Our veterinarians, technicians, vet assistants and client relations staff at Clayton Park Veterinary Hospital have been providing high-quality pet care in Halifax since 1979. Over the past 33 years, Dr. Ron Abrahams has been instrumental in growing the practice from a one-doctor clinic to a multi-doctor hospital. Located in The Clayton Park Shopping Centre on Lacewood Drive, the hospital has undergone two major renovations, expanding from an 800-square foot clinic into a full-service, modern 3000-square foot facility.

Expérience fantastique: Took my two orange boys here to get neutered, their cones of shame were adorable, and the people there were super friendly, even though my cat, (picture) clawed a person's nose. Highly recommended.

Expérience négative: Do not go to this clinic. If I could give less than a star, I would. I brought my pet in for care, everything went well until I asked the assistant for clarification on test prices. She responded rudely to which I asked her not to be rude as I was already worried. The interaction was maybe 2 mins, she then proceeded to lie to the vet and said I swore at her. The vet (“Dr” Spear) then comes in and tells me to leave - tells me trust is broken and she doesn’t believe that I did not swear. All I wanted was to understand the test prices and once I asked that everything changed - this vet cannot be trusted and should not be in operation. What kind of veterinary clinic sends animals away? This was supposed to be a professional interaction, not one filled with rude assistants and awful vets. I am truly so confused on what just happened, this vet is entirely money driven and if you ask questions you will be poorly treated and sent away. I hope both the assistant and the vet see this - they should be ashamed.

Expérience négative: They do not want to give you price ranges, or price minimums unless you do an exam. I have never heard of such a clinic that does not want to share what minimum costs are. Why would I pay exam fee if you will charge me $3000 to clean their teeth if I cannot afford it. If you give me an idea of what your minimum is, I can make better decisions and then come in, do the exam and get a proper quote.

Expérience positive: We tried one place and weren't happy; then tried another place for a year and were disappointed with the over-selling and scare tactics. Then we came to Clayton Park Vet Hospital and for the first few years there, I probably would have given a 4-star review. But we ended up seeing another vet on staff last time (Dr. Farrow) and he won us over completely. I would actually trust Dr. Farrow to make decisions about my dog's health because I believe he would not do anything that wasn't necessary. That's saying a lot. UPDATE: I would like to add that we stopped going to this clinic in 2021 because the place changed. The familiar vets left, it didn't feel personable anymore, there was always confusion with the front desk. I hope they get back on track.

Expérience fantastique: I take the 5 stars away. I refuse to go back there . I may have a misunderstood pup, but vets are supposed to be experienced as well. Negative vibes don't flow well with either of us. Sorry I refuse to come back, especially after charging me, for a bill that not 1 of the two things I booked, nirther were accomplished! Nor solved. Anyhow sorry it didn't work out, a hostile clinic is no place for a rescue dog. Here's the kicker, they claim you need an appointment for a spray, so they charge to see an perscribe a helpful spray that is actually over the counter. Sorry but you guys are overcharginging and making false accusations. And your welcome for your great review

I took my four kittens in for their first vaccinations and each one received a good thorough check-up and necessary treatments. Expérience négative: This review is for the receptionist only. I am not satisfied with the customer service. I booked my puppy's second vaccine a month ago for yesterday's visit. They lost the power and called me about it and promised to call me back for reschedule. That is perfectly okay to me. I didn't receive any call back and I called the first thing this morning for reschedule. I was told that they cannot reschedule until the week next and "you can call other clinic". I am very upset. If they knew they only have one vet working today and the whole next week, they should have told me yesterday. I would totally understand. I feel they're telling me they don't care. The customer service definitely needs to improve: 1. Know your current situation. 2. Care about your customers' need. 3. Timely respond. Working in a clinic requires work ethic, efficiency and kindness. A heartless sorry won't work well.

Expérience négative: This is the worst and least compassionate animal hospital I’ve ever encountered. One of my dogs was euthanized in May. It took the techs about 10 times to get the iv in. It was horrific. I sobbed and sobbed telling my baby i loved her and it was okay. When the female vet came in to administer the drug she didn’t look at me, didn’t touch my dog and not a word was said to me. It took me months to write this. Do not go to these people if you love your pets.

Expérience négative: The doctors here are arrogant and pushy. Every appointment feels like you're talking to a vaccine salesman, rather than a doctor. You can tell they make a good portion of their profits from vaccines by the way they constantly try to push them on you. They also try to sell you things your dog doesn't need, and their walls are littered with posters trying to scare you into buying medications for things. If you like to do your own research and have a say in your dog's healthcare decisions, this is not the vet for you. The doctors here expect you to do what they suggest and keep your mouth shut, or else their friendliness quickly turns to arrogance. I've had the same experience with multiple doctors here and it won't be happening again.

Expérience négative: I am very disappointed and upset with the service I received … got charged $239 when I brought in my parakeet because she was losing hair around her eye, she was losing feathers, scratches a lot and it all pointed to signs she was sick. They told me she was fine there was nothing wrong and to not be worried it’s just a cyst and that they removed a feather from her eye that bothered her they said to just apply eye drops and in 2 weeks if it the isn’t better then she was born with the cyst but she would be fine it just might bother her a little … 3 days later I found my parakeet dying suffering in the bottom of the cage I picked her up and she died in my hands 30 seconds later … my other parakeet has now not eaten since then and won’t move at all since his mate died. Now remember they charged $239 only to remove a feather from my parakeets eye ( which didn’t make a difference) and to give me eye drops to use for 14 days and my parakeet died 3 days later. Absolutely disgusted and disappointed with the service and diagnosis.

