Burrard Animal Hospital + Emergency: Avis
Expérience négative: I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Burrad Animal Hospital during one of the hardest moments of my life. When my dog passed, the process felt rushed and impersonal. They took him to the back for 20–30 minutes before bringing him out to us, and I barely got any time to say goodbye. Most of the conversation focused on the bill rather than compassion or support. In a moment like that, the financial discussion shouldn’t overshadow basic empathy. I was also never told that the paw prints were done at a different location from the cremation service. That means my dog was transported around without that being clearly explained to me. Finding that out afterward was upsetting. On top of that, no one mentioned anything about engraving options for the urn. I had to call the cremation service myself to ask about it. That should have been communicated upfront. There was no follow-up afterward, no check-in, and no sense of accountability. The entire experience felt rushed, transactional, and lacking compassion. Losing a pet is devastating. Families deserve transparency, communication, and empathy during that time. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.
Expérience négative: I am extremely angry and heartbroken over how Burrard Animal Hospital handled my dog’s final moments on December 26, 2025. He was 17.5 years old, a long-time patient of the clinic, and had been by my side for nearly two decades. When we arrived, he was taken to the back while still alive and was not brought back into the room for 20–30 minutes. During that time, the focus was on invoices and payment while I was left waiting, not knowing what was happening to him. The most traumatic part came after the first injection was given and he had still not passed 20 minutes later. We were told the doctor needed to try again and would have to shave his leg to access another vein. I understand that he was only three pounds and his veins were small and fragile, but the way this was handled was deeply upsetting. The technician was rough while removing the needle and tape from my tiny, dying dog. Watching this unfold in his final moments was incredibly painful. My friend, who is a vet tech at another clinic, was so distressed he had to step in to help. After multiple unsuccessful attempts and repeated poking, we were told the remaining options were an injection into the heart or another organ. The doctor explained that if it was done in the heart, he would be taken to the back and I would not be allowed to be present. I could not imagine being separated from him, so I declined. They proceeded with an injection into the liver. We waited again before the doctor returned and completed the procedure. Slowly, my sweet boy finally fell asleep. I understand that complications can happen, especially with such a small and elderly dog. But during such a fragile goodbye, I expected gentleness, compassion, and clear communication — especially from a clinic that had cared for him for so many years. Instead, the experience added trauma to an already devastating loss. It was also incredibly upsetting that billing discussions seemed to take priority while my companion was dying. After 17.5 years of loyalty and love, he deserved dignity and presence, not to have his final moments overshadowed by financial conversations. Those moments are something I can never get back. Communication afterward was unacceptable. I was not clearly informed that paw prints would be done at a different location from the cremation service, meaning he was transported without my full understanding. Urn engraving options were never explained, and when I asked about ash jewelry or necklace charms, I was told to contact the cremation service myself. These are basic details that grieving families should not have to chase down on their own. There was also no follow-up — no check-in, apology, or acknowledgment of the loss of a dog who had been my family for 17.5 years. The entire experience felt cold, rushed, and transactional. He was not just a pet. He was my family, my companion, and my heart. After 17.5 years together, he deserved compassion and dignity in his final moments. Instead, I am left with heartbreak and the lasting pain of how everything was handled.
Expérience fantastique: The staff at Burrard Animal Hospital helped my dog feel so much better and quickly arranged an ultrasound that allowed them to diagnose her right away. They were so informative and efficient, which really put my mind at ease. I’m so grateful to the doctors and the entire team. The front desk staff truly go above and beyond with their kindness and support, and the communication throughout the entire process was always clear and reassuring. The doctors are knowledgeable, thorough, and seem to know exactly how to help, which gave me so much confidence in my dog’s care. The hospitality and compassion this clinic shows is truly amazing. Thank you so much for everything.
Wow, thank you for the amazing review, Ranvir. We know your pets are like family so we work hard to treat each patient with the same love and care we would give our own. Hearing we succeeded in doing that for you is the best compliment. We're so grateful you took the time to share your experience.
Expérience négative: Very scary experience! I brought my cat in because he was coughing a lot, and the doctor barged in the room and said it was congestive heart failure! He has never had a murmur before and if he did at this vet it’s because he was stressed at the other animals howling. Luckily they didn’t have the equipment they “needed” so they sent me to VCA, and VCA’s check showed no heart murmur or liquid in or around the lungs. Their doctor had the same diagnosis as my regular vet: asthma with a likely secondary infection. The vet has no bedside manner and doesn’t say things like “it looks like it could be this…” just barges in with a life altering diagnosis and doesn’t take any other lack of symptom into consideration. One heart murmur during an incredibly stressful time with no other symptoms doesn’t mean it’s 100% congestive heart failure! Get a second or third opinion if you have to come here, but I would recommend other emergency clinics. Canada West is a good one too. The front desk staff and the staff who took my information in the meeting room were all very kind so this isn’t to do with them.
We’re sorry to hear how distressing this experience was for you, Katherine. Hearing a serious potential diagnosis is understandably frightening, especially in an emergency setting. Our goal is always to assess patients thoroughly and communicate concerns promptly, but we regret if the discussion felt abrupt or lacking reassurance during an already stressful moment.
Emergency medicine often involves discussing possible conditions based on initial findings and further diagnostics are sometimes needed to confirm or rule out those concerns. We’re glad your cat was able to receive additional evaluation and that you have clarity on his condition. Thank you for also recognizing our support staff. If you would like to speak further about your visit, we welcome you to contact the clinic directly.
Expérience fantastique: My regular vet directed me to them and we had an amazing experience with the staff at Burrard Animal Hospital yesterday. I called them that afternoon as my girl had a claw stuck in her paw but not showing any signs of discomfort or distress. Was able to bring her in at 5pm and picked her up by 830 pm. I felt no pressure to do additional testing (although offered) and the cost was on par with what I would have paid at my regular vet. Once her procedure was completed, the vet called me to give me an update. During her intake, the tech was kind and gentle, assuring me that when my girl was in their care, she would be treated as one of their own pets. While waiting in the lobby, I saw the receptionist go out of her way for many patients such as calling other clinics on behalf of them to see if they could get in there faster. The only unfortunate thing was there was a woman there when we arrived being extremely escalated and yelling. Threatening legal action and bad reviews because of the wait - seeing as they are an animal emergency service and just a basic understanding of how triage works, while wait times can not ideal, sometimes it means a chance to be grateful that your pet is not in critical condition, and there were animals there needing immediate attention. This women was so loud she could be heard from the lobby in the exam room which was quite distressing to all the other pets there. I found this to be so disrespectful to the staff and everyone else. But the staff handled it so professionally and gave her more time than frankly I felt she deserved, but to me that speaks to their commitment to serving the animals they care for. Thank you so much! My girl is doing much better today.
Hello Rebecca, thank you for your fantastic review! We are grateful for this feedback as our staff prides themselves so much on providing this gold-star service! Thank you!
Expérience négative: IRRESPONSIBLE SeLFISH Lying/TIME Wasters. 3 people said 2-4 hours. Dropped off at 12:30…called at 5pm…technician not there for the ultrasound? Supposedly he was suppose to be there at 1pm…wasn’t expected to show up till 6pm. DIDNT TELL me. My cat WAITED for more than 4 HoURS! I Rushed BACK. They told be she probably wouldn’t be ready till 8ish. That’s an 8 HOUR wait when my baby could have been at home in comfort. I REFUSE to let any doctors treat any innocent beings with a lower view of importance. We should have had the truth about the technicians/doctors arrival 3 people lied till I called at 5pm, showed up, & got the truth. They didn’t offer a proper excuse, apology, or goal to make things right. I demanded my cat back to take to a place more conscientious of other beings. This place only cares about themselves, their money, & their schedules. Sad ending to a 2+ year relationship with the place…
We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how upsetting it must have been to feel that your cat was waiting longer than expected. Delays in scheduling, especially when they are not clearly communicated, can be incredibly frustrating.
While diagnostic procedures sometimes depend on coordinating team members and equipment, we regret that the timing and updates did not meet your expectations. Clear and transparent communication is important to us and we’re sorry that this was not your experience. If you would be open to it, we encourage you to contact the clinic directly.
Expérience fantastique: My dog, Hank, became ill last Sunday. I brought him to the Burrard Animal Hospital as my regular vet was closed. I was so pleased with the level of care he received from the vet and staff. I was particularly impressed that they had the in-house resources to quickly examine, test and diagnose what was going on. It saved much time and worry. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them or utilize their services again.
Thank you for the great feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a good experience!
Expérience négative: Please have a second opinion before you decide to go to burrard animal hospital emergency. All the good doctors that were working there , not there anymore . They hired students and new doctors to work on your pet . Please for more info search up my name on face book and I will send my dog’s documents and how they have misdiagnosed his issue . My poor dog died , suffering from the lack. Of knowledge and malpractice by this hospital . I will complain to veterinary college and see what we can do . They have charged me so much for some wrong information and medication. Please have a second opinion before you go there . Thank you
We are truly sorry for the loss of your dog, Mahdi. Losing a pet is incredibly painful and we understand how distressing this experience must have been for you.
We take concerns about patient care very seriously. Our veterinarians, including both experienced doctors and those newer to practice, are licensed professionals committed to providing appropriate and compassionate care. We do not take allegations of misdiagnosis or malpractice lightly. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, we encourage you to contact the hospital directly so they can be reviewed appropriately.
Expérience fantastique: They are kind, patient, thorough, gentle, transparent and an all around excellent team - even at 3AM under stressful circumstances. I'm very thankful they've been there for my little Romeo countless times. <3
Thank you for the glowing review, Chad! We know your pets are family, so going above and beyond for you is our top priority. We're grateful you took a moment to share your great experience with us. It keeps us motivated!
Expérience fantastique: The team at Burrard Animal Hospital truly care about the pets coming in. Their passion, dedication and care is very evident. Thank you very much for taking such good care of my cat! ❤️
Hi Isabella, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We know how important your pet is to you because we are owners ourselves and huge animal enthusiasts. We love what we do and reviews like this truly make our day! Thanks again!
Expérience négative: Really do not recommend. They misdiagnosed my cat with HCM and prescribed him unnecessary medicine that he would have been on for life if we hadn’t sought a second option from an actual cardiologist (Burrard do not have one on site and send images out externally/use AI services to diagnose). Very traumatic experience. If your pet has been diagnosed here, please seek out a second opinion from a specialist.
Expérience fantastique: I had to make a very tough decision to help my hamster, Cosmo, cross the rainbow bridge after seeing him rapidly decline. During the process, the staff was kind, professional, and respectful for such a difficult situation for any pet owner. They gave us the time we needed to properly say goodbye to him and made the aftercare process simple and easy. I hope to see them in happier circumstances in the future, but for emergencies needing tact, compassion, and sensitivity, the clinic really came through.
