Expérience fantastique: Dr. Cukier has been my German Shepherd’s veterinarian since she was a puppy. She is kind and explains everything in detail. The vet techs and front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. They got me in as soon as possible when my dog suffered some eye trauma. She’s still not recovered so eye protection is essential and we will have to return for a follow up.

Expérience négative: I’ve had very mixed feelings about my visit here. 3 stars for the compassionate front desk staff who continually called to check on how my girl was doing after her appointment. The customer service was excellent. Everyone was very kind, sensitive, passionate, and you can tell that they really do care about their animals. That being said, do not take your snakes here. About a year ago I brought in my ball python Cyn who was a stunted neglect case with a respiratory infection hoping to get some antibiotics for her. She is defensive and anxious but not aggressive, half a pound soaking wet, less than 3 feet long and has a defect in her inner ear that presents as a neurological problem that makes her “wobble” as a result of her morph (spider) which does not naturally occur in the wild and is overbred in captivity. I made the vet aware of this and not only was my sweet girl handled like an aggressive 20lb wild caught boa, but she was also very wrongly misdiagnosed with IBD, and her eye was severely damaged by the techs who attempted to remove a stuck eye cap I told them to leave alone. For those who don’t know IBD is essentially a death sentence for these snakes, however given Cyn’s prexisting condition I was skeptical and wanted to do more tests to make sure. The vet continuously told me the tests for IBD are not accurate and it would be better to euthanize her that day. Very quick to jump on how much it+disposal options would cost. I said no. I took her home and treated her for her RI and she recovered. The bloodwork I sent out came back negative for inclusion bodies a week later and yet still when the vet called me for an update she insisted once again the test was not accurate and she recommended euthanasia. I was frankly very shocked and disturbed at the insistence of putting down a perfectly healthy animal as a result of a vet’s bias, generalization and either outdated or uninformed practices. I am proud to say that standing my ground and advocating for her has kept her alive and she is back to her usual feisty little self as of the time I am writing this. My final thoughts are that if you’re going to say you accept snakes or even exotic pets as a whole as patients, I expect you as their caregiver to be well knowledgeable within that realm. A 20 something hobby keeper should not have to educate an established doctor on breed specific issues that are common knowledge and could have resulted in the needless dispatch of an animal who worked so hard to live this far. I hope that this can be taken as constructive criticism so this doesn’t happen in the future. EDIT: dropping this down to one star because clearly having someone that isn’t ChatGPT reply to me was too hard. Disrespectful, ingenuine and something I wasn’t expecting from a professional medical establishment. I will not be coming back here. once again snake keepers steer clear of this place.

I called the clinic one Monday super early and asked if I could bring my bunny as he wasn't moving. The clinic told me to come right away and we did. Unfortunately, I had to put him down, but the vet was clearly knowledgeable (confirming the info I had previously), which was a surprise, as most vets won't have a lot of experience with rabbits. This made me feel comfortable with the decision I had to make. The staff let me stay with him for a while and not rushing me at all. The little candle at the receptionist desk indicating someone was saying goodbye to their pet is such a nice and caring touch, exactly what you need in a time like this. A week later, I received in the mail this amazing sympathy card signed by all the staff and with a pack of Forget-me-nots seeds. I cry just looking at it. This was such an unexpected gesture. It was one of the nicest things I ever received. Although I live a bit far, I will definitely be going back if our other pets ever need it. Thank you all! <3

Expérience fantastique: Since I moved to Barrie, I have been brining my dog to the Big Bay Animal Hospital. The staff there is wonderful--professional, kind, and caring. I was nervous about switching vets because my dog is a senior rescue who had a very difficult early life that made her afraid of most people. The folks at Big Bay are so kind and gentle that she took to them right away. Also, they have been very diligent about looking for potential problems that aren't demonstrating symptoms yet--and that helped solve a small problem before it became big. I can't recommend them highly enough! Wonderful people, wonderful care!

