Holly Animal hospital is small animal hospital serving Barrie and area. We are located on Veterans drive in South west area just minutes from hwy 400 and is one intersection north of Mapleview Drive. Facility is new, environment friendly with lot of natural light. We provide medical, surgical and dental services and complimented by amazing team. We strive for excellent client experience with low stress handling of pets. We moved from King Street in Barrie with our new name (old name King Street Animal Hospital) in 2015.

Negative experience: For the most part the staff are wonderful. Waited a half hour for the vet. The visit took an awful turn when i encountered a horribly, highly combative elderly receptionist when I questioned why I was kept waiting so long. Vet was very kind and apologetic.
We take all feedback to improve our service and sorry for the wait.
Sometimes time management is beyond our control. For example, a simple vaccine appointment of uncooperative pet who also needs nail trim can end up taking much longer time. We do keep some cushion time for these but I am sorry for keep you waiting.
Fantastic experience: Very good with the animals. We had our cat in there for surgery, and then decided to move our dog over from our previous vet.

Negative experience: We as family attended for the euthanasia oof beloved dog, prior to this we told paw prints would be taken along with a snout print. Upon picking up my beloved animals ashes I assumed the prints were in the bag, when I realized they were not I called and was told they were at the office, I went to the office and was told they were sent out by mail. After another 2 weeks of not getting them by mail my husband called and was told it was returned to them as address was not correct and was sent back to them. My husband corrected the address despite the intake forms being filled out correctly online prior to the visit. We have still yet to receive my pets prints. This vet is disorganized and cannot keep to their word. This occurred back in July, my family is devastated to not have the prints of our family member of 15 years! Shame on this vet for not following through! I don’t believe the prints were ever taken!

Fantastic experience: We brought our new puppy here at the recommendation of a neighbour. I am so happy we did! The whole staff is so nice I have nothing but positive things to say. When we brought Sadie to be spayed, we were very nervous. She was well cared for and I really felt good about leaving our fur baby in their care. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I’ve looked all over Barrie for a good vet for my 3 cats as most places are really expensive or don’t care. Holly Animal hospital Is by far the best service and care I’ve ever found for my cats. They check up on your pets via email, they have really good prices and overall and if you’re looking for people who actually know what they are doing, and care I would try this place for sure!

Negative experience: I brought my cat in due to major weight loss & vomiting. Plus urinary issues. We spent over $2000. on tests etc. Found he had an UTI which was solved. But told nothing of any issues from other tests we did , i.e. blood work & xrays. Unless of course I now do an ultrasound. More money... My cat kept getting worse but no help until I went to another vet who reviewed the radiology report from Holly Vet and found there was some foreign matter in his intestines plus indications of lymphoma. The new vet asked, did the Holly Vet not go through this with you? NO they did NOT. My cat continued to suffer until he completely stopped eating and we sadly had to say goodbye to him. I will never recommend Holly Animal hospital. Quite clearly they were more interested in making money from tests. Either they were just incompetent in going over the radiology report with me or they just didnt care. Either way I would NEVER go back.
We are very sorry for loss of your beloved pet. As far as lymphoma is concerned, it can not be diagnosed just based on changes seen on x-rays. Changes seen on x-rays can be from as simple as inflammation of intestines. which was also listed as one of differential on the report. Abdominal ultrasound was recommended to further clarify the situation and most of the time biopsy is needed to confirm diagnosis of these conditions. We offer our condolences for passing of your beloved pet.

I am sorry for your experience but my staff is all canadian and I suppose they speak reasonable English as this is their first language. NOBODY Did or will tell that line to pet parent.
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough how thankful we are for Dr. Jessica who took care of our dog the other day. After being unable to get him in anywhere in an emergency, they were able to take us in 20 minutes. Long story short, our dog had swollen anal glands which needed to be expressed as they were causing our boy so much pain (he was panting, drooling SO much & crying out in pain for hours). Dr. Jessica was so wonderful & gave him a full exam, bloodwork & was able to provide almost immediate relief upon expressing the gland for him (which we could not do ourselves). Did bloodwork, prescribed some medication & took such good care of him. Not to mention following up with a call yesterday an email with instructions for medications & another email today to check in. Our boy is doing so much better already & we are so grateful for the team at this vet for prioritizing ours and our dogs needs in a compassionate & empathetic way.