Thank you for your kind words, Kim. We’re honored to have been there for you during both difficult and routine moments and we appreciate your trust in our team. Your support means a lot and we’re always here to provide the best care for you and your pets!
Expérience fantastique: My dog became sick around 2 a.m., and we rushed to the clinic. Vet and nurses were incredibly kind, patient, and professional. The examination took about two and a half hours, and everything was explained clearly and calmly.
Thank you for the great feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a good experience!
Expérience fantastique: My girl was having a tough time urinating. It went on a bit too long and brought her in around 8:30 am. The front desk person was lovely that was on duty. After filling paperwork I did not have to wait long before Cole came and got us. He got all the info he could and then it was a short wait to see Dr.Pletcher. She was very clear and I understood everything as to what would follow. They had to take a urine sample and gave her an anti inflammatory shot because she had an inflamed bladder. They could find anything in house from her urine sample so explained how they would sent out the urine culture and would a few days for results. In the meantime they sent me home with antibiotics for a UTI until the culture came back. She slowly began to improve and fully back to her regular self in 3 days. Will finish the antibiotics and wait to hear results of the culture. My first time at the clinic - I was very impressed by the caring nature they handled Molly with and how they all kept me at ease as well. I would definitely recommend this clinic - not over priced. They also did the paper work and submitted to my insurance provider. Thank you for being there.
We never take positive feedback like this for granted. Exceeding clients' expectations is what motivates us. Knowing we did that for you will inspire our team to keep raising the bar! Thank you! ⭐️
Expérience fantastique: if I could leave more stars I would. 12/10!! My naughty dog decided to eat m&ms and I was in a truly panic. When I called to ask questions, the staff at the front are so kind sweet and knowledgeable! When I first called I spoke with Ramneek and she was so smart and gave me the best solution while staying calm and made sure I took the right steps to evaluate my dog so I didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars. Then when I came in eventually because my dog worsened I dealt with Shaunie who was working at the front. She was so sweet and calm and made both my dog and I feel so comfortable. Shaunie was very knowledgeable and quick getting me in to see the vet. The Vet we spoke to was absolutely fabulous. I cannot remember their name because I was so flustered with the situation but they made me feel so comfortable and eased my nerves while finding a solution for my dog was wouldn’t break the bank and worked for our situation. I think it’s very telling when a vet doesn’t try to sell you on things it shows they truly love their job and want to help. Everyone at this location clearly loves dogs and wants to help to the best of their abilities. Thank you!
Thank you for the glowing review, Nadine! We know your pets are family, so going above and beyond for you is our top priority. We're grateful you took a moment to share your great experience with us. It keeps us motivated!
Expérience négative: I brought my dog to the hospital on the morning of December 30th because he was not interested in eating, and walk really really slow, and his stool appeared black. I was concerned it might be blood and even brought a stool sample with me. The veterinarian examined my dog and was confident that it was not a gastrointestinal issue and that the stool was not blood. Blood work was offered as an option, but based on the veterinarian’s confidence, I trusted the assessment and declined further testing. Instead, we proceeded with an arthritis injection, assuming his symptoms were due to arthritis pain. Sadly, that evening my dog collapsed. We later discovered that he had been bleeding internally for several days, which led to severe anemia. We lost him the following day. I am not writing this review to seek reimbursement or blame, but to help other pet owners avoid experiencing the same heartbreak. In hindsight, I strongly encourage pet owners to proceed with blood work whenever there is a concern about black stool or possible internal bleeding, regardless of verbal reassurance. I also hope veterinarians will consider confirming such assessments with lab work rather than relying solely on visual examination and clinical confidence. I hope this review helps other families make informed decisions and potentially save their 4 legs family member.
Dear V, We are very sorry for your loss and extend our sincere condolences to you and your family.
Thank you for sharing your experience and perspective. While we are unable to discuss specific medical details in a public forum, we take feedback seriously and appreciate your input . If you would like to speak with us directly, we welcome the opportunity to do so.
Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
Expérience fantastique: Had a late night visit for our pup who was in some distress. Great care from the staff and Dr - much appreciated!
Thank you for your heartfelt review! It's our mission to ensure that all clients and furry friends are provided high-quality care. We are so happy that our team could be there for you during this stressful time.
Expérience négative: On December 26, 2025 I brought my 12-year-old English bulldog to Burrard Animal Hospital after her first episode of cluster seizures. The tone was set right away. I was met with indifference at reception, and shortly after, I witnessed a doctor deliver distressing news about another family’s pet in a blunt and incompassionate way in the public waiting area rather than in a private treatment room. That same tone carried directly into my own interaction with Dr. Paulette Stewart. Dr. Stewart presented a broad $2000 estimate and approach that effectively tested “everything” to rule out non-neurological causes. What I needed, and repeatedly asked for, was discernment and clear medical reasoning: which tests were truly indicated based on her specific case, history and symptoms, what each test was actually assessing, and what the realistic likelihood was that certain systems were relevant to seizures. After the initial consult, Dr. Stewart routinely sent other staff members back in to respond to my questions. These were staff members who were not equipped to answer medically informed questions about testing or seizure medications and who could not explain the rationale beyond reiterating the full testing panel. When I asked to speak directly with the doctor so we could make informed decisions, Dr. Stewart told me I had “upset her staff.” During a medication explanation, Dr. Stewart advised that a medication was “so your dog doesn’t become a vegetable.” That language was deeply inappropriate and blatantly tone-deaf during a scary and emotional medical crisis. I also had to push to have preventative seizure medication prescribed and was told I was receiving it “as a favour” because I was being “difficult.” For sudden-onset cluster seizures, preventative anticonvulsant therapy is standard interim care, not a favour. Framing it as a favour was both unprofessional and inconsistent with responsible emergency veterinary practice. This experience raises serious concerns about the clinic’s ability to provide trauma-informed, compassionate emergency care. People need and deserve compassionate, respectful communication when their animals are experiencing medical emergencies. I left feeling unsettled and deeply concerned about the quality of care being delivered when families are most vulnerable. While this was sadly not my first negative experience at Burrard Animal Hospital, it will be my last.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Jen. We are very sorry that your experience left you feeling unsettled during such a stressful time for your dog. Our goal is always to provide thorough medical care while ensuring clients feel informed and supported.
We take your concerns about communication and tone seriously and will review them internally. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and wish you and your dog the best.
Expérience négative: I am writing this review to share my personal experience and to seek a fair resolution. I brought my dog to this clinic due to a uterine infection. I was informed that blood tests and X-rays were required and was initially quoted $1,620 for diagnostics. The final amount charged for the tests was $1,506. After receiving the results, I was told my dog urgently needed surgery and was quoted $4,722. When I questioned the cost, I was told that veterinary pricing is not regulated and clinics can charge whatever they choose. Due to the extremely high cost, I sought a second opinion. Using the exact same blood work and X-rays, another clinic performed the same surgery for $2,300. I also asked what the diagnostics would have cost at that clinic if done there, and I was told approximately $650. This means I paid more than double the typical cost for diagnostics at this clinic. While I understand that prices can vary, such a significant difference without clear justification is concerning. Given this information, I believe I was overcharged for the diagnostic tests, and I am respectfully requesting a partial refund for the excessive portion of the fees charged. I hope the clinic will review this matter professionally and address it in good faith. I am sharing this experience so other pet owners are aware and can make informed decisions, especially during stressful emergency situations. I cannot recommend this clinic based on my experience.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Hossein. We understand that veterinary care can be stressful, especially in emergency situations, and we’re sorry to hear that the costs were concerning for you.
Our pricing reflects the time, expertise, and resources required to provide thorough diagnostics and individualized care for each patient. Estimates provided are based on the information available at the time of the visit, but the final cost can vary depending on a pet’s specific needs on the day of care.
We take concerns about pricing seriously and would appreciate the opportunity to review your visit with you directly. Please contact the clinic at (604) 738-5683 so we can discuss your experience and answer any questions you may have.
Expérience négative: They will do treatments your dog does not need and recommend even more. Most recently had to wait over an hour after our appointment was scheduled and had to leave before the doc could see our pet. No apology just sloppy work
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Hiroe. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We always aim to provide care and recommendations that are in the best interest of each pet and we apologize if there was any frustration with wait times or communication during your visit. We take concerns about scheduling and service seriously and would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail. Please contact the clinic so we can address your concerns and provide any clarification.
Expérience fantastique: I showed up on a Saturday morning at 6:30am with my senior dog who was unable to walk. 2 vet techs ran out to my vehicle with me and helped me carry him inside. Jack was immediately brought to the back where they performed a rapid assessment. Although the news was not good, the vet and other staff were all very supportive and allowed me to be in an exam room with Jack for several hours while I had my husband on video chat to say goodbye. They gave him pain medicine and IV fluids and were very attentive. I heard the clinic get busier throughout the morning, but never felt pressured to hurry up and clear the room. I sat with Jack after we let him go for a long time. On the worst day, the staff at Burrard Animal Hospital made things a little easier. I sincerely appreciate everything you did for us.
We sincerely appreciate you for sharing your thoughts, Melissa. Saying farewell to our beloved pets is never easy. We feel privileged to have a team of dedicated professionals who offer compassionate care to make this challenging journey a bit more manageable. Should you ever have any questions in the future, please feel free to reach out to us anytime.
Expérience fantastique: We've taken our rats here on three different occasions for emergency appointments. We've had three different vets/techs/receptionists, and every time they are all so kind and thorough. We'd 10/10 recommend this clinic!
Hi Brittney, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We know how important your pet is to you because we are owners ourselves and huge animal enthusiasts. We love what we do and reviews like this truly make our day! Thanks again!
Expérience fantastique: I’m so happy that I brought my dog to this hospital! My dog had surgery on his legs at another clinic in downtown Vancouver, but unfortunately, it got infected afterward. I rushed him here as an emergency late at night, and they performed surgery the same night. He stayed overnight, and the care he received was excellent. Even though I brought him back several times after surgery for check-ups, dressing changes, and follow-ups — and sometimes the doctors or staff were different — the care was always professional, and the results were great. I’m very satisfied and grateful for how everything turned out. Now I even bring him here for his vaccinations, and I recommend this hospital to everyone I know who has a pet. Truly one of the best veterinary hospitals I’ve ever been to!
Thank you for your heartfelt review! It's our mission to ensure that all clients and furry friends are provided high-quality care. We are so happy that our team could be there for you during this stressful time. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to give us a call.