Expérience négative: Please, please avoid this clinic. I took my Yorkie in December for a sick pet exam because she had discharge from her anus, and when I tried to carry her, she made noise (which indicated something was wrong with her belly). I was able to make an appointment online. When I arrived, the first question was whether she was spayed, and I said "no." The diagnosis popped up immediately: pyometra. However, the discharge was from her anus, not from her vagina! I was overwhelmed with emotion and wasn't able to think clearly. I thought I was seeing a knowledgeable doctor, and that he should know what to do. We did a blood test (which took almost two business days for the results). The vet did not prescribe any pain medication or any other treatments. When the bloodwork came back, I received a call with the results showing an infection in her body. Dr. Kerr offered injectable antibiotics or oral tablets; I chose the injectable option. He told me it was 100% pyometra and that surgery was needed. I booked the surgery (which turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life) for December 3, 2024. After the surgery, I got a call from Dr. Kerr saying it was not pyometra. Two days later, my dog stopped walking on her back legs. A week later, she woke up with white discharge in her eye. I booked another appointment, and Dr. Kerr diagnosed it as an ulcer and prescribed medication. The meds worked. However, during the same visit, he checked her again and suggested euthanasia, saying she had so many problems. After that, I never returned to Dr. Kerr. I made an appointment with another vet who gave the correct diagnosis. Now, my dog is feeling much better and is working on regaining her ability to walk. She is already standing on her own! P.S. Dr. Kerr said she would never walk again. P.P.S. I spent almost 4k in this clinic

Expérience fantastique: In November we had to put down my beautiful black lab Eevee, which was unexpected and heartbreaking. Sara (the vet) was exceptionally caring, gentle and understanding throughout the entire process. As a few months have passed, I’ve been quite low as we couldn’t afford to purchase her ashes. After the holiday season ended, we got a card in the mail that had her paw prints and her nose print in it. This was such a nice gesture that made our family extremely grateful that we chose them to go through with her end of life process. Thank you again.

Expérience fantastique: I have been bringing my (almost) 10 month old puppy, Hank to Big Bay Animal Hospital ever since he was 3 months old. From our very first experience, right up to current day I have been more than impressed with everything, and especially everyone at this clinic. Every time I bring Hank for an appointment, be it for his shots, his neutering, or because of some other concern, we are treated so well by everyone from the moment we walk in. The staff are friendly and professional, and always put both myself and Hank at ease. Hank has seen both Dr. Burrows and Dr. Seemel and both doctors provided excellent care. They were kind and compassionate, and made sure to answer all of my questions and concerns. I appreciate that I always receive follow-up calls from staff after appointments just to see how Hank is doing. It is very reassuring to have that kind of support from those entrusted with his care. I really cannot say enough about Big Bay Animal Hospital - if you are looking for somewhere to bring your pet I would 100 % recommend this clinic. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

I had to get an international health certificate after I had left and they had no problems filling out the paperwork for me! Sailor, our schnoodle, was at ease in their office. Not only did the staff at Big Bay provide excellent care for our senior cat, but they were very transparent in their procedures and pricing. Expérience fantastique: My chihuahua Lexi has been Dr. Burrows patient for 14 years in all our visits Lexi always took the opportunity to nip Dr. burrows and we always laughed when a little tiny muzzle would be placed on her. Monday we took Lexi in as she wasn’t feeling well and although I knew the possibility of her outcome I had a bit if hope . That visit was so difficult Lexi had no strength to even look up let alone nip at the Dr. Or at Nick. We all knew it was her time, Nick was extremely compassionate and kind. He considered every thought and every moment we had left with our girl and his kindness was heartwarming. Nick brought in a tiny bed and blanket which was so unexpected and made us feel that they understood how loved Lexi was and how important this moment was to our family. They gave us as much time as we needed and when we were ready to leave without our beautiful Lexi we were broken. On Thursday I passed by the clinic to pick up Lexi’s paw print when I got to my car I opened the card and to my surprise there was a tiny bottle of Lexi’s fur, I broke down and had a good cry but at the same time I felt comfort in this little bottle…. Dr Burrows and Nick I cannot begin to tell you how special you both are to my family thank you for all you have done for us but this is not good bye cause you still have to deal with my big black lab Hunter ❤️❤️ and he’s a hand full