Negative experience: ***Your late reply to this review shows how bad your punctuality as a business is and was during my time with you.. the front desk manager/clerk was always very rude, lied directly to my face about what she said etc, your staff and team has mentioned many times the reason for delays is overbooked, short staffed, etc. I appreciate your reply but please do look at the entire time we were apart of your teams family and something changed the last year with your business. Your female doctor pushes tests every visit and doesn’t listen, speak clearly, or break down and explain. Good luck to you and your clinic. Poor customer service, multiple mistakes on bills, only one of the two doctors is reliable at this clinic, nurse Mike is the only worthy 5 star at this clinic. I’ve moved my animals to somewhere with better care and atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Amazing place. They saved my dog! They were able to squeeze him in after a long weekend and got him in for an emergency surgery the next day. If it wasnt for the amazing care they provided my dog would no longer be with us

Negative experience: I wish I could leave a review without giving a star at all. I am so unbelievably disgusted with the behaviour in this vet clinic. I have been told off by a receptionist in the past. When I arrived at the clinic after that call she would not even assist me and walked into a room ignoring me. Thankfully one of the vet techs came out and assisted me. Now today the vet calls me about a prescription refill I had to go into the app to request, asking me a million questions and not seeming to like ANY of my responses. I asked if he was going to fill the prescription or not to which he replied "I will this time, but moving forward you will need to find a new vet". I guess I am not allowed to ask questions, only they are, he was implying my dog did not need the medication but failed to acknowledge that I had to physically log into the app, select the medication and request a refill. Obviously it is the med my dog needs or I would not have requested it. Then to tell me I can find a new vet when my dog requires these meds to LIVE is just downright disgusting. I have referred a number of people to this place and even posted on social media groups about them. I had moved ALL of my animals to them and this is the thanks I get. Absolutely unprofessional and disgusting behaviour from someone who I trust with my animals lives. Stay clear of this place at all cost.

Care of the pet is our primary concern and if I have question or concern, it is my duty to get all the facts to provide best care for the pet.

Fantastic experience: I called in an emergency situation. They made space in their appointments to see me without charging me any additional fees for "emergency". I was treated with respect, educated on the signs, symptoms and possible outcomes and given options for care that I was given full respect and support to choose. I appreciated very much that I was not taken advantage of while I was in a confused and emotional state. Our furbaby was given great care and dedicated follow-up to ensure our plan of support was working. Every single staff member was awesome. From the very caring voice of support from my initial phone call, to the vet tech who took extra time and support to help me learn how to follow the procedures I needed to do on my own, to the time and attention without feeling rushed from the Veterinarian. I could ask as many questions as I needed and was not pressured to do more than what was necessary to care for my pet.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Brocos is absolutely amazing. I rescued my dog Millie from Texas at the end of 2023. She came with a slight case of the sniffles that turned in to coughing that got increasingly worse. After a few different vet visits, we finally met Dr. Brocos who knew something was wrong. It took several x-rays, various tests, and a few different rounds of antibiotics to finally kill off what was diagnosed as bacterial pneumonia. Dr. Brocos was SO determined to help Millie get cured and healthy. After a couple months of treatment and many, many visits, Millie was clear of her pneumonia. I could not recommend Dr. Brocos and the amazing vet tech staff at Holly more. We just had an annual checkup and shots a few days ago and got to see Dr. Brocos again with a fully grown (and healthy) Millie!

Fantastic experience: Dr. TJ Kaloti is the real deal. I've been seeing him since I first moved to Barrie nearly six years ago with one dog, and I now have three dogs & two cats. He's taken very good care of my boys and knowing how much I love and worry about them as a dog parent, he takes the time to carefully answer any questions I may have and explain in depth the procedures, costs, etc. He's very patient, polite and I respect his passion for what he does. Additionally, the staff who work there have all been very accommodating and work hard at the front desk and behind the scenes. I appreciate them following up afterwards to make sure everything has gone well, and the prices are very reasonable in comparison to other clinics. 10/10 would recommend.