Expérience négative: Phoned in about young female dog at 9:40pm on Sunday. She looks to be pregnant, was apparently attacked 3 days ago. The dog is unregistered, she is not at all vicious, she is in pain and needs care. Her wound is very deep and was covered with dirty duct tape, no food or water in sight. The girl who answered the phone at Burrard Animal Hospital, Lai, was not helpful in this situation at all. Her advice was that they would not even look at the dog without funds. I asked to speak to the veterinarian or to leave a message for her/him to please contact me with advice on how to care for the dogs wound until SPCA is open or Humane Society can be contacted for financial assistance. Her answer "NO" No message, no advice, no help for this poor girl and her unborn pups. I am appalled.
Hi J.R.,
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We understand how distressing it can be to encounter an injured animal, and we truly appreciate your compassion in trying to help her.
While we do our best to guide callers in situations like this, our hospital is limited in what we can provide for stray animals without an identified owner. In these cases, we refer to the appropriate authorities—such as the SPCA or the Vancouver Animal Services Pound—who are equipped to respond to injured or stray animals in need.
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and for your care for the animal. Please feel free to contact us directly if you would like to discuss this further.
Expérience fantastique: Visited at 2 am when my dog was having scary coughing/choking fits. Dr. Ira and the team were great, calm and patient. We received good care including an immediate physical exam and X-rays. My dog was home with appropriate treatment and medication within hours. So grateful!
Thank you so much for the kind review, Sophie! We understand how stressful it can be having a member of your family in the hospital. We are glad we could make it a little easier for you.
Expérience fantastique: Oh my goodness! I thought this was a different vet and accidentally gave one star. I have been here twice and they have given my dog the best care and support. If I lived closer to this place, I would go here often. Thank you for your support and love. Omar and Milo
Thank yo so much, Omar! We strive to provide the best care and service to all our clients!
Expérience fantastique: I brought my dog in early one morning for an emergency, and Dr. Ira and his team were absolutely wonderful. We were seen promptly, and they gave my dog such attentive, compassionate care. Their attention to detail and calm professionalism made a stressful situation so much easier. I’m so grateful for the kindness and expertise of Dr. Ira and his staff — truly exceptional service.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Samantha! We strive to provide compassionate and professional care and it’s rewarding to know that our efforts made a positive impact.
Expérience fantastique: I can’t say enough good things about the team here. My cat and I are (unfortunately) regular visitors, but every single time, the staff make a stressful situation so much easier. From the front desk to the vet techs to the vets themselves, everyone is kind, empathetic, and thorough. They always take the time to explain options, walk through costs, and make sure we both feel cared for and understood. I trust them completely.
Thank you for the glowing review, Clare! We know your pets are family, so going above and beyond for you is our top priority. We're grateful you took a moment to share your great experience with us. It keeps us motivated!
Expérience fantastique: The team here saved my 9yo bun from stasis, caused most likely by stress from a recent dental surgery. They gave me regular updates, let us visit him periodically, and overall took fantastic care of him. Honestly, even if he didn't make it I'd have to give them 5/5 just cause I know how hard they work and how fragile buns can be, and the frequent communication let me know they really cared. BUT HE DID MAKE IT AND I AM HAPPYYYY my whole fam is overjoyed
Thank you for your heartfelt review! It's our mission to ensure that all clients and furry friends are provided high-quality care. We are so happy that our team could be there for you during this stressful time. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to give us a call.
Expérience fantastique: Despite how stressful having a sick pet is, I had such a great experience will all of the staff. They were so understanding, quick, and reasonable. I’d definitely recommend them :)
Your kind words mean so much, Molly! We understand how worrying vet visits can be, so we aim to ease every pet parent's concerns. Thank you for entrusting us with your fur baby - we don't take that responsibility lightly! ⭐️
Expérience fantastique: I found a lost dog in my neighbourhood. I took her down to the Burrard Pet ER, and the technician scanned for a microchip and found the owner's contact info. Doggie and owners have been reunited. I am very grateful to the technician. He was very helpful and considerate, even though the clinic was busy.
Thank you, Audrey! We strive to provide the best care and service to all our clients!
Expérience fantastique: Really positive experience. My daughter’s hamster wasn’t well so I popped in with her late on a Saturday. The tech and I chatted and she took a look at her, they didn’t have a vet trained in exotics in overnight so she booked us in to the very first open space the next day. Everyone we met was so warm, and kind with my little girl and her little hammy. Dr. Basi explained what he was doing and let her watch while he listened to her heart and lungs with his little stethoscope. We’re home with a 7 day antibiotic treatment, and a new found appreciation for this great emergency animal hospital in the neighbourhood.
Hi Kate, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We know how important your pet is to you because we are owners ourselves and huge animal enthusiasts. We love what we do and reviews like this truly make our day! Thanks again!
Expérience négative: So far the worst emergency experience that I’ve ever come across due to miscommunication, disorganisation and negligence of staff especially the vet specialists. I took my dog to the clinic with a prior appointment and was charged for almost 2k for an x-ray diagnosis procedure. The doctor literally spent only around 10min as a post diagnosis assessment, and a vague outcome was given with literally no further indication on how to proceed. I was then advised by three different vet assistants with even more vague information and estimates on surgery cost. Almost three days have passed, and no one bothered to follow up including the doctor in charge with the case. When I followed up myself, I ended up receiving “sorry we were busy” from the administrator. If the clinic can’t align the high service fees with what is actually provided, then it’s time to shut it down.
Hi Sina, We’re very sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations. Communication and follow-through are essential parts of the care we aim to provide and we understand how concerning it can feel when things don’t go as expected, especially during an emergency. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will be reviewing your feedback with our team. If you would like to discuss your pet’s case or any outstanding questions, please contact us at the clinic so we can help clarify next steps.
Expérience fantastique: ***Update**** My pup and I visited the hospital again today and received care from Dr. Nair for the second time. As I experienced in my last visit, he was compassionate and had exceptional attention to detail. His assessment was thorough and he treated my nervous dog with kindness and compassion. I felt absolute confidence in his expertise and capabilities in diagnosing my puppy. Thank you again to a wonderful vet team! Note picture of my dog with hypoallergenic treaties kindly given to him by Dr. Nair! First visit: After my dog experienced a worrisome eye injury, I visited Burrard Animal Hospital today for emergency care. From the team at reception through to the vet and vet nurse, the care and attention my puppy received was exceptional. They were kindness itself to both me and to my pup during what was a stressful time. Significant thanks to their entire team- you are absolute stars and I am so grateful for the care you gave him.
Wow, thank you for the amazing review, Rachel! We know your pets are like family so we work hard to treat each patient with the same love and care we would give our own. Hearing we succeeded in doing that for you is the best compliment. We're so grateful you took the time to share your experience. ⭐️
Expérience positive: Took my dog here for an emergency appointment. They were quick to see her because of my concerns, and the price point was reasonable. The vet and front desk were friendly, though the vet techs seemed uninterested/irritated with the situation - may have just been a stressful evening.
We work hard to give every pet parent and furry patient a positive experience, so thank you for showing us where we can improve. Providing excellent veterinary care is our top priority. Thank you for helping us grow!
Expérience négative: Will never be taking my dogs to this location again! Has severe issues with most basic level of patient care. Consistent issues with charting when my Dog was in the ER pertaining to switching off to different doctors throughout her stay. Cannot get together charting of scripts and consistency. even getting a referral out to locations and patient history. This is basic level stuff that I’ve had to pull teeth to even get them to respond to or follow through on. Talk to my best friend she a vet all of this was extremely concerning. Do not take your dog or animal here!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Alena. We understand how important clear communication and continuity of care are when your pet is in hospital. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t reflect the standards we strive for. Our team works hard to ensure smooth coordination between staff and timely updates to clients and we will be reviewing your concerns internally to continue improving. If you’re open to speaking further, please reach out to us at the clinic so we can learn more and assist you directly.
Expérience négative: Once again the service here is dreadful. Siobhan answered the call. WhenI asked to speak to a vet, she has a poor attitude and she was very aggressive. This place is a mess. Most places in Toronto you can call to speak with a vet no problem and determine the urgency. It is close to my house and that’s the only reason I have gone for my cat’s medication. I highly advise against it. And Siobhan should learn how to speak to people. If she doesn’t like her job. Quit.
Hi Lisa, we do not have a staff member named Siobhan. Our qualified Vet Techs can determine the urgency over the phone as our Vets are busy seeing patient's and treating in hospital patients. Can you please contact me to discuss this review - Corina
Expérience fantastique: Burrard Animal Hospital is absolutely amazing! We had to take our cat here as he was breathing very rapidly. They took such good care of him and us as well. He had to stay in the ICU oxygen chamber but they allowed us to visit him throughout his stay. A huge thank you to the whole team for saving our beloved kitty!!
Expérience fantastique: I’ve had to take both of my cats here on separate occasions and I’m so grateful for how attentive, caring and kind the staff are. You can tell how much pride they take in their work and they have an incredible amount of compassion for pet parents who are scared and emotional. Thank you for caring for my cats in the way you have.
Expérience négative: I took my dog Venus to this vet twice, and both times they couldn’t tell me what was wrong with her, despite charging very high fees and running multiple tests. Every time I asked, the answer was “we don’t know,” but they would still give me alarming scenarios that only made me worry more. On the second visit, they ran eye tests and prescribed some drops “just in case,” without a clear diagnosis. After 5 days with no improvement, I went to another vet who immediately identified the real problem. In conclusion, I spent a lot of money here without getting any real answers or solutions.
Expérience fantastique: These guys are so amazing with my cats. One of my cats is really nervous at the vet and they always take the time to make sure she's feeling comfortable and work with her instead of forcing her into anything. I go to them for regular vet checkups but last week Lila cut her foot and was bleeding badly so we went in for an emergency visit. They took her in immediately to stop the bleeding and were so great about updating me with everything when I had to leave her for a few hours. They always check in and respond quickly to texts/emails when I have questions about if things in her healing process are normal. It seems like they try to include owners in the process if possible. Dr. Cheng asked if I was comfortable holding Lila while she changed her bandage. She was so much more comfortable like that and it ended up being a pretty painless process.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience! Brought my hamster here for an emergency and they were very knowledgeable and kind. It's great to know that there is an emergency vet for pocket pets. Edit: Unfortunately after a month long fight, we needed to help my hamster cross the rainbow bridge. I just wanted to share that throughout this entire process from the first time we brought our pet in, Dr. Dhillon and the team at Burrard were so kind and considerate, and were amazing at being accessible and communicating their advice. They were all sensitive yet professional, and there is no other team I can imagine trusting my pet with.
Expérience fantastique: I’m writing down this review with my greatest gratitude. The crew professionally took care of my bunny and was trying their best to help her, even though she did not make it through. Thanks for giving me enough time to say bye to Bunbun.
Thank you for your kind words during such a difficult time. We’re so sorry for your loss. Bunbun was clearly deeply loved, and we’re grateful you had the chance to say goodbye. Our thoughts are with you.