Expérience négative: I've been wanting to write this review for quite sometime now but I wanted to be sure I didn't let my emotions get the best of me. We were bringing our dog Lynk in here, he was seeing Dr Kup who was helping us manage Lynk's seizure medication. He was always very friendly and attentive to Lynk. Unfortunately when we ran into an emergency issue he was not in office. We had called in and let the front desk know that we had brought Lynk into the emergency vet a few days prior to for a possible obstruction and that they gave us medication to help settle his stomach, we mentioned he got way better and then started to decline again. They then told us to remove one of the medications and do smaller meals. This was leading into a long weekend when they would be closed. Over the weekend he continued to decline and we brought him into emergency in newmarket, they advised us to bring him to our vet on Tuesday (this was monday) and have him put on fluids to help the obstruction pass (this was their error). So we did just that. I brought him in and saw Dr Burrows, she had said we will need to do an exploratory surgery and I asked question after question because this dog was my entire world and I wanted to be sure he would be ok. She assured me he would be fine and the biggest risk was that the bowel could rupture in surgery BUT she would flush the abdomen out and he would be fine, may have short bowel syndrome. That was the WORST case scenario. So I left lynk in their hands, on his birthday I must add. I got a call a few hours later from Dr Burrows to tell me the bowel ruptured in the one place that is inoperable and she can't save him. NEVER once did she say that was a possibility, never was I told I could lose him. I had called days later to speak with her and ask questions but nothing was cleared up, I emailed asking why this risk wasn't mentioned and never got a reply. She didnt forget to mention over the phone that if i brought him in sooner that she could of saved him so that was nice - considering i did call in 4 days before asking what i should do. There is nothing we can do to bring him back but I want you to know that next time this happens, 1. Tell the owner to bring them in immediately. 2. Tell them the real risks of the surgery. Don't do this to someone else.

She took the time to allow Arthur to warm up, using treats and gentle techniques. Dr. Sarah's expertise was evident as she addressed all our concerns with thorough explanations. The receptionist staff was equally welcoming. Highly recommend this vet hospital for their compassionate care and knowledgeable team!

Expérience fantastique: I recently had to put my poor baby down (Bella) I have never been so happy to have her been so well taken care of before and after she left us. The staff is incredibly passionate. One thing I worried about was leaving my little girl alone. They never left her for a moment. They showed compassion, love and supported my family and I through this difficult time. They explained the step by step process and allowed us time to say our final goodbye. I have to thank everyone on staff here, Bella especially loved Miss Melissa! Bella loved going to this vet office even when she wasn't feeling the greatest. Expérience fantastique: Updated review 2023: My dog Buddy is very fearful of anyone being near his face and generally is a *difficult customer* at the vet. The staff here always goes the extra mile, and I must commend Dr. Kup's professionalism even when he's having arm clawed up by a very grumpy dog. I'm not sure I could maintain decorum so easily in such a situation. Again they are quite a bit more expensive than other vets, but its worth it if your pet requires this level of care. After our latest visit Buddy has been prescribed pre-visit anxiety medicine which should make things easier for all of us. Old 2021 Review: I had to take my guinea pig Pluto here because the poor little guy had bladder stones and it was the only vet I could find that had good reviews for 'exotic' pets. After seeing the quality of service I quickly switched my dog, Buddy, to this vet as well. He recently underwent his neutering procedure and is recovering well, a very smooth and professional process the entire way. They even went the extra mile and asked what specific type of food my dog eats, so that when they fed him during his recovery, they could give him the same kind, reducing any tummy upsets! They are more expensive than other vets in Barrie for a reason.

Expérience fantastique: Extremely friendly and caring staff. Both vets that we met showed us they had our dogs best interest at heart and in mind. Their prices are fair and the store front has a family cozy feel to it. It’s not a large place. I definitely recommend them.

They're very knowledgeable and will do whatever it takes to ensure you have all the information you need and that your pet gets the correct care. Highly recommend. They also are great when I bring in my kids, who have been curious about what Vets do for quite some time and it was great for them to see first hand what goes on.

Expérience fantastique: I had a pretty urgent concern regarding one of my gerbil’s health. I had called probably 10 vets in the area before calling Big Bay and no one could help me. I’ve had dogs my whole life and so felt a bit lost trying to figure out how to help a gerbil... The person working the phone (I think their name was Candace?) was extremely helpful and clear in giving me information (we had called back and forth a few times) and finally letting me know that one of their vets would take a look at my gerbil that same day. I felt very respected and like they actually cared. I was able to drop my gerbil off and wait for their phone call at work which was very helpful. Sarah, the vet, explained to me very clearly over the phone what my options were for treatment and we are currently going through that treatment. Thanks again so much to everyone at the clinic.

Special shout out to Sherrie who goes above and beyond for our cats. She is totally a cat whisperer! She is so compassionate and caring and it is so clear with the way she takes care of our cats. I am so glad we found this vet clinic!