Expérience négative: With my cat Jonas, Dr Cambier was the most amazing vet I could ever ask for. If I had any questions at all, I could call her directly and she would ease my anxiety. When we had to put him down, they gave me a button to press for when I was ready to leave and were extremely amazing. Today, I brought my 10 year old guy in for kidney failure after a trip to the emergency vet last night. EXTREMELY insensitive. Was more worried about payment and getting us out of there more than the fact that I just lost my best friend. I understand you’re running a business & need the room for other appointments, but I believe there should have been a place for us to go to grieve for more than 10 minutes. Dr Mitchell came in 3 times within the 10 minutes to ask when we were heading out, and to “take our time” but it was clear he wanted us to leave. Unfortunately will never be back with any animals, even though I truly love the front staff and Dr Cambier

Expérience négative: Our experiences there weren’t overly consistent. Our cats can be a bit difficult, we know.. but they don’t seem t want us to bring them in, and I think if you’re a vet.. you should be able to handle animals of different temperaments. They wanted us to drug them up before bring them in for a check up, despite one of our cats having a heart murmur and they originally advised against high doses of sedation for him. So, we opted to change vets after our last appointment.. and we have had the total opposite experience else where. I do want to give 2 stars though, because the front staff are always so pleasant and helpful. We liked the foods they provide and it isn’t overly priced for services

Expérience fantastique: We were looking for special food for our old dog and this was the only place I HRM that had it. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Be advised that finding a parking spot may be very difficult. This hospital is located in the Clayton Park Mall which is always very crowded.

Since then the cost of services for me has tripled and with my phone call today, they now require you to get a checkup just to do nail trims. Nothing offered to help out in this BS situation that their staff deemed "mandatory" other than "pay up or gtfo"

Expérience négative: We have been taking our dog here for years and it seems it has gone down hill lately. I’ve left multiple messages over the last few months and have never had my calls returned. I’ve been treated rudely by staff members when I just show up at the door without calling first..which I tried. It’s sad because a lot of the staff love our dog and the vets are great but unfortunately it’s time to take her elsewhere.

Expérience négative: I feel like this clinic has gone downhill considerably over the last couple of years. I used to love this place, but lately I think the technicians have too much power. There is little to no opportunity to talk to a vet, and my concerns are often dismissed. When I brought my dog for vaccinations I asked if he could be treated for ear mites, but was told to book a separate (expensive) appointment. Additionally my mother was treated very poorly when she brought in our dog for a check up. When he had an eye infection we saw the vet for literally 1 minute and she didn’t even look at his eyes. She just gave us drops and then we were charged $100. I will be bringing my dog to a different vet clinic, which is disappointing since a few years ago I found them to be a very welcoming and compassionate clinic.

Expérience négative: Disappointing and terrible. I have had this vet for 2 of my cats. I booked a vaccination for my newly added kitten, it would be his 2nd needle, I spoke to the clinic earlier in the day to confirm the appointment and then they called me back an hour later to do their own confirmation (odd, I know). We drove the 20 minutes to get there and the receptionist came out and said they were sorry but they cant accept us because they cannot give an animal their 1st needle at this point, I said it was his 2nd needle, I told her I explained this on the original call and I am a long time client, she went back in and came out 5 minutes later saying because I didnt have papers to backup that it was his 2nd shot they wont take me. I had some complaint to her and told her to remove me from their client list and they care so much for their clients that she had no problem doing that, great customer care right? Cars don't need tick protection 30 seconds later she said I could pay for consultation and then they would give cat tick and flee meds. Halfwit didn't realise she got caught in Her own nonsense Same BS at larry uteck vets also. Thank goodness for eBay and more caring vets in New Brunswick who will simply ship you what you want to take care of your cat instead of gouging you for cash.

Expérience fantastique: Annual visit was extremely pleasant with all the staff. The OPA, Leah, was very knowledgeable and answered our questions about our cat's diet and other questions we had. Dr Abraham is extraordinary. He spent a lot of time with us going over concerns we had and was also reassuring about those concerns and the treatment he gave our cat. We highly recommend him.

Expérience fantastique: This was a very good experience for my very sick dog and myself, the staff were so very kind to my dog and made him comfortable being a very nervous and sick dog along with his stressed owner. Top quality and trusting care for my dog all the way, special mention and thanks to Dr Tim Farrow and the great staff at Clayton park vet hospital also have a peaceful day from my little buddy, Jaxson, GOOD BLESS Just had my new little girl in for first check up and everything went well, we adopted Ni Ni from Save a life , she came from a kill shelter in Texas and is blind in one eye this does not matter to us we love her even more, everything went excellent with her check up I highly recommend this hospital I have to say over poor old guy Jaxson passed away peacefully, the wonderful dog I mentioned above and at home with the help from Clayton Park vet, thanks for everything guy's, excellent care

Expérience fantastique: They do $10 nail trimming for cats on Friday afternoon and I usually save my own flesh by bringing my beloved fur ball. Very friendly, gentle staff. The cat doesn’t seem to complain, and was totally calm when he was returned to me after his trim. Your animals are in good hands here :)

Expérience fantastique: Knowledgeable and very friendly vets, Technicians and support staff. Was very busy Saturday and they took time to make an area for us to sit in waiting area that was away from barking dogs and more quiet for our one upset cat. Bandit made herself at home once in vet room and out of her carrier. Up to the sink for a drink and then watched proceedings from the counter. Her Sister had to be pried from her carrier, but Dr Wambolt and tech were both very patient and gentle with them both even with busy day happening outside the doors of the room.