Expérience fantastique: The team at Burrard see both my cats and have always been amazing. My little guy Louie is extremely anxious and they take so much care with him. I've never had to wait long for an appointment, though walk-ins can take time because they also treat emergencies. I'd highly recommend, I appreciate that if I have a pet emergency the team already knows my cats.
Thank you for the wonderful review! Louie and your other cat are in good hands with our team. Your trust and recommendation mean a lot.

Expérience négative: We brought our bunny in for an emergency. They took her to assess right away but then told us her "vitals were stable". We then filled out a form and waited for something like 20 minutes (a pet food delivery guy came, unloaded everything, and left during this time). We almost left but then called us into a room. The level of urgency was shockingly low. There we have a bunny unable to even stand up, and they wanted to get their weight, we had to insist on taking temperature (they kept going into the back to check everything with the vet who wasn't in the room yet), and of course the temperature was too low. While they continued to take their time the vet themselves FINALLY came in the room and just gave vague information. We insisted on giving fluids of some sort, just do SOMETHING. She was deteriorating right in front of our eyes. By then she had lost control and stopped breathing, and they finally tried to give IV fluids but her blood pressure was too low for it to work. They did not tell us clearly what was going on, and the vet seemed to be barely able to say that he recommended we put her down. It was surreal and traumatizing to witness that kind of "emergency" care.
Thank you for your feedback, Karl. We're truly sorry for your loss and understand how painful and distressing this experience must have been for you. While we recognize how difficult it is to lose a beloved pet, especially so suddenly, it's important to note that given your bunny’s condition and age, the outcome may have sadly been the same despite all efforts. That said, we hear your concerns about communication and urgency, and we’re taking them seriously as we strive to provide the best possible care in every situation. Our hearts go out to you during this difficult time.