Expérience négative: We respected this vet until recently when our dog, who had medical issues, had blood work that showed kidney failure. This vet recommended surgery on his mouth when he should have been transparent about his condition. As a result surgery went forward and a few months later our beloved dog had to be euthanized. The vet in Mexico did blood work and explained the results and compared it to the blood work done by Big Bay. He was very transparent and compassionate about the situation. Unfortunately we did not receive this from Big Bay. Shame on you.

Expérience fantastique: We take our dog here. Staff is very kind. They're always good at squeezing my dog Iin for an appointment when she has emergencies. I purchase my dog's food from here because she's on a special diet and every time I call or enter the clinic everyone is superhelpful and polite.

My handsome Bearded Dragon (Cheese Puff) received excellent care and the staff were very thorough with their diagnostic process. The Vet Tech showed me how to properly administer his medications, so there was no confusion after I went home. They even called me on multiple occasions to follow up with his health status. Highly recommended!!!

Expérience négative: Came in 15 min late for my appointment and got denied service. Drove all the way from north york with 2 dogs in the car during rush hour. The receptionist said im 20 min late, but i was waiting in the office for at least 5 min. Great job guys!

Expérience fantastique: All staff was very friendly and informative. Very reasonable prices. I had brought in a adopted rabbit for a general check up. And they answered all my questions. They even trimmed his nails free of charge. Although I don't expect that all the time! Maybe its cause I was first time? Or cause I had just adopted him, but it was a lovely gesture! They also gave me a estimate for getting the little guy fixed. And I was surprised with how low the price was. I was worried with rabbits being an "exotic" pet the price would be high. But nope! Very reasonable. Great place!

Expérience fantastique: We are very happy with Dr. Kup and everyone at Big Bay Animal Hospital! We switched veterinarians because the last vet treated our Oliver (a mini goldendoodle) like a number. Oliver had been seeing the first vet since he was about 10 weeks old. He was examined and given his 2nd & 3rd round of shots. There were no follow up calls to see how Oliver was doing after his shots. In fact, I had to call them as Oliver was really in rough shape after both sets of shots. I was told he may be a little tired, but he was not even able to stand up or walk. After this experience, my husband & I decided to try another clinic. Our research led us to Dr. Kup at Big Bay Animal Hospital. Oliver has seen all the vets there (3 I believe) and they have all been very thorough & kind. Importantly, they have taken the time to address any questions or concerns we've had. There has always been a follow up call from one of the amazing staff members to see how Oliver is doing. Expérience fantastique: I have nothing but nice things to say about Big Bay Animal hospital! I recently adopted a hedgehog and immediately noticed that something was not right with her. I came across big bay on my hunt for a vet that treats exotic animals. Thankfully, the receptionist understood the urgency of my situation and took Luna in the same day and treated her. The staff were so kind to her and treated her so nicely! I really appreciated how the staff took time to call and check up on how she is doing in between appointments and were patient enough to answer all my questions about her situation. She had two treatments and she is doing so much better! I am so happy that she was able to receive the care she needed.

Expérience fantastique: I took my pet rat here yesterday to get euthanized and the staff are always so compassionate, kind, gentle, and they listen to what you have to say. There is not one person that works here that does not have these qualities that I have interacted with. Two months prior I took my other pet rat to get euthanized and they were so helpful and kind about it. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs to make the difficult decision to do this. It certainly made it much easier to ease any guilt that I felt about it. Thank you to those staff

Expérience négative: WARNING TO REPTILE OWNERS On a Thursday afternoon I brought my leopard gecko in for a check up. He was going through brumation and he had a small calcium bubble under his arm. Come to find him Friday morning bleeding from his vent and by Friday afternoon he was dead. It’s been days and no one will explain what happened. The only one that we’ve ever even been able to speak to was a nice Lady behind the counter. The vet who I’ve been told owns the clinic was the one to do his checkup. I was aware of some small shed around the vent that I was planning on soaking after his appointment to not stress him out more but it seemed like he died from internal bleeding as his belly was dark coloured and the amount of blood was astronomical for a small animal. No one will tell me if he even was probed and that’s what caused the bleeding. I paid $300 for a dead leopard gecko and it’s been days and no one has said sorry to me. I haven’t even gotten my money back. If I was someone who based my career around animals I would expect more sympathy but I guess money is the reason for the clinics operation.
