of compassion or clear guidance, I was immediately met with an outrageous treatment estimate of $6,000. There was little explanation of why the costs were so high, and no effort to provide alternative options or break things down in a way that made sense. It felt more like a sales pitch than genuine concern for my pet’s well-being. I left feeling stressed, taken advantage of, and worried about my cat. Veterinary care should be about helping animals and supporting families, not shocking people with inflated bills without transparency.
Fantastic experience: My dog has had 2 operations at the clinic and has done very well. The staff were friendly, professional, and responded to our questions in a clear and straightforward manner.
Fantastic experience: I've had to use this clinic several times more my various cats. Sadly, the outcome was never what I wanted, my babies were treated with respect and well cared for. Although it is very expensive, the doctors and technicians and very caring, loving and professional. I would very much recommend this clinic to anyone with a sick furbaby.
Positive experience: Our cat's internal medicine appointment with Dr. Mason was efficient and professional. The staff was very helpful from re-booking to an earlier date, to completing the consult and recommended tests within about 90 minutes, with a full report and a call with Dr. Mason the next morning. What we did not like was the austerity of the consult room, even for a hospital setting, with very noisy ventilation. This did not help with our cat's anxiety during the consult.
Fantastic experience: It was a smooth and good experience here! Dr Degroot helped my cat with his second occurrence of mast cell tumor. He got transferred from a previous vet, and our communication was very efficient, fast and clear. Chewchew got his surgery within a few days and on his way to recover now.
Fantastic experience: We brought our little dog here for an emergency and were very impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of everyone who works at this clinic. The entire staff treated us with kindness and clearly know how to support people in stressful situations like this. They kept us updated, explained every step of the process, and always maintained a positive attitude. It gave us great peace of mind knowing our pet was in the hands of such smart and caring professionals. I say this especially because two years ago we had a terrible experience at another emergency hospital, where the staff did not know how to handle a crisis, left us even more nervous, and showed poor knowledge and willingness. We are very grateful to all the professionals here at VEC for their excellent work and for taking such good care of our pet. I will absolutely recommend this clinic to anyone in need.
Fantastic experience: I had an appointment at the VEC for my dog as he has been showing signs of eyesight loss at night. VEC is always busy even at 7:45am so we had a bit of a wait but I don’t mind having emergencies being taken ahead of appointments. The staff are wonderful!
Positive experience: I had a challenging experience with this clinic, where there were several communication breakdowns and frustrations in trying to navigate a system I don't understand well, whilst overwhelmed with stress. I do feel this clinic needs to improve upon it's communication with clients, if not in the moment, then by means of an updated/functional website, and/or orientation based information package upon arrival of the clinic. There are other reviews about how this clinic will gauge you, and exploit you while you are in distress over your pet. I can't speak to anyone else's experience, but if you have concerns I would encourage you to ask questions and clarify information until you are satisfied. I do believe the staff here are well-intentioned and working within their own limitations. This is the downtown option for urgent pet care, and there is a lot happening with many moving parts. Expect a level of chaos. I changed my view from 1-star to 4-stars because (though it took a few tries and some time) I did get a patient (no pun intended) and thorough callback from one of the head doctors, who took time to explain some of what had been lost, and sincerely apologize for the difficulties I encountered. There was also an acknowledgement to review some of what I was concerned about, and I am hopeful that the next time I interact with this clinic the exchange will warrant the full 5 stars. I believe there is a strong need to both make veterinary care more financially accessible, as well as to de-mystify some of what they are doing and why, because it's not information most of us have. At least for me personally, understanding my options and making informed decisions is helpful for me at the best of times, and especially so when entrusting one of the most precious things in my life to a team of complete strangers. It is unfortunate that some people are having such negative interactions, and that there is not more support for pet-owners with limited income. I really hope more vetrinarian clinics become increasingly sensitized to this, and take steps to advocate at the systemic level. Payment plans are nice and all, but this is an increasing economic issue that requires a more collectivized approach, ie. subsidized clinics, tax write-offs, bursaries, or other materially driven solutions, along with increased transparency and sensitivity for peoples diverse needs.
Fantastic experience: This review is long overdue, but I truly feel I owe it to the incredible team at VEC. Back in May, I took my then almost 14-year-old fur baby, Elmo, to have his teeth cleaned by a mobile service at a pet store. Unfortunately, during the procedure, they somehow managed to fracture the jaw of my sweet 8-pound dog. I was devastated—and Elmo traumatized. When we were referred to VEC, we were fortunate enough to be placed in the care of Dr. French and her amazing dental team. From the start, they were compassionate, professional, and incredibly supportive. Dr. French reassured me that although the fracture was serious, Elmo would be okay—and that meant everything to me. Although the first surgery didn’t have the outcome we hoped for, I was deeply impressed by the team’s honesty and integrity. They were transparent, took full responsibility, and made no excuses. They followed up with a corrective surgery, and I’m happy to say Elmo is now doing great and still enjoying life. To Dr. French, the dental team, the emergency and cardiology staff, and the kind people at the front desk—thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your care gave Elmo more time and gave me peace of mind. I will always be grateful.