Expérience fantastique: we had an amazing experience here with our emergency situation with our dog! everyone was very kind and explained thoroughly the process which was very appreciated. only downside is that the day of emergency, one of the vets was extremely unprofessional while running through our quote. The tone of voice was condescending and monotone, sighed multiple times and was slouching over while speaking to us. Had to request the actual vet back because I felt like I was being talked down to as if I knew nothing and was forced to quickly agree to everything with no explanation. In the moment of shock and fear in the situation with my dog, I was shocked to encounter this type of behaviour, it jolted me back to reality with how poor her attitude was. We did go in the evening so it may have been an off day or she was tired, understandable, but that was truly one of the worst experiences I've had by someone who is supposed to be helping and supporting us.
Hi Wendy, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and for your kind words about our team during such a difficult situation.
I appreciate you taking the time to share feedback about your interaction with one of our team members. Your perspective is valued and we are always looking for ways to improve. I tried to reach out to you this morning to get a bit more information and are hoping to connect with you soon.
Thank you again for trusting us with your dog’s care — we’re wishing you both all the best!

Expérience fantastique: My puppy got into a bottle of Advil and required emergency medical treatment. The staff at Burrard Animal Hospital were caring, efficient, and very straight forward. Whenever I called, they picked up after the first ring. The vets, technicians, and staff took the time to inform and update us throughout the incident. Emergency vet treatment is expensive, but the staff here clearly explained what needed to be done and why. I felt confident that the treatment plan was comprehensive but not excessive. I hope I never need to seek emergency treatment for Olive ever again, but if I did, I would come back here.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re so glad Olive is okay! It means a lot to hear that you felt supported and informed throughout the process. We’re always here if you ever need us.

Expérience fantastique: We had to say goodbye to our dog suddenly and unexpectedly, and the vets and vet techs were incredibly kind and compassionate. They allowed us to spend as much time with him as we needed and didn’t rush us as all. Thank you so much for making a really awful time feel a little more manageable.
Thank you for your kind words. We’re so sorry for your loss and are grateful we could provide the care you needed during such a difficult time. Our thoughts are with you and we hope you take care

Expérience fantastique: My recent visit and experience with Dr. Sewell was fantastic. She was respectful of our time and comfort level of us and our dog (who is historically quite anxious during vet visits). She took the time to establish a connection with him and navigated the appointment with professionalism and care.
Thank you, Trevor! We're so glad that Dr. Sewell made both you and your dog feel comfortable and cared for during the visit. We appreciate your kind words!

Expérience fantastique: I had to bring my Labradoodle in the other night because he ate something he shouldn’t have. Dr. Devon Pletcher was very professional and could see the distraught look at my face and helped me feel confident that she knew what to do. The support staff were all very friendly and helpful. My dog came over there, happy and healthy and not stressed.
Thanks for the review Justin. We are sure glad the non-food material came out! Hoping your adorable Labradoodle is feeling better now. Great picture :)

Expérience négative: I wish I could rate my experience as less than 1 star. We brought our dog to this hospital in respiratory distress. It was hard for the veterinarian to figure out if he was in distress due to his heart or collapsed trachea. Even though we reported he had these pre-existing issues, the veterinarian still wanted to do imaging to see the cause of his distress. What would be the point of imaging? He was already in distress and we knew the reason: heart or collapsed trachea. He urgently needed symptom relief and not to suffer terribly and unnecessarily for another 18 hours before dying at home. We should have been told he was dying (which he clearly was at that time) and he should have been palliated. It is not as if our old dog was a candidate for any sort of surgery or heroic intervention. All he needed was not to suffer, and yet we were sent home with him suffering terribly and eventually dying in our house. Shame on you, the attending veterinarian, and your "care" for our suffering dog. Response to reply: Thank you for the response and condolences. He was not stable leaving the hospital. His respiratory rate was elevated, regular wheezing episodes have been reported, and his breathing was laboured. Bloodwork was not offered (and thus not declined by us), only imaging. Based on his history, he would not have been a candidate for interventions that imaging would indicate, other than symptom relief. If we were told that he could not last for long in respiratory distress he was in, our decision-making process would have been different and we would have opted to treat his symptoms. A dog who has been in respiratory distress for a number of hours by the time he was seen at your hospital (regular episodes of wheezing, laboured breathing, abnormal respiratory rate of around 50), did not have time to follow-up with a regular vet. These are not ravings of a grief-stricken owner (which I am), but simple statements of fact: he was not discharged in a stable condition, and he did not have time to follow-up with his regular vet. Had that been properly assessed and his history taken into account (older dog of unknown age, known heart murmur, known weak trachea), the writing on the wall would have been clear without imaging, and recommendations could have been made based on current presentation and professional opinion about trajectory for an older, co-morbid dog like him. But that is fine, I will not continue this exchange here. If you bring his case for a discussion among vets and the consensus is that any of them would have done the same, and one of them is willing to provide charting to that effect, then I will take down this review. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience, and we are deeply sorry for the pain and distress you've gone through with the loss of your dog. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
You came as a new client and your dog presented after an episode of collapse earlier in the day, with signs of lethargy, laboured breathing, coughing, and wheezing. During the exam, the veterinarian observed increased respiratory sounds and effort, and the known heart murmur. There was no cyanosis, crackling, or wheezing, and all other aspects of the exam were within normal range. Given the symptoms, the vet recommended imaging and bloodwork to help identify the underlying cause of distress, which could have provided more clarity and allowed us to make the most informed decision for symptom relief. We understood the urgency of the situation and aimed to ensure your pet's comfort. After discussing with the vet, you chose to decline diagnostics and follow up with your regular vet instead, which was supported as your dog was stable leaving the hospital. It can be challenging to provide assistance if diagnostics are declined and you intend to follow up with your regular vet.
Again, we are so sorry for your loss and the suffering your dog endured. If you'd like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach out. Your feedback is important to us as we continue to improve the care we provide.

Expérience fantastique: We were so impressed with Dr. Pletcher and assistants last night! We have a really hard time finding emergency after hours care when it comes to our rabbits. All staff were warm, welcoming, kind, and really took the time to relay detailed information and updates for our elderly rabbit in GI stasis. They really showed their empathy and compassion.
Thank you for sharing last nights experience. Dr. Pletcher and the team are very grateful for your review. We hope your rabbit fur baby overcomes this ailment very soon.

Expérience fantastique: I arrived late at night last year with my older puppy in cardiac arrest. The doctors and nurses were sympathetic and supportive and clear. Dr Wong was especially wonderful as I dealt with putting down Zoe. She walked me through all the aspects of her final moments and I felt very thankful that she was on call that night.
Thank you for your review Jenn. I am so sorry you have had to go through such a challenging time with the loss of Zoe and I hope you are doing okay. Dr. Wong and the team appreciate your kind words and we are here for pets and their guardians 24 hours a day.

Expérience fantastique: I am forever grateful to the Doctors of Burrard Animal Hospital. They are the kindest group of people who genuinely care for their patients (pets and owners). My George came in with a UTI and they tended to him and every time I had to leave George I knew I was leaving him in the hands of people who love and care for their 4 legged patients. Thank you to all the doctors and techs who cared for my George.

Expérience fantastique: I have taken two of my hamsters here in the past month, one on an emergency basis, and they were both treated with incredible care. The vets here have been knowledgeable and confident with them, which is something we have struggled to find. I feel confident that they are properly cared for when i bring them here. I also appreciated how cost effective both visits were, which included an exam + medication! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re so happy to hear your hamsters got the care they needed and that you felt good about the treatment. We look forward to continuing to care for your fur family in the future.

Expérience fantastique: I brought my dog here after she got into some dark chocolate. They were incredibly efficient. I was able to touch base with the doctor within 30 minutes to review. They took great care of my girl and were very friendly as well. Highly recommend if you need urgent care for your pet!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're so glad we could help your dog and appreciate your recommendation.
Expérience fantastique: Highly recommended! I brought Jasper in here Saturday around midnight as he was throwing up multiple times and it wouldn't stop! He was able to be seen pretty quickly, and they were very upfront about the costs ($135 for the vet exam), and they took us to a room! They took Jasper back to check on his vitals, and since he was very stable (and hadnt thrown up in a while), they checked on another animal who was having a bigger emergency at the moment. The vet (Dr. Nair) then came back and gave me the lowdown on all of the things he checked on Jasper, and what he thought it could be! He gave us a couple of options, from the more expensive xray, to giving him some anti-nasuea medication, fluids, and some take home drugs as well! They handled it incredibly well, Jasper felt very well taken care of, and my biggest worry (expensive unexpected vet bills), were cared for as they were very upfront on prices and didn't perform anything without telling me the cost! I also found the lights in the lobby a very sad but wholesome thought to make a pets last moments a bit better.
Thank you kindly for sharing your experience and your pictures. We are glad to hear Jasper is keeping his food down and hopefully he feels back to his usual self very soon.

Expérience fantastique: All the vets we've worked with at the clinic have been fantastic, and their vet techs as well. They are a Fear-Free vet clinic, and are super patient with my pup. They write notes in their system about his likes and dislikes so he can be comfortable when he visits. I recommend this vet clinic – the bonus being they are open 24/7 (very convenient for many reasons, including med pick up).
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that both our vets and vet techs have provided great care for your pup. We’re proud of our Fear-Free approach and glad the personalized notes help keep your pup comfortable. It’s also great to hear you find our 24/7 hours convenient. Expérience négative: I had half the money to put my suffering cat down in mid of the night and even though I have always paid them. Have a strong reliable reputation with them they refused to put my cat down and let me pay the remaining 250 dollars in a few days. Just saying I think vets need to allow this. As we all know it's the animal that should come first and make all options work!! Not happy. Vet financing should be available !!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am truly sorry for the difficult situation you experienced and understand how urgent and emotional these moments can be. Our overnight team member did suggest reaching out in the morning when our manager was available, as they are not authorized to make executive decisions on account matters. However, we did not hear back from you, and I apologize for any additional frustration this may have caused.
We can recommend a third party payment plan option and always strive to work with our clients on finding solutions, especially for long-standing clients like yourself.