Negative experience: I had pet cat shaved and they only did a strip on his back and still charged me $26 dollars and would not finish. It took them an hour before they even at which probably stressed my cat out
We are very sorry for your experience. But would you like to elaborate why we were not able to finish full shave. You probably forgot but we told you that you pet may need sedation for this procedure which you declined. We still tried and not able to do more than what we did. We are not drive through facility and these are drop off procedure. We wish you good luck.

Negative experience: My dog almost died after receiving a surgery here. I had to spend 14,000$ at emergency vets and a new clinic. *When he was brought back with an eye swollen the size of a golf ball, we were told it was probably just a scratch on his eye. The emergency clinic said that was “negligent diagnosis” and three other clinics said there was no other explainable reason for the dog to have contracted a virus in his bloodstream other than from a side effect of the surgery. The dog was healthy before and didn’t go anywhere other than our home post surgery.
We are very sorry to hear about your experience but our recollection of events is different. Your beloved dog develop some symptoms two weeks later on a different body part which is even not in close proximity to the surgery site (which healed unremarkably). I am still trying to understand your points that how a surgery almost killed your dog when surgery site healed without any complications, other concern/symptoms develop 2 weeks after surgery on totally different area of the body which does not have any direction connection with original site. You can contact us and I will try to explain these thing AGAIN.
Negative experience: Every time in come here I feel that I am being over charged and guilted into unnecessary procedures. Not only that but they are now demanding that I pay for a test in which the charge was not communicated with me and that I declined. Do not do business here! IN RESPONSE: You say that the charge was authorized by me in writing on the estimate provided yet it was not included in that estimate, instead I received an additional unauthorized charge. Fantastic experience: I had my cat Jenny spayed 1 month ago. Now the seam is almost invisible, very neat work. I also want to note that I received a detailed letter from Dr. Singh about how the surgery went. And detailed instructions for post-operative care. And also a medicine for 3 days for kitty. I am very pleased, I highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: My dog Angel comes to this vet and we absolutely adore them! I couldn't ask for a better place for our fur baby! They are wonderful at communicating even after hours via email and they always send me a overview phone call or email of my dogs appointments on days I'm unable to attend due to work and have to have my dad bring him. Positive experience: We are fairly new clients with a senior dog. So far we have received excellent service and opinions after test results and exams. The staff are polite and return calls as quickly as possible. Good customer service, friendly staff. Willing to take the time to answer questions as best as possible. A bit pushy with certain foods that they stock. Not enough knowledge on pet nutrition. Overall it's a good veterinary practice.

Negative experience: They told me and my girlfriend that our cat has fleas, wouldn’t show us said fleas, got us to buy $200 of flea treatments which we didn’t use, we took him to multiple other vets because he showed no signs of fleas and they said he never had fleas to begin with. If you are going here be careful because they will try to scam you.
Sorry for your experience but my technician showed you live fleas on your pet. As for as flea medication is concerned, if unused, you can return those.

I did talk to my staff about the incident. We could not accommodate your walk in appointment on Saturday due to our already overfilled schedule and non emergent nature of the issue. Negative experience: DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE.if I could give 0 stars I would. I have never been so upset with a vet clinic before. The techs are rude, dismissive, don’t even let you finish a sentence before interrupting you. They won’t let you know when your animal is ready for pickup. They left my dog in a crate for 4 hours with no water, no bathroom breaks for xrays. He soiled himself the moment he got out he had to go to the bathroom that badly. The vet techs talked about me in front of me, and the vet who I had no idea who he was, barked at me to come to the back to see said X-rays, didn’t introduce himself, nothing. Not even a hi. Then showed me the X-rays and starred at me like I know what I’m looking at. He didn’t explain anything to me. I’m disgusted with the level of disorganization and unprofessionalism going on here. I will NEVER take any of my dogs here ever again, I’ve never left a vet sobbing in frustration. Never again Response to clinic: this is the most anyone spoke to me at the clinic. You, the vet, literally grunted at me when I asked questions. You were not clear, you had me stare at an xray and did not provide any information until I asked. I got three word responses from you each question I asked. You should take this as a learning opportunity and work on your bed side manners for the sake of your clients.