Fantastic experience: Experienced, knowledgeable, and compassionate. We appreciate their dedication, and understanding of their client's needs, and trust that the staff are respectful, honest, and have the best interest of both the animal and owner's needs. A very special thanks to the emergency and cardiology department! We are so grateful for their services, particularly during those very emotional and challenging times with a sick pet.
Fantastic experience: We had a good experience at the VEC with our 10 yr old American Bulldog Loki. The consultation, XRay and CT scan were all done on the same morning, making it very efficient. The results of the XRay were communicated to us the same day and the CT scan results the next day. Dr. De Rose took the time to call and explain everything and discuss next steps with us and gave us the reports via email. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable regarding insurance and billing practices.
Fantastic experience: Simply can't say enough good things about this team. Went twice about 5 years apart and had the same excellent service. The last time was when one of my cats was unresponsive and they jumped immediately into action the moment they saw me walk into the clinic. Their compassion and professionalism will never be forgotten and I'm forever grateful in my little guys last moments.
Fantastic experience: Million thanks to staff and especially Dr. Sharon French of @vectoronto for your TLC. My worries were half gone after talking to you when I brought Tommy in. I knew she was in good hands instantly. All other staff were very patient with my questions and kept me updated with Tommy's progress by phone. Instructions were written and also explained verbally in details at time of discharge. Thank you so much Tommy's appetite is back and is recovering well☺️
Fantastic experience: We had great experience with the specialist. I am not at all surprised with all the great comments about dr Mason. He is very calm and attentive. He carefully reviewed all the diagnostic from previous vets, listened to us and provided his thoughts and next steps. We appreciated timeliness a lot. Everything in between was also easy, from scheduling appointments to arriving there.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding clinic and service. My cat was in respiratory distress due to congestive heart failure when I urgently brought her to the clinic. The team brought her in immediately and saved her life. Throughout the multiple day stay in ICU, the staff demonstrated the utmost compassion, dedication and care for her. I cannot thank the team enough.
Fantastic experience: I brought my (almost 4 year old) cat in for a dental specialist appointment thinking that she would need a couple teeth filed down and a cleaning. It turned out that her teeth were in much worse shape than initially thought by my vet, and I made the tough choice to have all of her teeth removed. It was very sudden and not at all what I was expecting when I brought her in, but the staff at the VEC were extremely kind and knowledgeable and made me feel a lot more comfortable with this decision. Dr. DeRose assured me that she would be able to live a happy and healthy life without her teeth, and she is now a toothless kitty! The surgery went extremely smoothly and she is recovering very well at home. I would highly recommend the VEC to anyone going through a similar situation with their pets. Edit: returning a few months later with a quick update. My cat healed incredibly well from her surgery and she is now the cutest toothless cat. I’m incredibly happy that I decided to take the advice of the doctors here, and I think she’s very happy too :)
Fantastic experience: My vet referred me to this hospital because my dog’s condition required a surgery that my vet wasn’t able to perform. They recommended the VEC with specialist dentistry, Dr. Danny DeRose. He was very kind and patient, taking the time to explain my dog’s condition and the necessary procedure. After examining my dog, he provided me with a clear diagnosis and treatment plan. I am really satisfied with his work — he understood the urgency of my dog’s situation and managed to treat him right away without making me wait for another appointment. The staff and nurses were also very kind, taking the time to explain the budget I needed to prepare, knowing that I don’t have insurance. I really appreciated their understanding and support throughout the process
Negative experience: Genuinely the worst experience I’ve ever had at a veterinary clinic. Please avoid this place at all costs. The staff showed zero compassion and only cared about charging outrageous fees. We were charged $600 upon leaving, even though nothing was done other than an IV — despite the fact our regular vet had already performed blood tests, X-rays, chest taps, the day before. They quoted $7,000 for general testing that would not provide guaranteed answers and $1,000 for a chest tap that costs $150 at our regular vet. I understand emergency clinics are more expensive, but this was blatant price gouging. They take advantage of people when their pet’s life is on the line. Absolutely absurd - AVOID. Customer service is not available here. From the receptionists, techs, and Dr’s.