Expérience négative: Having already paid $520 for my cat’s 1st X ray, I was about to pay $125 for the 2nd X ray. Sitting in the lobby of the Burrard hospital, I overheard a conversation: “The third X ray has 15% off.” “Yeah, the fourth one gets you a free trip to Mexico.” That’s when I decided to take my cat away from the hospital. No doubt, Burrard Animal Hospital is a very successful business knowing how to maximize profit by instilling fear in owners, sharing their expertise on (extremely) rare illnesses, recommending irrelevant diagnostics, and minimizing treatments to avoid making clinical mistakes and costing their licensure. My advice is to not see Dr. Ajith Nair and Dr. Devon Pletcher, as they are more concerned about their licensure and profit margin than treating your cat. 1. To receive IV fluid therapy, they will make you hospitalize your cat. If your cat is dehydrated, be prepared to pay for both IV fluids (6 charges: fluid, fluid set up, tubing, tubing set up, pump and CRI?) and hospitalization (4 charges: fluid AGAIN, exam, fluid for injection, injection procedure). Yes, they split fluid into 10 different charges! My cat was admitted at 10am with visible signs and symptoms of dehydration (later determined at 8%). After 10 hours of admission and no oral intake, at 7pm they informed me that IV fluid is necessary so is hospitalization. Dr. Ajith Nair held my cat for 10 hours, then told me a diagnosis I informed upon admission, especially when I give him green light to IV fluid. For 10 hours, he watched the cat dehydrate further, in order to show me with more concerning results. At this stage, you as a pet owner has no choice but to pay. 2. Veterinarians here are afraid of making treatment decisions. Be prepared to pay for a lot for diagnostics charges and little to nothing on medication and treatments that directly benefit your pet. If your pet deteriorates without doing any medical interventions, they are not liable. Time is (like my 10 hours). However, if their interventions play a factor to your pet’s deterioration, they would be responsible. Hence, they would prefer you to hospitalize and monitor before moving on to the next step. Yes, you heard it right. They call themselves EMERGENCY hospital. 3. To make you pay willingly, they instil fear. Fear is the best weapon to making a pet owner pay. Dr. Nair is more concerned about my cat’s liver and kidney when the primary diagnosis is GI-related (admitted for vomiting). Why? To make the most informed decision, he insists to get a FULL clinical picture. That speaks a lot to his professionalism, ethics and morals. Moreover, they like to scare you into doing more diagnostics when raising examples with low occurrence. Having already declined a thyroid test, Dr. Nair recommended me twice to do the test, after I stated that I can only spend on need-to basis and have limited budget. Yes I agreed. 4. Diagnostic tests are intended to make an informed clinical decision, not to generate money. Dr. Devon Pletcher thought otherwise. After my cat’s abdomen X-ray shows a small intestine obstruction, they recommends an ultrasound to further determine if a surgery is needed. When the ultrasound results come out, they have the audacity to present me two options: surgery or hospitalization. I can’t believe I’m paying them $585 ultrasound to ask ME to make an informed decision. When it comes to diagnostics, my cat is sick. When it comes to treatment decisions, their licensure takes precedent over my sick cat. 5. After spending $1800 on diagnostics, Dr. Pletcher informed that I am entitled to a second medical opinion. She failed to recognize that not everyone can afford $1800 twice just to receive a second opinion. She also prescribed the wrong medication to my pet and I caught the mistake. One cannot deny that Burrard Animal Hospital has top-notched relational practice, but they certainly lack competency to be responsible veterinarians. Vets here will do no harm to your pet; neither will they do good for your pet. Think before you go.
Thank you for your feedback. I understand that veterinary care can be costly, please know that our veterinarians’ recommendations are always made with your pet's health in mind. Given your background in the medical field, we trust you understand the importance of thorough diagnostics in ensuring proper treatment. Like in human medicine, accurate diagnoses require multiple steps, and the tests the veterinarian recommended were essential to fully assess your cat's condition.
On presentation you reported that your cat had been vomiting for six days and not eating or drinking for three to four days – these are very concerning symptoms! Your cat’s diagnostics showed a partial gastrointestinal obstruction and elevated kidney enzymes – instead of suggesting the more costly surgical option initially, the plan was to see if the obstruction would pass on its own and the planned but not completed follow up x-rays were to monitor its movement. 8-10% dehydration is quite critical and the most effective way to treat this is through hospitalization and intravenous fluid therapy, especially if your cat could not keep anything down. I understand that it can be very scary when our beloved fur babies are not well – our team are here to communicate the facts and work with our clients to do what is best by them, we do not take shortcuts when it comes to patient care.
I’d like to clarify that our communication regarding costs was transparent, we list all fees associated with patient care and treatment, would you prefer there be hidden costs? Also, we did not undergo any diagnostics that you did not authorize in advance. I’m happy to further discuss any concerns you may have and am looking forward to you returning my call. I hope your cat is doing well and passing their obstruction, please know that we remain here to support you both.

Expérience fantastique: We brought our rabbit here as he was not eating and lethargic. The vet did a great job with the diagnosis (respiratory infection) and prescribed antibiotics which really helped our rabbit quickly recover. Expérience fantastique: There was a stressful time with my 10 year old cat with his health. I'm so glad I got in contact with Burrard Animal Hospital during this time. The receptionists answered all my immediate questions. The receptionists, the veterinarians and vet techs and assistants are all incredible! The consistent vets showed my cat a sense of trust and rapport built with patient and client. The veterinarians assigned to his file, answered all my concerns with such compassion and care. My cat behaviour changed immediately, as previously he'd despise going to the vet and fearful. Now when we go, he still get anxious but the team knows how to care for him in a Fear Free way, allowing him comfort and safety. He now isn't 'as reluctant' to go to the vet and knows he's in good paws with the team (human included too). Thank you for providing such attentive, detailed and receptive care to the animals and owners.
We greatly appreciate your review and are glad to hear it is not as stressful to bring your fur baby to the vet. We hope he continues to recover well from his procedure.

Expérience négative: It’s convenient that they are a 24-hour hospital, but Dr. Grubac’s treatment of my cat showed a significant lack of empathy. For some reason, Dr. Grubac is not listed on their website as a veterinarian, but she was the one who examined my cat. She was quick to dismiss the cause I suspected, only for it to turn out that I was correct. My cat has been socialized from a young age to avoid stress responses, especially given his heart condition, where stress could have serious consequences (actually, true for all cats). Although the hospital claims that all staff are certified in Fear Free care, how she handled my cat was anything but caring. I do want to mention that the nurses who helped us were pretty kind, despite being visibly tired. The place was quite clean, too. While I’m withholding further frustrating details because this is the closest 24-hour hospital within a 30-minute drive, I will certainly avoid this place if any other options are available.
Hello Cristiano, thank you for sharing your experience, I am sad to read that we did not meet your expectations. It would be valuable if you can share further details that will allow me to find your file. Simply stating dissatisfaction without providing information doesn’t allow us the opportunity to investigate, learn, and improve. I will ask that you please reach out to me directly so our team can gain a better understanding and work to resolve your concerns.
Please note that we have ten alternate veterinarians, which allow a wide range of techniques to suit our client base. As a Fear Free Certified facility all team members are required to be certified and complete annual continued education, we do have newer team members in the process of their certification.

Expérience fantastique: I feel very confident taking my dog to Burrard Animal Hospital. The hospital itself is clean and well-maintained, and the staff are welcoming. I like how they play soothing music. The staff routinely email me after a visit to check in on how my dog is doing, and they write back quickly. I also appreciate how they do everything they can to ensure that my dog is comfortable - they are aware that he is anxious and respect his boundaries, which is the most important thing to me.
Our team appreciates your review, thank you. Reducing stress in our patients during visits is a high priority and an investment into comfort for future visits.

Expérience négative: I’ve had multiple bad experiences. Their front desk staff especially the latest one occurring on August 28th 2024 was especially distressing. She didn’t let me finished explaining my situation when I asked to speak to a vet. She rudely interrupted me saying the vet would not be talking to me and to just bring my pet in. I asked again to speak to the vet and she said the vet could “ not be pulled away from other patients to talk to you”. I never asked that and asked for a call back and she said that the vet wasn’t even in!!! and she hung up on me. I called back this time recording her and she would not even let me tell her what pet I was referring to since i had 3 … she literally yelled which pet it was that I was calling about but I kept say it WASN’T that pet it was another… then she yelled again that she was hanging up which she did. I called a third time and told her I was recording this and to please take my name and number. Her tone changed and she made like she took my name and number down but said that the vet would probably not be calling me. Then she hung up. My cat was seen by another wonderful vet and treated for liver failure due to poisoning. I do not recommend this vet hospital mostly because of the inexperienced and rude front desk staff. They play god and it doesn’t suit them.
Isabel, I want to thank you again for your time discussing your experience with me over the phone. I am glad that you took your cat to a vet for immediate treatment for poisoning and I hope they make a full recovery.
I am sorry you had a poor experience calling our hospital and glad you understand that our veterinarians were dealing with a fully booked appointment schedule and four anesthetic procedures that evening. Our team is trained to recommend clients bring their pet in when there is a concern such as poisoning and that would have been the advice no matter who you spoke with.
Your feedback is highly valued and we are always considering ways to improve our communications.