Fantastic experience: Cooper is an anxious pup. He was shown patience, given lots of treats and his appointment was very quick and efficient without feeling rushed. We were given lots of opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns we had. We received test results the next day over the phone with an explanation that was clear, along with an understanding on what to expect and how to move forward. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. And the on-line app is easy and convenient to use.

Fantastic experience: Brand new to this clinic, and they are amazing! I called this afternoon hoping to find an apt asap as my now old clinic didn't seem to care that my cats had blood in their stool and wouldnt fit me in until next week. Holly clinic had an apt for us within 3 hours and we're so great with my boys! Looking forward to dealing with them in the future, everyone was very friendly, and had my boys medication ready for us to bring home. Very thankful to finally have a clinic that actually cares about animals and not just the price tag. Not to mention they were very affordable!

Negative experience: The worst vet I've ever taken my dog too. CT scans were 3 times the price then my second opinion I later had, lied and convinced us not to spade early to wait until she was bigger to the. Charge more for her weight and was horrible with my loving kind dog that's never had an issue at a vet. He doesn't care about the people or animals strictly a buisness to profit as much as possible off animal lovers. Yes your buisness whatever scan you did or got her

Negative experience: These vets do not care about animals, all their care about is making money. After my Cane Corso sustained a double CCL rupture, first of all these CON ARTISTS charged me $3000 for X-rays while my new vet charges $200. They told me I needed to pay $10,000 for surgery or my dog would never walk again. Being a nursing student with no pet insurance, I could not afford this. I sought a second opinion and that wonderful vet (Ivy) said we could heal her with strong pain meds and rest. Holly vet then refused to see my dog since I sought another opinion and sent her file away, without my permission! Really nice after she’s been to this vet since she was a puppy. I would never suggest these vets to anyone! I asked repeatedly for other options and they said there were none. 6 months later under the care of another vet my dog is back to normal. No thanks to them!

You do know that we have everything on your file like how much we charged for x-rays. Your visit include many other things apart from X-rays but your bill was still a fraction for $3000 (as you are claiming). If you give me your consent I can post your invoice over here or email to you to have a second look. Secondly, why you have to do x-rays again as we sent medical file along with x-rays we did to your new vet. As for as CCL is concerned, all options were discussed and I have record of sending you that information by email. I thought it will be easier for a person with medical background to understand the condition better as CCL is surgical condition and joint is unstable when CCL is ruptured. Body has tendency to repair itself and for CCL, it does by putting thick tissue around joint to restrict joint movement which takes a long time but still it will end up with fulminating arthritis, very restricted range of motion and lifelong pain. I have no note of refusing to see your dog.

Fantastic experience: Always excellent care provided by Holly Animal Hospital. They handle the insurance submissions and make every visit wonderful. My boxer doesn't like to get her nails trimmed and they always do a such a great job. The girls sing to her while doing it to make it easier for her which seems to work. Fantastic experience: I can't say enough about this Vet. TJ is amazing and progressive. We have taken our 13 year old pup here for years. Always treated more then fairly, and our dogs get exceptional care. Recently we experienced laser treatment for our goldens inflammation. It was suggested as something that 'might' help, and even with my skepticism, I was absolutely amazed at how the laser treatment almost instantly took Molly's pain level from a 9 to a 1. Now we are going to try taking her off pain meds, if the risk fee laser treatment continues to give her this level of relief. Without hesitation I refer friends, family and now you to book with TJ.

Fantastic experience: They were good so far but we surrendered our dog today cause of complications and couldn’t afford it right there but they are going to try and save him and hopefully if they do they give us the opportunity to pay the bill and get my granddaughters dog back because we all love him so much … today is july 5th 2023 and his name is gunner and even though we surrendered him the vet told us he would let us know if he survives or dies so I hope he keeps his word cause my family needs closer or there furbaby back if he survives and would gladly pay the bill to have him back as he just had his birthday and turned 1 year old..
Fantastic experience: I wish we would have found them sooner our dog is 9 and we have been to 2 vets before Holly and the care is night and day compared to the prior vets. We are going through a difficult time with Zeus and when I have a question they pick up the phone or call me back asap they check in with us. If we were to get another dog we will be returning to Holly animal hospital.