Expérience fantastique: Took my 8 month old pup in for throwing up blood and everyone at the hospital was so kind and caring. They were able to take us in right away and were transparent about the costs of the tests. Even after we brought him home, they called and sent emails to check in on how my baby was doing. I really appreciate their care for their patients. Thank you so much!!

Expérience négative: We recently visited this vet to search for emergency care for our hedgehog. She was previously sick and we had an inclination that her time had come (per our exotic vet’s recommendations). The vet and vet tech were so amazing and kind to us during the whole process, which is never easy. It wasn’t until the day after when I went to collect our hedgehog for cremation. The very next day, I called ahead to let them know I was coming and it took roughly 10 minutes for the front desk associate to grab her. After waiting 10 minutes, the associate brought my hedgehog’s body out in a big box that was clearly an old box for medical supplies. She wasn’t even wrapped. She was just dead in this box. It was absolutely horrifically traumatic to drive my warm hedgehog’s dead body home in a cardboard box in 25 degree heat. So thanks for that, Burrard Vet. It truly made this process even that much more rememberable. I have no idea what happened and why this negligence occurred but my word of advice is to not return to this clinic.
Grace, I am very sorry for your loss and thank you for taking my call during this challenging time. As we discussed, there was confusion about when you would be coming to collect your hedgehog's remains, we were expecting you much earlier in the day which affected the temperature. Typically, deceased patients are received by aftercare services rather than being picked up, and our team members were considering how best to prepare your hedgehog for pick-up.
I apologize that this method did not meet your expectations and we take your preferences and feedback seriously. You mentioned that our team has been there for you and your pets during COVID and that the end-of-life appointment for your hedgehog went very smoothly with compassionate staff. I feel this review does not reflect on your overall experience of BAHE nor does it reflect on the veterinary care we provide. Please take care during this time and thank you for your feedback.

Expérience fantastique: I took my dog here quite a few times. They are great and even though they are busy, they always make sure to prioritize animals in most need. Last time i wanted to take my dog here, i was quite far out and they suggested Mountainside hospital since it was closer to me. They showed integrity and kept calling back to make sure im in good hands. Thank you Burrard ❤️
We appreciate you sharing your experience, thank you.

Expérience négative: First time I brought my pet for a consult & treatment here, only to find this place to be nothing but money hungry & impersonal. Upon calling a few weeks later regarding my animals concerns, I was met with the receptionist rudely reminding me that they suggested I bring my animal in for a follow up (I went elsewhere for a follow up & a second opinion & im SO glad I did!!!!) What really bothered me was the vet not being able to provide much reasoning; such as questioning the food my pet eats & disregarding it because she’s never heard of it. As a medical student, I was hoping she could provide me a reason (ash content, or other ingredients), but nope. Seems like she just wanted to sell me on their food (amongst other things) before even seeing if the treatment worked. I genuinely think a robot would be more empathetic than this vet. I would have spent an unnecessary 1200-1400$ if I listened to the vet originally. only ended up costing me 400$ and my animals healthy again (: I’ll give them one star for, technically, doing their job right.
I am very sorry to read about your poor experience. We would highly value the opportunity to address your feedback, however, I am unable to find a file with the information you have provided. If you can please contact me directly with more information this will allow us to properly review your visit and experience and consider improving our service level.
I am sure as a veterinary student you can understand the responsibility of the veterinarian to consider the patient history, preform a full physical exam, and relay adequate recommendations versus the veterinarian not voicing recommendations due to monetary restraints. In saying that, we do our very best to work within our clients’ resources as needed.

Expérience fantastique: Burrard Animal Hospital has taken great care of not only my dog Toby, most importantly, but also provided peace of mind in his quality of care, the level of explanation and details as to his condition by the vets, but also their staffs love of dogs and animals is very clear. Toby actually is excited to go in there for his weekly blood work. At a time when I was very distraught and worried, leaving him in their extremely capable and caring hands was something that gave me solace. I would absolutely recommend BAH+E to anyone who is seeking care for their beautiful beloved fur babies ❤️
Thank you for your heartfelt review. We hope sweet Toby continues to do well!

Expérience fantastique: My 4 year old cat experienced stress when we adopted a new cat, he refused eating and drinking for 48 hours.Worrying about more serious issues, we brought him to the emergency immediately instead of booking an appointment with our vet and waiting for another couple of days. The doctors here are professional and super helpful, they are very friendly to our cat even he is sometimes aggressive. My cat loves Dr.Paulette Stewart a lot, She helped me give a pill to my cat, I have never seen my cat taking pills that easily before. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends. My cat is getting much better and sleeping in his relaxing way.
We appreciate your review Nan, thank you for sharing. Your fluffy fur baby looks very comfortable in the picture! Dr. Stewart and the team are glad we could help.

Expérience fantastique: Burrard Animal Hospital + Emergency is amazing and I highly recommend them. We are so grateful for Drs. Basi and Dhillon and their team. Dr. Basi is very knowledgeable and thorough. He answered all the questions that we had. After the procedure, the team was amazing with their follow-ups to ensure our dog recovers well. It was also very easy to communicate with the team via emails, phone calls, and texts. This is very different from our former vet who failed to provide us with lab results. Because of Dr. Basi and his diligence, our dog’s tumour that turned out to be cancerous was removed. My family and I cannot thank Dr. Basi and his team enough. We wholeheartedly appreciate their fear-free care for pets.
Your review is much appreciated by Dr. Basi, Dr. Dhillon, and the whole team. Thank you for sharing your experience.

You diagnosed Coco with THC ingestion (after a walk in a public park- dog owners beware) and were very kind and helpful. Thankfully, Coco slept it off and is back to normal this morning. We were seen quickly by caring veterinary specialists. Thank you again.

They always take extra steps to help her feel safe, and both the vets and vet techs are knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Expérience fantastique: I'm a new dog owner and have never been to a vet before but I came in last week as I was walking by wanting to just ask a couple questions and the receptionist, I think his name was Evan, was super helpful, positive, and provided me with reassurance. He was super understanding and empathetic to be being a new dog owner. Even though the place seemed a bit busy with phone calls and clients coming in and out he really helped ease my mind about certain topics I had minimal information about and gave me some super helpful tips. I just wanted to write this review to show my gratefulness from someone who did not expect to get much when I am not even a client there. The staff really do care about clients, patients and provide great insight! Thank you burrard animal hospital :)

Expérience fantastique: So today I had an unfortunate and traumatic thing happened to my family. One of our amazing loveable cats passed away. We had to bring him in. He had had a stroke. He was only nine months old, and the most amazing cat ever but unfortunately he was unresponsive today we took him into the Burrard animal hospital emergency and they had to put him down. They are the most amazing people here at the hospital. They were so kind and wonderful and understanding, and we’re so sympathetic it was so different from the last time I had to put one of my cats down from another veterinary hospital they actually really care, and that made it so much more easier to deal with what was going on and truly appreciate your kindness and help. They worked with my budget with what I could afford with putting my cat down and getting him cremated. I just want to say thank you so much to this hospital. Absolutely amazing people I 100% totally recommend.
We are truly sorry for your loss and appreciate your kind words about our hospital. We hope you are doing well during such a difficult time and if you need further support, we're here for you.

Answered all my questions and definitely lessened my stress quite a bit. They even had a heart on the prescription bag next to my pet’s name. A small detail yes, but one that was very appreciated nonetheless by my family and I. Thanks guys!

Expérience fantastique: I brought my cat in recently as she had been injured during one of her outside adventures. Dr Barzelai made sure that she didn’t have any other wounds and found additional injuries that were taken care of and stapled: I was so relieved that they were discovered and treated so carefully. We had to return a second time for treatment for her vomitting and Dr Nair made sure that Kiki was tested and had x rays to find out if there was anything wrong. It all went well and Kiki is feeling 100%. Thank you to all the staff too!
Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience with us, and for entrusting us with Kiki's care. We appreciate your kind words.

Expérience négative: Unprofessional service, nobody cares about your animal. And their comments below about being busy it’s such a lie which I have never seen in my life. When we came to the emergency, there was only one lady in front of us and they spent almost 40 minutes just to persuade her to go back home. Afterwards was our turn. The lady had a dog who seemed to be healthy. Our dog was on the edge of passing away and hardly breathing and shivering all the time. Emergency means you are not taking the patient first because they arrived first. It’s just ridiculous. Taking into account that I called them prior to our visit. And when we got into the room, it took them 1,5 hours of talks!!!! I was really shocked. Talking for 1,5 hours about what my dog can have but in fact the doctor does not even examine him and that is why we need to make ALL possible analysis including Xray for 1400 CAD. And talking, talking, talking. While the dog was heavily breathing constantly shaking and started to have convulsions. The doctor did not even approach the dog. Just talking about importance of Xray. No examination. Just pay 3000 CAD in advance for a day and all possible laboratory diagnostic before they start doing anything. I literally had to push the doctor examining the dog and demanded to make injections immediately. The vet technician was shivering while trying to make an injection for my dog. As if she has never seen animals in her life before. I mean guys just avoid this place. No humanity, no professionalism, just nothing.
We appreciate you sharing your recent experience. Our priority is to tend to cases based on urgency, we made efforts to minimize your wait time, even while our overnight team was tending to a distressed patient. During the visit, your dog displayed increased fear and anxiety resulting in the initial plan for a sedated exam. After discussing the recommended treatment plan and costs, you opted for a non-sedated exam and symptomatic treatment. The veterinarian on duty performed the examination, and our technician administered the medications and fluids authorized. We are glad to hear that your dog has shown improvement since the visit.
In an effort to provide you with sincere care, I attempted to reach out to you to check on your dog's progress and to discuss your overall experience, as well as clarify points in your review. Please feel free to return my call. We value your feedback and want to ensure your concerns are understood.

Expérience fantastique: Dr. Dhillon and his entire team are amazing, and provide detailed and personalized care for animals. I had to bring my puppy into their emergency care. The staff was patient, understanding, and caring. The vet and technicians took time to explain what the process was, what happened, and answered all of my questions and alleviated my concerns. After the visit, they followed up with a call to see how my puppy was recovering. I would highly recommend Dr. Dhillon and his team for emergency and regular vet visits.

Expérience négative: They are not knowledgeable about HAMSTERS. IF you are low income I strongly urge you to not see a vet in high income areas of Vancouver. This happens to be in one of the highest income areas in Vancouver which inherently comes with some of the highest vet prices. I spent a lot and received several confusing diagnoses for my hamster's "skin condition". I always called to see if it was worth a visit and they instructed me to come in as soon as possible. After the fifth visit in under 6 months one of the vets told me to go to Capitol Hill Animal Hospital. I am sure the staff is good with cats and dogs but they have not been with small pets in my experience. Especially considering he only has crazy amounts of dandruff because he is considered geriatric and the male breed tends to have more "skin flakes" : dandruff as they get older. I learned this upon my own research since I am not wealthy and could not really afford to take him to any vet unless it is truly a medical emergency to begin with. I have deleted my 1 star reviews before as they were not worded properly but as you can see in this dissertation of a review; my main priority is to save hamsters owners time and money unless it is TRULY an emergency where the hamsters behaviour shows as: decreased appetite, decreased physical activity, audible laboured breathing and or anything that seems severely concerning. It's always best to do your own research unless your hamster is visibly discomforted or in distress. And or call free 24/hr vet support lines where you can ask questions like you would for a nurse line for yourself. All the best to my fellow small pet owners<3 PS. Blue Cross Pet Hospital allegedly has reasonable prices ! (I only say "allegedly" as I have not gone there myself) but based off what I have heard from others and read from reviewers, that location may be more suitable for lower income residents.
Expérience négative: I brought my cat here after she had diarrhea and one episode of vomiting. She was assessed and I was told she needed to be admitted overnight for tests, medicated and given IV fluids. I was quoted 2800-3200 and when I asked if it was possible to pay this amount in smaller payments as I couldn’t afford to all at once I was told no and was not offered another alternative until I asked for her to be given subcutaneous fluids and bring her home. I was still charged just under $500 for multiple medications and the initial assessment. When coming home and showing my normal vet the assessment the next day they agreed that a lot of the proposed medical exams were a bit over the top considering her symptoms and that this had all only been going on one day. They also instructed me not to give her half of the medications I payed for saying they were unnecessary. I showed a friend of mine who is also a vet the quote and they too said while nothing the vet prescribed for the cat would hurt them, it seemed to be overboard considering the duration of the symptoms. I would urge people to consider other clinics before visiting this one as I felt taken advantage of. I spent the night crying in their waiting room thinking my one year old cat was going to die because I could not afford the examinations. Deeply unhappy with how everything was handled.
Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback, we value your input. On presentation your cat showed signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and significant dehydration. After a physical examination the veterinarian on duty provided you with a comprehensive treatment plan to address these issues and identify the underlying cause. Additionally, they offered a symptomatic treatment plan for outpatient care. We do not offer payment plans but will work within budget limitations to provide treatment.
I apologize for any negative experiences you may have had and am committed to resolving any misunderstandings. We attempted to reach out to you by phone to further discuss the situation and encourage you to return our call. Your cat's well-being is our top priority, and we want to ensure we address your concerns effectively.

Expérience fantastique: My dog came in last night for emergency with cut nail. They were very quick to treat him and tried to do so without sedative, but quickly regognized he needs to be sedated for proper medical care. They also waited after they woke him up, to make sure he was okay. This is our second time in this clinic, and we never had a long wait time. I am also happy to hear that they just got Fear free certified.
Thank you for your kind words and the positive Google review. Your feedback means a lot to us, and it inspires our team to continue delivering Fear Free and AAHA practices to the community.

Expérience négative: I brought in my mini Yorkie with a broken nail which required to simply trim it off and clean the wound. They told me it’d cost over $1000 and were going to sedate my dog. I walked away and they still charged me $125 for the consultation. They made it sound like a major issue and medical emergency, making me feel like I’m not taking care of my dog properly, I went to a different clinic next day and they said it’s not a medical concern, clipped the nail off and charged me $25 for everything. Avoid this place, very unethical money grabbing approach.
Hello Yulia, we appreciate the feedback from your visit, and I hope your dog is feeling better now.
Your dog presented with a torn nail and was in great pain. Our veterinarian could not view or get close to the dangling nail due to the pain and blood clotted fur obstructing it. You were presented with an ideal treatment plan including sedation to allow an ethical approach to treat the nail, pain relief, antibiotics, and a blood screen as your dog is nearing geriatric age and had not been examined recently. After you decided against the blood screen a new treatment plan was issued and also contained a low and high end which considers the findings after treatment and the patient’s weight. In the end treatment would have been less than half of the fee you noted. Please contemplate that we use Fear Free practices in our everyday care to promote a positive visit even when our patients have sustained an injury like this.
I am glad to hear your dog was treated at another vet and I hope your dog is on adequate medications to assist with recovery.
I tried to call you this morning and left a message, I invite you to call me back.

Expérience positive: The vets and technicians have been very kind and patient to my dog. They have been taking care of my dog for more than a year already. I initially took my dog there for emergency. She was seen right away without any delay. I was very appreciative of their prompt response. They saved my dog’s life! However, sometimes the staff there forget to give me instructions as to how I should give medications to my dog, for example, how long before her appointment or before or after her first blood draw, etc. For those times, I just took my dog to the vet and realized I had to reschedule because she’s not medicated within the desired timeframe. There was also one time when I had to collect a urine sample for my dog, the urine had to be 24hour fresh; otherwise it couldn’t be used. However, I wasn’t told about this before hand. Not until I sent in the urine did I know that the urine was too old to be used even though it had been stored in the fridge. The doctors and staff work diligently and take care of their clients’ pets well and patiently. They are my dog’s heroes. I truly trust and appreciate their care for my dog. I just hope that in terms of giving instructions, they can be clearer and give the instructions in time. This way I won’t have to bring my dog to the hospital and only realize that we have to reschedule or bring in a sample and find out that I have to recollect it because the one I have is too old to be used.
Hu Ning we sincerely appreciate your valuable feedback and the trust you have placed in us to care for your dog. We regret any previous instances of miscommunication. Expérience fantastique: Our first time here was for an emergency because our dog was lethargic, cold, and had GI issues. While she was unable to recover and her illness was more extensive than we thought when coming in, we are forever grateful for the kindness, compassion, and empathy that ALL of the staff gave our family. They knew she needed to be seen right away, and that’s exactly what happened. We were given time and space to grieve through the whole visit. Because of this experience for our sweet girl’s end of life care, we came back here for our new puppy. We have never been disappointed by the care and expertise of the people who work at Burrard Animal Hospital. They go above and beyond to make sure our pup is happy, fear-free, and healthy. They send follow-up messages asking how he is doing and are very transparent about wait times. We know how busy hospitals can get; we are patient people and know first hand that if a fur baby really needs immediate care, they will receive it. Thank you to all of the vet techs, office staff, and vets for everything you do. All of the office staff are friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I highly recommend this place and are fond of Dr. Wong, Dr. Basi, and Dr. Killeen.
We are very grateful for your heartfelt review. Our dedicated team, including Dr. Wong, Dr. Basi, and Dr. Killeen, along with our entire staff, is committed to providing the best care and creating a fear-free environment for your pet.