Fantastic experience: Definitely recommend Holly animal hospital. They got me in as a new patient on very short notice to see my sick cat. They laid out all of my options to help her and didn't put any pressure on or guilt me to make a decision. Also when there was an issue with my records being sent to my email they were quick to fix it on what I'm sure was a busy Saturday.

Fantastic experience: We just cannot thank Holly Animal Hospital for their KINDNESS, PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING and LOVE that they showed our bull mastiff BoomBoom and us as we had to make one of the hardest decisions because our big boy was not doing well. He was going to be 10 years old and he had been having some troubles. We discussed all the options no matter how many times I asked the same question they were happy to sit and explain everything over again so we knew what could be done and all the issues that could or could not happen and in the end when we were laying with Booms and my husband and I were talking our big boy looked at us and when we looked in his eyes he was saying its ok mama let me go im ready and we made that dreaded decision to let him go over that rainbow bridge to be with his brother Tank. The staff was so amazing we were not rushed they explained each step and they showed so much compassion we spent 4 hours there with our BoomBoom and we were offered paw prints nose print some of his fur and ofcourse he was going to be cremated and they would take care of everything. They helped us with the finances because when you are dealing with the passing of your furbaby you are in shock you may agree with things you don't need or want some places will take advantage of your emotional state NOT Holly Animal Hospital they were just the best considering what was happening. In the future when we feel ready for a new addition to our family we will definitely be going back to Holly Animal Hospital we cannot say enough of the Drs and all of the staff Thank you for going above and beyond with our boy. RIP BOOMBOOM JUNE 10TH 2013 TO MAY 2ND 2023

The staff is very professional, compassionate and friendly. They explained all the treatment options throughly and gave me estimates in advance to avoid surprises later. They always respected the decisions I made for my senior dog and never made me feel guilty for the choices I made. It is very easy to book appointments and I never had to wait in the waiting room for a long time. The doctor took his time to examine my dog and answer my questions - I never felt rushed. Fantastic experience: The vet assistances treated my big boy like he was their own and loved him. So happy to see they didn't treat specific breeds different. Loved getting the estimate before doing anything instead of a big surprise at the end. They worked with me and my schedule and when I came in for the results the vet explained everything to me and was patient and made sure I understood (big medical words) Plus the later hours are a bonus!!!!!!

Negative experience: I brought an old cat with a very large tumor in his liver. He started not eating food, so I wanted to see what my best option was. The vet told me it was something to do with his mouth.. but I told him about the tumor and not eating so he prescribed meds for his stomach to make him less nauseated and for pain. These were directly squirted into his mouth and he suffered so much more because of it. I ended up bringing him to another vet and they told me he needed to be put down. A couple days before I this, I was being harassed with phone calls about an ultrasound they wanted to give him and extra stuff that they just assumed I had money for. The way the vet worded things like "it's your call" made me feel like if I asked for no surgery I was killing my animal. If they just told me from the start he's suffering and needs to be put down that would have been my call. This wasn't one of my options here, it was all about more money I could throw at the problem. I would recommend to go to Sullivans animal hospital in Barrie instead. Much cheaper, better diagnosis.
I am sorry to hear about your beloved pet. I am also sorry that you felt in that way about our facility and services. I reviewed your pet's medical file and I did not find any mention of us telling you that his mouth was a issue. I am sure you may have missed or forgot that I discussed prognosis prior to doing further diagnostics. You probably also missed that his symptoms are most likely from abdominal mass. Pain medication was given as many time these improve quality of life while client is making further decision. Yes, abdominal ultrasound was recommended to further evaluate the mass.
I can tell that a particular mass looks like aggressive but I can not tell that yes, this is cancer. Does any human doctor will do that. My professional duty is to give client all options, possible prognosis, answer client's question to help a client make informed decision. I can not make decision on behalf of client. It sometime bothers me that lot of discussion are left out very conveniently. We called you about ultrasound because you wanted to do an ultrasound. We would not have called you again, if you messaged us or call us back to tell that you do not want ultrasound anymore. Did we called you again after you told that you do not want any further tests.
Again I am sorry about loss of your pet. You can call us if you have any other question.
